Instead of Bazel
Bazel alternatives
Bazel automates software builds and tests across languages and platforms, with incremental caching, parallel execution, and sandboxed builds that can improve reproducibility. Its Starlark rules let teams define custom build logic, while support for large codebases, multiple repositories, and desktop, server, Android, and iOS outputs makes it suited to broad build needs. It runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows and is free as an open-source project.

A different tool may fit better when the work extends beyond building and testing: Bazel’s remote cache needs a separately selected and maintained backend, and it is not well suited to operations whose outputs should not be cached, such as deployment steps that change cloud configuration. When switching, weigh whether you need a hosted development environment, mobile release automation, game-engine tooling, Kubernetes workflow orchestration, or a broader CI/CD pipeline. Also consider platform and repository needs, workflow integrations, and whether you prefer custom Starlark build rules or a product organized around a specific delivery process.
