Instead of ExifTool

ExifTool alternatives

ExifTool gives users a free command-line application and Perl library for reading, writing, deleting, copying, and moving metadata across many kinds of files. Its metadata coverage includes EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, and camera maker notes, and it can handle batch edits and RAW files. It runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows, and offers API libraries plus a C++ interface for applications that communicate with an external ExifTool process.

Its broad file coverage and command-line workflow may not fit someone who wants to clean photos through a graphical app or edit locations on a phone. ExifTool is not designed as an image validator, and it cannot write metadata that a target format does not support. When switching, weigh the file types and metadata formats you need against each alternative’s platform and workflow. Consider whether you need to remove or rewrite metadata, edit batches, handle GPS details, work offline, or preserve image data and originals. A focused tool may simplify one task, but may not match ExifTool’s wider scope.
