DeSmuME alternatives

DeSmuME is a free, open-source emulator for Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite games on Windows, Linux and macOS. It emulates the handheld's buttons, D-pad, touch screen and foldable lid state, with SoftRasterizer and OpenGL rendering. Audio interpolation options, microphone emulation, save states, screenshots, AVI video, WAV audio, TAS movies and cheat tools extend its core playback features. A DLL/SO interface and documented Python library also support software development.

Alternatives become relevant when you need a different console library, broader device coverage or features DeSmuME does not provide. DSi support is absent, netplay is unavailable, and Wi-Fi is experimental and discouraged for end users. The free plan removes licensing cost, but another emulator may require different system files, controllers or operating-system versions. Compare the consoles supported, multiplayer options, graphics controls, save and recording tools, developer features and platform availability before switching.
