chromedp alternatives
chromedp is a free, MIT-licensed Go package for driving browsers that support the Chrome DevTools Protocol, without an external driver. Its examples cover navigation, clicking, page text, JavaScript, forms, cookies, headers, proxy authentication, request interception and restoring sessions. It can capture screenshots, print pages to PDF and save screencast frames. Chrome runs headlessly by default, and a headless-shell Docker image is available. A separate module connects to running browsers over WebSocket; its default pipe connection avoids opening a debugging port. The package requires Go 1.25 or newer, and sharing a context between goroutines can cause races.

Its focus is browser control in Go, so alternatives may suit teams that need managed cloud sessions, other languages, broader test coverage or visual test authoring. Compare the required runtime and browser engines, plus whether you need mobile, API or desktop testing alongside browser work. Also weigh free access against paid plans, and decide whether cloud persistence, fingerprint masking or CAPTCHA solving matters more than chromedp’s direct Go-based control.
