Instead of OpenKiosk
OpenKiosk alternatives
OpenKiosk provides a free, open-source public browser built from Mozilla Firefox. It runs as a self-hosted, system-integrated terminal on Linux, macOS, and Windows packages, with current installation guidance for Debian 13 on x86_64 or aarch64 devices. Administrators can register devices through a web interface, apply settings remotely, control fullscreen and browser chrome, set session timers, manage browsing-data retention, and allow or block URLs. An on-screen keyboard and optional Piper text-to-speech support touch and narrated access. OpenKiosk has been used in public venues and businesses since 2005, but its current release is Beta. Downloads and uploads are labeled insecure options, strict filtering can break pages, and the current installation requirements are Linux-focused.

An alternative may fit better when you need PDF reading, reservations, fleet telemetry, content publishing, mobile-only deployment, or wider device administration. Compare whether you need a browser terminal or a management platform, which operating systems and hardware are supported, and how much control is required over sessions, content, screens, alerts, and remote actions. Also weigh self-hosting against cloud or paid deployment, and consider whether each product’s security and offline behavior match your venue.
