Nestalgia alternatives

Nestalgia is a free, open-source emulator for NES and Famicom software, including Famicom Disk System, Dendy, Vs. System, NSF and NSFe. It runs on Windows, Linux and macOS, supports over 300 mappers, and includes save states, battery saves, cheat codes, overclocking, screenshots and fullscreen mode. Audio, video, controller and emulation settings are configurable, with support for more than 20 controllers. Accuracy checks cover CPU, video, audio, mapper and input behavior, and its Kotlin core can be added through JitPack.

An alternative may fit better if you need browser play, other Nintendo systems, debugging or scripting tools, cycle-level playback controls, or a JavaScript development library. Nestalgia remains a work in progress, its downloads require Java 21 or newer, and Android is marked as coming soon. Its repository provides emulation only, without debugging tools. Compare platform access, supported systems, save options, developer workflows and specialized controls before changing.
