Instead of Velero
Velero alternatives
Velero is a free, open source tool for backing up and restoring Kubernetes resources and persistent volumes. Teams can protect entire clusters or selected resources, schedule recurring backups with custom hooks, recover after data loss, and migrate resources between clusters. Its plugins connect cloud and on-premises storage, while CSI snapshots support eligible volumes when cluster and driver prerequisites are met. The local command-line client works across macOS, Windows, and Linux, but the server runs in Kubernetes.

That Kubernetes focus also sets the boundaries: installation needs a cluster, compatible object storage, and at least one plugin, and file system backup is not enabled by default. Community support is available through GitHub and Kubernetes Slack; some object-storage immutability settings can interfere with metadata updates. When comparing alternatives, consider whether you want managed Kubernetes operations, a guided recovery console, coverage beyond Kubernetes, or a different deployment model. Compare the service’s price and workload scope with the setup and recovery requirements you have today.
