Instead of Source 2 Viewer
Source 2 Viewer alternatives
Source 2 Viewer is aimed at people who need to inspect Source 2 game resources in detail. It browses and repacks VPK archives, views maps, models, materials, textures, audio, shaders and other assets, and exports or decompiles several types for editing. glTF 2.0 output connects with Blender, Unity and Unreal Engine, while batch extraction, texture controls and a cross-platform command-line tool support repeatable workflows. The project is free, open source and portable, although its graphical interface is Windows-only and Linux or macOS use requires Wine.

Its specialization can be a drawback outside Source 2 work. Reverse-engineered format coverage is incomplete, and exports may lose data that cannot be recovered. The free plan has no trial distinction because the software itself is free, but platform requirements still matter, including OpenGL 4.6 and Windows 11 for the development build. Alternatives below target text browsing, Doom archives, Unity assets, Kingdom Hearts mods, broad archive scripting, Total War files or Defold packages. Compare game and format coverage, editing depth, automation, operating systems and any paid features before switching.
