OBS Studio alternatives
OBS Studio is a free, open-source desktop app for recording video and live streaming on Linux, macOS, and Windows. It captures and mixes windows, images, text, browser windows, webcams, and capture cards. Users can build unlimited scenes, switch with custom transitions, and shape audio with per-source filters and VST plugins. Studio Mode previews scenes before they go live; Multiview monitors eight scenes. Its API, native plugins, and Lua or Python scripts allow further customization, while streams connect directly from the computer to streaming services rather than relying on OBS servers.

Its desktop workflow is not a fit for every broadcast: OBS has no browser-based studio, and its stated Windows and macOS support starts at Windows 10 and macOS 12. When weighing a switch, decide whether browser access, cloud forwarding, scheduled prerecorded streams, guest participation, or mobile availability matters more than OBS’s local scene and audio controls. Compare destination counts, recording needs, platform support, and price as well. Some alternatives offer free plans, while paid tiers may be relevant for particular workflows or limits.
