Zoroark can work in Pokémon GO Great League, but it is best treated as an off-meta pressure piece rather than the team’s durable anchor. The current benchmark is a 1/15/15 Zoroark at level 21.5 and 1,496 CP, running Sucker Punch, Foul Play, and Sludge Bomb. Its Dark typing pressures Psychic and Ghost Pokémon, while its high Attack can punish exposed targets. However, Bug, Fairy, and Fighting damage, limited bulk, and awkward energy pacing make alignment essential. Build the other two team members to absorb or answer those threats, then validate the exact lineup in PvPoke’s Team Builder before investing resources.
Is Zoroark good in Great League?
Zoroark is playable, but it is not a broad Great League staple. The current Pokémon GO Hub Database places it at rank 661 of 1,154 Great League Pokémon, with a PvPoke score of 71 and a tier D rating. Independent analysis also describes it as an off-meta pick. That makes Zoroark a “spice” option for players who enjoy pressure and surprise, not a reliable replacement for a bulky meta core.

Its value comes from a strong offensive profile. Dark damage threatens Psychic and Ghost targets, and Zoroark resists Psychic, Dark, and Ghost attacks. The trade-off is severe: Bug, Fairy, and Fighting attacks deal increased damage, and Zoroark has little room to absorb neutral hits. A team built around it must create favorable alignments and preserve shields or energy for the moments when Zoroark can reach its charged moves.
The database lists Galarian Corsola, Altaria, Shadow Forretress, Talonflame, and Defense Deoxys among its notable wins. Listed losses include Melmetal, Shadow Ninetales, Tinkaton, Cramorant, and Mimikyu. Those results are a starting point for team construction, not a guarantee for every moveset, shield scenario, or future game update.

What IVs and CP should a Great League Zoroark have?
Use the highest-stat-product spread as a benchmark, then check whether a different spread helps a specific breakpoint or Charged Attack priority tie. The current database and PikaStat independently identify the same leading spread:
| Build detail | Current benchmark | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Attack IV | 1 | Lower Attack generally permits more bulk before reaching the Great League limit. |
| Defense IV | 15 | Maximizes the benchmark’s stat product. |
| HP IV | 15 | Maximizes the benchmark’s remaining bulk. |
| Level | 21.5 | The level listed for the benchmark spread. |
| CP | 1,496 | Just under the 1,500 CP Great League cap. |
| Effective stats | Approximately 155.47 Attack, 87.96 Defense, 105 HP | Values reported for this exact benchmark by the current database. |
Do not assume 1/15/15 is perfect in every matchup. The database notes that breakpoints and Charged Attack priority can make another spread preferable for a particular team. If you already own a Zoroark near the cap, compare its exact level, CP, and matchup outcomes in a simulator before spending Stardust or Candy XL.

What is the best Zoroark moveset?
The default Great League recommendation is Sucker Punch with Foul Play and Sludge Bomb. That set gives Dark-type pressure at a relatively low charged-move cost and adds Poison coverage for Fairy targets. Two alternatives—Shadow Claw and Flamethrower—can be justified when a team is built around specific matchup requirements.
| Move slot | Move | Known figures or cost | Best reason to use it | Main concern |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fast | Sucker Punch | 4.0 damage per turn, 3.5 energy per turn, 1.0-turn cooldown (October 9, 2026 analysis) | Current recommendation and stronger immediate Dark fast-move pressure. | Listed as legacy or event-exclusive; verify access before using an Elite TM. |
| Fast alternative | Shadow Claw | Exact figures vary by game data; evaluate through current simulations. | Earlier charged moves and different alignment into several targets. | Its wins and losses change noticeably with shield count. |
| Charged | Foul Play | 65 damage, 40 energy in Trainer Battles. | Lower-cost Dark pressure and the dependable first charged move. | Does not provide coverage against Fairy targets. |
| Charged | Sludge Bomb | 80 damage, 50 energy in Trainer Battles. | Default coverage option into Fairy Pokémon. | Zoroark can faint before reaching it in some bad alignments. |
| Charged alternative | Flamethrower | 55 energy. | Specific coverage against targets such as Tinkaton, Forretress, and Sableye. | Higher cost and no fix for Zoroark’s fragile defenses. |
Should you use Sucker Punch or Shadow Claw?
Choose Sucker Punch when you want the current recommended build and more direct fast-move pressure. Choose Shadow Claw when the team needs faster energy or when simulations show that its matchup flips matter more than Sucker Punch’s damage profile.
The October 9, 2026 analysis found that the answer changes with shields: in its tested Great League group, Sucker Punch recorded six wins in the shield-down comparison and 16 wins in the two-shield comparison. Those figures describe that analysis’ selected group and conditions, not a universal ranking. Run the exact team and shield scenarios you expect to play.

Is Flamethrower worth adding?
Flamethrower is a specialist choice. Its 55-energy cost is higher than Foul Play’s 40 energy, so it can arrive too late when Zoroark is under fast-move pressure. It becomes more defensible when the rest of your team already covers Fairy Pokémon and your simulations show repeated problems with Tinkaton, Forretress, or Sableye. Do not select it merely because the move looks broad on paper.

How do Zoroark’s weaknesses shape the other two team slots?
Zoroark’s Dark typing means the partners must cover three immediate pressure points: Bug, Fairy, and Fighting. They should also help against the Steel and Fire Pokémon that appear among Zoroark’s listed losses. The goal is not to find one magical partner; it is to create a core in which at least one Pokémon can take neutral damage and provide a safe switch.
| Problem for Zoroark | What the partner should provide | Team-building test |
|---|---|---|
| Bug and Fighting attacks | A bulky role with favorable resistances, reliable charged-move pressure, or both. Fairy- or Flying-oriented roles are reasonable hypotheses. | Check whether the candidate can enter after Zoroark loses alignment without immediately surrendering shields. |
| Fairy Pokémon | A dependable answer that does not rely on Zoroark surviving long enough to land Sludge Bomb. | Test both shielded and shield-down situations; Fairy fast-move pressure can end the matchup quickly. |
| Melmetal and Tinkaton | Anti-Steel pressure from a Ground, Water, or another suitable role, preferably with meaningful bulk. | Inspect whether the candidate handles these targets without needing a perfect energy lead. |
| Shadow Ninetales and other Fire pressure | A bulky answer that can contest Fire damage and maintain switch flexibility. | Compare the candidate as a lead and safe switch, not only as a closer. |
| Zoroark’s low durability | At least one genuine safe-switch or neutral-damage sponge. | Reject lineups in which all three Pokémon require shields to function. |
What should the first partner do?
Use the first partner as the defensive answer to Fighting and Bug pressure. A Fairy- or Flying-oriented role is a sensible starting point because it can change the way opponents approach Zoroark’s Dark typing, but the exact species should come from the current Great League pool and be checked in simulation.
This slot should have enough bulk to enter after an unfavorable lead without instantly losing. It also needs a charged move that creates pressure rather than merely absorbing damage. A candidate that resists one threat but folds to the other is not a complete answer; inspect the full matchup list and the energy required to reach its charged moves.
What should the second partner do?
Make the second partner your anti-Steel and anti-Fire pressure option with real staying power. Melmetal, Tinkaton, and Shadow Ninetales are specifically important because they appear among Zoroark’s listed losses. Ground- or Water-oriented roles are logical places to start, but current matchups matter more than a type label.

This partner can be the closer when Zoroark is used to remove shields, or the lead when you need to avoid exposing Zoroark to immediate Fairy or Fighting pressure. Compare both arrangements. A team that looks balanced on paper may become fragile if the anti-Steel answer is forced to lead every game.
Which Zoroark team shells are worth testing?
The following shells are role-based starting points, not claimed live rankings or tournament-tested teams. Replace each role with actual candidate species and moves, then inspect the resulting simulations.
| Shell | Three roles | When to try it | Main risk | Preferred Zoroark use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Balanced pressure | Zoroark; bulky Fighting/Bug answer; Ground- or Water-oriented anti-Steel backline. | When you want to preserve Zoroark for a late alignment or shielded cleanup. | The lineup can still struggle if both partners lack a reliable neutral switch. | Closer or shield-supported pressure piece. |
| Anti-Steel | Zoroark; sturdy anti-Steel lead or safe switch; bulky neutral closer. | When Melmetal and Tinkaton are the main concerns. | Zoroark may be stranded against Fairy or Fighting Pokémon if the lead is lost. | Mid-game pressure after Steel threats are removed. |
| Coverage | Zoroark with Sludge Bomb; one Fairy answer; one Fire/Steel answer. | When you want explicit answers to the most obvious counters. | Both partners may become vulnerable to fast-move pressure if they are too fragile. | Flexible lead or closer, depending on the matchup. |
How do you validate a Zoroark team in PvPoke?
Use PvPoke’s Team Builder as a decision tool, not as a promise of future results. PvPoke describes its rankings as estimates that can change when the simulator or game data improves. Compare roles and key losses instead of selecting the team with the highest single overall number.
- Enter the exact Zoroark build. Select the Great League format, then set the IVs, level, fast move, and charged moves you actually intend to use. Include Sucker Punch or Shadow Claw explicitly; do not leave the simulator on a default moveset.
- Add one candidate for the defensive slot. Use the species and moves you would really power up. Check whether it answers Fighting and Bug pressure while retaining enough health to switch out.
- Add the anti-Steel and anti-Fire candidate. Inspect matchups against Melmetal, Tinkaton, Shadow Ninetales, and other threats that caused Zoroark problems.
- Read the key-loss list. A high overall score does not matter if the same Fairy, Fighting, or Bug Pokémon defeats all three members. Look for concentrated weaknesses and overlapping fast-move losses.
- Compare lead, switch, and closer views. PvPoke separates lead, closer, switch, charger, attacker, and consistency categories. A team that is acceptable as a closer may be poor as a lead.
- Run shield scenarios. Check one-shield, two-shield, and shield-down outcomes. The Sucker Punch and Shadow Claw trade-off can change with shield count.
- Record the energy requirements. Note which matchups require Zoroark to reach Foul Play, Sludge Bomb, or Flamethrower. If a move arrives only with a large energy lead, treat it as conditional coverage.
- Recheck after game updates. Move values, available attacks, and rankings can change. Revisit the simulations before committing significant resources or entering an event.
How should you play Zoroark in battle?
As a lead
Use Foul Play for dependable Dark pressure and avoid spending both shields simply to preserve a lead matchup that a teammate can recover later. Zoroark’s job in front is to reveal the opponent’s answer, force a shield when possible, and leave with enough health or energy to matter later.
If the lead is an obvious Fairy or Fighting problem, do not pretend Sludge Bomb automatically solves it. Switch to the designated answer when the rest of the team has a realistic recovery line. Zoroark’s low bulk means delaying the switch can turn a manageable matchup into a lost battle.

As a safe switch
Zoroark is not a conventional safe switch because neutral damage can remove it quickly. Use it as a switch only when the opponent’s likely response is vulnerable to Dark pressure, when you have an energy advantage, or when sacrificing some health creates a favorable alignment for the backline.
Track the opponent’s remaining shields. Foul Play is usually the first charged move to threaten because it costs less energy. Sludge Bomb should be revealed when the Fairy matchup is real and you can reach it before fainting.
As a closer
This is usually the most natural role for Zoroark. Preserve at least one shield when possible, remove or weaken the opponent’s Fairy and Fighting answers first, and bring Zoroark in when opposing shields or health are low. Its Attack and Dark pressure become more meaningful once it no longer has to absorb repeated charged moves.
Closing with Zoroark still requires alignment. A low-health Fairy Pokémon can remain dangerous if it reaches a fast move before Sludge Bomb, while a healthy Fighting Pokémon can end the game before Foul Play matters. Use the simulator’s exact health and energy states to learn which endgames are realistic.
How should you manage shields?
Shield for outcomes, not for Zoroark’s survival by itself. A shield that lets Zoroark reach a decisive charged move can be valuable; a shield spent preserving a matchup that your backline already wins may leave the actual answer exposed later. Because Zoroark has little bulk, shield-down situations are especially important when comparing fast moves.

What are the most common Zoroark team-building mistakes?
- Calling it a hidden meta pick. Its current rank, score, and tier support an off-meta framing. Expect technical wins, not universal viability.
- Assuming Sludge Bomb guarantees Fairy wins. The move costs energy, and Zoroark can faint before using it against strong Fairy pressure.
- Using three fragile Pokémon. If every member needs a shield to function, one bad lead can decide the battle before Zoroark reaches a charged move.
- Ignoring move availability. Sucker Punch is listed as legacy or event-exclusive in the current database. Confirm that your Zoroark can learn it before planning an Elite TM purchase.
- Choosing IVs by habit. The 1/15/15 spread is a benchmark, not an absolute rule. Breakpoints and Charged Attack priority can favor another spread in a specific matchup.
- Picking partners from type charts alone. A theoretical resistance is not enough if the candidate lacks bulk, loses the energy race, or cannot function as a switch.
- Reading only the overall simulator score. Inspect lead, switch, closer, charger, attacker, and consistency categories, plus the actual key-loss list.
- Forgetting to update the model. Rankings and move data can change as Pokémon GO and the simulator are updated.
How do you decide between the three shells?
Start with the threat you are seeing most often. Choose the balanced shell when you want the safest general structure, the anti-Steel shell when Steel and Fire losses dominate, and the coverage shell when you have reliable Fairy and Fire/Steel answers but need Zoroark to supply the Dark pressure.
Then ask three practical questions: Can one teammate absorb a neutral charged move? Can the team recover when Zoroark loses the lead? Does the chosen fast move reach a meaningful charged move before the opponent’s likely answer? If the answer to any question is no, change the role assignment or candidate species before changing Zoroark’s moves.

Can Zoroark reach 1,500 CP for Great League without XL Candy?
The benchmark listed for Great League is level 21.5 at 1,496 CP, so it is below the league cap at that level. Whether your individual Zoroark reaches that point with ordinary Candy depends on its appraisal, current level, and power-up cost; check the in-game preview for the exact specimen.
Is Zoroark better in limited cups than in open Great League?
A limited cup can remove some of the Bug, Fairy, or Fighting answers that make Zoroark unreliable in open play, or it can make those counters more common. Treat each cup as a new format: confirm eligibility, then rebuild the team in the simulator instead of carrying over the open-league lineup.
Does Zoroark’s Illusion ability work in Pokémon GO battles?
Pokémon GO does not reproduce every main-series ability mechanic. Build your PvP expectations from the moves, typing, stats, and current game data shown in Pokémon GO, not from Illusion strategies used in the console games.
Should I spend an Elite Charged TM on Flamethrower?
Only do so when a current simulation identifies a repeatable matchup that your team cannot otherwise cover and the higher 55-energy cost is acceptable. Flamethrower is a targeted option, not a generally stronger replacement for Sludge Bomb.
