Short answer: Xodus Nexus can let selected PC Game Pass and owned Microsoft Store games run on Linux, with cloud saves, achievements and multiplayer available only when the individual title supports the required Xbox services. Your Microsoft account and an active purchase or subscription establish entitlement; they do not guarantee installation, sign-in, save synchronization, achievement reporting or online matches. Xodus Nexus is an unofficial launcher built around a patched Xodus backend and shared Nexus runtime, and Steam Deck support remains experimental.
The practical rule is to check each game across separate compatibility results. A title may launch and sync progress but fail to enter a lobby, or show achievements without providing every in-game notification. Version 0.4.0, dated October 26, 2026, adds Xbox friends and chat plus several library and backend fixes, but it does not turn the catalog into a universal Linux-compatible library.

What is Xodus Nexus, and why does entitlement not equal compatibility?
Xodus Nexus is an independent, open-source Linux launcher for supported Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass titles. Its README describes it as “An Xbox-inspired launcher built on Xodus, using our patched Nexus backend and Nexus runtime.” It is not an official Microsoft, Xbox, Valve or upstream-Xodus application.
That distinction matters because two different questions are involved:

Xodus Nexus does not bypass Microsoft Store or Game Pass licensing. A valid entitlement is required before the launcher can provide access, and every later service still depends on the title’s implementation, runtime dependencies and network requirements.
Will a Game Pass game use the same save on Linux?
It can, but only for a title whose compatibility entry confirms save synchronization. Cloud-save support is supplied through Xbox-related services in the shared runtime; it is not an automatic property of every Game Pass installation.

How the save process works
- Sign in to Xodus Nexus with the Microsoft account that owns the game or carries the qualifying subscription.
- Install the title through the launcher’s Microsoft Store-compatible backend.
- Start the game and allow its Xbox-related services to authenticate. A compatible title can then read or write cloud progress associated with that account.
- Check the game’s compatibility information specifically for save synchronization. Installation and launch results do not prove that cloud progress works.
When all four conditions are met, progress can follow the account between supported devices in the same way the Xbox experience is designed to handle cross-device saves. The wording is deliberately narrower than “all Game Pass saves transfer”: a game can install successfully and still fail to upload, download or reconcile progress.
What to check before trusting a save
- Use the exact Microsoft account that owns the purchase or subscription entitlement.
- Confirm the title is marked for save synchronization, not merely installation or launch.
- Let the game reach a normal save point and exit cleanly before changing devices.
- Do not treat a local save folder as proof of Xbox cloud synchronization; the compatibility result concerns the service connection.
Do achievements unlock and appear on an Xbox account?
Achievements may unlock and be recorded when the game and runtime support the required Xbox services. Xodus Nexus game pages can show available achievements, time played and last activity when the account and title expose that data, but this is availability-dependent rather than a universal promise.
There are two separate observations:
- Account reporting: the achievement can be registered to the Microsoft/Xbox account.
- Local presentation: the game or launcher may display an unlock notification, progress list or activity entry.
Those observations do not always coincide. A compatible save does not prove achievement support, and an account entry does not guarantee an identical in-game pop-up on Linux. Verify the specific title’s achievement result in the compatibility information and in the launcher’s game page.
Microsoft’s official Xbox experience treats achievements as account-level progress that can travel across supported devices. Xodus Nexus narrows that expectation to games for which its runtime can reach the relevant services, so do not assume that every achievement set behaves identically.

Can multiplayer work through Xodus Nexus?
Online play is a checklist rather than a single switch. The launcher’s social features and the game’s own networking path must both work.
Launcher and social layer
Version 0.4.0 adds Xbox friends and chat, and friends can see playing status. Compatible games can handle invitations through that account layer. This improves discovery and communication, but it does not itself establish that a game can connect to its multiplayer servers.
Game and network layer
The title must separately pass Microsoft account sign-in, lobby access and a completed multiplayer match. A game can therefore have a working single-player launch and cloud save while failing online play. Game-specific launchers, anti-cheat requirements, network services, regional behavior and runtime dependencies can change the result.
Xodus Nexus uses the game’s original launcher where applicable and may use Valve’s official Proton Easy Anti-Cheat compatibility runtime. That arrangement can satisfy a dependency for some games, but it is not a blanket multiplayer guarantee.

What does Xodus Nexus require on Linux?
The documented baseline is a 64-bit x86 Linux system, a Microsoft account with a qualifying purchase or subscription, and an enabled system keyring such as KDE Wallet or GNOME Keyring.
Prepare these requirements first
- 64-bit x86 Linux: the documented architecture baseline.
- Microsoft account entitlement: either ownership of the title or a subscription that includes it.
- Unlocked keyring: KDE Wallet or GNOME Keyring must be available so credentials can be stored and retrieved.
- Browser fallback: if passkey sign-in stalls, the documented fallback requires Google Chrome.
- Controller, if desired: an Xbox Wireless Controller is a familiar input option for PC play, but it cannot repair a failed runtime, account or network check.
Basic setup sequence
- Install Xodus Nexus using the project’s current Linux instructions for your distribution.
- Open the launcher and complete Microsoft account sign-in, allowing the system keyring prompt to unlock when requested.
- If passkey authentication hangs, use the documented browser fallback with Google Chrome.
- Open the Game Pass or owned-game library and select a title listed as supported.
- Before downloading, inspect the separate entries for installation, launch, account sign-in, saves, achievements, friends or invites, lobby access and completed multiplayer.
- Install the game, launch it once and allow any original game launcher or runtime dependency to initialize.
- Only after a successful single-player launch should you validate cloud saves, achievements and multiplayer in that order.
How should you read a game’s compatibility listing?
Do not reduce a title to a single “works” label. The useful question is which part of the Xbox experience has evidence for that exact game and which part remains unverified.

The current feature set also includes Game Pass and owned-game library views, supported-game cloud saves, achievements and activity where available, DLC or content management and Steam integration. These are capabilities of the launcher; whether they function for a particular game still depends on that game’s compatibility entry.

Is Steam Deck support reliable enough for Game Pass?
Steam Deck support is experimental, so it should be treated as a separate platform question rather than assumed desktop-Linux support.
The project supports Steam integration on supported native Linux Steam installations. A Deck user must still consider the handheld’s Steam configuration, controller behavior, keyring and the exact game’s runtime or anti-cheat dependencies. A title that launches on a conventional 64-bit x86 Linux desktop may fail on the Deck, and a successful launch does not establish cloud saves or multiplayer.
For a Deck setup, verify the same sequence used on desktop: entitlement, installation, launch, account sign-in, save synchronization, achievements, lobby access and a completed match. Keep the word “experimental” in your decision; it signals an evolving integration rather than a guaranteed Game Pass device.

What should you do when one part fails?
Sign-in loops or passkeys stall
Check that the system keyring is enabled and unlocked. If passkey authentication does not complete, use the documented Google Chrome browser fallback, then retry the account sign-in.
The game installs but progress is missing
Confirm that the title is marked for save synchronization, that you used the account holding the entitlement and that the game reached a normal save point before closing. Installation and launch entries alone do not indicate that cloud saves are working.
Achievements are absent
Look for the title’s achievement and activity status in its game page. A compatible save is not evidence of achievement support, and an in-game notification may differ from account-level reporting.
Friends appear online but an invitation fails
Separate the launcher’s friends and chat layer from the game’s network layer. Check account sign-in, lobby access, the original launcher requirement and anti-cheat or runtime notes before treating the invitation failure as an account problem.

Single-player works but multiplayer does not
That result is possible and does not contradict a successful launch. Recheck the game-specific lobby and completed-match entries; those are distinct compatibility outcomes.
Is Xodus Nexus an official Xbox application?

It also is not a licensing workaround: you still need a qualifying purchase or subscription. The documented model is local installation and execution on Linux, not Xbox cloud streaming. If your goal is streaming rather than running the Windows game through a Linux runtime, that is a separate official Xbox path.
What is the practical verdict for saves, achievements and multiplayer?
Xodus Nexus can preserve meaningful parts of the Xbox account experience for supported games. Cloud saves may carry progress, achievements may be recorded, and version 0.4.0’s friends and chat features improve the social layer. None of those capabilities should be generalized from one title to the entire Game Pass catalog.
