The best Xbox Cloud Gaming alternative depends on how you expect to get games. If you already own supported PC titles, start with NVIDIA GeForce NOW; it links eligible Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG and Ubisoft libraries instead of charging you for another copy. PlayStation Plus Premium is the clearest choice for streaming a PlayStation-focused catalog, while Amazon Luna and Blacknut bundle curated libraries into subscriptions. Boosteroid is another bring-your-own-game option, and Shadow PC is a complete Windows computer in the cloud for installing games, launchers and other software yourself.
Every option is limited by country, device, game edition, network quality and controller support. Use a monthly plan first when possible, confirm the exact game and store version, and test your home connection before committing to a longer subscription.

Which Xbox Cloud Gaming alternative should you choose?
Choose by access model first, then check your country, device and exact game. The services are not interchangeable: some stream games you already own, some provide a fixed catalog, and one gives you a remotely accessible Windows desktop.
| Service | How games are accessed | Important platform details | Published network guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA GeForce NOW | Link supported games you already own through participating PC stores | Laptop, desktop, Mac, Chromebook, SHIELD TV, select Samsung and LG TVs, iPhone, iPad, Android, Steam Deck, VR headsets and Linux PC | On Fire TV, 15 Mbps for 720p/60 and 25 Mbps for 1080p/60; NVIDIA recommends Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center |
| PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming | Stream eligible PlayStation Store, Game Catalog, Classics Catalog and selected free-to-play titles | PS5 and PlayStation Portal cloud streaming; availability depends on Sony’s published country list | 5 Mbps minimum upload and download; Sony recommends 13 Mbps for 720p, 23 Mbps for 1080p, 38 Mbps for 1440p and 52 Mbps for 2160p/4K |
| Amazon Luna | Play a curated subscription catalog; Prime members receive Luna Standard with 60+ games under Amazon’s September 21, 2026 update | Fire TV, Fire tablets, Chrome or Edge on PC and Mac, Safari on iPhone and iPad, Android, and select Samsung and LG TVs | Amazon recommends at least 10 Mbps; 1080p play can use up to 10 GB per hour |
| Boosteroid | Buy supported paid games from their official distributor, then stream them | PCs, laptops, tablets, Android TV and phones; up to 60/120 frames per second and up to 4K subject to device and network conditions | Exact minimum figures depend on the stream setting and local conditions |
| Blacknut | Monthly subscription to a curated, growing library | Chrome or Safari, PC/Mac, Android TV and Android phones or tablets | Provider guidance varies by device and stream quality |
| Shadow PC | Rent a full Windows cloud computer and install your own games and software | USB or wireless support for many Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo and third-party controllers | Performance depends on your connection, the selected Shadow configuration and the games you install |
What is the difference between a bring-your-own-game service and a catalog subscription?
A bring-your-own-game service supplies a remote gaming computer but expects you to own a compatible license. A catalog subscription supplies the games as part of the membership, usually with less control over which titles are added or removed. A cloud PC gives you the most control because you install software yourself, but it also creates the most setup and licensing work.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
- Bring your own game: GeForce NOW and Boosteroid are the closest alternatives when your library is already on supported PC storefronts.
- Included catalog: PlayStation Plus Premium, Amazon Luna and Blacknut are simpler if you want to browse a defined selection without buying every title separately.
- Full cloud computer: Shadow PC is for launchers, mods and software that a fixed streaming catalog cannot provide. You still normally purchase and manage the game licenses.
A title appearing in a provider’s search is not enough. Store edition, downloadable content, anti-cheat behavior, regional rights and save support can differ, so check the provider’s current listing for the exact version you intend to play.
Is GeForce NOW the best choice for games I already own?
For many PC-library owners, yes. GeForce NOW is designed to connect supported store accounts and stream eligible games from Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Ubisoft and other linked services, so you do not repurchase a game merely to stream it.
Recommended Free Tools
How ownership and store linking work
You sign in to the participating store account inside GeForce NOW, then launch a game that NVIDIA supports. Ownership remains with the store; GeForce NOW provides the remote hardware and video stream. Support is title-specific, so two games from the same publisher or storefront may not have identical availability.
Where it runs
NVIDIA lists support for laptops, desktops, Macs, Chromebooks, SHIELD TV, select Samsung and LG televisions, iPhone, iPad, Android devices, Steam Deck, VR headsets and Linux PCs. TV model, operating-system version and input support can narrow that list, so check the device requirements before buying a controller or subscription.
Connection targets
NVIDIA’s Fire TV requirements call for 15 Mbps for 720p at 60 frames per second and 25 Mbps for 1080p at 60 frames per second. NVIDIA recommends Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and latency below 80 milliseconds to an NVIDIA data center. A faster connection cannot fully compensate for unstable Wi-Fi, congestion or a distant data center.
Who should choose it
- Choose GeForce NOW first if your main games are already supported in Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG or Ubisoft accounts.
- Check the exact game page before subscribing, especially for multiplayer titles with anti-cheat requirements or multiple editions.
- Expect to manage your own store logins, licenses and any publisher account required by the game.
Is PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming worth it for PlayStation games?
PlayStation Plus Premium is the strongest fit for a PlayStation-centered catalog, provided Sony supports cloud streaming in your country and on your device. It can stream a broad range of PS5 games, titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, and selected free-to-play games.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What you can stream
Eligibility is tied to Sony’s catalog and licensing arrangements. Some games can also be downloaded from PlayStation Store or included catalogs, but cloud eligibility is not universal. A game’s presence in a PlayStation catalog does not guarantee that every edition, expansion or region is streamable.
Bandwidth requirements by output resolution
| Use case | Sony’s published guidance |
|---|---|
| Minimum upload and download | 5 Mbps |
| 720p | 13 Mbps recommended |
| 1080p | 23 Mbps recommended |
| 1440p | 38 Mbps recommended |
| 2160p/4K | 52 Mbps recommended |
These are connection-speed targets, not guarantees of image quality. Other household traffic, Wi-Fi interference and distance to Sony’s streaming infrastructure can still cause delay or reduced resolution.

- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.
- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
When it is the wrong fit
Do not choose Premium solely because a game is listed in a PlayStation subscription. If the title is not cloud-enabled in your region, if you need a PC storefront library, or if you want to install arbitrary launchers and mods, another access model will fit better.
Does Amazon Luna work well without a console?
Amazon Luna is built around a curated library and supported screens, so you can play without buying a dedicated console or gaming PC. Amazon’s September 21, 2026 update says Prime members receive Luna Standard with more than 60 games; the included selection can change, so verify the current catalog before subscribing.
Supported screens and browsers
Access includes Fire TV, Fire tablets, Chrome or Edge on PC and Mac, Safari on iPhone and iPad, Android, and select Samsung and LG televisions. TV and mobile compatibility can depend on the model, operating-system version and available app or browser support.
Internet use and data planning
Amazon recommends at least 10 Mbps. Its help guidance warns that 1080p cloud gaming can consume up to 10 GB per hour. On a capped connection, four hours per week could approach 160 GB in a month at that maximum rate, before accounting for other household traffic.
Controller choices
The Luna Controller costs $69.99 in Amazon’s September 21, 2026 update and supports Cloud Direct, Bluetooth and USB-C. Amazon also lists Xbox and PlayStation controllers as compatible on supported devices, and a phone can act as a virtual controller. The first-party controller is optional rather than a prerequisite.
Who benefits most
Luna makes the most sense for a Prime household that already uses Fire TV or a compatible television and prefers an included catalog over managing PC storefront accounts. Confirm that the games you care about are in your local Luna catalog before treating the membership as a replacement for a console library.
Is Boosteroid a good second bring-your-own-game option?
Boosteroid is worth checking when you own a supported paid game and GeForce NOW is unavailable, unsupported or congested for that title. Boosteroid explicitly says it does not sell games, so you must buy the game from the official distributor before launching it there.
Resolution and frame-rate claims
Boosteroid supports streaming at 60 or 120 frames per second and up to 4K on PCs, laptops, tablets, Android TV and phones, subject to your device and network conditions. Those are maximum service capabilities, not a promise that every game, screen or connection will reach them.
Rank #3
- Multi-Platform PC Gaming Controller: Working with Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices via Bluetooth, wired, and wireless dongle connections.
- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
Controller compatibility
Its controller documentation lists DualShock 4, DualSense, wired Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series controllers. Vibration support varies by device, so test the controller on the exact platform you plan to use rather than assuming console-level features will carry over.
Checks before paying
- Confirm the exact game, publisher and store edition in Boosteroid’s current supported list.
- Make sure your account owns the paid game through the official distributor.
- Check whether required launchers, anti-cheat components or downloadable content are supported.
- Test at the intended resolution and frame rate on your home network.
Is Blacknut better for a simple family catalog?
Blacknut suits readers who want one monthly subscription and a curated, growing library instead of several PC storefront accounts. It supports Chrome or Safari, PC and Mac, Android TV, and Android phones and tablets.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →What the subscription changes
You access the games in Blacknut’s library on connected devices rather than purchasing a separate copy for each device. That convenience comes with catalog boundaries: the available games, languages and ratings can vary by country and can change over time.
What to verify locally
- Search the current catalog for the exact title, not just a similarly named sequel or edition.
- Confirm that your television, browser or Android device meets the current app requirements.
- Check controller support and whether the game’s local multiplayer features work on your chosen device.
Blacknut is a cleaner choice than a bring-your-own-game service when the goal is browsing an included selection, but it is less suitable when you need a particular PC storefront release or custom launcher.
Should you use Shadow PC for mods, launchers and non-catalog software?
Shadow PC is the most flexible option because it gives you a full Windows cloud computer rather than a fixed game-list subscription. Regulatory material describes users installing their own software and game libraries, which makes Shadow useful for launchers, mods and applications that catalog services do not expose.
What you control
You install the game, choose the launcher and manage updates inside Windows. That also means you are responsible for buying licenses, signing in to publisher accounts, configuring graphics settings and troubleshooting the software stack.
Input and accessory support
Shadow’s support documentation says many Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo and third-party controllers work through USB or wireless pairing. Compatibility can still depend on the client device and game, so test the exact controller connection before relying on it for competitive or couch play.
Trade-offs
- More control: install software and games that are not part of a managed streaming catalog.
- More responsibility: purchase licenses, manage storage and updates, and solve Windows or launcher errors yourself.
- Less console simplicity: the experience resembles operating a remote PC, not selecting a guaranteed game from a console menu.
Choose Shadow when installation freedom matters more than a short setup. If you simply want to press play on a known catalog, Luna, Blacknut or PlayStation Plus Premium is usually easier.

Which service works on your TV, phone or computer?
Device support is a practical filter: a service may be available in your country but still fail to run on your particular television or browser. Use the following map before comparing prices.
- Smart TVs: GeForce NOW supports select Samsung and LG TVs and SHIELD TV; Luna supports select Samsung and LG TVs plus Fire TV; Boosteroid supports Android TV. Check model and operating-system requirements.
- Phones and tablets: GeForce NOW supports iPhone, iPad and Android; Luna supports Safari on iPhone and iPad, Android and Fire tablets; Boosteroid supports phones and tablets; Blacknut supports Android phones and tablets.
- PC and Mac: GeForce NOW, Luna, Boosteroid, Blacknut and Shadow cover computer use, but the client or browser path differs. Blacknut lists Chrome or Safari as well as PC/Mac access, while Luna specifically lists Chrome or Edge on PC and Mac.
- PlayStation hardware: PlayStation Plus Premium is the platform-specific option in this group, with cloud streaming on PS5 and PlayStation Portal where Sony enables it.
- Portable and specialist devices: GeForce NOW lists Steam Deck, VR headsets and Linux PC support. Do not assume another provider’s phone or browser support extends to these devices.
How much internet speed and latency does cloud gaming need?
Use the provider’s minimum as a floor, not a target. Cloud gaming sends a continuous video stream to you and your inputs back to the server, so consistency and latency matter alongside download speed.

| Provider and scenario | Published requirement or recommendation |
|---|---|
| GeForce NOW on Fire TV, 720p/60 | 15 Mbps |
| GeForce NOW on Fire TV, 1080p/60 | 25 Mbps |
| GeForce NOW connection quality | Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi recommended; latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center |
| PlayStation Plus Premium minimum | 5 Mbps upload and download |
| PlayStation Plus Premium, 4K/2160p | 52 Mbps recommended |
| Amazon Luna | 10 Mbps recommended; up to 10 GB per hour at 1080p |
Ways to reduce stutter and input delay
- Connect the streaming device by Ethernet when practical.
- If using Wi-Fi, prefer a strong 5 GHz connection and stay close to the access point.
- Pause large downloads, video uploads and cloud backups during play.
- Test at the resolution you actually intend to use; a connection that handles 720p may struggle at 1080p or 4K.
- Repeat the test at the time you normally play, since evening congestion can change results.
Do you need a controller for cloud gaming?
A controller is not universally mandatory, but it is the safest assumption for console-style games. Support depends on the service, device, game and connection method.
- Amazon Luna supports its own controller, compatible Xbox and PlayStation controllers on supported devices, and a phone-based virtual controller.
- Boosteroid lists DualShock 4, DualSense, wired Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series controllers; vibration varies by device.
- Shadow PC supports many Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo and third-party controllers over USB or wireless pairing.
- GeForce NOW and PlayStation streaming can be used on devices with supported input, but the exact keyboard, mouse and controller behavior is game- and platform-dependent.
Pair the controller before launching the game, then verify button mapping and vibration in a low-stakes session. A controller that pairs with the phone may not pass through identically to a television or browser client.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do you choose and test an alternative step by step?
- Classify your library. Write down whether the games are on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Ubisoft, PlayStation catalogs or no storefront yet.
- Choose the access model. Select GeForce NOW or Boosteroid for supported owned PC games, PlayStation Plus Premium for a PlayStation catalog, Luna or Blacknut for an included library, and Shadow PC for a full Windows environment.
- Check country availability. Streaming regions and server coverage are not worldwide or uniform. Sony publishes a country list, while NVIDIA describes direct availability in North America, Europe, Japan and India plus Alliance partners elsewhere.
- Check the exact title. Confirm edition, DLC, launcher, anti-cheat behavior and save compatibility before paying.
- Match the device. Verify the model of your TV, phone, tablet, browser or console, not merely the operating-system family.
- Measure the connection. Compare your normal speed and latency with the provider’s guidance, then test at the intended resolution.
- Pair input and play a real session. Use the controller, headset and display you will actually use, and test at your busiest household time.
- Start monthly. Keep the first subscription short until the catalog, image quality, latency and save behavior meet your expectations.
What commonly goes wrong, and how can you fix it?
The game appears in a catalog but will not launch
Check the store edition, region, required launcher and downloadable content. A similarly named console release, deluxe edition or publisher account can be different from the supported PC or cloud version.
The picture is blurry or keeps dropping resolution
Move to Ethernet or stronger 5 GHz Wi-Fi, stop competing traffic and lower the target resolution. If the issue occurs only during busy evening hours, local congestion or the route to the provider may be the limiting factor rather than your advertised broadband speed.
Input feels delayed
Check latency to the provider’s data center, remove wireless interference and avoid routing through an unnecessary VPN. A service with a nearby region can feel better than one with a higher headline resolution but a longer network path.
The controller connects but features are missing
Vibration and button mapping can vary by device. Re-pair over USB or the provider’s recommended wireless method, update the controller, and test another supported client before concluding that the game itself is incompatible.

Progress does not appear on another service
Cloud saves are normally tied to the publisher or storefront account, not to the streaming provider. Sign in with the same underlying account and confirm that the title uses compatible cloud saves; changing providers does not automatically merge separate editions or save systems.
Which alternative is the best overall match?
For an existing Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG or Ubisoft library, begin with GeForce NOW and verify each title. For PlayStation games, choose PlayStation Plus Premium only where Sony enables cloud streaming in your country. A Prime household with a compatible TV should test Luna, while Blacknut is the simpler catalog choice for readers who do not want to manage multiple PC storefronts. Boosteroid is a useful second owned-game service, and Shadow PC is the specialist option when installation freedom, mods or non-catalog software matter more than console-style simplicity.

Can I switch cloud providers and keep my game saves?
Sometimes. Saves usually follow the publisher or storefront account, so using the same account can restore progress when both services launch the same edition and support its cloud-save system. A different platform edition, offline save or unsupported launcher can prevent the transfer.
Can cloud gaming replace a console for local multiplayer?
It can for some games, but controller count and local-multiplayer support are determined by the game and client device. Pair every controller before launching and confirm that the service passes multiple inputs to the title.
Does a higher broadband package guarantee better cloud gaming?
No. Speed helps sustain the video stream, while latency, jitter, Wi-Fi interference and the route to the provider affect responsiveness. A stable wired connection with modest speed can feel better than a faster but inconsistent wireless link.
What happens if a subscription game leaves its catalog?
Catalog access is conditional on the provider’s current licensing. Downloaded or streamed access can end when a title is removed, so treat a catalog subscription as access rather than permanent ownership and check the service’s current listing before starting a long game.
