WoW: Forever needs a 64-bit Windows 10 PC (May 2019 update or newer) or macOS 12 Mac, a four-core 3.0 GHz-class processor, a DirectX 12-capable 4 GB GPU on Windows, 8 GB memory, and 128 GB of available SSD space. Blizzard’s recommended Windows target rises to Windows 11, eight performance cores with a 5.2 GHz boost, an 8 GB DirectX 12 GPU, and 16 GB RAM; the recommended Mac target is macOS 15, an Apple M4 and 16 GB memory. Those are compatibility specifications, not FPS guarantees. For smooth play, verify every requirement, update the operating system and graphics driver, choose Classic or Enhanced, then adjust one option at a time in Game Menu > Options while observing your own typical gameplay.

What are the minimum requirements for WoW: Forever?
The minimum is a complete platform specification, not a single graphics-card number. A computer must meet the operating-system, processor, graphics, memory, storage, input and display lines together; meeting only one or two of them does not establish compatibility.
Windows minimum
| Component | Blizzard’s minimum | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit with the May 2019 Update or newer | Press Windows + R, enter winver, and confirm both the edition and update level. |
| Processor | Four cores at 3.0 GHz | Check the CPU model and its physical or logical core count in Task Manager or the manufacturer’s specification. |
| Graphics | DirectX 12-capable GPU with 4 GB of video memory | Run dxdiag and confirm the GPU model; then check the manufacturer’s memory and DirectX support. |
| System memory | 8 GB RAM | Task Manager > Performance > Memory shows installed RAM. |
| Storage | 128 GB available SSD space | File Explorer must show at least 128 GB free on the SSD that will hold the installation. |
| Display | Minimum 1280 × 720 | The monitor or laptop panel must support that resolution. |
| Other hardware | Broadband internet, keyboard and mouse | A stable connection and the listed input devices are part of the published platform table. |
Mac minimum
| Component | Blizzard’s minimum | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | macOS 12 | Install the latest compatible updates for the Mac before installing the game. |
| Processor | Apple M2 or ninth-generation Intel Core Coffee Lake | The table names these processor classes; it does not establish launch behavior for every earlier Apple chip. |
| Graphics | Metal-capable 4 GB GPU; Apple M2 8 GB is shown in the Apple-silicon entry | The Apple-silicon figure is unified memory, not a claim of 4 GB dedicated VRAM. |
| Memory | 8 GB | On Apple silicon, system and graphics memory are part of the unified-memory design. |
| Storage | 128 GB available SSD space | This is free capacity required for installation, not a published download-size figure. |
| Display and input | 1280 × 720 minimum; broadband; keyboard and mouse | These platform requirements also apply to the Mac configuration. |
The Mac entry specifically names M2 at minimum and M4 as recommended. It does not list M1. That omission does not prove that every M1 Mac will fail, nor does it provide an FPS expectation; owners should wait for a launch-era compatibility statement before treating an M1 as supported.

What are the recommended requirements?
Blizzard’s recommended tier is the sensible starting point if you want more graphics headroom, but it still does not promise a particular frame rate or quality preset.
| Component | Windows recommended | Mac recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 11 | macOS 15 |
| Processor | Eight performance cores with a 5.2 GHz boost clock; examples include Intel Core Ultra Series 2 and AMD Ryzen Zen 5 | Apple M4 |
| Graphics | DirectX 12-capable GPU with 8 GB video memory; examples include NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40-series, AMD RDNA 3 and Intel Arc B-series | Apple M4 16 GB graphics entry |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB unified memory |
| Storage | 128 GB available SSD space | 128 GB available SSD space |
| Display and input | 1280 × 720 minimum; broadband; keyboard and mouse | 1280 × 720 minimum; broadband; keyboard and mouse |
The processor and GPU families in Blizzard’s table are examples inside the broader core, clock, DirectX and memory requirements. A model that carries a similar product name can still differ in cores, memory or feature support, so compare the exact specification of the computer you own.
Is 128 GB the WoW: Forever download size?
No. Blizzard publishes 128 GB available SSD space, which means free capacity needed on the drive; it does not publish that number as the installer’s download size. The installed footprint, patch staging files, operating-system space and future updates can all differ from the amount downloaded.
Check the drive’s free space immediately before installation and leave additional room for normal updates rather than filling the disk to the requirement line. An SSD is explicitly named, so an older hard drive does not match the published storage target even if it has enough free gigabytes. If you are shopping for an “internal SSD for gaming PC,” confirm the drive interface, physical size, motherboard support and available slot before buying; no particular retail model is certified by Blizzard in the requirements table.
Will my old graphics card run WoW: Forever?
There are two different tests: Blizzard’s architecture cutoff and the storefront’s minimum specification. Passing the first only means the graphics architecture exposes a required feature; it does not mean the card reaches the 4 GB DirectX 12 minimum or will deliver a usable frame rate.

Architecture families Blizzard identifies
Blizzard’s GPU notice sets a feature-level floor at AMD Graphics Core Next 1 (2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014) and Intel Skylake (2015), or newer. Examples it lists as compatible include Radeon HD 7850, GeForce GTX 9xx and GTX 750/750 Ti, and Intel HD Graphics 530. The same notice cautions: “It’s important to note that these GPUs are still well below the minimum requirements for the game.” The stated reason for the cutoff is RGBA16F UAV support in compute shaders. See Blizzard’s GPU Requirements notice.

Cards Blizzard lists as unsupported examples
The notice names Radeon HD 6950, GeForce GTX 760/770/780, GTX 8xxM and Intel HD Graphics 6000 as unsupported examples. A mobile suffix, integrated design or older architecture can therefore matter even when a card’s model number looks close to a supported family.
How to check a Windows GPU
- Press Windows + R, type
dxdiag, and open the Display tab to record the exact GPU model and driver date. - Check the GPU maker’s specification for DirectX 12 support and video-memory capacity.
- Compare the architecture with Blizzard’s cutoff notice, then compare the card with the storefront’s 4 GB minimum or 8 GB recommended memory line.
- If the architecture passes but memory or the full system requirement does not, treat the machine as below minimum rather than “supported.”
Can I play WoW: Forever on a Mac?
Yes, Blizzard publishes separate Mac requirements, but the exact macOS and chip generation matter. Minimum Mac support starts at macOS 12, an Apple M2 or ninth-generation Intel Core Coffee Lake processor, 8 GB memory and a Metal-capable 4 GB GPU entry; the recommended table moves to macOS 15, Apple M4 and 16 GB.
Do not convert the “Apple M2 8 GB” line into a dedicated-VRAM claim. Apple-silicon Macs use unified memory, so the figure describes the system’s memory configuration rather than a removable graphics card. Also, the absence of M1 from the published table is not a launch verdict for every M1 model; wait for an updated compatibility statement or post-launch guidance.
What is the difference between Classic and Enhanced?
On first login, Blizzard offers two experience presets. Classic starts with simpler visuals, standard-definition character models and a more traditional interface. Enhanced starts with higher visual fidelity, high-definition models and a more feature-rich default interface.

These labels describe starting visual and interface choices, not measured performance tiers. Blizzard says individual options can be changed later. Character-level HD or SD model selection changes appearance only; it does not change abilities or progression. Pick the style you prefer, then use the in-game options to tune detail for your own display and hardware.
How should I configure settings for smooth performance?
No cited primary source establishes a universal “largest FPS gain” setting for WoW: Forever. The reliable method is a controlled adjustment on your own machine, using normal gameplay rather than a single menu scene.
- Confirm the baseline. Check every operating-system, CPU, GPU, RAM and available-SSD line, not just the graphics card. On Windows, update the operating system and graphics driver; Blizzard’s pre-install guidance calls for current versions.
- Choose a starting style. Select Classic for simpler visuals and interface defaults or Enhanced for higher-detail models and presentation. You can revise individual choices later.
- Open the graphics controls. From the game, use Game Menu > Options. Blizzard identifies this menu as the place to adjust graphics and display settings.
- Use a repeatable scene. Check the same busy city, combat encounter or other demanding activity you normally play. Observe smoothness, stutter and image quality rather than assuming a menu preview represents gameplay.
- Change one visual option. Adjust a single setting, return to the same situation and compare. Keeping several changes together prevents you from knowing which one helped or hurt.
- Keep the best trade-off. Retain a change only when the smoother feel is worth the visual reduction. If it makes no meaningful difference, restore the previous value and test another option.
- Record a stable profile. Note the options that work for your monitor and usual activity so a future driver or game update can be compared with the same baseline.
This procedure is troubleshooting guidance, not a Blizzard-tested ranking. In particular, do not present shadows, lighting, liquid detail, view distance, render scale or ray tracing as verified top-performing toggles without a game-specific measurement.
How can I tell low FPS from network lag?
Low frame rate is a local rendering problem; network lag is a connection or server-path problem. They can feel similar, so separate them before replacing hardware.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Signs of rendering pressure: the image stutters while local effects are visible, camera movement feels uneven, or reducing visual detail changes the behavior.
- Signs of network delay: characters or abilities respond late, other players appear to freeze and then catch up, or actions remain delayed while the picture itself stays smooth.
- First checks: close background downloads, use a stable broadband connection, update the operating system and graphics driver, and compare a quiet area with a crowded one.
- Escalation: Blizzard’s technical-support forum directs WoW FPS cases to its performance resource. Use current Blizzard support guidance after launch because the pre-release performance information does not provide a setting-by-setting fix.
How do I install and access WoW: Forever?
Blizzard says an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time includes access. Install through the Battle.net desktop app and select the WoW: Forever game version there; a physical copy, optional digital upgrade or paid repair utility is not listed as necessary.

Blizzard describes controller support as beta-state and recommends a multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel. A controller may work, but keyboard-and-mouse support is the published baseline, so treat gamepad behavior as subject to change.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should I upgrade if my PC is below minimum?
Upgrade the failed requirement first, in this order of certainty: operating system, available SSD capacity, system memory, GPU feature support and memory, then processor capability. This order reflects the published gates; it is not a measured performance ranking.
- Operating system: move to a supported 64-bit Windows or macOS release if the hardware can run it.
- Storage: free space or install a compatible SSD. Confirm interface, size and motherboard support before purchasing.
- RAM: reach 8 GB minimum or 16 GB recommended, provided the laptop or desktop allows an upgrade and uses compatible modules.
- GPU: replace an unsupported architecture or a card below the Windows memory line with a DirectX 12-capable model that fits the case, power supply and motherboard.
- CPU: replace a processor that falls short of the four-core 3.0 GHz minimum only when the platform supports a compatible upgrade; a motherboard and memory change may be required.
Do not buy a part solely because it is newer or carries a familiar series name. Match the exact requirement, physical compatibility and power needs, and remember that no cited source promises a specific FPS result from any one upgrade.
What is still unknown before launch?
Blizzard has published compatibility tables and two first-login experience presets, but no cited primary source provides measured WoW: Forever FPS for a particular GPU, CPU or graphics toggle. The game’s launch-era optimization, patch behavior and final settings labels may therefore differ from pre-release expectations.
Recheck the official storefront and Blizzard’s post-launch support articles on or after November 4, 2026. Treat third-party frame-rate claims as claims tied to their own hardware, resolution, drivers and game build, not as guarantees for your computer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does WoW: Forever require an SSD or will a hard drive work?
Blizzard’s published requirement specifically says 128 GB of available SSD space. A hard drive may be physically able to store files, but it does not match the stated storage requirement and no supported performance result is published for one.
Will lowering the resolution guarantee higher FPS in WoW: Forever?
Lowering resolution can reduce rendering work, but Blizzard has not published a WoW: Forever measurement proving how much any resolution change improves frame rate. Test it in the same demanding activity you normally play and keep the setting only if the visual trade-off is acceptable.
Recommended Free Tools
Can I switch between Classic and Enhanced after first login?
Yes. Blizzard describes them as starting experience presets and says individual graphics and interface options can be changed later in Game Menu > Options. The choice does not lock a character’s abilities or progression.
Is a controller officially supported at launch?
Blizzard describes controller support as beta-state. Keyboard and mouse remain the published baseline, so controller mappings and behavior may change as support is updated.
