In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, use the built-in Reforge service to give an equipped armor piece the visual model of another appearance while keeping its combat statistics. Finish the Master Armorers questline to unlock Yoana at Crow’s Perch, open her Reforge service, select the equipped piece, choose an appearance you have already acquired or registered, and confirm.
Reforge is a Remastered feature. The original pre-Remastered release has no official built-in transmog system, so a missing Reforge option usually means you are playing the wrong edition, have not unlocked Yoana, are speaking to the wrong master craftsman, or have not registered the appearance you want.

Reforge is the game’s appearance-over-stats system. It changes the visible model of a selected armor item without replacing that item’s combat properties. You can therefore keep a strong build equipped while displaying a different armor design.
CD PROJEKT RED describes the feature as letting players “Reforge your equipment to change its appearance without affecting its stats.” In practical terms, the item in your inventory remains the item that supplies armor value and other combat statistics; Reforge changes only how that item is shown on Geralt.

That distinction is the key to using the feature: you are not swapping the underlying armor item for the source of the look. You select the piece you want to keep using, then choose a visual appearance from the looks available to you. The selected item remains responsible for the combat properties you equipped it for. Reforge is therefore useful when the gear that suits your build is not the gear design you want Geralt to wear.
What do I need before changing Geralt’s armor appearance?
You need the Remastered edition, access to Yoana, and an appearance in your collection. The service is not available from every blacksmith.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered: Reforge is not part of the original pre-Remastered release.
- Master Armorers completed: Finishing this questline unlocks Yoana’s master-armorer services at Crow’s Perch.
- A source appearance: The look you want must already be acquired or registered in the available appearance collection. Reforge does not create an armor model from nothing.
- An armor item to modify: Reforge is applied to a selected equipped armor piece rather than to Geralt as a single global outfit.
These are separate checks. Owning the right edition does not automatically unlock Yoana, and unlocking Yoana does not automatically make every armor design selectable. Likewise, having a desired look in mind is not enough if its appearance has not been acquired or registered. If one requirement is missing, address that specific requirement rather than repeatedly checking the same menu.
How do I change Geralt’s armor appearance without dyes?
Once Yoana is available, the operation is a short sequence in her armor service. The armor keeps its original stats after you confirm the new model.
- Confirm the edition. Launch The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. If you are on the original release, the official Reforge menu will not appear.
- Complete Master Armorers. Follow the Master Armorers questline until Yoana is unlocked as a master armorer at Crow’s Perch. The questline is obtained through the blacksmith there.
- Return to Yoana. Interact with Yoana rather than a regular blacksmith or the weapon specialist Éibhear Hattori.
- Open Reforge. Choose Yoana’s Reforge service for armor. This is the appearance-change service you need, rather than a dye option.
- Select the equipped piece. Pick the chest armor, gloves, trousers, or boots whose visible model you want to replace. The selected item remains the item that supplies your build’s statistics.
- Choose a registered appearance. Select the acquired armor appearance you want from the collection shown by the service. If it is absent, obtain the relevant armor or diagram and make sure the appearance has been registered.
- Confirm the Reforge. Accept the change. The selected armor piece now displays the chosen model while retaining its existing combat statistics.
A useful way to avoid choosing the wrong item is to decide the role of each piece before opening the service: identify the item whose properties you want to retain, then choose a different appearance for that target. Do not treat the source armor as the new equipped item. Reforge is about assigning its look to the piece you selected.
If the result is not the full outfit you pictured, check which slot you changed. Reforge is a selected-item operation, so changing the chest armor does not necessarily change gloves, trousers, or boots. A complete visual combination may take several individual selections and confirmations.

Reforge is deliberately narrow: it changes the visual model and leaves the equipment’s gameplay values alone. The following distinctions help prevent surprises.

In other words, Reforge separates the visual choice from the equipped item’s combat function. Selecting another look should not be mistaken for changing armor value or replacing the item with the piece that supplied that appearance. If your goal is to improve combat properties, Reforge is not the step that does that; it is an appearance customization.

Who handles armor Reforge and who handles weapons?
Yoana and Éibhear Hattori are the two master craftsmen associated with Reforge, but they handle different equipment categories.

If you are trying to change the look of a chest piece, glove, trouser, or boot, searching Hattori’s weapon service will not solve the problem. Go back to Yoana for armor.
This distinction also explains why visiting a convenient blacksmith may not help. Reforge is not a general service offered by every merchant who works with equipment. The official feature is associated with the two master craftsmen, with Yoana responsible for armor. Check the equipment category as well as the NPC: a Reforge option for weapons does not mean that the same menu handles armor.
How is Reforge different from dyes?
Dyes recolor eligible armor, while Reforge swaps the visible model for another acquired appearance. They address different layers of customization, and an existing dye can remain after a Reforge.

For the specific goal of wearing one armor set’s design while keeping another set’s statistics, Reforge is the correct official method in Remastered. Use dyes when the model is right but the color is not.
The practical comparison is: ask whether you want a different color or a different silhouette and armor design. If only the color needs to change, a dye addresses that. If you want the overall model of another armor appearance while retaining your equipped item’s combat values, Reforge addresses that. The methods are not mutually exclusive: according to CD PROJEKT RED’s feature announcement, dyes already applied are preserved when equipment is Reforged.
Edition matters too. The original pre-Remastered version did not have official built-in transmog, even though dyes could recolor armor and mods were used for appearance-over-stats changes. Do not confuse those earlier workarounds with the Remastered Reforge service; if you cannot access Reforge, first verify which version you are playing.
Why can’t I find the Reforge option?
Most missing-menu problems have a straightforward cause. Check the edition, unlock state, merchant, and appearance collection in that order.

You are playing the original release
The pre-Remastered game did not include official built-in transmog. Dyes can recolor equipment, and mods were previously used for appearance-over-stats changes, but neither creates the official Reforge menu in that edition. Verify the game edition before looking for a missing quest or menu.
Master Armorers is unfinished
Yoana’s armor Reforge service becomes available after the Master Armorers questline is completed. If she is not functioning as the master armorer you expect, finish the questline and return to her afterward. The questline is obtained through the blacksmith at Crow’s Perch; returning to Yoana before completing it will not meet the stated unlock requirement.

You are speaking to the wrong craftsman
Hattori’s Reforge service is for weapons. Armor Reforge belongs to Yoana, so a weapon-focused menu will not list Geralt’s chest, glove, trouser, or boot appearances. A regular blacksmith is not automatically an alternative, because Reforge is restricted to the master craftsmen.
The desired look is not registered
Reforge does not expose every armor design automatically. Acquire the source armor or relevant diagram and ensure the appearance is registered in your available collection. Once registered, it can be selected when you Reforge the target piece.
When a particular look is missing, distinguish between “I know what the armor looks like” and “its appearance is available to this service.” The latter is what matters for selection. Check for the armor or relevant diagram associated with the missing design, then verify its appearance has been registered. There is no appearance to select until that requirement is met.
You expected one selection to change the entire outfit
Reforge is presented as a selected-item operation. Changing one piece does not necessarily restyle every other armor slot, so treat a full visual makeover as a sequence of individual piece changes rather than an automatic set-wide swap. If only one part of Geralt’s outfit changed, that is consistent with selecting only that piece; repeat the process for any other slots you want to alter.
Can I keep my strongest armor while using another set’s look?
Yes. This is the central use case for Reforge. Equip the armor piece whose statistics you want, open Yoana’s Reforge service, and assign it an appearance from your registered collection. The visible model changes, but the equipped piece continues to provide its original combat statistics.
This separation also lets you make visual choices without rebuilding a character setup around a weaker or differently configured item. Reforge is cosmetic, so selecting a different model is not the same as equipping that model’s underlying armor.

For example, if you prefer the look of an armor piece you acquired earlier but want to continue using the combat properties of your current equipped piece, use the earlier piece as the appearance choice and the current piece as the target. The source supplies the look; the target remains the equipment whose statistics matter. The important requirement is that the source appearance is acquired or registered and available in the collection.
How should I plan a coordinated armor set?
Plan the look by slot. Start with the appearance you want for the chest piece, then repeat the service for gloves, trousers, and boots as needed. Because the operation targets a selected item, a coordinated outfit may require several confirmations at Yoana rather than one global command.
- Choose the combat item you intend to keep in each slot.
- Check that the matching visual appearance is acquired or registered.
- Reforge each slot that needs a different model.
- Review the result after each confirmation, especially if you are combining pieces from different armor sets.
- Leave a slot unchanged when its current model already fits the appearance you want.
Thinking in slots helps prevent a common expectation mismatch: a set name or matching design does not turn Reforge into a set-wide operation. Make a short list of the pieces you want to change, and treat each selected armor item as its own appearance decision. If only the chest needs a new model, there is no need to change gloves, trousers, or boots.
You can also build a mixed look rather than copying a complete set, provided the appearances for the individual pieces are available. Choose the look for each target slot separately. This keeps the process focused on the style you want while preserving the combat item already assigned to each slot.

If you are deciding what to try first, use the simplest matching option. A color-only change points to dyes; a full-model change while keeping stats points to Reforge in Remastered. If you are on the pre-Remastered release, do not spend time searching for an official built-in Reforge menu that version does not have. Do I have to own the armor whose appearance I want to use?
The appearance must be acquired or registered in the collection before it can be selected. If a look is missing, obtain the relevant armor or diagram and check that its appearance has been registered.
Can I make a complete four-piece outfit with Reforge?
