Witchbrook is scheduled to launch digitally on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. Chucklefish has announced a $24.99 digital launch price, although regional prices may differ. A US pre-order is not confirmed: Nintendo storefront status varies by region, and a listing that says “Wish list now” is not accepting a pre-order.
To prepare, use the Nintendo eShop listing for your own Nintendo Account region and console version. Proceed only when Nintendo shows its official “Proceed to pre-order” button. Then check the estimated download size, free storage, payment timing and whether you are viewing the original Switch or Switch 2 product page.

Can I pre-order Witchbrook on Switch yet?
Not necessarily. The Australian Nintendo listing retrieved for this guide says “Wish list now,” while the accessible US Switch 2 listing identifies a digital edition without exposing an actionable pre-order button. Those observations do not establish the status of every regional eShop, so check your own listing rather than relying on a retailer page or an older announcement.
- Open the correct listing. Search for Witchbrook in the Nintendo eShop on your console, or use Nintendo’s Witchbrook listing at Nintendo’s product page. Confirm that the page is for Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 as appropriate, and that your Nintendo Account region matches the storefront you are viewing.
- Read the action button literally. Nintendo’s eligible-title process uses Proceed to pre-order. Select that button only if it appears and complete the checkout screens. A Wish list now control saves the game for later; it does not reserve a copy, charge your account or create a pre-order.
- Review the checkout details. Check the displayed currency, price, release date and account used for the purchase. Chucklefish’s announced $24.99 price is a digital launch price, not a guarantee that every country will show the same numeric amount.
- Keep the confirmation. Save Nintendo’s order confirmation and monitor the same eShop listing for changes. Do not assume that a pre-order opening date, bonus item or retailer offer exists until Nintendo or Chucklefish publishes it for your region.
The release announcement from Chucklefish and co-developer Robotality states that the game is coming on January 28, 2027 to PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5. That is a scheduled date, not evidence that the game has shipped; the current publisher announcement is the date to use instead of older Witchbrook material that still mentions 2026. See Chucklefish’s release-date announcement.

If you are checking the eShop on a phone or computer, make sure the storefront region is the one attached to the Nintendo Account you plan to use. A page for another region may display a different price, size estimate or button. The console eShop is a practical final check because it shows the listing available to that account and hardware. If only a wish-list option is shown, you can save the listing and check again later; there is no need to treat it as a completed reservation.
When does Witchbrook download if I pre-order?
Nintendo’s standard digital pre-order system processes payment no earlier than seven days before release and then makes a non-playable pre-load available. For a January 28, 2027 launch, that rule means payment will not be taken before January 21, but it does not promise that Witchbrook will pre-load at a particular hour or even that a regional listing will open pre-orders.
- Before payment: Nintendo allows an eligible pre-order to be cancelled before payment and pre-load. Make any changes before those events occur.
- Payment and pre-load: Nintendo processes the payment no earlier than seven days before the scheduled release. If the payment fails, Nintendo can cancel the order. The downloaded files are locked and cannot be played before launch.
- On release day: The pre-loaded title appears on the HOME Menu but needs a small unlock update before it can start. Keep the console connected to the internet around launch so that update can complete.
- If you buy after launch: A normal digital purchase begins downloading after checkout. A Nintendo Account, internet access, eShop access and enough available storage are required.
These are Nintendo’s general rules for eligible digital titles, not a Witchbrook-specific guarantee. Nintendo documents the procedure, payment window and cancellation conditions at its pre-order support page.
The seven-day rule is a latest-start boundary for payment, not a promise that Nintendo will charge every order exactly seven days before launch. Keep the payment method or account balance you intend to use in good standing as the processing window approaches, and check Nintendo’s order status if you receive a payment notice. A failed payment can cancel the pre-order, so do not assume that placing the order months earlier guarantees it will remain active through launch.
Pre-loading is for convenience: it places the game files on the console ahead of release, but does not grant early access. The title remains unplayable until launch and the small unlock update is installed. If you prefer to wait, a standard purchase after release starts its download after checkout, subject to internet access and free storage.
How big is Witchbrook on Switch?
The available eShop listings give estimates rather than a final measured installation size. The US Nintendo listing estimates 1.2 GB for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2; the Australian listing estimates 1.1 GB for each. Regional listings can differ, and the figures may change before release, so leave additional room for updates.

| Listing | Switch estimate | Switch 2 estimate | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| US Nintendo listing, observed 2026 | 1.2 GB | 1.2 GB | Estimated eShop figure; not a final installed-size measurement |
| Australian Nintendo listing, observed 2026 | 1.1 GB | 1.1 GB | Estimated regional figure; not a guarantee for another country |
Check the size shown on your own console’s product page immediately before downloading. A game of roughly 1.1–1.2 GB normally fits on available internal storage for many players, but screenshots, updates and other downloaded games can consume the remaining space.
These numbers are storefront estimates, not a verified final installed footprint or a measurement from a finished release build. The half-gigabyte-style difference between regional listings should not be read as proof that one console version has more content than another: both the US and Australian listings show the same estimate for their two console generations. Use the estimate displayed for your region and allow some spare capacity rather than planning to fill storage exactly to the listed number.

Before deleting or moving anything, look at the free-space figure in Data Management. If it is greater than the eShop estimate and you have room left for ordinary system use and future updates, you may not need to buy anything. If the console is nearly full, freeing space or choosing the right compatible expansion card is a decision about your whole installed library, not a requirement established specifically for Witchbrook.
How do I check and free storage on the original Switch, Lite or OLED?
Use the console’s Data Management screen before purchasing extra storage. Nintendo provides archive, delete and move tools that handle downloaded software without erasing save data.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open System Settings > Data Management to view free space and the software using it.
- Choose Manage Software to select a game you no longer need immediately.
- Select Archive Software to remove the downloaded program while retaining its HOME Menu icon and save data. Selecting the icon later lets you redownload the software.
- Use Quick Archive when you want to process multiple eligible titles from one screen.
- Use Delete Software when you also want the HOME Menu icon removed. Nintendo says deleting downloaded software does not delete its save data.
- For eligible installed software, open Data Management > Move Data Between System / microSD Card and follow the prompts.
Original Switch hardware, including Switch Lite and OLED, accepts microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards. Nintendo specifies microSDXC support up to 2 TB and says a system update is required before using a microSDXC card. Downloadable software can be stored on a compatible card, but game saves remain in the console’s system memory. Nintendo’s management instructions are at How to manage or delete downloadable software.
Think of the three choices as different ways to manage installed software. Archive removes the downloaded program but keeps its HOME Menu icon for later redownloading. Delete removes both the software and its icon, while leaving save data intact. Move transfers eligible software between system memory and a compatible microSD card; it is not a way to move the save file itself onto the card.
If you archive a game to make room, you can redownload it later, but you will need an internet connection and enough storage at that time. If you use a card, check compatibility and install the required system update for microSDXC before expecting the card to work. The Switch family’s microSD options should not be confused with Switch 2’s different game-storage requirement.
Does Switch 2 use the same microSD card?
No. Switch 2 requires a microSD Express card for removable storage of downloadable games. An ordinary microSD card used with an original Switch cannot serve as Switch 2 game storage merely because its label includes “microSD.” Look specifically for the microSD Express standard.
| Storage question | Original Switch family | Nintendo Switch 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Removable game-storage standard | microSD, microSDHC or microSDXC | microSD Express required for downloadable games |
| Maximum capacity Nintendo specifies | microSDXC up to 2 TB | Supported microSD Express cards up to 2 TB |
| Built-in storage | Varies by model | 256 GB, with part reserved for system use |
| Save-data location | System memory | System memory |
| Move-data menu | Data Management > Move Data Between System / microSD Card | System Settings > Data Management > Move System / microSD Express Card Data |
On Switch 2, some update data and game saves cannot be moved to the card. Nintendo’s support FAQ states: “Game save data cannot be copied to a microSD Express card.” Deleting downloaded software still leaves save data in system memory. Read the complete compatibility details at Nintendo’s microSD Express FAQ.
Switch 2 has 256 GB of built-in storage, but part of it is reserved for system use, so the headline capacity is not the same as the amount available for games. Check the Data Management screen for the actual free space on your console. For eligible installed software, the Switch 2 menu is System Settings > Data Management > Move System / microSD Express Card Data. Nintendo notes that some update data cannot be moved, in addition to the save-data restriction.

If you already own a regular microSD card for an original Switch, do not buy or insert it expecting it to expand Switch 2 game storage. The card standard is the key compatibility distinction. If you eventually need more room on Switch 2, look for a Nintendo Switch 2 microSD Express card; supported Express cards reach 2 TB. That is an optional expansion decision, not a prerequisite for downloading a game whose current listing estimate is around 1.1–1.2 GB.
Do I need an expansion card for Witchbrook?
Not automatically. The current regional estimates are only 1.1 GB or 1.2 GB, so first compare that figure with the free space shown in Data Management. Buy expansion only when your actual library and available capacity justify it, and choose the card standard for your console.
Recommended Free Tools
- Original Switch, Lite or OLED: A Nintendo Switch-compatible microSDXC card is the relevant expansion type. Install it only after confirming the console has the required system update for microSDXC.
- Switch 2: Choose a Nintendo Switch 2 microSD Express card. A conventional Switch microSD card is not a substitute for game storage on Switch 2.
- Save files: Expansion cards store downloadable software and related data; saves remain in system memory, so adding a card does not relocate your Witchbrook save.
Nintendo also supports eShop Cards as a way to fund purchases. They are a general payment option, not a Witchbrook-specific pre-order product; details are available in Nintendo’s eShop Card information.
Use a simple decision check: if your console has enough free space for the listing estimate and some headroom, you can download without buying an expansion card. If you are already short on space, archive or delete software you can redownload later, or consider a compatible card based on how much of your library you want installed at once. The existing size estimates do not establish a mandatory card purchase, and no particular card brand or model has been tested here.
The announced digital price is $24.99 in Chucklefish’s announcement, with regional prices still to come. Nintendo eShop Cards are one documented way to fund an eShop purchase, but they do not change whether a pre-order is open or guarantee the final amount in a particular currency. Review the price and payment details shown for your account at checkout.
Which Witchbrook edition and platform should I select?
Choose the listing that matches the hardware you will use. Nintendo has separate listings for Switch generations, so do not treat a Switch 2-labelled digital page as proof that you selected the original Switch version. Verify the platform label immediately before checkout.

There is no confirmed information that one digital purchase covers both Switch generations, so inspect the product description and purchase terms on the listing you are considering rather than assuming cross-generation access. Likewise, the later physical Standard and Collector’s Editions are not a confirmed substitute for the digital launch: their platform support, order details and physical format remain unspecified. If you are waiting for a cartridge, wait for a specific announcement naming the platform and edition before treating an offer as available.
For play options, Nintendo lists one player locally and up to four online. The paid Nintendo Switch Online membership requirement applies to online play; it does not make membership necessary simply to download the game or play solo locally. Additional storage is also separate from online access and is not implied to be necessary for solo play.
What should I do if a purchased Witchbrook download is missing?
Use Nintendo’s general recovery path before assuming the purchase failed or the game is unavailable.
- Look for the download indicator on the HOME Menu and open it to see whether the title is queued, paused or waiting for an update.
- Check the console’s internet connection and confirm that you are signed in to the Nintendo Account that made the purchase.
- Open System Settings > Data Management and verify that enough free space remains. Archive another title if necessary, then retry the download.
- Check Virtual Game Cards for a purchased title that is eligible to be redownloaded.
- If the eShop listing still does not appear, confirm that you are viewing the same Nintendo Account region and console version used at checkout.
This checklist comes from Nintendo’s general downloadable-software guidance at its missing-download support page; it is not evidence of a Witchbrook-specific bug.
Work through the checks in order: a queued or paused download is different from a missing purchase, while insufficient free space can prevent a download from completing. If a title is eligible to be redownloaded, Virtual Game Cards is another place to check. Use the account and region associated with the original transaction rather than assuming that a listing in a different regional storefront will show the same status.
What should I verify before January 28, 2027?
- Confirm that the eShop shows the correct Switch generation and your region’s currency.
- Look for Proceed to pre-order, not merely Wish list now.
- Check the current regional size estimate and leave headroom for the unlock update and later patches.
- Use the correct storage standard: microSDXC for the original Switch family, microSD Express for Switch 2.
- Keep payment details current during the seven-day pre-release processing window if a pre-order is accepted.
- Recheck the publisher’s release page for any change to the January 28 date, digital price, physical-edition platforms or regional availability.
For the least surprising setup, verify the console label first, then the regional eShop action and price, and finally the free-space figure on the hardware you will use. That avoids the most common mismatches: saving a wish-list entry instead of ordering, opening the listing for the other Switch generation, or buying an incompatible storage card. The release date, regional order controls and estimated file size can be checked again as launch approaches.

What does “Wish list now” mean on the Witchbrook listing?
It means the storefront is offering a reminder or saved listing rather than an order. It does not reserve a digital copy, schedule payment or guarantee access to a pre-load; availability can change by Nintendo Account region.
Is one Witchbrook purchase confirmed to cover both Switch and Switch 2?
No cross-generation entitlement is established in the announced information. Because Nintendo presents listings for both generations, inspect the product description and purchase terms for your region instead of assuming a single purchase covers both.

Will the planned physical edition include a Switch game card?
That has not been announced. Chucklefish has said Standard and Collector’s Editions are planned after the digital launch, but it has not identified their platforms or explained whether a particular edition will contain a full game card.
Can I move a Witchbrook save to a different Switch using a microSD Express card?
No. Nintendo says game save data cannot be copied to a microSD Express card. Use Nintendo’s supported account and console-transfer features if you need to move saves; the storage card itself is for downloadable software data.

A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online play, which Nintendo lists for one to four players. The membership is not required merely to play solo locally or manage the download.
Can I play Witchbrook while it is pre-loaded?
No. Nintendo’s pre-loaded titles appear on the HOME Menu but remain unplayable until release and a small unlock update. A pre-load is a way to prepare the files, not early access.
How much storage should I leave free?
Current listings estimate 1.1 GB in Australia and 1.2 GB in the US for either console generation. Check your regional listing before downloading and leave additional room for updates; the estimate is not a final installed-size measurement.
Can I use an ordinary Switch microSD card for Switch 2 games?
No. Switch 2 requires a microSD Express card for removable storage of downloadable games. Original Switch cards using the ordinary microSD standard are not a substitute.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Witchbrook is scheduled for a January 28, 2027 digital launch on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 at an announced $24.99 price, but do not assume a regional pre-order is open until your eShop listing shows Proceed to pre-order. Nintendo’s general process charges no earlier than seven days before release and offers a locked pre-load. Current eShop size estimates are about 1.1–1.2 GB; check your console’s actual free space before buying storage. Original Switch uses compatible microSD cards, while Switch 2 requires microSD Express for game storage, and save data remains in system memory on both.
