To check whether your Windows 11 PC currently supports LE Audio, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices and look under Device settings for Use LE Audio when available. If the switch is there, turn it on. If it is missing, Microsoft says the Windows device does not currently support LE Audio; the cause may be a hardware limitation or missing or incompatible drivers.

The PC and the headset, earbuds, or hearing aids must each support LE Audio. A generic Bluetooth LE label—or even Bluetooth Core Specification 5.3 support—does not by itself establish compatibility.

How do I check whether my Windows 11 PC supports LE Audio?

Use the Windows setting as the first check. Microsoft identifies the Use LE Audio when available switch as the user-facing test for current LE Audio support on the PC.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Bluetooth & devices > Devices.
  3. Find the Device settings section.
  4. Look for Use LE Audio when available. If the switch appears, enable it to use LE Audio when available.

If the switch is absent, Microsoft’s guidance is that the Windows device does not currently support LE Audio. That answer describes the PC’s current support as Windows sees it; it does not identify whether the underlying issue is hardware, a driver, or both.

What the switch does—and does not—tell you

A visible switch is the most direct built-in indication that the PC currently exposes LE Audio support. It is not a compatibility check for every connected accessory. A headset or hearing aid also needs to support LE Audio, and the particular features available depend on the hardware and supported profiles.

Conversely, a missing switch should not be treated as proof that a compatible PC could never support LE Audio. Microsoft notes that a manufacturer driver update may add support later. The switch reports the device’s current state, not a promise about future driver or hardware support.

What does a PC need for Windows LE Audio?

Windows support depends on several parts working together. A compatible Windows version is necessary, but the Bluetooth radio, audio codec, and manufacturer-provided drivers must also support the relevant LE Audio paths.

  • Windows: Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer.
  • Bluetooth hardware: compatible Bluetooth LE support in the PC’s radio.
  • Audio support: a compatible audio codec.
  • Drivers: LE Audio-capable drivers supplied by the PC or component manufacturer for both the Bluetooth LE radio and the audio codec.
  • Accessory: a headset, earbuds, or other audio device that independently supports LE Audio.

These requirements explain why one specification on a product page cannot settle the question. Bluetooth LE describes radio capability; it does not establish that the audio codec and driver stack support LE Audio on that particular Windows device.

Why drivers matter

Microsoft’s driver documentation describes LE Audio as introduced in Windows 11 version 22H2 (KB5026446). Windows uses vendor-specific audio paths and the ACX audio-driver framework; the controller, codec, and audio drivers all participate in creating audio endpoints and selecting formats. In practical terms, a radio that can handle Bluetooth LE is only one part of the chain. The required manufacturer drivers must expose the right capabilities to Windows.

Does Bluetooth 5.3 mean my laptop supports LE Audio?

No. Bluetooth version alone does not prove that the full LE Audio requirements are met. Microsoft documents Bluetooth Core Specification 5.3 support for all editions of Windows 11 version 22H2, but its LE Audio checklist also requires compatible codecs and manufacturer drivers.

That distinction matters when comparing PC specifications. A listing that says “Bluetooth 5.3” or “Bluetooth LE” is not equivalent to an explicit statement that the exact PC model supports LE Audio in Windows. Check the Windows setting, then consult the PC maker’s specifications or support information if you need to confirm model-specific radio, codec, and driver support.

Why can’t I see “Use LE Audio when available”?

A missing switch means LE Audio is not currently available on that Windows device. It may reflect a Windows version that is too old, unsupported Bluetooth or audio hardware, or a missing or incompatible manufacturer driver.

Check the Windows version

LE Audio is supported on Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer. Microsoft states that it is not supported on Windows 10 or Windows 11 version 21H2. If the PC is running either excluded version, the LE Audio switch will not be available under Microsoft’s documented support boundaries.

Check the PC maker’s driver support

If the PC meets the Windows version requirement but the switch is still absent, check the manufacturer’s support information for the exact PC model. Look for LE Audio-capable drivers for both the Bluetooth LE radio and the audio codec. A generic Bluetooth driver or an indication that the PC supports Bluetooth LE does not establish that its LE Audio driver path is in place.

Install only drivers intended for the PC or component and supported by its manufacturer. After an applicable driver update, return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices and check again. Microsoft says a manufacturer driver update may add LE Audio support, but an update cannot make unsupported hardware compatible.

Interpret the result carefully

  • Switch present: Windows currently offers the LE Audio setting for the PC. Enable it, then verify the accessory’s own support.
  • Switch absent and Windows 10 or 11 version 21H2: the operating-system version is outside Microsoft’s supported range.
  • Switch absent on a newer Windows 11 version: current support is not exposed on the device. Check the PC maker’s model-specific hardware and driver information; the setting alone does not reveal which component is responsible.

Do my earbuds or headset need LE Audio or TMAP?

Yes: the accessory must support LE Audio as well as the PC. Microsoft advises checking the accessory maker’s specifications for explicit Bluetooth LE Audio support and/or the TMAP profile. If those details are unclear, ask the manufacturer about the specific model.

Do not assume that every Bluetooth 5.x headset, pair of earbuds, or hearing aid supports LE Audio. Bluetooth generation labels are not a substitute for a stated LE Audio or TMAP capability. Also check whether the manufacturer makes a Windows compatibility statement; accessory support in general does not necessarily confirm compatibility with a particular PC or adapter.

What to check on the accessory’s product or support page

  • Whether the exact model lists Bluetooth LE Audio or TMAP support.
  • Whether the manufacturer states Windows compatibility, rather than support for another device or operating system only.
  • Whether microphone and call functions are covered if you need the accessory for calls, not only listening.
  • How firmware updates are handled and whether the manufacturer documents any model-specific requirements.
  • Whether the manufacturer names your exact PC or Bluetooth adapter as compatible, if that information is available.

These checks help separate two different questions: whether the PC can use LE Audio and whether a particular accessory can use it with that PC. Both sides must support the feature for the combination to work.

What does Windows LE Audio support enable?

Microsoft describes LE Audio as supporting use cases that include hearing aids, multi-device audio sharing, and more efficient wireless audio experiences. Those possibilities depend on the supported hardware and profiles; the presence of the Windows switch does not mean every LE Audio feature is available with every accessory.

For a specific use—such as hearing-aid connectivity, sharing audio across devices, or making calls—confirm that the feature is supported by both the Windows device and the relevant accessory. General LE Audio support is not the same as confirmation of a particular profile or function.

What is the practical way to confirm a complete setup?

Check the PC and accessory separately, then match their model-specific information. The Windows switch establishes the PC’s current user-facing support status, while manufacturer specifications establish whether the accessory supports LE Audio or TMAP.

  1. Confirm that the PC runs Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer.
  2. Check for and enable Use LE Audio when available under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices > Device settings.
  3. Verify that the exact headset, earbuds, or hearing aids list Bluetooth LE Audio and/or TMAP support.
  4. Review the PC and accessory manufacturers’ compatibility and driver information, especially if the switch is absent or the exact device combination is not documented.

If any one of those checks fails, do not infer LE Audio readiness from a Bluetooth version number alone. The Windows setting and the two manufacturers’ model-specific information are the relevant checks for the complete setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can LE Audio work if my headphones support it but my PC does not?

No. The Windows PC and the audio accessory each need LE Audio support; an LE Audio-capable headset cannot add the required radio, codec, or driver support to an incompatible computer.

Will LE Audio always improve sound quality or battery life?

The support information establishes LE Audio as enabling more efficient wireless audio experiences, but it does not promise a particular sound-quality or battery-life improvement for every device. Actual capabilities depend on the supported hardware and profiles.

Can Windows LE Audio connect to more than one audio device at once?

Microsoft identifies multi-device audio sharing as an LE Audio use case, but support for that feature depends on compatible hardware and profiles. A PC’s LE Audio switch by itself does not confirm that a particular sharing setup is supported.
