Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf Wi-Fi is slow only on your iPhone, compare it with another device on the same network, then try the iPhone on a different Wi-Fi network. If the slowdown follows the iPhone, check its software, VPN or security filters, and Wi-Fi settings. If it stays with one network, look at the router, signal, and internet service.
First, pinpoint what is actually slow
Note whether the problem is slow web pages, streaming, downloads, or joining or maintaining a Wi-Fi connection. Check that the iPhone is connected to the expected Wi-Fi network and whether cellular data appears to be in use. A Wi-Fi connection and an internet connection are not the same thing: poor signal, router congestion, DNS or VPN filtering, and an internet-service problem can all feel like “slow Wi-Fi.”

Use two comparisons to locate the problem
- Try another device on the same Wi-Fi. If it is slow too, the iPhone is less likely to be the only cause. Investigate the router, local network, or internet service.
- Try the iPhone on a different Wi-Fi network. If it works normally there, focus on the original network. If it is slow across unrelated networks while other devices work, focus on the iPhone or its settings.
Apple recommends checking other devices and trying another location or network to distinguish a device issue from a network-specific one. Apple’s iPhone Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide
If the problem follows the iPhone
Restart and update iOS
Restart the iPhone and install any available iOS update. These are sensible first checks for connectivity problems before changing network settings. Apple’s connectivity troubleshooting guidance

Temporarily test VPN or security filtering
A VPN or third-party security app that monitors or filters connections can interfere with some connections. Apple recommends removing the software for a test, restarting, and checking again. If the connection improves, contact the software provider or administrator rather than leaving a required protection tool removed. For a work- or school-managed iPhone, ask IT before removing managed software or settings. Apple’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide
Review settings for the affected Wi-Fi network
Open Settings > Wi-Fi, then tap the information button beside the network. Check DNS, HTTP Proxy, and Low Data Mode. If DNS or proxy details were set by an employer, school, provider, or network administrator, find out why before changing them. Apple documents these settings in its Wi-Fi settings guidance.

Leave Private Wi-Fi Address enabled by default. It uses a private address for a Wi-Fi network to help reduce tracking. Turning it off is not a general speed fix; consider it only if a specific network’s administrator identifies a compatibility or authorization issue, and understand the privacy trade-off. Connectivity Assist can use cellular data to improve an internet connection when Wi-Fi is slow or unusable, which can make a weak Wi-Fi connection seem better than it is and increase cellular data use. Apple’s current guidance places the setting in Wi-Fi settings and says it supersedes Wi-Fi Assist on updated software. Check whether cellular data is being used when comparing performance. If the problem stays with one Wi-Fi network
Check coverage, router, and internet service
- Try the iPhone closer to the router. If performance improves, range or obstacles may be involved.
- Restart the router and modem, and check whether router firmware is current.
- If the router offers separate Wi-Fi bands, compare them. Apple uses 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz as examples in its troubleshooting guidance; the best result can depend on range and the network environment.
- Check that the router supports the Apple device. Apple’s router recommendations also address radio modes, security, DNS, and NAT.
- If all devices have trouble reaching the internet, contact the internet provider. If this is a hotel, school, workplace, or public network, contact its administrator if you do not manage it.
For router settings, Apple recommends enabling WMM; it warns that disabling WMM can affect performance and reliability. Avoid changing advanced controls unless you know how to restore the original settings. Apple’s recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

Save Reset Network Settings for last
Reset Network Settings is more disruptive than restarting or checking an individual Wi-Fi network’s settings. Apple says it removes saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, along with cellular, VPN, and APN settings. You may need to rejoin networks and restore required settings afterward. If the iPhone is managed by work or school, consult IT before resetting. Apple’s reset and troubleshooting guidance
