The best Ryzen laptop depends on what you do with it. For a premium all-purpose machine, the ASUS Zenbook S 16 UM5606 is the strongest pick in Laptop Mag’s 2025 roundup. The ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is the value choice, the Razer Blade 14 (Early 2024) is the high-end gaming option, the ASUS TUF Gaming A14 targets more mobile gaming, and the ASUS ProArt P16 is the best fit here for GPU-accelerated creative work. A current sixth option, the ASUS Vivobook 14 (2026), is worth considering for basic productivity but is not part of that five-model 2025 shortlist. Treat every recommendation as configuration-specific: Ryzen branding spans several generations, and the graphics chip, memory, display and cooling system can change the experience more than the CPU name alone.

Which Ryzen laptop is best for your needs?

Choose by workload first, then compare the exact processor, GPU, screen, memory and battery test. The five picks below cover distinct jobs rather than pretending one laptop is ideal for everyone. Laptop Mag’s source list is a 2025 test-based roundup and includes an Early 2024 gaming model, while Tom’s Guide separately reviewed a 2026 entry-level model. Prices, stock and even the components sold under a family name can change by country and retailer.

  • On-the-Go Convenience: With an integrated handle and lightweight design (2.8 lbs), our lap desk is portable for travel or moving around the house, offering flexibility in any space.

The tested configuration combines a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with integrated Radeon 890M graphics, 32GB of memory and a 1TB drive. Its 16-inch 2,880 × 1,800 OLED touchscreen runs at 120Hz, and the listed weight is 3.3 pounds. Those specifications make it suitable for office work, programming, photo work, media consumption and light graphics workloads without the weight, fan noise and power draw normally associated with a discrete gaming GPU.

Laptop Mag recorded 11 hours in its battery test. That is a result for the publication’s specific configuration and test method, not a guarantee for every UM5606 sold. Screen brightness, browser tabs, wireless use and background software can materially change runtime.

The trade-offs matter in daily use. The review calls the keyboard and touchpad mediocre and criticizes the SSD’s speed. If you write for hours, use precise gesture control or move large files often, try to verify those aspects rather than assuming a premium chassis is perfect. Reviewer Rami Tabari summarized the appeal as: “The Asus Zenbook S16 UM5606 has the makings of a great laptop, from its incredible performance and graphics to its long battery life and stellar design.”

Is the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED a good budget Ryzen laptop?

It is a strong value candidate when an OLED screen and low price matter more than having the newest processor generation or a discrete GPU. Laptop Mag’s 2025 quick list places the Zenbook 14 OLED in its budget category, describing a tested or listed configuration as sub-$1,000 with an OLED display and an 11-hour battery result.

Do not buy from the family name alone. “Zenbook 14 OLED” has been used across several generations and regional configurations, so a listing may have a different Ryzen chip, memory capacity, storage drive, panel resolution or refresh rate than the unit reviewed. Confirm the complete model code and processor generation before paying.

For documents, web applications, coding, video calls and streaming, integrated Radeon graphics are generally the practical choice because they keep the machine lighter and simpler. For modern games, 3D rendering or GPU-accelerated effects, move to a model with a named discrete GPU instead of expecting an OLED panel to imply gaming performance.

Should you buy the Razer Blade 14 for Ryzen gaming?

Buy it when compact size and high gaming performance justify a premium price, heat and shorter unplugged endurance. The roundup’s Early 2024 configuration pairs a Ryzen 9 8945HS with a discrete GeForce RTX 4070, 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Its 14-inch 2,560 × 1,600 IPS panel runs at 240Hz, a specification aimed at fast games and high frame rates.

Laptop Mag reports strong benchmark and graphics results and a 13,781 Geekbench 6 multi-core score for that review configuration. The score belongs to that exact machine and test version; it should not be treated as a universal result for every Ryzen 9 8945HS laptop.

The review lists a $2,199 starting price and a $2,699 price for the tested configuration. Both are dated review-context figures, so check the current regional listing. Heat is another practical consideration: a thin chassis with a powerful RTX 4070 can become loud or hot under sustained loads, and performance may depend on using the supplied power adapter.

Battery reporting on the roundup page is internally inconsistent: one passage says 6 hours 23 minutes and another says 6 hours 26 minutes. The sensible conclusion is that endurance is roughly six and a quarter hours in that publication’s test, not that either minute-level figure is a universal promise. The review also explicitly says battery life is weaker than on the TUF A14.

Is the ASUS TUF Gaming A14 the better budget gaming choice?

For many mobile gamers, yes. Laptop Mag selects the TUF Gaming A14 as its budget Ryzen gaming laptop and records more than 10 hours in its web-surfing battery test, giving it a mobility advantage over the premium Razer configuration.

The lower-cost positioning does not mean every TUF A14 has the same gaming hardware. Confirm the model year, Ryzen processor and exact discrete GPU in the listing; those components determine frame rates far more than the “Ryzen” badge. Also check the display’s resolution and refresh rate, memory layout, storage capacity and whether the retailer is selling a regional variant.

The TUF is the sensible direction when you want to play games, travel with the laptop and keep spending below flagship levels. It is less suitable if you need the thinnest premium materials, a color-critical creator display or the highest possible GPU tier in a 14-inch chassis.

Should creators choose the ASUS ProArt P16 or a convertible?

Choose the ProArt P16 for GPU-intensive work; choose a convertible only when pen input and flexible modes are more important than maximum graphics acceleration. Laptop Mag names the ProArt P16 its video-editing pick and says the Ryzen platform is paired with a discrete GeForce RTX 4070. That combination is the clearest fit in this source set for timelines, effects and other applications that can use Nvidia GPU acceleration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The cited material does not establish one complete ProArt P16 configuration’s memory, storage, screen, weight, battery or price. Verify those fields against the exact regional model and the requirements of your editing, 3D or photography software. A discrete GPU also increases heat, fan noise and power consumption compared with an integrated-graphics ultrabook.

The other option is the HP Envy x360 2-in-1. Laptop Mag identifies it as its convertible pick and highlights an OLED display and flexible form factor, but cautions that its hardware is older. If you want the newest processor generation, the roundup points readers toward newer Ryzen AI 300 laptops instead. The Envy makes sense for note-taking, presentations, tablet-style use and occasional creative work; it is not the first choice for sustained GPU rendering.

What does the ASUS Vivobook 14 (2026) add to the shortlist?

The Vivobook 14 is a current everyday alternative, not a replacement for the five 2025 categories. Tom’s Guide reviewed it on January 22, 2026 with a Ryzen AI 7 445, 16GB of RAM (configurations can reach 32GB), 1TB of storage, a 14-inch 1,920 × 1,200 IPS display and a 42Wh battery.

The review describes comfortable typing and good basic productivity performance. It also calls the display dull and the graphics modest, so it is best for office work, browsing, study and video calls rather than demanding games or color-sensitive creation. Tom’s Guide listed pricing from $699 and UK pricing at £749 at the time of writing; those are dated snapshots, not current offers.

Its importance is timing: a 2026 Ryzen AI 400-series example may be newer than models in a 2025 roundup, but newer does not automatically mean better for your workload. A Zenbook with a brighter OLED panel, a TUF with a discrete GPU or a ProArt with RTX graphics may still be the better purchase.

What are the Ryzen processor families, and why does the name matter?

AMD’s current laptop processor page lists Ryzen AI 400, Ryzen AI 300, Ryzen 400, Ryzen 200, Ryzen 9000, Ryzen 8000 and Ryzen 7000 families. The family label indicates a generation and feature tier, but it does not describe the laptop’s cooling, memory, screen or graphics configuration.

AMD’s AI PC partner portfolio includes manufacturers such as ASUS, Acer, HP, Lenovo, MSI and Razer, while noting that availability varies by market and that the list is not exhaustive. Use that information to understand the breadth of the platform, not as independent evidence that any particular laptop is the best.

AMD also publishes its own benchmark and efficiency figures with footnotes describing test systems and methods. Treat those as AMD-reported processor claims. An independent laptop result, such as Laptop Mag’s battery or Geekbench measurement, includes the complete laptop and its firmware, display and power settings, but still applies only to the tested configuration.

What specs do you need for a good AMD Ryzen laptop?

There is no single minimum specification. Match the parts to the applications you actually run, and prioritize the discrete GPU for gaming or GPU-accelerated creation.

Workload Processor guidance Graphics guidance Memory and storage priorities Display and mobility priorities
Web, office, study and streaming Recent Ryzen 5 or Ryzen AI 5-class chip is usually a sensible starting point; verify the exact model. Integrated Radeon graphics are sufficient for everyday software. 16GB RAM is a practical target; 512GB or more storage avoids constant cleanup. Favor keyboard quality, battery testing, weight and a comfortable brightness level.
Programming and multitasking Choose more cores if you compile, run containers or use virtual machines. Integrated graphics are fine unless your tools use GPU compute. 16GB is a floor for heavier multitasking; 32GB helps large projects. Check whether memory is upgradeable. Resolution, ports and sustained cooling can matter more than peak benchmark scores.
Modern gaming A recent Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 can feed a fast GPU, but avoid ranking by CPU label alone. Prefer a named discrete GPU; the RTX 4070 configurations in the Razer and ProArt examples illustrate the relevant class. 32GB is useful for demanding games and background apps; a 1TB drive gives more room for large installs. Check refresh rate, response behavior, charger size and fan noise.
Video editing, 3D and effects Use a higher-core Ryzen configuration suited to your application. Confirm whether your software benefits from Nvidia GPU acceleration; the ProArt P16 is the source set’s clearest example. Prioritize enough RAM for source footage and a fast, roomy SSD; exact upgrade options vary. Check color coverage, panel calibration, ports and sustained-performance reviews.

How should you verify a Ryzen laptop listing before buying?

Retail listings frequently shorten names or combine photographs from different generations. Use this checklist to make sure the machine you receive is the one you evaluated.

  1. Copy the complete model code. “Zenbook 14 OLED” or “TUF Gaming A14” is not enough to identify a processor, screen or GPU.
  2. Confirm the processor generation and suffix. Record the full Ryzen or Ryzen AI model, not just Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9.
  3. Identify the graphics processor. It should say integrated Radeon or provide the exact discrete GPU model. For gaming and creative work, this is a decisive specification.
  4. Check memory capacity and layout. Confirm 16GB or 32GB, whether it is soldered, and whether the manufacturer or retailer states an upgrade path.
  5. Check storage and replacement options. Capacity, SSD type and the number of slots affect both speed and future expansion.
  6. Read the panel details. Verify OLED or IPS, resolution, refresh rate, brightness information and touch support rather than relying on a product photo.
  7. Match the charger and ports to your use. A powerful gaming laptop may need its large adapter for full performance; creators should check display outputs, card readers and high-speed USB or USB-C ports.
  8. Validate region, warranty and keyboard layout. Prices, stock, support and even panel choices can differ between the United States, the United Kingdom and other markets.
  9. Compare independent testing for the exact configuration. A result from one Zenbook, Razer or TUF variant does not automatically apply to another with a different screen or GPU.

How do battery tests and performance numbers translate to real use?

Published figures are useful for comparing machines tested by the same outlet, but they are not guarantees. Laptop Mag’s 11-hour Zenbook S 16 result, more-than-10-hour TUF A14 web-surfing result and roughly six-and-a-quarter-hour Razer result were produced under that publication’s conditions. Gaming, video export, a bright OLED panel and high-performance power modes can reduce runtime sharply.

The same caution applies to the Razer’s 13,781 Geekbench 6 multi-core score. It describes the review configuration, not every laptop using the Ryzen 9 8945HS. Compare like with like: same benchmark version, power mode, memory configuration and cooling behavior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • For travel: look for an independent browsing or video test, then leave margin for your own brightness and workload.
  • For gaming: seek game-specific frame-rate tests at the panel’s native resolution and consider whether the result requires an attached charger.
  • For creation: look for sustained export or render tests, not only short burst benchmarks.
  • For quiet work: read fan-noise and surface-temperature observations; a faster chip can be less pleasant if the cooling system runs aggressively.

Which trade-offs should you expect from each category?

Priority Best direction Trade-off to accept
Longest practical unplugged work time Integrated-graphics ultrabook such as the Zenbook S 16 or Zenbook 14 OLED Less graphics headroom than a discrete-GPU laptop
High frame rates in demanding games Razer Blade 14 or another laptop with a comparable discrete GPU Higher price, heat, fan noise and shorter battery life
Lower-cost gaming mobility TUF Gaming A14 More variation between configurations; premium materials and display features may be reduced
GPU-accelerated editing ProArt P16 with discrete RTX graphics More weight, power draw and cost than an integrated-graphics laptop
Pen use and tablet-style flexibility Envy x360 2-in-1 Older hardware in the cited roundup and less suitability for sustained GPU work
Basic productivity at a current entry price Vivobook 14 (2026) Modest graphics and a display described as dull by Tom’s Guide

What are the most common Ryzen laptop buying mistakes?

  • Assuming Ryzen 7 automatically beats every Ryzen 5. Generation, power limit, cooling and GPU can outweigh the tier number.
  • Ignoring the GPU. Gaming and many creative applications respond more directly to the discrete GPU than to a small CPU-tier difference.
  • Comparing a family name instead of a model code. Zenbook 14 OLED, TUF Gaming A14 and Vivobook 14 names cover multiple configurations.
  • Treating a dated price as a current deal. The Razer’s $2,199 starting and $2,699 tested prices, the Zenbook’s sub-$1,000 budget description and the Vivobook’s $699/£749 figures are snapshots tied to their review dates and regions.
  • Using a battery headline as a guarantee. The Razer page’s 6:23 and 6:26 passages demonstrate why a single minute-level number can create false precision.
  • Buying a premium display without checking ergonomics. The Zenbook S 16 review specifically flags its keyboard and touchpad, showing why panel quality is only one part of laptop usability.
  • Forgetting software compatibility. Confirm that your editing, engineering, virtualization or game software supports the graphics API and drivers provided for the chosen configuration.

How should you choose among these five picks?

Start with the application that would be most expensive or frustrating to underspecify. If that is gaming or GPU-accelerated creation, select the discrete-GPU class first and then compare screen, thermals and price. If it is travel, writing or general productivity, the Zenbook S 16’s tested balance is more relevant than a gaming benchmark. If budget is the hard limit, compare the exact Zenbook 14 OLED or TUF A14 configuration rather than relying on the category label. If you want a newer basic machine, evaluate the 2026 Vivobook 14 on its modest graphics and display rather than assuming its newer processor makes it the universal winner.

Finally, recheck local inventory, model year, memory, storage, display, GPU, warranty and return terms immediately before ordering. Laptop Mag’s shortlist is useful evidence, but it is not a timeless ranking, and AMD itself notes that partner-product availability varies by market.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Ryzen AI laptops always better than Ryzen 7000 or Ryzen 8000 models?

No. Ryzen AI identifies newer platform families and AI features, but the best choice still depends on the complete laptop. A model with a discrete GPU, better cooling or a more suitable screen can be preferable to a newer integrated-graphics design for gaming or creative work.

Can I upgrade the RAM or SSD in these laptops later?

The cited reviews do not establish upgradeability for every model, and laptop designs vary by exact configuration. Check the manufacturer service documentation or a teardown for the full model code before assuming memory or storage can be replaced.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is integrated Radeon graphics enough for gaming?

It can handle casual games and lighter settings, but the source examples reserve demanding gaming recommendations for laptops with discrete GPUs. If a listing does not name a discrete GPU, treat it as an everyday or light-gaming machine unless independent tests show otherwise.

How often should I recheck a 2025 Ryzen laptop recommendation?

Recheck when the model year, processor generation or retailer configuration changes, and whenever a newer independent review appears. The 2026 Vivobook 14 illustrates why a current model may deserve separate consideration without automatically displacing a better-configured older laptop.
