Every paid Nintendo Switch Online membership includes Nintendo Music. You can use the service with the standard Individual plan, standard Family plan, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Individual, or Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Family. You do not need Expansion Pack just to listen.
For one Nintendo Account, the standard Individual membership is the least expensive annual option in the United States. A Family membership is the better fit when several accounts belong to the same Nintendo Account family group. Expansion Pack only makes sense if you also want its larger classic-game libraries, selected downloadable content (DLC), and upgrade packs. Nintendo Music is delivered through a smart-device app, requires a Nintendo Account and an eligible membership, and is available only in countries Nintendo lists as supported.

Which Nintendo Switch Online plans include Nintendo Music?
All four paid Nintendo Switch Online tiers include access: the two standard plans and the two Expansion Pack plans. The deciding factors are how many Nintendo Accounts need coverage and whether you want Expansion Pack’s separate gaming benefits.
| Membership | Nintendo Music | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch Online Individual | Included | One Nintendo Account at the lowest annual US price shown |
| Nintendo Switch Online Family | Included | Several accounts in one Nintendo Account family group |
| Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Individual | Included | One account that also wants Expansion Pack game and DLC benefits |
| Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Family | Included | A family group that also wants Expansion Pack benefits |
Nintendo’s support information states that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use Nintendo Music and describes the app as an exclusive service for Nintendo Switch Online members. There is no separate “Nintendo Music” membership tier in the plan lineup.

Do I need Expansion Pack for Nintendo Music?
No. The standard Individual or standard Family plan is sufficient. Expansion Pack is an optional upgrade whose value comes from additional game libraries, selected DLC, and upgrade packs—not from unlocking a higher level of Nintendo Music access.
What Expansion Pack changes
Moving to either Expansion Pack tier adds the benefits associated with that tier to the same Nintendo Switch Online account arrangement. An Individual Expansion Pack plan still covers one account; a Family Expansion Pack plan covers members of a Nintendo Account family group. Nintendo Music remains included in both cases, but the available data does not establish any exclusive Music catalog, audio feature, or listening benefit tied specifically to Expansion Pack.
When the upgrade is justified
Choose Expansion Pack when you would independently use its larger collections of classic games, included DLC, or upgrade packs. Buying it solely for Nintendo Music would pay for benefits you do not need, because the standard plans already satisfy the Music requirement.
What is the cheapest Switch Online membership with Nintendo Music?
For a single account in the United States, the standard Nintendo Switch Online Individual plan is the lowest annual price shown on Nintendo’s current page: $19.99 per year. Nintendo notes that prices vary by country, so this figure is not a worldwide price and should be checked against the store for your account’s region.
| Plan | US price shown by Nintendo | Price context |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Individual | $19.99 per year | Current US annual price; country pricing varies |
| Standard Family | $34.99 per year | Current US annual price; covers a Nintendo Account family group |
| Expansion Pack Individual | $49.99 per year | Current US annual price; includes Expansion Pack benefits |
| Expansion Pack Family | $79.99 per year | Current US annual price; family-group coverage plus Expansion Pack benefits |
These are annual prices displayed on Nintendo’s page as accessed in 2026. Nintendo can change prices, and the amount presented at checkout may differ by country, currency, tax treatment, or local storefront. Treat the table as a US reference rather than a universal rate card.

Does the Nintendo Switch Online Family plan include Nintendo Music?
Yes. Every member covered by a Nintendo Switch Online Family membership can meet the membership requirement for Nintendo Music through their own Nintendo Account, provided the account is part of the Nintendo Account family group covered by that subscription.
How family coverage works
The Family plan is organized around Nintendo Account family groups rather than a single shared login. The account that purchases the membership and the other accounts included in its family group receive the plan’s Nintendo Switch Online eligibility. Each person should use their own Nintendo Account when signing in to the smart-device app.
When Individual is still the better choice
If only one Nintendo Account will use Nintendo Music and the other Nintendo Switch Online features, Individual avoids paying for unused family-group capacity. If two or more accounts already belong to the same family group, compare the family price with the total of separate Individual memberships and consider whether you also need Expansion Pack benefits.
What do I need before using Nintendo Music?
Nintendo Music is a smart-device app, not a feature that is unlocked by owning a Switch console alone. Access depends on three requirements: a Nintendo Account, an eligible paid Nintendo Switch Online membership, and a location where Nintendo has released the service.
- Nintendo Account: Sign in with the account associated with your Nintendo Switch Online eligibility.
- Eligible membership: Standard Individual, standard Family, Expansion Pack Individual, and Expansion Pack Family all qualify.
- Supported country or region: Nintendo publishes a region list because Music availability is country-specific.
- Compatible smart device: Nintendo presents Music as an app for smart devices; the console, a phone, or headphones by themselves do not provide the membership entitlement.
Nintendo’s support page titled “In which regions is Nintendo Music available?” is the authoritative place to check whether the service is offered where your Nintendo Account is based. Availability can expand or change, so check that list before buying a membership specifically for Music.

How should I choose between the four memberships?
Use the following sequence to avoid paying for an unnecessary upgrade.
- Count the accounts. If one Nintendo Account needs coverage, start with Individual. If multiple accounts in a Nintendo Account family group need coverage, evaluate Family.
- Separate Music from game benefits. Do not select Expansion Pack for Music; select it only when its classic-game libraries, selected DLC, or upgrade packs matter to you.
- Check the storefront country. Review Nintendo’s current price and supported-region information for the country attached to your Nintendo Account.
- Confirm app eligibility. Make sure the smart-device app is offered in your region and that you can sign in with the account covered by the membership.
- Compare the annual total. For a US account using one profile, the standard Individual plan is $19.99 annually on Nintendo’s 2026 page. For a family group, compare the $34.99 standard Family price with the number of separate memberships you would otherwise buy.
This approach keeps the Music decision simple: first solve account coverage, then decide whether the additional game content justifies Expansion Pack.
What benefits does Expansion Pack add besides Nintendo Music?
Expansion Pack is a bundle of Nintendo Switch Online benefits layered onto the membership. Nintendo describes the upgrade in terms of broader classic-game libraries, selected DLC, and upgrade packs. Those additions are relevant to people who play the included games or own the associated titles; they are not prerequisites for the Music app.
Individual Expansion Pack
The Individual version combines one-account coverage with Expansion Pack benefits. It is the appropriate tier when one Nintendo Account needs Nintendo Music and the account holder also wants the additional game content.

Nintendo’s published plan information does not establish a separate Music catalog, better sound quality, or extra app functions for either Expansion Pack tier. Any decision to upgrade should therefore be based on the gaming benefits.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What if Nintendo Music is not available in my country?
A paid membership does not override Nintendo’s regional availability rules. Nintendo Music is currently listed only for the countries and regions on Nintendo’s published support list, and the service may not appear or function for an account outside those locations.
Check before purchasing
- Open Nintendo’s support information for “In which regions is Nintendo Music available?”
- Compare the list with the country or region assigned to your Nintendo Account and the storefront where you would purchase the membership.
- If your country is not listed, do not assume that buying Expansion Pack, changing devices, or owning a Switch console will add access.
Because Nintendo controls both account eligibility and service distribution, using a different phone or audio accessory cannot substitute for regional support. Wait for an official availability update rather than treating an unsupported region as a guaranteed purchase.
Which common purchase mistakes should I avoid?
- Buying Expansion Pack only for Music: Standard Individual and Family already include the service.
- Confusing hardware with access: A Switch console, phone, or headphones may be needed to use the app, but none is the membership that unlocks it.
- Assuming Family means one shared login: Family coverage is tied to Nintendo Account family-group members, who should sign in with their own accounts.
- Applying US prices globally: Nintendo explicitly says prices vary by country; check the local storefront before checkout.
- Ignoring regional availability: Confirm that Nintendo Music is listed for your country before paying for a membership because access is country-specific.
- Relying on an unverified membership code listing: If you purchase a code from a retailer, verify its region and redemption conditions with the seller and Nintendo before payment. Inventory and redemption terms can change.
How do prices and plan benefits change over time?
Membership pricing, supported countries, and included benefits are changeable service details. The US amounts in the table reflect Nintendo’s current page as accessed in 2026, not a promise that the same prices will remain in force for the entire life of a subscription.
Before renewing or switching tiers, review Nintendo’s plan page and the regional Music support page for your account’s country. Pay particular attention to whether a displayed amount is annual, which accounts are covered, and whether the Expansion Pack benefits are still relevant to your use. This check is especially important when a family member moves to a different Nintendo Account family group or when Nintendo adds Music to a new market.
Best Value
Does owning a Nintendo Switch console change the membership requirement?
No. Console ownership and Nintendo Music eligibility are separate questions. The service is presented as a smart-device app for Nintendo Switch Online members, so the account and membership determine access; the console itself does not replace the paid plan.
If your goal is only Nintendo Music, begin with the least expensive eligible membership for the number of accounts involved. Add Expansion Pack only when its separate game and DLC benefits are part of your plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Nintendo Music a separate subscription from Nintendo Switch Online?
Nintendo presents Music as an exclusive service for Nintendo Switch Online members rather than as a separately listed membership tier. You still install and use the smart-device app, but eligibility follows the Nintendo Account and paid membership you already hold.
Will Expansion Pack provide a larger Nintendo Music catalog or better audio?
Nintendo’s plan descriptions associate Expansion Pack with extra classic-game libraries, selected DLC, and upgrade packs. They do not establish a larger Music catalog or enhanced audio for Expansion Pack subscribers, so no Music-specific upgrade should be assumed.
What happens to Nintendo Music access when my membership ends?
Nintendo states that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use Music. On that basis, access should not be expected after the eligible membership expires unless you renew or become covered by another qualifying membership.
Where can I verify whether Nintendo Music works in my country?
Use Nintendo’s support information titled “In which regions is Nintendo Music available?” and compare its list with the country assigned to your Nintendo Account. Availability is regional and can change, so check the list before purchasing for this purpose.
