For a physics brawl you can play now, choose Gang Beasts: it has verified local split-screen and online play, plus a separate mode where friends fight together against Beef City gangs. Party Animals is another animal-themed party-fighting option, but its local-play details are not confirmed here. If by “co-op” you mean working together on jobs rather than fighting each other, RATATA is the closest match—but it is unreleased, with no announced date or price, and should be wishlisted rather than bought.

These games do not offer the same kind of multiplayer. Gang Beasts and Party Animals belong in the party-fighting comparison set; RATATA is an announced physics-driven co-op game about completing jobs. The right pick depends on whether your group wants to compete in a brawl, cooperate against a game world, or simply play something already available.
Choose Gang Beasts for a brawl with friends
Gang Beasts is the clearest fit if “physics brawler” means floppy, comic characters scrapping in hazardous arenas. Its Steam page describes gelatinous characters, slapstick fights, and dangerous environments in Beef City. It is primarily a PvP party brawler, but its gang mode gives friends a cooperative objective: fight the gangs of Beef City together.

Choose Party Animals for another animal-themed fighter
Party Animals shares Party, Fighting, 3D Fighter, and Party Game tags with the kind of multiplayer experience people seek when they look for games like Gang Beasts. That makes it a plausible alternative if the group wants an animal-themed party fighter. The available evidence here does not establish its exact player limit or whether local split-screen is supported, so check the current store listing for those details before planning a couch session.
Wishlist RATATA for cooperative jobs, not PvP
RATATA’s announced design revolves around a crew taking on heists, deliveries, and other jobs, with physics complicating the work. Its Steam listing says players can go online with up to four friends or play solo. It is not described as a melee fighter, and it is not yet available to play.

Which game is best for four-player physics co-op?
For a group that wants to cooperate rather than fight one another, RATATA is the most direct design match—but only after it releases. For something available now, Gang Beasts has a gang mode in which friends fight together against computer-controlled gangs; its broader identity remains a party brawler, not a dedicated co-op campaign.
The distinction matters when you are choosing a game for a group that dislikes friendly-fire chaos. In Gang Beasts’ melee mode, the central activity is fighting other players or local and online enemies. Its gang mode provides a team-against-the-world variation, but the Steam description does not present it as a sequence of cooperative jobs like RATATA’s announced contracts. Party Animals is categorized as a fighting and party game in the sources available for this comparison; its precise cooperative modes and player count are not established here.
RATATA’s official Steam copy gives the clearest count: one to four players, online co-op or solo. It also describes choosing a crew, collecting and loading a target, avoiding capture, and delivering it. The announced loop sounds more like a cooperative task game than a conventional arena fighter, but no one should treat a pitch as a verified account of how the finished game plays. It has not shipped, and there are no reviews or hands-on impressions to evaluate.
Can you play Gang Beasts locally on one PC?
Yes. Gang Beasts lists shared/split-screen play on Steam, as well as Remote Play Together. That makes it the best-supported couch option among these three based on the available feature listings.

Gang Beasts’ Steam features include Shared/Split Screen PvP, Shared/Split Screen, Remote Play on Phone, Tablet, or TV, and Remote Play Together. Its store description says players can customize characters and fight local or online enemies in melee mode, or fight alongside friends against Beef City gangs in gang mode. For a one-PC session, the split-screen listing is the relevant feature; Remote Play Together is a separate way to invite friends into a supported session remotely.
The listing confirms shared/split-screen support but does not give a single maximum-player figure in the “About This Game” description used here. If your group size is a deciding factor, confirm the current player and controller details on the game’s store page before organizing. Extra controllers may make a couch session possible, but the listing does not specify a required controller model or a precise setup procedure.
What is known about local play in the other two?
RATATA’s Steam feature list includes Single-player and Co-op, but does not list Shared/Split Screen. Its official copy specifies online co-op for up to four friends or solo play; that is not evidence of local couch co-op. Do not buy or plan around it as a split-screen game unless the developer later confirms that feature.
For Party Animals, the sources used here are aggregators rather than an official store page with a verified mode list. They place it in a similar party-fighting category, but that does not settle whether it supports local play, online play, or both. Verify the current platform-specific listing if couch play is essential.
What is RATATA, and when can you play it?
RATATA is an upcoming PC game from The Kingsdom, announced on October 27, 2026. Its Steam page says “Coming soon,” and no release date or price had been announced in the sources checked on October 29, 2026.
The premise is a crew in debt to a toad Mafia Boss who gives vague assignments. The official pitch asks players to pick a crew, grab the requested item, load it, avoid getting caught, and deliver it—while trying not to break the cargo, the truck, or their friends. The humor comes from both the jobs and the group’s efforts to figure out what “the thing” is and who should drive.

How the announced job loop works
- Choose a crew: The Kingsdom says animals differ in size, strength, speed, abilities, and whether they have a driver’s license. A character that suits one job may be a poor fit for another.
- Prepare for the assignment: The announcement describes recruiting members, buying larger vehicles, dressing the crew in an ’80s style, and building or upgrading a garage hideout.
- Handle the obstacles: Jobs may involve sneaking past guards, dodging traps, and outrunning “crazy granny squirrels.” The announced tasks include stealing, moving, and delivering items.
- Manage the proceeds: The pitch says most payday money goes to the Boss, with the remainder going toward the crew, vehicles, and hideout. The debt shrinks slowly.
These are features in the announcement and store description, not a played assessment of their depth, balance, or quality. Press coverage has compared the cooperative task structure to Overcooked and Moving Out, and described RATATA as combining elements associated with Gang Beasts and open-world heists. Those are press comparisons; they do not make RATATA a released brawler or establish how its final missions will work.
What is confirmed—and what is still open
The confirmed platform in the sources is PC via Steam. The Steam listing specifies online co-op for up to four friends or solo play, and its feature list includes controller support, achievements, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing. It does not list shared/split-screen play. The release date and price remain unannounced, while console versions are not confirmed in the sources available for this comparison.

How do Gang Beasts and Party Animals compare?
Both sit in the party-fighting shopping set, but the strength of the available evidence differs. Gang Beasts has a direct Steam listing with modes and platform details; the comparison data for Party Animals comes from aggregators, which limits what can be said about its multiplayer setup.

Gang Beasts’ Steam listing dates its release to December 12, 2017. It also cites the SXSW Gamer’s Voice Multiplayer Award winner for 2016 and the EGX Indie Game of the Show winner for 2015; the Steam Award for “Better With Friends” in 2016 is listed as a nomination, not a win. Those historical notes can add context, but do not answer whether your friends will prefer its current brawls.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which one should you choose?
Use the type of session you want as the deciding factor. The strongest fit for an available, well-documented couch brawler is Gang Beasts; Party Animals is the alternative if its animal-fighter premise appeals and you confirm its multiplayer setup; RATATA is the one to watch if your group wants to cooperate on jobs rather than compete in a fight.
Pick Gang Beasts if…
- You want a physics party brawler you can buy and play now.
- Your group wants local split-screen on one PC, or to use Steam Remote Play Together.
- You like the option of fighting each other in melee mode or teaming up against Beef City gangs.
- You want a game with a long Steam review history. In 2026, Steam classified it Very Positive; its English-language and overall review totals are separate figures and should not be conflated.
Steam listed Gang Beasts at $19.99 in October 2026. Its Steam page lists Windows, macOS, and SteamOS + Linux. Although the minimum Windows requirements on the listing include Windows 7, Steam notes that its client itself requires Windows 10 or later from January 1, 2024; the historical game requirement should not be mistaken for a promise that the current Steam client will run on Windows 7.
Pick Party Animals if…
- You want an animal-themed fighter or party game that is already sold on Steam.
- You are comfortable checking the current store page for the specific local/online modes and player limit your group needs.
- You prefer to weigh critic aggregates as well as user feedback, while recognizing that the reported scores are relayed through GG.deals and review counts differ between aggregators.
SteamRecs listed Party Animals at $19.99 in October 2026. The available comparison material does not verify its full platform list or couch-play features, so do not infer a mode from tags like Multiplayer or Party alone.
Wishlist RATATA if…
- Your group wants cooperative PvE-style tasks—jobs, deliveries, crew choices, and vehicle mishaps—rather than a player-versus-player fight.
- You are willing to wait for an announced date, price, and more details about local play.
- You want to follow a PC Steam release from The Kingsdom and understand that the game has not yet been reviewed or released.
The Steam listing is the appropriate place to wishlist RATATA, not to buy it: it was marked Coming soon and not yet available when checked in October 2026. The studio announced the game on October 27, 2026; IGN published the exclusive announcement trailer and reported that no release date had been set.
Is RATATA the same game as Ratatan?
No. RATATA, The Kingsdom’s announced cooperative heist game, is unrelated to Ratatan, the Patapon spiritual successor from Ratata Arts that had released shortly before RATATA’s announcement.

How was this comparison selected?
The comparison separates the games by session type, availability, and evidence for local play rather than treating every physics-based multiplayer game as the same genre. Gang Beasts is included as the released brawler with a Steam-confirmed split-screen listing; Party Animals is included because SteamRecs groups it with Gang Beasts through party-fighting tags and similarity; RATATA is included because its announcement prompted the comparison, while its cooperative-job premise makes it a different kind of game.
Where a feature was not established—especially Party Animals’ local modes and player count, RATATA’s local split-screen, and console availability for either released title—it is left unconfirmed rather than filled in by inference. Store prices and review figures are time-sensitive snapshots checked in October 2026, not permanent guarantees.

Can RATATA be played solo?
Yes. The Steam description says players can go solo if nobody joins, but it does not establish whether solo play includes AI-controlled teammates. Treat claims about AI companions as unverified.
Will RATATA come to consoles?
No console edition is confirmed in the available announcements and store information. The confirmed platform is PC via Steam.
Does Gang Beasts work on macOS or Linux?
Its Steam listing includes macOS and SteamOS + Linux as well as Windows. Check the current listing for compatibility details on a particular operating-system version or device.
Is Party Animals better reviewed than Gang Beasts?
The figures in this comparison are not directly interchangeable: the Party Animals critic aggregates are relayed through GG.deals, while Gang Beasts’ quoted user-review percentages come from Steam. Scores, review pools, and dates differ, so use the mode and platform details that matter to your group alongside ratings.
