FINAL FANTASY 40th Anniversary: THE CRYSTAL EDITION is the CD; THE CRYSTAL VINYL EDITION is the two-LP counterpart. Square Enix announced both for January 6, 2027, with the same planned 16-song selection: one song from each numbered mainline game, Final Fantasy I through XVI. The choice is about format, playback setup, and Japanese list price—not different songs. These are announced products, not albums that are already available.

Square Enix’s Japanese list prices were checked in October 2026. They are not confirmed delivered prices for buyers in the United States or other regions; shipping, taxes, and local pricing may differ. The announced specifications and regional purchase links are on Square Enix’s official album page.

The listed price gap is ¥4,840 before any regional charges. That comparison is useful for choosing between the announced Japanese editions, but it should not be read as a US price estimate or a guarantee that either product will ship to a particular address for that amount. Check the retailer’s current product page for currency, shipping, taxes, payment terms, and delivery estimates.
What is the Final Fantasy Crystal Edition album?
It is a 40th-anniversary anthology rather than a complete soundtrack collection. Square Enix selected 16 songs—one associated with each numbered mainline game from Final Fantasy I through XVI—so each game has a place in the sequence, but the album does not contain every track from those games.

The title can cause ordering confusion because “THE CRYSTAL EDITION” is the CD’s full edition name, while the vinyl product is specifically called “THE CRYSTAL VINYL EDITION.” Check the full name, format, or catalog number before placing an order. The CD’s JAN is 4988601473026; the vinyl’s JAN is 4988601473019.
The announced program is selective: it moves from the first game’s “Main Theme” to Final Fantasy XVI’s “Away,” passing through familiar themes, field music, and battle music along the way. The official song names and game mappings—not a listening-based identification—are listed below.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSquare Enix describes the anniversary collection as a way to revisit the series through “16 of the best songs FINAL FANTASY has to offer.” That framing makes the set a cross-series sampler, not a promise to represent every fan’s personal favorites or every musical style in each individual game. The one-per-game approach also means the album gives equal sequence space to all sixteen numbered entries.
Which songs are included, and where do they fall on the vinyl?
Both editions have the same announced songs in the same overall order. The CD plays tracks 1–16 as one sequence; the LP edition divides that sequence across four sides, with six tracks on A, four on B, three on C, and three on D.
| CD track | Song | Game | Vinyl placement |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Main Theme | Final Fantasy I | Disc 1, side A |
| 2 | The Rebel Army | Final Fantasy II | Disc 1, side A |
| 3 | Eternal Wind | Final Fantasy III | Disc 1, side A |
| 4 | Theme of Love | Final Fantasy IV | Disc 1, side A |
| 5 | Battle at the Big Bridge | Final Fantasy V | Disc 1, side A |
| 6 | Searching for Friends | Final Fantasy VI | Disc 1, side A |
| 7 | One-Winged Angel | Final Fantasy VII | Disc 1, side B |
| 8 | Force Your Way | Final Fantasy VIII | Disc 1, side B |
| 9 | Not Alone | Final Fantasy IX | Disc 1, side B |
| 10 | Zanarkand | Final Fantasy X | Disc 1, side B |
| 11 | Ronfaure | Final Fantasy XI | Disc 2, side C |
| 12 | The Dalmasca Estersand | Final Fantasy XII | Disc 2, side C |
| 13 | Blinded By Light | Final Fantasy XIII | Disc 2, side C |
| 14 | Torn from the Heavens | Final Fantasy XIV | Disc 2, side D |
| 15 | Somnus (Instrumental Version) | Final Fantasy XV | Disc 2, side D |
| 16 | Away | Final Fantasy XVI | Disc 2, side D |
The sequence is identical across formats, but a record requires changing sides during playback. The official side allocation is useful if you want to know where a particular song falls without assuming the LP is a different or expanded program.
For a quick side-by-side lookup: the first six selections, covering I–VI, are on side A; VII–X are on side B; XI–XIII are on side C; and XIV–XVI are on side D. The CD numbering remains the overall track order even when the vinyl side changes. For example, “Ronfaure” is CD track 11 but starts the LP’s third side, side C.
Square Enix’s October 28, 2026 announcement characterizes the list as planned and says it may change. Treat the table as the announced selection, not an irrevocable final pressing list. If the precise program matters to your purchase, check the official album page again for an updated track list.
How should you choose between the CD and vinyl editions?
Choose by the format you can play and the physical edition you want to own. Square Enix’s announced selection does not give either format extra songs. Compare the playback setup, packaging format, side breaks, and price rather than expecting an expanded vinyl program.

Choose the CD if you want a single-disc edition
The CD is one disc in a digipak. At the announced Japanese list prices, it costs ¥3,960 including tax. It is the lower-priced option on the publisher’s Japanese list, and its catalog number is SQEX-11273. The listed JAN, another product identifier retailers may use, is 4988601473026.
A single disc presents the 16-song order as one continuous CD sequence, without the four side changes required by the LP set. It is the more straightforward match if your preferred playback equipment is a CD player or a compatible disc drive. Confirm the product format on the retailer page rather than relying on the abbreviated phrase “Crystal Edition.”
Choose the vinyl edition if you want the two-LP presentation
The vinyl release is two 12-inch LPs at 33⅓ rpm. Its announced Japanese list price is ¥8,800 including tax, and its catalog number is SQEX-11271-2. That is ¥4,840 more than the listed CD price in Japan; this arithmetic compares the announced list prices only, not regional delivered totals.
The four sides divide the same sequence into groups of six, four, three, and three tracks. That means listening requires turning or changing the record between sides; it does not mean the LP adds songs. The publisher’s checked specifications identify the size, speed, number of LPs, and track placement, but do not establish colored or transparent vinyl, alternate mixes, remastering, or other audio changes. Do not buy it on the assumption that any of those features are included.
Before ordering, make sure your playback equipment supports the format you select. The vinyl is not a bonus-track edition, and “Crystal Edition” by itself may not be enough to tell a retailer which product you mean. Use “THE CRYSTAL VINYL EDITION,” SQEX-11271-2, or JAN 4988601473019 when confirming that a listing is for the records.
When does the album come out, and where can you pre-order it?
Square Enix announced January 6, 2027, for both formats. As of October 30, 2026, that date is still in the future. Square Enix’s English album page lists regional Square Enix stores and CDJapan as purchase paths; its Japanese announcement also names Amazon.co.jp.

That does not establish a live product listing for every format, a guaranteed shipping date, or stock in the United States. The North American Square Enix link opened the store homepage rather than a confirmed product page, so check that a listing is for the exact edition before treating it as an available pre-order. Regional availability and shipping terms should be confirmed with the retailer at purchase time.
For an international order, distinguish the announced release date from the date a parcel might arrive. A listing’s release date is not a promise about dispatch, transit, customs processing, or delivery to your location. The Japanese list prices are tax-inclusive Japanese prices; the checked announcements do not establish a shipping-inclusive US total or a confirmed US product price. Check the order summary and retailer terms before paying.

The Japanese announcement describes a limited Amazon.co.jp mega-jacket bonus for buyers of either album format. The same proposed design applies to both, but the design had not yet been shown; check the individual Amazon.co.jp listing to confirm the bonus is included. This Japanese offer is not evidence of an Amazon US bonus or availability. Nor should a bonus be assumed simply because a product appears on Amazon.co.jp: the listing needs to specify that the order qualifies.
For the safest comparison, confirm the full edition name, format, catalog number, price currency, shipping destination, and any bonus language on the actual retailer page. The English Square Enix page names its regional stores and CDJapan as shopping paths, while the Japanese page also points to Amazon.co.jp. Those publisher-named paths are useful starting points, but product-specific listings and their terms are what determine current ordering details.

What has Square Enix confirmed—and what remains unsettled?
The publisher has announced the two physical formats, their specifications and prices in Japan, the release date, and the planned song sequence. Its October 28, 2026 announcement says the song selection may change, so the track list should be treated as planned rather than guaranteed final. Check Square Enix’s album page for updates before purchase.
The checked official album materials announce CD and vinyl. They do not establish an album-specific digital release, different mixes or remasters between formats, bonus tracks, or colored or transparent vinyl. Those details should not be assumed from the edition names or from the fact that a song appears on both formats.
For the CD, use the full name THE CRYSTAL EDITION and catalog number SQEX-11273; for vinyl, use THE CRYSTAL VINYL EDITION and SQEX-11271-2. Those identifiers help distinguish the products when a listing abbreviates the title. The JAN codes are also distinct: 4988601473026 for the CD and 4988601473019 for vinyl.
Availability is another detail to verify close to ordering. A publisher purchase link is not the same as confirmation that a product page is live in every territory, and a pre-order page for the CD does not prove a vinyl listing is live. The checked North American Square Enix link did not resolve to a specific album product page. Do not infer US stock, a guaranteed delivery date, or a local price from the Japanese announcement.
