For Enshrouded 1.0 on PC, the best approach is not a single “best” preset. Start with the game’s automatically selected graphics preset, keep your monitor’s intended resolution, and then adjust one control at a time while checking an open vista, a Shroud-heavy area, a fight, and (if you own one) a heavily lit base. On a supported NVIDIA card, a community configuration using DLSS Quality is a reasonable image-quality-first starting point, but it is an editorial starting hypothesis rather than a measured universal optimum. Version 1.0 changed lighting, distant terrain, atmosphere and point-light-shadow costs, so advice copied from early access can now trade away detail without delivering a proven gain.
This guide separates frame pacing from image quality and from combat comfort. It also covers the October 21, 2026 AMD V-Sync hotfix, shader compilation, published hardware requirements, Steam Deck status and cloud-play caveats.

The game released in version 1.0 on October 15, 2026. The official release notes describe substantial rendering and atmosphere changes, so these recommendations are for that release rather than an unchanged early-access build (Steam listing; Keen Games 1.0 changelog).
What should you change first in Enshrouded 1.0?
Use this order: confirm the game has finished shader compilation, start from the automatic preset, verify resolution and display mode, then test repeatable scenes before touching individual quality controls. A setting that looks expensive in a menu may have little effect in a forest but matter in a base full of lamps, while a fog option can change readability more than its frame-time cost.

1. Let post-update shader compilation finish
After installing the game or updating a graphics driver, allow the compilation process to complete before judging rough startup performance. Keen Games says the 1.0 process is faster but that “A small amount of compilation time is unavoidable, however.” This addresses one-time preparation, not sustained frame-rate performance (official 1.0 notes).
2. Record a repeatable route
Choose a short route you can repeat: look across an open vista, enter a fog-heavy Shroud area, trigger a normal fight, and walk through your busiest illuminated base. Observe perceived smoothness, image clarity, input response and camera comfort. Do not rely on a single number from another player; no official source in the available material provides a controlled per-setting FPS uplift.
3. Change one control at a time
Apply one setting, revisit the same scene and compare. If several controls change together, you cannot tell whether a distant-detail reduction, shadow change or upscaling mode solved the issue—or merely made the image softer.
Which graphics settings are a sensible starting point?
The following mix comes from a community-published “optimized settings” list and is best treated as a hypothesis to evaluate on your own hardware, not as a Keen Games preset or a lab result (community configuration).
Keep resolution native to your display
Retain the monitor’s intended display resolution first. If the scene is still short of your smoothness goal, check which upscaling or render-scale options your current menu actually provides. Do not assume a particular upscaler or frame-generation control exists on every GPU or driver combination.

Use DLSS Quality only where it is available
On a supported NVIDIA setup, DLSS Quality is an image-quality-first choice in the community list. It is not an instruction for AMD or Intel graphics, and the label may vary with the game’s current menu. Owners of other GPUs should evaluate the options their installation exposes rather than forcing a vendor-specific setting.

Community starting values
- Shadows: Quality.
- Contact Shadows: On.
- Point Light Shadows: Ultra Quality.
- Indirect Lighting: Balanced.
- SSAO: Balanced.
- Reflections: Balanced.
- Water: Quality.
- Fog: Balanced.
- Models, Distant Objects, Voxels, Tessellation and Voxel Detail Models: Quality.
- Small Foliage: Balanced.
Use those values as a starting comparison, not a promise that every option will carry the same name or produce the same result on your system. If a repeatable scene still feels uneven, reduce one visually costly control or try an available upscaling/render-scale option, then return to the same route.
How do Enshrouded’s new 1.0 lighting and distant-detail changes affect tuning?
Version 1.0 added brick rendering for more detailed distant terrain and buildings, biome-specific atmosphere, height fog, lighting changes and HDR calibration on compatible displays. Those features make distant readability and atmosphere part of the visual trade-off, not disposable extras (Keen Games release notes).
Do not automatically minimize distant objects
A blanket “lowest distant detail” rule may remove the brick-based definition that 1.0 was designed to provide. Lower distant objects or voxel detail only if your own repeated vista test shows a meaningful improvement and the loss of landmarks is acceptable.

Point-light shadows are no longer the old bottleneck
Keen Games says the 1.0 rework drastically reduced the performance impact of point-light shadows, particularly in bases with many lights. That makes Ultra Quality a reasonable value to test in a lit base instead of an automatic setting to disable. The studio also acknowledges that distant shadow flickering can remain at Performance graphics settings, so switching to the lowest preset may introduce a visible defect without guaranteeing a fix (official changelog).
Fog and Shroud settings are a readability decision
Fog changes affect how far you can read terrain, enemies and landmarks. Compare a Shroud-heavy route at the same time of day and weather state if possible. A slightly softer or denser image may feel less “smooth” even when frame pacing is unchanged, so record clarity separately from motion.
How should you test the settings in real play?
Use a short A/B procedure rather than chasing a universal preset.

- Return to a known baseline. Apply the automatic 1.0 preset, native display resolution and your normal fullscreen or window mode.
- Check an open vista. Pan slowly across distant terrain and buildings. Note hitching, distant-shadow flicker and whether landmarks remain legible.
- Enter a Shroud or fog-heavy area. Watch for uneven camera motion, crushed detail or excessive softness. Compare Fog and upscaling choices separately.
- Trigger a representative fight. Include camera turns, melee or ranged attacks and target changes. Judge whether input arrives consistently, not just whether the average image looks sharp.
- Visit a busy base. If your base has many lamps, test Point Light Shadows there. The 1.0 rework specifically changed this workload.
- Change one setting. Re-run the same route and keep the change only if it improves your stated goal without an unacceptable clarity or control cost.
- Stop when the goal is met. There is no benefit in lowering additional quality controls once the route is comfortable and readable.
This process produces a personal configuration, not a transferable benchmark. Different GPUs, CPUs, resolutions, drivers, world seeds and base builds can shift which scene is limiting.
What makes combat feel smoother besides higher FPS?
Combat comfort depends on target selection, aim assistance and camera behavior as well as rendered frames. Version 1.0 exposes separate automatic target-selection behavior for melee and ranged attacks. Controller players can configure aim snap assist and stick aim assist, while wand users can choose a free-aiming mode under Gameplay > Combat (Keen Games 1.0 notes).
Choose target selection for the attack you actually use
Set melee and ranged automatic targeting independently. A melee-focused character may benefit from a nearby-target preference, while a ranged player may need the option that avoids snapping to an unintended enemy. The right choice is the one that keeps the reticle and character facing predictable during your normal encounters.
Tune controller assistance deliberately
Aim snap assist and stick aim assist can reduce the control effort needed to stay on a moving target, but stronger assistance can also pull the camera away from the enemy you intended to select. Change one assistance setting, fight the same type of encounter and keep the least intrusive level that feels reliable.
Use wand free aim when snap targeting gets in the way
Wand users can select free aiming in Gameplay > Combat. This is a control preference, not a graphics-performance setting: it can make attacks feel more precise without changing the number of frames rendered.
Reduce camera inertia for comfort
Accessibility includes a camera-inertia reduction setting. Keen Games says it may help players who experience motion sickness. Reducing inertia can make camera movement feel more immediate even when the GPU workload is unchanged (official 1.0 notes).

Should V-Sync be on or off in Enshrouded?
Test both states; neither is a universal cure. Keen Games’ October 21, 2026 hotfix 1.0.0.3 specifically improved stuttering with V-Sync enabled on AMD graphics cards. Around launch, some players reported better results with V-Sync disabled, while others reported very different overall performance. Those reports justify an A/B check, not a blanket instruction (hotfix 1.0.0.3 notes; community discussion).
- Play the same route with V-Sync enabled and note camera pans, tearing and input response.
- Repeat with V-Sync disabled under the same resolution and quality settings.
- Keep the option that gives your display the steadier perceived pacing and acceptable latency. If tearing appears with V-Sync off, that is a real trade-off rather than proof that the GPU is faster.
If you use an AMD card and have not installed the 1.0.0.3 hotfix, update before drawing conclusions about V-Sync behavior.

The Steam listing gives requirements, not guaranteed frame rates. Both minimum and recommended tiers specify 16 GB of RAM and 60 GB of available storage. The minimum examples include a GTX 1060 or RX 580 with 6 GB of VRAM, or an Intel Arc A380; the recommended graphics examples are RTX 2070 Super, RX 6700 XT or Arc A770, with an SSD advised in the recommended tier (Keen Games Steam requirements).
| Published tier | Graphics examples | Memory | Storage | Other note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | GTX 1060 or RX 580 with 6 GB VRAM; Intel Arc A380 | 16 GB RAM | 60 GB available | Requirement, not an FPS benchmark |
| Recommended | RTX 2070 Super; RX 6700 XT; Intel Arc A770 | 16 GB RAM | 60 GB available | SSD advised; no numeric FPS promise |
The 6 GB annotation applies to the listed GTX 1060 and RX 580 examples; it should not be generalized to every GPU in the table. Meeting the recommended line does not establish a fixed frame rate because resolution, scene complexity and settings still matter.
Would an SSD or more RAM fix stutter?
An internal SSD is sensible when the game is installed on a hard drive, because the published recommended requirements advise an SSD. It can improve loading and asset-streaming conditions, but no supplied source promises a particular FPS increase from changing drives. Check your motherboard’s interface, physical drive size and operating-system support before buying; an incompatible drive cannot help a game that cannot use it.
If your computer has less than the published 16 GB RAM requirement, install a compatible 16 GB desktop kit before diagnosing graphics settings. If you already meet 16 GB, the requirements do not establish that adding more memory will produce a specific performance gain. Likewise, do not buy an older listed graphics model on the assumption that its requirement-tier position makes it a current value upgrade.

Does Steam Deck Verified mean a fixed performance target?
Keen Games announced Enshrouded 1.0 as Steam Deck Verified on October 23, 2026. Verification indicates compatibility criteria, not a guaranteed frame-rate target in every biome, base or combat scene. Use the same scene-based checks, and treat battery, display resolution and control preferences as separate decisions (Steam Deck announcement).
Are cloud play and server rental graphics fixes?
No. The official FAQ lists GeForce NOW availability and names GPortal as a server-rental partner, but cloud streaming and co-op hosting solve different problems from a locally GPU-bound client. A network or streaming issue needs connection and service troubleshooting; renting a server does not promise higher FPS on the player’s computer (Keen Games FAQ).
How we picked these settings
The recommendations prioritize the 1.0 release state, scene-dependent rendering cost, frame pacing and input response, distant-landscape legibility, fog and Shroud appearance, combat targeting and camera comfort, and the published hardware limits. The detailed Quality/Balanced mix is included because it is a concrete community starting point, while every performance conclusion is qualified because no controlled per-setting benchmark or official FPS uplift is supplied.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Enshrouded stutter only after a game or driver update?
The 1.0 renderer performs shader compilation after a game or graphics-driver update. Keen Games says the process is faster but that some compilation time is unavoidable, so let it finish before changing several settings at once.
Can lowering resolution fix every Enshrouded performance problem?
No. Lower resolution mainly helps when the GPU is limited by rendering pixels. Stutters caused by shader compilation, a busy base, frame-pacing behavior or network/cloud streaming require a different diagnosis.
What should I do if distant shadows flicker on the lowest preset?
Compare a higher-quality shadow setting in the same vista before sacrificing distant detail. Keen Games acknowledges that some distant shadow flickering can remain at Performance settings, so the lowest preset is not guaranteed to remove it.
Are controller aim assists useful for mouse-and-keyboard players?
The aim snap and stick aim controls described for 1.0 are controller-oriented. Mouse-and-keyboard players should focus on their targeting behavior, wand free-aim choice where relevant and camera-inertia setting instead.
