To install Langflow yourself, buy a Linux VPS with at least a dual-core CPU and 2 GB of RAM, connect over SSH, and deploy Langflow with Docker. Treat those figures as a documented starting point, not a guarantee: Langflow’s installation guide recommends a multicore CPU and at least 4 GB of RAM for the Python package. For a lasting public deployment, also configure a strong superuser password, persistent data storage, a domain, and HTTPS before sharing the service.
What does a self-managed Langflow VPS require?
A VPS is a virtual server that you administer yourself. For Langflow, that means choosing the server, installing its software, configuring access and web routing, and taking responsibility for storage and upgrades. Langflow documents Docker as an installation route and provides a remote-server walkthrough using Docker Compose and Caddy. The server needs to be reachable over SSH for that setup.

Langflow’s current installation documentation, for version 1.13.x, lists a dual-core CPU and 2 GB RAM as the minimum for the Python package, and recommends a multicore CPU and at least 4 GB RAM. Its remote-server example specifies a dual-core CPU and at least 2 GB RAM. These are product-documentation figures, not performance guarantees or the result of a benchmark. See Langflow’s installation requirements and its remote-server guide.
Use the lower figure as a practical floor for a small initial deployment, and consider the higher recommendation if you expect heavier flows or want more room for concurrent use. Actual needs depend on your flows, concurrency, custom components, and any services sharing the VPS; the documentation does not establish a universal sizing formula.

Starting specification
- CPU: At least two cores for the documented starting point; a multicore CPU is recommended in the installation guide.
- Memory: At least 2 GB for the documented minimum; consider 4 GB or more as a more comfortable starting point where workload or co-located services justify it.
- Operating system: Choose a Linux VPS compatible with the current Docker installation instructions for that distribution.
- Access: SSH access, preferably configured with an SSH key pair.
- Storage: Disk space and persistent storage for the application’s data and database. The documentation describes Compose deployments with persistent PostgreSQL, as well as a persistent-volume approach for SQLite.
- Public access: A domain and a way to route web traffic through a reverse proxy, then configure HTTPS before treating the service as secure public access.
How should I choose a VPS plan for Langflow?
Start with Langflow’s documented requirements, then compare current plans for the resources and administration features your deployment needs. No provider plan or price comparison is established here, so check live specifications and total cost directly with providers before purchasing.
Compare more than the advertised CPU and RAM
Review these plan details before committing:
- CPU and RAM: Confirm the actual allocation meets the starting specification and leaves headroom for your expected flows and other services. A provider’s listed specification is not evidence of Langflow performance.
- Storage and persistence: Check the available disk and how the provider handles storage attached to the VPS. Langflow’s database and uploaded or configuration data should not depend on a replaceable application container alone.
- Backups and snapshots: Find out what backup options exist, whether they are included or separately charged, and how you would restore data. Langflow’s Docker documentation recommends preparing backups before upgrades.
- Network transfer and region: Compare transfer allowances and data-center locations against your expected use and the people who need to reach the service.
- Firewall controls and support: Check whether you can manage network access and what assistance the provider offers. A self-managed VPS still requires you to configure and maintain the server.
- Total current price: Compare the cost for the resources and options you will actually use, not just an introductory price or headline rate.
Langflow’s remote-server guide uses Hetzner in its walkthrough. That makes it an example host for the procedure, not a recommendation, performance claim, or comparison of current VPS plans. DigitalOcean’s documentation describes Droplets as Linux virtual machines and recommends SSH key pairs over password-based logins; that is general server-access guidance, not a Langflow plan recommendation. See DigitalOcean’s SSH-key instructions.
How do I install Langflow on a VPS?
The simplest documented route for a VPS is Docker. For a durable deployment, use Langflow’s Compose approach, configure persistent storage, and put a reverse proxy in front of the application. The official remote-server guide demonstrates this pattern with Docker Compose and Caddy; follow its current instructions for the exact configuration.

- Provision the server. Choose a Linux VPS that meets the CPU and memory baseline, and confirm you can administer it with SSH. Add an SSH key during provisioning when available. If you use a provider that supports key pairs, follow its current setup steps; for DigitalOcean Droplets, the linked guide covers adding SSH keys to new or existing servers.
- Install Docker for your operating system. Use the current Docker instructions for the server’s Linux distribution. Langflow’s remote-server walkthrough includes an Ubuntu example, but a command shown for Ubuntu may not be appropriate for another operating system or installation method.
- Create the Langflow deployment. Follow Langflow’s Docker documentation to configure the application. Its quickstart maps port 7860 and sets
LANGFLOW_AUTO_LOGIN=falsealong with a superuser password. For a server you expect to keep using, prefer the documented Compose setup with persistent PostgreSQL or the documented persistent-volume approach rather than relying on an ephemeral application container. - Set authentication before public access. Choose a strong superuser password in the deployment configuration. Official Langflow release packages and Docker images disable automatic login by default; do not treat that default as a reason to leave administrator credentials unset or weak.
- Configure the reverse proxy and domain. Use the remote-server guide’s Compose and Caddy example to route web traffic to Langflow. Point the domain’s DNS record at the server as described in the guide, and confirm it resolves to the intended VPS before moving on.
- Enable HTTPS and test the public address. The guide’s initial public-access example uses HTTP, followed by separate HTTPS configuration. Complete the HTTPS steps before treating the service as secure public web access. Then open the domain using a secure connection and confirm the Langflow interface is reachable and requires the configured login.
Consult the official guides for the current configuration details: Deploy Langflow on Docker and Deploy Langflow on a remote server. The documentation and software can change; do not assume an old command, image tag, or operating-system-specific instruction remains current.
How do I keep Langflow’s data when the container changes?
Keep application data in persistent storage that remains attached when you replace the Langflow image. A container is the replaceable application layer; its database and other data should live in the persistent volumes or storage configured for the deployment.
Langflow’s Docker documentation describes a Compose deployment with persistent PostgreSQL and explains keeping volumes attached when changing an image during an upgrade. It also describes a SQLite-based volume approach. Choose one documented configuration and verify where its data is stored before relying on it. The documentation recommends preparing backups before upgrading.

For version updates, do not treat latest as an upgrade plan. Langflow documents it for quickstarts, while its upgrade guidance also demonstrates pinned version tags. Select a deliberate update strategy, back up the data, and check the current migration guidance for the version change you intend to make.
What can go wrong with a public Langflow VPS?
Most avoidable deployment problems come from exposing the wrong endpoint, relying on temporary storage, or assuming the minimum server size guarantees adequate performance. Check the configuration and the expected result at each stage rather than opening the service publicly as soon as the container starts.
The domain does not open
Confirm the DNS record points to the intended server and that the reverse proxy is configured to route traffic to Langflow. The remote-server walkthrough separates the initial HTTP example from the HTTPS setup, so verify which stage you have completed and use the matching address while testing.

The service is reachable but not protected as expected
Confirm automatic login is disabled, the superuser password is configured, and the public endpoint uses HTTPS. Langflow’s official images and release packages disable automatic login by default, but an administrator still needs to set a strong password. Do not confuse a working HTTP test with completed secure public access.
Data disappears after replacing an image
Check that the database and other required data are in the persistent storage configured for your Compose deployment, and that you retained the volume when changing the image. If the data was stored only in a replaceable container, the deployment was not configured for durable use.
Flows or concurrent use strain the server
The documented minimum is only a starting point. Reassess CPU and memory if the deployment runs heavier flows, serves more concurrent users, includes custom components, or shares the VPS with other services. The available documentation does not provide benchmark-based sizing for those situations, so do not assume a particular plan will meet them without observing your own workload.

What should I check before sharing the service?
Use this final checklist before handing the domain to other users:
- The server has at least the documented baseline, with additional CPU or memory considered for the intended workload.
- You can administer the VPS over SSH, using an SSH key where supported.
- Docker and the Compose deployment follow instructions current for the server’s operating system.
- Automatic login is disabled and a strong superuser password is set.
- Application data is stored persistently, and a backup exists before an upgrade.
- The domain resolves to the VPS, Caddy or the chosen documented reverse-proxy setup routes to Langflow, and HTTPS is configured.
- You have checked current provider plan details and current Langflow deployment and migration guidance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does self-managed mean for a Langflow VPS?
It means the VPS provider supplies the virtual server, while you administer the software and deployment on it. You are responsible for configuring access, keeping the deployment updated, and managing its data and backups.
Can I use a domain I already own for Langflow?
Yes, if you can configure its DNS to point to the VPS and complete the remote-server guide’s domain and HTTPS setup. The domain itself does not replace the reverse proxy or HTTPS configuration.
Is a VPS the same as a Langflow cloud account?
No. A VPS deployment is a server you rent and administer; the official guide describes installing Langflow on a remote server. The documentation cited here does not compare that setup with a hosted Langflow service.
