The Sims 4’s October 27, 2026 “Order Up!” update is a broad food and dining quality-of-life pass, not a conventional recipe pack. It changes refrigerator access, retunes food prices and calories across the game, makes hungry Sims more likely to choose leftovers, greatly expands the Businesses & Hobbies Family Recipes pool, adds a pack-gated baking shortcut, and addresses more than 150 bugs, including at least 25 involving Dine Out.
The practical result is less duplicate cooking, easier access to stored food, more dishes eligible for Family Recipes, and more reliable restaurant behavior. The update does not publish a complete ingredient catalog or a recipe-by-recipe price and calorie comparison, and it does not guarantee that every restaurant or autonomy problem is gone.

What changed in The Sims 4’s food overhaul?
The update combines tuning, autonomy changes, new eligibility in an existing recipe system, and bug fixes across the base game and packs. Its most visible effects are in ordinary household cooking: the refrigerator menu is quicker to use, leftovers receive a stronger priority, and dishes can be handled more sensibly after they are prepared.
Refrigerator access takes fewer clicks
EA moved the refrigerator’s Open interaction to the front of the refrigerator pie menu. This is a menu-order adjustment rather than a new inventory system. Stored meals and ingredients are still managed through the same refrigerator, but the interaction appears earlier, reducing the number of selections needed to reach them.

Food prices and calories were retuned
The Sims Team says it completed a tuning pass for pricing and calorie values for food and drinks in the base game and all packs. The stated aim is more consistent balancing across the catalog.
EA’s notes do not include a before-and-after table for individual recipes or beverages. That means you can accurately describe the change as a game-wide retuning, but not claim that a particular dish became cheaper, more expensive, higher in calories, or lower in calories unless a later source documents that item specifically.

Revised autonomy makes hungry Sims more likely to eat leftovers stored in the refrigerator or left on a counter instead of autonomously starting a new meal. This should reduce households producing another full serving while prepared food is already available.
“Prefer” is important. The notes describe a change in weighting, not an absolute command. A Sim may still cook, choose another interaction, or fail to route to a leftover in particular circumstances. The update makes leftover eating more likely; it does not promise that every hungry Sim will always select one.
How do Family Recipes work after the update?
Businesses & Hobbies now accepts more than 375 dishes that already existed elsewhere in The Sims 4, including many culturally specific meals, as valid candidates for its Family Recipes system. You need the Businesses & Hobbies expansion to use this feature.
More eligible dishes, not 375 brand-new recipes
The number refers to an expanded eligibility pool. Most of these dishes were already available through the base game or other packs; the update makes them usable within the Family Recipes framework. It is therefore misleading to describe the patch as adding 375 newly invented recipes to the cooking menu.

Some dishes remain excluded
A small number of items are still left out for technical reasons or because they do not fit the intended definition of a family dish. EA gives graham crackers as an example. The published notes do not provide an exhaustive list of every included and excluded item, so the safest expectation is a much larger pool with a limited set of exceptions.
What this means for pack ownership
The dishes can originate in the base game or in other packs, but the Family Recipes feature itself is tied to Businesses & Hobbies. Owning a pack that supplies a particular dish does not, by itself, grant the Family Recipes system if Businesses & Hobbies is not installed.
What does Quickly Decorate do in The Sims 4?
Quickly Decorate is a new interaction for baked goods made with the Baking skill. It requires Get to Work and appears when the baked item is not centered on a countertop.
The interaction uses a shorter animation and is intended to avoid routing failures that occurred when a Sim could not reach a cake or other baked good positioned toward the back or edge of a counter. In other words, it addresses a specific placement problem rather than replacing the normal baking or decorating process.
This is not a universal shortcut for every cooking interaction. It is pack-gated, applies to Baking-skill goods, and is conditional on the item’s countertop position. Base-game cooking and non-baking interactions do not automatically gain Quickly Decorate.
Which packs are involved in the cooking changes?
Some improvements apply broadly, while others depend on a particular expansion or address behavior supplied by a specific pack.

Did EA finally fix Dine Out?
Dine Out received substantial reliability work, but the update should not be described as a complete rebuild or a guarantee that every restaurant issue is permanently solved. EA lists more than 25 Dine Out fixes within more than 150 total bug fixes and asks players to continue reporting problems.
Customer and seating behavior
- Customers are less likely to leave their tables to perform unrelated actions.
- Excessive socializing before seating is addressed.
- Sims are less likely to eat while standing.
- Customers should be less likely to leave food or drinks unconsumed before checkout.
Staff and restaurant interactions
- Waiter shifts that failed to start are among the corrected cases.
- Customers failing to interact with restaurant employees is addressed.
- Waiter dish-cleanup failures are included in the fixes.
- Table-footprint problems that affected placement and routing are targeted.
Cooking progression
Some Dine Out recipes were awarding cooking-skill progression incorrectly. The patch notes identify that progression behavior as another corrected area. The notes do not publish a full recipe-by-recipe list, so they support an improved system rather than a promise about one specific dish.

The overhaul reaches into several smaller interactions that are easy to miss in the headline features.
Base-game behavior
- Sims are more likely to remain seated while eating.
- Dishes should be placed on dining tables or counters instead of inappropriate surfaces.
- Food prepared by another Sim can be dragged into the refrigerator.
Weather, autonomy, and pack-specific corrections
- Sims should no longer autonomously use grills during snow, rain, ice, or storms.
- Autonomy for Fizzy Juice, seltzer, and kombucha was adjusted.
- With Simple Living active, Cottage Living Sims can grill salmon or cook raspberry pie.
- Horse Ranch nectar quantities are now reported correctly.
- For Rent pressure-cooker overuse is reduced.
- Outdoor Retreat Sims should no longer abandon eating to play horseshoes.
- The Chinese-inspired food stall in Tartosa now sells food rather than produce.
These are corrections to existing systems, not evidence of a new universal ingredient economy. They also do not imply that every pack’s food behavior was rewritten; the notes identify the specific cases above.
Did The Sims 4 add new ingredients or publish a full recipe list?
No complete ingredient list, recipe-by-recipe price table, calorie table, or exhaustive list of the 375-plus Family Recipes is included in the official notes. The documented change is the scope of the tuning and the expansion of the Family Recipes eligibility pool.
That distinction matters when planning a household or a challenge. You can rely on more dishes being valid for Family Recipes if you own Businesses & Hobbies, but you cannot infer a new ingredient requirement, a changed shopping cost, or a specific calorie result for an individual dish from the patch announcement alone.

Which game versions contain the overhaul?
The October 27, 2026 patch versions listed for this update are:

If your installed version is older, the menu order, autonomy behavior, Family Recipes eligibility, and bug fixes described here may not be present. Platform version numbers are not interchangeable, so compare the number shown by your own launcher or console rather than assuming the PC build applies to every device.
How should you troubleshoot food problems after the patch?
First establish whether the game is running the October 2026 build, then separate a game change from a mod conflict. EA says some crash reports remain associated with outdated or conflicting mod files and directs mod users to its Mods & Game Updates Guide.
- Check the installed version. Confirm that PC, Mac, or console matches the corresponding version listed above.
- Review installed mods and custom content. An older tuning mod can affect autonomy, recipes, routing, or menus even when the base game patch is installed correctly.
- Use EA’s Mods & Game Updates guidance. Follow its current process for identifying outdated or conflicting files rather than assuming a food change caused a crash.
- Reproduce the issue without the suspect mod. If the behavior disappears, update or remove the conflicting file before adding other changes.
- Report issues that remain in an unmodified game. Restaurant and autonomy fixes improve reliability, but EA’s request for continued reports means unresolved edge cases are still possible.
Do not treat a single routing failure as proof that Quickly Decorate is broken or that Dine Out has reverted. The documented features have conditions, and the patch does not claim to eliminate every failure mode.

Opening the refrigerator takes less menu navigation, a hungry Sim is more likely to consume an existing serving, and prepared food can be put away more reliably. Those changes can reduce duplicated meals and the clutter caused by dishes being left on unsuitable surfaces.
Players who use Businesses & Hobbies gain the largest recipe-system change because many dishes that were previously outside Family Recipes can now qualify. Players who bake with Get to Work gain a narrower routing tool, especially when counters are crowded or a baked item is placed near an edge. Restaurant players receive a broad set of reliability fixes, but should still regard Dine Out as an improved system rather than a formally rebuilt one.

The patch is best understood as a coordinated cleanup of food, drinks, dining, and related autonomy. It changes how existing content behaves and how some of that content fits into Family Recipes, while also repairing many cross-pack interactions. Its headline numbers—more than 375 newly eligible existing dishes, more than 150 total bug fixes, more than 25 Dine Out fixes, and 14 new crash and assert fixes—describe scope, not a promise that every player will see the same change in every save.
