As of October 30, 2026, no named main-story quest is listed after Prologue to Tau. It is the latest published endpoint of Warframe’s Tau-facing story path. If you have completed it, there is no successor quest to select yet; the next chapter will depend on a future Digital Extremes update. Players still working toward it should follow the story sequence through The Hex and The Old Peace, which are its required prerequisites.
This distinction matters because Warframe mixes a linear narrative path with optional branches, replayable content and temporary operations. The guide below separates the strict story order from those side paths, explains what is inside the Tau prologue, and shows how to verify your own account’s next available quest.

Nothing with a published quest name currently follows it. The current quest taxonomy places Prologue to Tau at the end of the named Tau-facing arc, and no later main-story successor is listed as of October 30, 2026.
That is a current endpoint, not a promise that the story is finished permanently. Warframe receives continuing narrative updates, so Digital Extremes can add another Tau chapter later. Until that happens, completing the available Tau prologue leaves you at the latest released point in the main quest path.

If you searched for “Warframe quest order after Prologue to Tau,” “what comes after Prologue to Tau,” or “what quest is next after Tau Prologue,” the practical answer is the same: there is no hidden mission waiting behind a special trigger. A Codex with no later main-story entry means your account has reached the currently published endpoint.
What is the correct Warframe main-story order before Prologue to Tau?
If you want the story-focused route, use this sequence. It reflects narrative progression rather than every quest that can appear early in the Codex.

Prelude to War is an umbrella arc in this list, so its three named pieces should be read in the order shown. Keeping them together prevents a common mistake in which players treat the arc label as one mission and then place Erra or The Maker in the wrong spot.
The official Quest Guide organizes Warframe’s story into arcs, while the broader quest taxonomy also lists optional branches and one-off quests. Therefore, an account may expose content in a different order from this clean narrative list without indicating that anything is broken.
How do I unlock Prologue to Tau?
You must complete both The Hex and The Old Peace. The Tau prologue does not replace either prerequisite, and finishing only one of them is not enough to make the quest available.
Check the two prerequisites
- Open the Codex and review your completed quests.
- Confirm that The Hex is marked complete.
- Confirm that The Old Peace is also marked complete.
- Return to the main quest listing and look for Prologue to Tau.
If the quest is absent, compare your Codex against those two requirements first. The in-game listing is the authoritative view of your account because it reflects your actual completion state, not a generic guide written for a new player. Checking both entries is more useful than assuming that finishing The Hex alone should unlock the Tau content.

What happens inside Prologue to Tau?
Prologue to Tau is presented as a narrative arc made up of smaller quests rather than one uninterrupted mission. The current internal chronology begins with Lua, followed by Vessel, and then an additional mini-quest.
Those chapters are being released in stages. Consequently, the arc can appear in the Codex even when every planned mini-quest is not yet available on the same date. Seeing the arc title does not necessarily mean that every chapter has already been published; inspect the individual entries to determine which part is active or complete.
The quest is permanent and replayable, so it is part of the ongoing game rather than a limited window that disappears when an event ends. Replayability also means that finishing the arc does not create a second, secret continuation. It simply lets you revisit the released chapters while waiting for a later story update.
Is Epoch Operation: Taubound the same thing as Prologue to Tau?
No. They are separate pieces of content that share the Tau theme but have different availability and progression rules.

| Feature | Prologue to Tau | Epoch Operation: Taubound |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Permanent Codex quest arc | Limited-time operation |
| Availability | Added as a lasting quest on October 15, 2026 | Scheduled from October 15, 2026 through November 17, 2026 |
| Progression role | Part of the named Tau-facing narrative | Separate event content with its own rewards and dialogue |
| Replay status | Replayable | Bound to the event period announced by Digital Extremes |
Completing or missing the operation does not create a hidden main-story quest after the prologue. The official announcement distinguishes the event’s rewards and dialogue from the permanent Codex quest. In other words, an event reward, event conversation or event completion flag should not be treated as another numbered chapter in the story order.
Where do Duviri, Jade Shadows and Angels of the Zariman fit?
These quests should not be inserted as mandatory steps after Prologue to Tau. They belong to different branches or groupings in the current taxonomy, and some can become available earlier than their position in the wider narrative might suggest.

Duviri Paradox
Duviri Paradox is associated with the New War-related story grouping, but its availability can occur earlier. That difference is between when content unlocks and where it sits in the broader chronology. Treating it as an automatic post-Tau successor would therefore give the wrong answer to a player asking for the next main quest. If it appears in your Codex before you reach Tau, that is an availability rule, not proof that the central sequence has changed.
Jade Shadows and Jade Shadows: Constellations
These are separate branch or one-off content in the current taxonomy. They may be worth completing for a fuller account history, but they are not links in the required chain from The Old Peace to a later Tau chapter. Their presence in an available-quests list does not override the two prerequisites for Prologue to Tau.
Angels of the Zariman
Angels of the Zariman is likewise separate from the mandatory post-Tau sequence. A completionist route can include it according to the Codex, but a strict main-story answer should leave it outside the linear list above.
Should I follow a strict story order or complete optional quests first?
Choose the strict order if you want the clearest narrative progression. Choose a completionist approach if your goal is to clear every available branch, even when the game exposes a branch before its ideal chronological position.
| Approach | Use it when | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Strict main-story order | You want the next required narrative step | Follow the 21-item sequence and stop at Prologue to Tau until a new chapter is published. |
| Completionist order | You want every branch, one-off quest and replayable arc | Use the Codex to clear optional entries such as Duviri Paradox, Jade Shadows, Jade Shadows: Constellations and Angels of the Zariman when they become available. |
The important distinction is availability versus chronology. A quest appearing in your Codex does not automatically mean it is the next mandatory chapter in the central plot. Nor does delaying an optional branch prevent you from understanding why Prologue to Tau is the current endpoint.
How can I check what quest is next on my account?
The Codex is more reliable than a static web list for account-specific progress. Digital Extremes’ official Quest Guide says, “Log in and we’ll automatically track your Quest progress so you always know exactly where to go next.”

- Log in to the account whose progress you want to check.
- Open the in-game Codex.
- Go to the Quests section and inspect completed, active and available entries.
- Use the main-story sequence above to distinguish a required chapter from an optional branch.
- If The Hex and The Old Peace are complete, look for Prologue to Tau.
- Open the Tau arc and check whether Lua, Vessel and the additional released mini-quest are individually listed.
- If Prologue to Tau is complete, do not search for an unlisted successor; monitor official quest announcements for the next release.
This method also explains why two players can report different “next quests.” Their accounts may have different prerequisites, optional content or event participation, even though the published main-story endpoint is the same. It also avoids a second common error: confusing an event tile or a replay button with a newly released story chapter.
Why might the official Quest Guide and the Codex look different?
The official Quest Guide’s rendered story list currently shows arcs through The Hex, while a later official announcement confirms that Prologue to Tau was added on October 15, 2026 as a permanent quest. Current quest pages place the Tau prologue after The Hex and The Old Peace.
For release status, use the dated announcement. For the latest displayed order and the prologue’s internal mini-quests, use the current quest taxonomy and your in-game Codex. This is a normal freshness issue for a live-service game, not evidence of an extra quest hidden between the two sources.
Because the game is actively updated, treat every “latest quest” answer as date-stamped. This guide is accurate for October 30, 2026. A future Digital Extremes update could add a named successor, expand the staged mini-quest arc or revise how the Codex groups the story.

What should I do after finishing Prologue to Tau?
If you have completed every currently available Tau mini-quest, there is no additional named main-story mission to unlock at this time. You can replay the permanent prologue, clear optional branches, or continue other activities while waiting for a future narrative update. You do not need to complete Epoch Operation: Taubound to qualify for a later Tau chapter, and no purchase or special physical item is required to follow the quest chain.
- Verify that Lua, Vessel and the currently released additional mini-quest are complete.
- Review optional entries in the Codex rather than treating them as a post-Tau chain.
- Check official Digital Extremes announcements for a new Tau chapter or a change to the quest taxonomy.
- Keep the date in mind: this endpoint is accurate for October 30, 2026 and may change with a later update.
Common mistakes when planning the order
- Assuming the event is the sequel: Taubound has its own rewards and dialogue and is not the permanent Codex arc.
- Stopping after The Hex: The Old Peace is also required before the prologue can appear.
- Adding every Codex entry to one list: optional branches and one-off quests are not automatically central-story steps.
- Expecting all mini-quests at once: the Tau chapters are released in stages, so availability can change while the arc remains listed.
- Using an undated list as proof of a successor: live-service quest orders can change; check the Codex and current Digital Extremes announcements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Prologue to Tau the latest Warframe quest?
Yes, it is the latest named main-story endpoint listed in the current quest taxonomy as of October 30, 2026. That status can change when Digital Extremes publishes another Tau chapter.

What quest is next after Tau Prologue if my Codex shows nothing?
There is no hidden successor to activate. A blank main-story queue means you have reached the currently published endpoint; use the Codex to find optional branches or replayable content instead.
Can I play Prologue to Tau without doing The Old Peace?
No. The Old Peace and The Hex are both required before the prologue becomes accessible. Completing only one prerequisite will not satisfy the unlock condition.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteAre the Taubound event rewards required for the Tau story?
No. Epoch Operation: Taubound has separate rewards and dialogue from the permanent Codex quest. Its announced event window was October 15 through November 17, 2026, so event participation is not a prerequisite for the prologue.
What is the order inside Prologue to Tau?
The current arc begins with Lua, continues with Vessel and then includes an additional mini-quest. Chapters are being released in stages, so check the Codex for which entries are currently available.
Should Duviri Paradox come after Prologue to Tau?
No. Duviri is grouped with New War-related story content but can become available earlier. It is an optional branch, not a named successor to the Tau prologue.
What should I do if The Hex is complete but Prologue to Tau is missing?
Confirm that The Old Peace is also marked complete, then refresh the Codex quest list. If both prerequisites are finished and the entry still does not appear, rely on the in-game listing and the latest Digital Extremes announcement for account-specific availability.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: As of October 30, 2026, Prologue to Tau is Warframe’s latest named main-story endpoint. Complete The Hex and The Old Peace first, play the staged Lua-to-Vessel arc and its additional mini-quest, and treat Taubound and other branches as separate content. There is no published quest after it yet.
