Hosted, dedicated and community do not describe three competing WARDOGS server types. “Hosted” describes where the service runs and who supplies its infrastructure; “dedicated” describes the server arrangement or hardware allocation; “community” describes who operates the match and sets local rules. A rented community server can therefore run on dedicated infrastructure. For most players, the practical choice is between Bulkhead’s Official servers and Community servers. For prospective administrators, the documented route is to rent through a host listed in Bulkhead’s current approved-partner directory—not to assume that a home machine, generic VPS or standalone server download will work.

At a glance

Name Best for Key spec Checked
Official server Players who want Bulkhead-operated matchmaking and publisher governance Bulkhead operates it; publisher anti-cheat and reporting apply Oct 2026
Community server Groups that want local rules, moderation and a particular community Player or community operator; local kick and ban powers Oct 2026
Dedicated infrastructure Administrators seeking an allocated server arrangement Infrastructure description, not a guarantee of WARDOGS software access or ownership Oct 2026

The labels overlap. “Hosted community server” is a normal description: a community rents infrastructure from a hosting company, while the community controls its rules. “Dedicated” does not automatically mean official, community-run, self-hosted or better performing.

What do hosted, dedicated and community mean in WARDOGS?

These terms answer different questions, so treating them as three mutually exclusive choices creates confusion.

Hosted: where the service runs

A hosted server runs on infrastructure supplied by a hosting company or another provider. The provider may handle the machine, network connection, deployment and support, while the customer administers the WARDOGS community server. Bulkhead’s ServerHub presents an approved-partners area and a Server Admin Hub for this managed route.

Dedicated: how infrastructure is allocated

“Dedicated” generally means a server arrangement reserved for one service or customer rather than a shared game process. It describes infrastructure, not the identity of the moderator. A dedicated machine can host an official service, a rented community service or another workload. Buying a physical computer does not by itself provide WARDOGS server software, an account entitlement or permission to install it.

Community: who runs the match locally

A community server is operated by a player, clan or organized group. Bulkhead’s WARDOGS Player Safety page, last updated September 7, 2026, states: “The people running a server set their own rules on it and can kick or ban players from it.” That local authority is the defining practical difference for a joiner.

What is the actionable difference between Official and Community servers?

When you are choosing a match in the browser, the useful decision is usually Official versus Community. The following distinctions are based on Bulkhead’s policy and the documented browser behavior.

Question Official server Community server
Who operates it? Bulkhead’s official service A player or community; a hosting company may supply infrastructure
Who sets local rules? Publisher governance The community operator sets local rules
Who can kick or ban locally? Publisher-side administration The community operator can kick or ban from that server
Where do you look? Official browser list Community browser list
Does publisher anti-cheat apply? Yes Yes; community hosting does not remove it
Where do in-game reports go? Bulkhead Bulkhead, rather than directly to the local operator

A community administrator can enforce house rules, but that role does not replace Bulkhead’s online safety systems. Treat a local ban and a publisher action as separate things: one concerns access to that community server, while the other concerns the game’s wider services.

Is a community server also a dedicated server?

It can be, but the words describe different attributes. “Community” identifies the operator and local governance; “dedicated” identifies the infrastructure arrangement. A rented community server using a reserved host instance is both community-run and dedicated. A community server could use another arrangement if the approved host offers one, and an official server could also use dedicated infrastructure.

Do not infer capacity, latency, uptime or moderation quality from the word “dedicated.” No independent comparative study establishes that dedicated community servers are faster, safer or more reliable than Official servers. Compare the actual listing, location, rules and availability instead.

How do I find the right WARDOGS server in the browser?

Use the browser’s Official and Community lists as separate pools, then check the details of the individual listing. Interface details have changed, so verify labels in your installed client.

  1. Open the server browser or Deploy flow. Dated September patch reports describe separate Official and Community lists. A later Deploy flow also signposted Official, Community, Infantry Mode and Low-Level choices.
  2. Search the appropriate list. Reports on the September patches describe text search, persistent server IDs and controls for empty or full community listings.
  3. Read the listing before joining. Check ping or location, displayed mode, occupancy, availability and any stated community rules. A mode label is not an ownership or hardware class.
  4. Use the persistent ID when coordinating with friends. A name can be ambiguous or change; a persistent identifier is intended to make a particular community listing easier to find.
  5. Recheck after updates. Because the browser and Deploy flow have changed across patches, do not assume every current client presents exactly the same filters or tabs described in older reports.

Infantry Mode and Low-Level are gameplay or matchmaking signposts, not alternatives to Official, Community or Dedicated. Selecting one does not tell you who owns the server or what hardware it uses.

Can I host a WARDOGS dedicated server myself?

Do not assume that you can install a standalone WARDOGS server on a home PC, NAS, physical server or generic VPS. A third-party host guide updated October 25, 2026, reported no public standalone server package or SteamCMD server app ID. The publisher material reviewed here does not establish a permanent self-hosting ban, but it also does not document independent installation as a supported path.

The practical, documented route is an approved managed host:

  1. Open Bulkhead’s live ServerHub directory. Use the current approved-partners list rather than relying on an old article or a remembered provider name. The directory is dynamic, and a dated guide recorded differences between historical announcements and its October 29 live-directory check.
  2. Confirm the host’s current approval. A provider’s own claim is not a substitute for the publisher’s current directory. 1of1 Servers, for example, announced on October 5, 2026, that it had partnered with Bulkhead to power WARDOGS community servers; still verify the live listing and terms before purchasing.
  3. Compare the actual plan. Check available locations, player-slot tier, administrative tools, support, cancellation terms and any restrictions in the host’s current offer.
  4. Configure community rules after deployment. The rented infrastructure does not make the server Official. You remain responsible for the local rules and moderation applied to your community.
  5. Keep publisher policies in force. Hosting does not exempt players or administrators from Bulkhead’s anti-cheat, reporting or safety requirements.

Do not buy hardware on the assumption that a server package will appear later. Approval, software access and account permissions are separate from owning a machine with enough CPU, memory or bandwidth.

How many players and locations can a server support?

Steam’s BULKHEAD-authored WARDOGS listing describes battles of 100 players across three teams. That is a description of the game, not proof that every Official or Community listing has 100 slots.

Provider offers can differ. 1of1 Servers advertised 60-, 80- or 100-player tiers in 2026 and identified Ashburn and Dallas as deployable US locations. Those figures are that provider’s advertised options, not a universal WARDOGS capacity or a promise that every region has the same choices.

For a joiner, the useful signals are the server’s displayed occupancy, location and current availability. For an administrator, confirm the slot tier and region in the host’s current plan; do not extrapolate from another provider’s numbers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should a player check before joining a community server?

Community servers can feel very different because their operators choose local rules and moderation. Use this checklist before committing to one.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
  • Rules: Read the name, description or linked community rules for restrictions on voice chat, play style, language, team behavior or role-play.
  • Moderation: Understand that the operator can remove or ban you from that server. A local ban is not necessarily a Bulkhead account sanction.
  • Location and ping: Prefer a geographically suitable listing, but do not treat location alone as a measured latency guarantee.
  • Mode: Confirm the displayed mode and any Infantry Mode or Low-Level signpost; these labels do not identify ownership.
  • Availability: Empty/full filters and occupancy can change quickly, especially for popular listings.
  • Identity: Save the persistent server ID when the client exposes one so your group can return to the same listing.
  • Reporting: Use Bulkhead’s reporting route for in-game safety or cheating concerns; do not assume the local operator receives or adjudicates those reports.

What should an administrator compare before renting?

Choose a host and plan on operational facts, not on the word “dedicated.”

Decision point Why it matters
Publisher approval Confirms the route is recognized in Bulkhead’s current directory.
Region Determines which locations are available to your intended players; a provider’s listed city is not a global guarantee.
Slot tier Sets the advertised player capacity for that plan; compare the exact tier rather than assuming the game’s 100-player description applies everywhere.
Admin controls Determines how you configure rules, manage access and respond to routine moderation issues.
Support and terms Defines escalation, billing, cancellation and recovery if deployment fails or the provider changes its offer.
Community fit Explains the rules, schedule and moderation standards players will actually experience.

Historical announcements have named several hosts at different times, but the publisher’s dynamically displayed directory is the authoritative place to check current approval. An omitted name in an older article is not proof that the provider lost approval.

What happens when a community server has a problem?

Identify whether the problem is local to one community or affects Bulkhead’s wider service.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • One server is missing: Check its availability, search text and persistent ID, then verify that a client update has not changed the browser filters.
  • The server is full: Use the browser’s full/empty controls where available, or try again after the current match ends.
  • You are kicked or banned: Contact the community through its stated rules or support channel. The local operator controls access to that server.
  • You suspect cheating or a safety violation: Use Bulkhead’s in-game reporting process. Community hosting does not redirect publisher reports to the local administrator.
  • You cannot deploy a rented server: Check the host’s current approval, plan terms and support process before troubleshooting your own hardware. A generic dedicated machine is not evidence that the WARDOGS service can be installed there.

Which server should you choose?

Choose an Official server when you want Bulkhead’s standard service and do not need a community’s custom rules. Choose a Community server when a trusted group’s rules, schedule or moderation are the reason you are joining. If you plan to operate one, start with Bulkhead’s live approved-hosting directory and evaluate the provider’s current region, slot tier, controls, support and terms.

The central distinction is governance, not a browser tab labeled “dedicated.” Hosted tells you who supplies the infrastructure; dedicated tells you how that infrastructure is allocated; community tells you who runs the match locally. Keeping those axes separate prevents the most expensive mistake: buying hardware or a generic server plan without confirmed WARDOGS software support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a dedicated WARDOGS server guarantee lower ping?

No. “Dedicated” describes an infrastructure arrangement, not a measured latency result. Choose based on the listing’s location and your players’ observed connection quality; no independent comparison establishes a universal speed advantage.

Can a community operator see reports I submit to Bulkhead?

Bulkhead’s policy directs in-game reports to the publisher, including on community servers. The local operator can enforce its own rules, but that does not make the operator the destination for publisher reports.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why can’t I find a server that was listed in an older guide?

Host approval lists and browser presentation can change. Use Bulkhead’s live ServerHub directory and search the current browser by text or persistent ID instead of treating historical host names or screenshots as current.

Are Infantry Mode and Low-Level dedicated-server modes?

No. They are mode or matchmaking signposts shown in a dated Deploy flow, not ownership categories or hardware classes. A listing can still be Official or Community regardless of those labels.
