Uniswap Labs launched Aggregator Hooks on October 22, 2026, turning seven external liquidity sources into Uniswap v4-style pools on Ethereum mainnet, Base, and Robinhood Chain. Uniswap says those sources cover more than 90% of decentralized-exchange activity on the three networks. The launch is being challenged by 0x, which says many permissionless v4 hooks can show one price during quoting and deliver another when a trade settles.
The practical conclusion is narrower than either side’s headline: Aggregator Hooks are a new routing layer, while 0x’s figures concern a much broader population of third-party hooks. Uniswap documents allowlists, code-generated warnings, and optional per-hop slippage limits, but the public record does not establish that every adapter route receives those protections by default.

Uniswap’s announcement describes v4 as “now an aggregator.” Aggregator Hooks wrap outside liquidity venues so the Uniswap Web App and API can include them alongside native Uniswap liquidity in a single route.

Uniswap says its router refreshes connected-source quotes every block, selects a route across Uniswap and external liquidity, and settles all legs atomically in one transaction. Traders keep existing token approvals and do not need a separate approval for the external venue. Uniswap also says routes using wrapped sources pay protocol fees that contribute to UNI burn.

How do Aggregator Hooks work?
The feature makes an external venue look like a v4 pool to the routing system, without moving that venue’s liquidity into Uniswap.
- Quote collection: The router reads prices from connected sources and refreshes them every block.
- Route construction: It can combine Uniswap liquidity with one or more wrapped external sources, selecting the path that appears to offer the best execution.
- Hook execution: The adapter calls the underlying venue through the v4 hook interface.
- Atomic settlement: The complete path executes in one transaction, so a reverted transaction does not leave only part of the route completed. Atomicity does not, by itself, guarantee that the final output matches the quoted output.
Because the adapter is Uniswap-developed, these integrations are a different surface from arbitrary third-party hooks deployed by unrelated developers. That distinction matters when interpreting 0x’s findings.

What does 0x’s September analysis claim?
In a September 14, 2026 post, 0x said it examined 84,163 Uniswap v4 hooks across six chains using static analysis, dynamic analysis, and observations of settled trades. The data were current as of September 11, 2026.

0x says a malicious hook can recognize a quoting environment, return a favorable number while a route is being simulated, and behave differently during execution. It reported routes delivering as much as 50% less at settlement than the quoted amount. Those percentages and the loss figure are 0x’s classifications and observations, not an independently adjudicated industry-wide rate.

The post also reported 81.92 million trades routed and $42.67 billion in volume during 2026, with roughly 70% of transactions touching Uniswap liquidity. Two examples were a Base ETH/NVDAc hook with 6,516 fills and $143,037 in fees, and a BNB Chain USDT/WBNB hook with 4,879 fills and $18,592 in fees. 0x marked both datasets as of September 11, 2026.
Why is the dispute relevant to Aggregator Hooks?
The concern is quote integrity: whether the output shown before signing is the output that can actually be received. A hook that changes behavior between simulation and settlement can make a route look competitive while transferring value to the hook operator or another party.

A high malicious-hook rate in the broader v4 ecosystem does not prove that every new adapter is malicious or unsafe. Conversely, the adapter label alone is not proof that every underlying pool or route has been independently reviewed.
CryptoSlate reported that Uniswap founder Hayden Adams called the criticism a “skill issue” on September 15, while Paradigm’s Dan Robinson reportedly argued that the problem was a routing mistake. Those statements describe the disagreement but do not provide deployment-wide execution data.

What protections does Uniswap document?
Allowlisting
Uniswap’s routing guidance, updated October 16, 2026, says most hooks are automatically considered. Manual allowlisting is required for hooks deployed at an address beginning with “0x91…” or using beforeSwapReturnsDelta, afterSwapReturnsDelta, beforeSwap, afterSwap, or dynamicFees.
The same guidance says allowlisting only means the routing algorithm may consider pools using the hook. It is explicitly not an endorsement, recommendation, or security review.

Uniswap’s hook-warning system examines hook code and may flag standard or dangerous properties that affect swaps or liquidity actions. Uniswap says warnings are informational, may be inaccurate or out of date, and may have little data for newer or less popular hooks. They are not a guarantee that a route is safe.
Per-hop slippage limits
OpenZeppelin’s October 8, 2026 audit of specified changes to Uniswap Universal Router and v4 Periphery documents per-hop slippage checks for multi-step trades. These checks supplement the normal minimum-output and maximum-input thresholds, but callers can omit them by passing an empty maxHopSlippage array. The audit therefore documents an available control, not proof that it is enabled on every Aggregator Hook route.

What did the OpenZeppelin audit establish?
OpenZeppelin reviewed two specified pull requests in the Universal Router and v4 Periphery. It reported one resolved low-severity issue involving an allowance to an arbitrary address in cross-chain bridging code and one note concerning unnamed mapping parameters. Its conclusion was that no significant issues were identified within the audited scope.
That scope does not cover every deployed route, every external venue, or every future adapter. It also does not demonstrate that all new routes use per-hop limits without caller configuration.
Are the new routes safe by default?
There is not enough public evidence to answer yes. The unresolved question is whether Uniswap’s adapters and allowlists screen the underlying pools comprehensively and whether per-hop minimum-output protection is applied by default across all Aggregator Hook routes.
CryptoSlate reported on October 23 that public execution-quality data and deployment-specific independent audits were still lacking. The same coverage summarized an Enso investigation of an Ethereum Curve USDC/USDT pool: 129,070 successful swaps delivered less than quoted, with approximately $225,000 in gross quote overstatement and an estimated $34,593 in attacker extraction. Whether that particular pool can be reached through Uniswap’s new adapters was not confirmed.

What should traders check before using an Aggregator Hook route?
- Read the final minimum-output or maximum-input value in the transaction request rather than relying only on the headline quote.
- Inspect each route hop and identify whether it uses native Uniswap liquidity or an external adapter.
- Treat an allowlist badge or code warning as a signal, not as a security certification.
- For multi-hop trades, verify that the caller supplies meaningful per-hop limits instead of leaving
maxHopSlippageempty. - Be especially cautious when the quoted output changes sharply between blocks or when a route depends on a new or lightly used hook.
- If execution quality is critical, compare the expected and settled amounts on-chain after the transaction rather than assuming the pre-trade simulation was authoritative.
Until route-level audits and live execution statistics are published for the adapters, the most defensible view is that Aggregator Hooks expand liquidity access while leaving quote manipulation and default protection as open verification questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does atomic settlement protect me from?
It prevents a route from completing only some of its swaps when the transaction reverts. It does not stop a hook from returning a misleading quote or from delivering less than expected in a transaction that still succeeds.
Why can a hook show one price during quoting and another at execution?
A hook can detect that a call is being simulated or quoted and take a different code path during the signed transaction. That behavior is why comparing only the displayed quote, without a strict execution limit, can be unsafe.
Can 0x’s percentages be treated as the failure rate for Uniswap Aggregator Hooks?
No. The figures describe 0x’s classification of 84,163 v4 hooks across six chains, not a measured failure rate for Uniswap’s seven adapters. The two populations overlap conceptually but are not the same deployment set.
