Turn Off Kraken Kitty V3 RGB: Synapse, Cosplay Mode, and Fixes for Lights That Return

On a Windows PC, the reliable way to turn off the Razer Kraken Kitty V3’s ears and earcup RGB is Razer Synapse 4 → Kraken Kitty V3 → Lighting → Brightness 0% (or the Luminosity/Brightness toggle Off). If the LEDs still flash, disable Streamer Companion alerts and Chroma Apps, because those can override a dimmed profile. Away from a computer, Cosplay Mode only cycles three onboard presets; Razer has not documented an off preset. To guarantee darkness at a convention, unplug the headset’s fixed USB-C cable or the power bank supplying it.

The V3 is a wired USB-C headset with no battery. That matters: removing USB power turns off the lighting, but also stops audio and microphone operation. The instructions below apply to the non-Pro, non-X Kraken Kitty V3 announced by Razer on 21 October 2026.

Which Kraken Kitty model do these instructions cover?

The Kraken Kitty V3 is the wired USB-C model. Razer lists no battery, so its RGB, audio and microphone all depend on USB power. The V3 Pro is a separate wireless product with different lighting labels, and the V3 X is a separate sibling whose 3.5 mm jack carries audio only. Do not use the first-generation Kraken Kitty Edition’s THX-button Cosplay Mode procedure on a V3.

Razer positions the V3 as a streaming and cosplay headset with RGB on the kitty ears and earcups, a HyperClear Cardioid Mic and 40 mm TriForce drivers. Razer announced it on 21 October 2026; HardwareZone described it on 26 October 2026 as the middle model between the V3 Pro and V3 X.

How do I turn off the Kraken Kitty V3 lights on a PC?

Use the device’s Lighting control in Synapse 4. Razer distinguishes this control from Chroma Studio: Lighting changes brightness and automatic shutoff, while Chroma Studio changes effects and colors. Razer Support Answer ID 1540 describes the distinction directly, and The Verge’s 2019 Chroma walkthrough likewise places the complete LED shutoff in the Lighting tab.

  1. Connect the fixed USB Type-C cable directly to the computer. The headset must enumerate as a Razer device. An analog-only connection cannot expose RGB controls; the 3.5 mm warning applies to the V3 X, not this V3.
  2. Open or install Razer Synapse 4. The current download hub is razer.com/synapse. Synapse 3 can still configure devices already installed locally, but Razer Support says it stopped receiving updates and cloud services on 3 February 2026.
  3. Select “Kraken Kitty V3” on the Synapse dashboard. Make sure you have selected the headset rather than a keyboard, mouse or another Chroma device.
  4. Open the “Lighting” tab. Do not rely on a black color in Chroma Studio; black static can still leave the LEDs powered.
  5. Set Brightness to 0%. Depending on the V3 firmware and Synapse interface, the same control may be labeled Brightness or Luminosity. If the interface offers an On/Off switch, set it to Off.
  6. Optionally enable automatic shutoff. “Switch Off Lighting” or “Turn Off Lighting” can extinguish the LEDs when the display turns off or after an idle period. The exact idle options are device-tab dependent; Razer documents a 1–15 minute range for some peripherals, so use only the choices shown for the headset.
  7. Leave any Quick Effect at zero brightness. Breathing, Spectrum Cycling, Static, Wave and similar effects cannot be seen when brightness is 0%. If the interface provides None or Off as an effect, selecting it is an additional safeguard, not a substitute for zero brightness.
  8. Save the profile if Synapse asks, then restart once. Confirm that the headset remains dark after Windows and Synapse reload.

Brightness 0% is the documented PC off state. It does not mute audio, disable the microphone or remove the headset from Windows; it only stops the LEDs from emitting light.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why do the kitty ears light up again after I set brightness to zero?

A second lighting source is usually taking control. Check these sources in order rather than repeatedly changing the color to black.

Streamer Companion alerts

Razer’s V3 product description says Streamer Companion can make the ears and earcups react to alerts, emotes and chat events. Open Streamer Companion and disable or pause the alert mappings, or quit Streamer Companion completely while you want a dark headset. A running alert profile can write a reactive effect after Synapse has loaded your zero-brightness profile.

Chroma Apps and game integrations

Supported games can claim the headset’s lighting. Razer advertises support for more than 300 Chroma-enabled games and devices. In Synapse, open the Chroma Apps or Chroma Connect area and turn off the global Chroma Apps switch, or disable “ENABLE THIS APP” for the individual game that is reactivating the ears. Razer Support Answer ID 1940 documents that path for Synapse 3; Synapse 4 uses the equivalent module even if its tab names differ.

Chroma Studio layers

Advanced Effects layers can continue assigning an effect to the headset. Remove or disable the layer that targets the Kraken Kitty V3. Painting the ears black is not equivalent to turning them off: the LEDs can remain powered and may still appear during a reactive override.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Windows Dynamic Lighting

Windows 11 includes a separate Dynamic Lighting page at Settings → Personalization → Dynamic Lighting. It is not normally the primary V3 control, but if Windows is listed as a controller, exclude the headset or disable Dynamic Lighting temporarily while diagnosing a conflict.

Profile and connection checks

  • Confirm that Synapse is controlling the V3 rather than a similarly named headset profile.
  • Reconnect the fixed USB-C cable and wait for the device to re-enumerate before changing the setting.
  • After a reboot, check Chroma Apps and Streamer Companion again; a game or streaming utility may start with Windows and reapply its effect.
  • If the headset is connected to a console, Mac or handheld, Synapse cannot apply the Windows profile there. Use the onboard presets or remove USB power instead.

How does Cosplay Mode work without Synapse?

Cosplay Mode is an onboard lighting mode for USB power sources. Razer’s product FAQ states: “When plugged into a USB power supply, the Razer Kraken Kitty V3 enters Cosplay Mode, letting you cycle through Chroma lighting presets using the multi-function button, with Static as the default effect.”

  1. Plug the fixed USB Type-C cable into a USB power source: a computer, console, phone charger or portable power bank.
  2. Allow the headset to enter Cosplay Mode. No Windows software is required for the onboard controls.
  3. Tap the multi-function (Chroma) button to cycle the three onboard presets. Static is the default effect.
  4. Stop on the color or effect you want. Razer has not published the names of all three presets or said that any one of them is a fully off state.

Razer’s newsroom describes “Three onboard lighting presets” for changing colors and effects on the go, and its product copy says: “Tap a button to cycle RGB presets, plug the fixed USB Type-C cable into a portable power bank, and keep your aesthetic glowing bright at conventions.” Neither statement documents a long-press gesture or an off preset for the V3.

How can I make Cosplay Mode completely dark?

Disconnect the USB power source. Unplug the power bank or USB supply from the fixed cable and the headset has no electrical power for its LEDs. This is the only guaranteed lights-off method away from a Synapse-equipped PC, but it also removes audio and microphone function. Runtime therefore depends entirely on the capacity of the power bank; the headset itself has no battery and Razer has published no LED wattage or power-bank runtime figure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which lights-off method should I use?

Method Best for Needs Documented off state? What happens after restart
Synapse Brightness 0% or Off Daily PC use, sleeping, camera-shy streams Windows PC, Synapse 4 and USB-C data connection Yes Usually remains in the saved device profile; an app can override it
Disable Chroma Apps and Streamer Companion Lights that return after dimming Synapse plus access to the app or game integration Yes, as a source-disable setting Needed when a game or alert utility starts again
Onboard Cosplay preset cycle Changing colors at a convention without a PC USB power and the multi-function Chroma button No official off preset The selected preset remains available while powered
Unplug USB-C or the power bank Guaranteed darkness anywhere Accepting that audio and microphone also stop Yes: no power means no LEDs Lights stay off until USB power is restored

What changes on Mac, PlayStation, Switch and Steam Deck?

Razer lists compatibility with PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch Lite and Steam Deck. Full Chroma customization, Streamer Companion and virtual 7.1 are the Windows/Synapse path. Razer has not published a Mac Synapse lighting guide for this specific V3.

  • Mac: treat the headset as USB audio with onboard Cosplay presets; use the multi-function button for preset changes and unplug USB to guarantee darkness.
  • PlayStation, Switch or Steam Deck: use the same onboard controls when USB power is available. There is no documented console-side equivalent of Synapse’s Brightness 0% control.
  • Windows 11: virtual 7.1 requires 64-bit Windows 11 or later and Synapse 4. This surround requirement is separate from RGB control.

Sidetone and microphone noise cancellation are off by default and are toggled in Synapse. Those settings affect what you hear and how the microphone processes sound; they do not switch off the kitty-ear RGB.

How do I avoid the wrong-model instructions?

Model Power and lighting path Cosplay or onboard behavior Do not apply to the V3
Kraken Kitty V3 Wired USB-C, no battery; Synapse 4 on Windows USB power plus multi-function button; three presets, Static by default Calling it wireless, using a THX-button hold, or claiming a 3.5 mm RGB connection
Kraken Kitty V3 Pro Separate wireless SKU; Synapse 4 Lighting tab Uses its own Luminosity and Turn Off Lighting labels Pasting Pro-only wireless steps onto the wired V3
Kraken Kitty V3 X USB powers RGB; 3.5 mm carries audio only Not the V3’s documented Cosplay Mode Plugging only the analog jack and expecting Synapse RGB control
Original Kraken Kitty Edition Older USB and Synapse 3 software stack Its Cosplay procedure held the THX Spatial Audio button while connecting a charger Repeating that THX hold for a V3

Razer Support’s warning for the V3 X is explicit: “The 3.5mm headphone jack only transmits audio signals and does not carry electrical power or data required to run RGB lighting.” The statement explains why an analog cable cannot be used as a lighting-control path on that sibling; the V3 itself uses USB-C.

What are the Kraken Kitty V3’s relevant specifications and price?

The following figures are Razer’s 2026 specifications unless another publisher is named. They help identify the correct headset and explain why USB power is central to the lighting instructions.

What should I check when the lights will not turn off?

  • Synapse does not show the headset: reconnect the fixed USB-C cable, try another USB port and wait for Windows to enumerate the device. A 3.5 mm-only connection cannot provide the V3’s lighting controls.
  • Brightness is already 0% but the ears flash: quit Streamer Companion, disable the relevant Chroma App and inspect Chroma Studio layers.
  • The lights return after launching a game: disable that game under Chroma Apps or turn off the global Chroma Apps switch.
  • The headset is dark but you also lost sound: USB power has been removed. Reconnect the cable, then use Synapse Brightness 0% if you need audio without light.
  • The three-button cycle never becomes dark: that is expected; Razer has not documented an off preset. Disconnect USB power for a guaranteed dark state.
  • Synapse 3 behaves differently: migrate to Synapse 4. Synapse 3 stopped updates and cloud services on 3 February 2026, although an existing local installation may still open.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep audio on while turning the RGB completely off?

Yes. On a Windows PC, leave the USB-C cable connected and set Brightness or Luminosity to 0% in Synapse 4. Only unplugging USB removes both the lighting and the headset’s audio and microphone power.

Does the V3 have a hidden long-press shortcut for darkness?

Razer’s published V3 material documents tapping the multi-function button to cycle three presets, with Static as the default. It does not document a long-press lights-off gesture, so do not assume the THX-button shortcut from the original Kitty Edition applies.

Will Synapse 3 stop working immediately?

Razer says Synapse 3 stopped receiving updates and cloud services on 3 February 2026. An already-installed copy may continue configuring local devices, but Synapse 4 is the supported choice for current V3 features and Windows 11 virtual 7.1.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can a USB power bank run the V3 all night at a convention?

The V3 has no internal battery, and Razer has published no LED wattage or runtime figure. Any operating time comes from the particular power bank’s capacity and output, so only the bank’s own specifications can estimate duration.
