If you want one clear recommendation, choose the EPOS H6PRO Closed acoustic gaming headset for isolated, concentrated game audio across PC and consoles. Choose the EPOS H6PRO Open when you play in a quiet room and prefer a wider presentation with environmental awareness. Choose the Drop + EPOS PC38X when you want an open-back design in a lighter 253 g chassis. Those are the three EPOS-family models for which current, specific official data is available here; EPOS has announced a wind-down of its gaming-headset portfolio, so two additional “top five” slots cannot be filled responsibly without current model pages and regional stock checks.
This guide compares the documented models by acoustic design, connection, microphone, weight, comfort features, platform support and likely use case. It also explains how to connect them, when an external GSX sound card matters, and how the portfolio wind-down changes what you should verify before buying.

Your room and playing priorities matter more than a universal ranking. Closed-back H6PRO is the safer choice when you need isolation from household noise or want game detail kept inside the ear cups. Open-back H6PRO and PC38X are better candidates for a natural, airy presentation and the ability to hear what is happening around you. Open designs also leak sound, so they are unsuitable when people nearby should not hear your game.
| Model | Acoustic design | Connection and cables | Microphone | Weight | Platform information |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EPOS H6PRO Closed | Closed, around-ear dynamic transducers; 42 mm drivers | Wired analog; PC and console cables | Detachable bidirectional microphone | 322 g (EPOS, 2022) | PC, Mac, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and devices with a 3.5 mm jack |
| EPOS H6PRO Open | Open acoustic, expansive soundstage | Analog wired; compatible with EPOS Gaming Suite through optional GSX sound cards | Detachable lift-to-mute boom microphone | Not stated in the cited EPOS fact sheet | Analog wired use; confirm the supplied cable and device connection before purchase |
| Drop + EPOS PC38X | Open acoustic, around-ear | Wired; 2.5 m PC cable and 2 m console cable | Fact sheet identifies a headset microphone; its removability is not stated in the cited specification | 253 g (Drop and EPOS, 2022) | PC, Mac, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and devices with a 3.5 mm jack |
Weight figures are manufacturer or partner specifications, not independent measurements. No laboratory latency, frequency-response, microphone, isolation or comfort test is established by the cited material, so the table does not turn design differences into claims about measured sound quality.

Why are there three documented recommendations instead of five?
EPOS support says the company is winding down its gaming-headset portfolio to focus on Enterprise Solutions. That makes a “top five” list based on old catalog pages risky: a model can be discontinued, region-limited or replaced while a retailer still shows an outdated listing.
The three entries above have identifiable fact sheets and concrete specifications. Two further EPOS models would need current official specification pages plus a retailer check for your country before they could be named as recommendations. Rather than inventing names, prices or rankings, this guide gives you a buying decision that remains useful while stock changes. Check the model identity, included cables, warranty terms and return policy at the time you order.
Is the EPOS H6PRO Closed best for isolation and competitive play?
It is the strongest documented fit when you need a closed acoustic design, detachable microphone and broad analog compatibility. “Best” here means best aligned with those requirements, not a claim that it outperforms every headset in an independent test.
What the H6PRO Closed specification says
- Closed, around-ear dynamic transducers with 42 mm drivers.
- 322 g listed weight (EPOS, 2022).
- Detachable bidirectional microphone.
- PC and console cables included according to the EPOS fact sheet.
- Compatibility listed for PC, Mac, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and devices with a 3.5 mm jack.
- Two-year international warranty listed on the 2022 fact sheet.
EPOS describes the closed construction as providing detail and focus with controlled, powerful audio. Treat that as the manufacturer’s design description, not as an independent listening result. Closed ear cups generally reduce outside sound reaching you and reduce game audio escaping into the room, which is useful in shared spaces. They also make it harder to hear a doorbell, conversation or your own surroundings.
How its fit features affect your decision
The H6PRO Closed uses memory-foam ear pads and a two-axis ear-cup hinge. Those are concrete fit features intended to help the pads conform and let the cups sit at different angles. The cited material does not establish long-session comfort for every head shape, glasses frame or climate, so use a retailer with a workable return policy if fit is uncertain.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
EPOS’s H6PRO/GSP 600 comparison says the closed H6PRO has a redesigned slimmer headband, a detachable magnetic microphone, a longer boom arm and an almost 20% lower weight than GSP 600. The “almost 20%” figure applies only to that official comparison; it should not be generalized to the Open model or PC38X.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Who should choose it?
- Shared-room players: closed cups are the logical starting point when household sound competes with the game.
- Chat users who sometimes want no boom: the microphone is detachable, so you can remove it when using a separate microphone or listening without a boom in view.
- Multi-platform owners: the listed PC, console and 3.5 mm support covers the major systems named on the fact sheet.
Is the EPOS H6PRO Open better for a wider soundstage?
Choose H6PRO Open when an open presentation and awareness of your room are more important than isolation. EPOS positions it for gamers who want to stay aware of their environment or play in quiet surroundings.
What open acoustic changes
The H6PRO Open’s open construction is described as producing an expansive, natural soundstage. Air can move more freely through an open ear cup, and outside sounds remain easier to hear. That can make a quiet-room single-player session feel less enclosed and can help you notice someone speaking nearby. It also means people in the room may hear your game, and room noise can mask subtle audio cues.
Microphone and software details
The boom microphone is detachable and uses lift-to-mute operation: raising it is the mute action described by EPOS. This is useful when you need a quick mute without reaching for a keyboard control, but the available specification does not provide independent microphone measurements.
H6PRO is an analog, plug-and-play headset. EPOS support states: “The H6PRO is a plug-and-play headset, meaning that it does not require any set-up or additional software.” If you want EPOS Gaming Suite features, the same support guidance points you toward an external USB sound card such as GSX 300 or GSX 1000 2nd Edition. The headset itself does not become a USB software device simply because you install the application; the compatible external hardware is the relevant part of that setup.

Who should choose it?
- Quiet-room players: open acoustics make the most sense when outside noise is already low.
- People who need room awareness: you can hear conversations and nearby alerts without removing the headset.
- Players considering a GSX sound card: the analog connection can be paired with compatible external EPOS hardware for Gaming Suite functions.
Is the Drop + EPOS PC38X the lightest documented open option?
At 253 g, the PC38X is 69 g lighter than the H6PRO Closed’s listed 322 g. It is the clearest documented choice when you want an open acoustic headset and place a high value on a lower listed weight.
What you get
- Wired open acoustic, around-ear design.
- 253 g listed weight (Drop and EPOS, 2022).
- 2.5 m PC cable and 2 m console cable.
- Compatibility listed for PC, Mac, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and 3.5 mm devices.
The longer PC and console cable lengths are useful planning details for a desk or television setup, but cable length does not guarantee that a particular controller, laptop or dock will expose the same jack. Check the physical connector arrangement in the retailer’s current package description before ordering.
How it differs from H6PRO Open
Both are open designs, so the same fundamental trade-off applies: a more expansive presentation and room awareness in exchange for sound leakage and less isolation. The available PC38X fact sheet establishes its 253 g weight and cable lengths; it does not provide a direct, controlled comparison with H6PRO Open for soundstage size, imaging, microphone quality or comfort. Pick between them on the documented practical differences—weight, cable arrangement and current availability—rather than assuming one is universally better.
Which design is better for competitive gaming?
There is no universal winner. Closed acoustics can help you concentrate when the room is noisy; open acoustics can help you remain aware of people and alerts around you. Neither design, by itself, proves lower latency or more accurate positional audio.
Recommended Free Tools
Choose closed when
- Air conditioning, conversation or a television is masking game sounds.
- You share a room and want less sound escaping from the headset.
- You prefer a more enclosed presentation and do not need to hear the room continuously.
Choose open when
- You play in a quiet room and dislike feeling sealed off.
- You need to hear a child, colleague, doorbell or other nearby signal.
- You accept that people nearby may hear the game.
For tournament or ranked play, also check the rules of the venue or event. A headset’s acoustic label does not establish whether a competition permits a particular microphone arrangement, cable length or external sound card.

How do you connect an EPOS headset to PC, PlayStation, Xbox or Switch?
All three documented models are wired, and the listed compatibility is based on analog connections. The exact socket location and adapter requirements depend on your device and the cable supplied with the current package.
- Identify the device connection. Check whether your PC uses separate headphone and microphone sockets, a combined headset jack, or an audio interface. Consoles and controllers commonly use a 3.5 mm headset connection, but confirm your specific hardware.
- Use the appropriate supplied cable. H6PRO Closed is listed with PC and console cables. PC38X lists a 2.5 m PC cable and a 2 m console cable. Do not assume a cable from another model has the same wiring.
- Connect before changing software. Because H6PRO is plug-and-play, begin with the operating system or console audio settings rather than installing software.
- Select the headset input and output. In the device’s sound settings, choose the connected headset for playback and microphone input. On a console, open the audio device or party-chat menu and confirm that the microphone indicator responds.
- Check mute controls. H6PRO Open uses lift-to-mute on its boom. H6PRO Closed’s microphone is detachable; use the platform’s mute control or the controller’s mute function when the boom is attached.
- Test with a voice recording or party chat. Listen for your own voice, cable movement and room noise before starting a match.
If a PC has separate microphone and headphone sockets but the supplied cable is designed for a combined jack, you may need a correctly wired splitter. The fact sheets do not specify every regional adapter, so verify the current box contents rather than buying a generic adapter blindly.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do you need EPOS Gaming Suite or a GSX sound card?
No for basic H6PRO operation. EPOS explicitly describes H6PRO as plug-and-play with no setup or additional software required.

External GSX hardware becomes relevant only if you want the EPOS Gaming Suite features associated with a compatible USB sound card. EPOS support names GSX 300 and GSX 1000 2nd Edition as examples to investigate. That is an optional signal-processing path, not a prerequisite for hearing audio or using chat through the analog headset connection.
Before buying a sound card, confirm that your computer has the required USB connection, that the software supports your operating-system version, and that the card’s output wiring matches the headset cable. The cited information does not establish a performance improvement, latency figure or microphone-quality gain from GSX hardware.

What should you verify before buying during the EPOS portfolio wind-down?
Availability and price can change faster than published product pages. Treat every retailer listing as a current-stock question, not proof that EPOS still manufactures the model.
- Exact model: distinguish H6PRO Closed from H6PRO Open and confirm that a PC38X listing is the Drop + EPOS version.
- Included cables: verify whether the listing contains the PC and console cables described in the fact sheet and whether lengths match your setup.
- Regional warranty: the H6PRO Closed fact sheet lists a two-year international warranty; confirm that the seller honors the applicable terms in your country.
- Return window: open designs leak sound and closed designs feel more enclosed, so a practical return option matters if you cannot try the fit.
- Condition: check whether the item is new, refurbished, open-box or old inventory.
- Replacement parts: verify compatibility before ordering ear pads, cables or microphones. Similar-looking parts are not automatically interchangeable.
What are the main trade-offs at a glance?
| If your priority is… | Start with… | Why | Watch for… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Isolation in a shared room | EPOS H6PRO Closed | Closed acoustic design, memory-foam pads, detachable microphone and broad listed platform support | 322 g listed weight and less awareness of the room |
| Open, natural presentation | EPOS H6PRO Open | Open acoustic design and expansive soundstage description | Sound leakage; weight is not stated in the cited fact sheet |
| Lower listed weight among the documented open models | Drop + EPOS PC38X | 253 g listed weight and separate 2.5 m PC and 2 m console cables | Open-back leakage and no documented independent comfort or microphone test |
| Software processing without a required setup | Any H6PRO model by itself | EPOS calls H6PRO plug-and-play | Gaming Suite requires compatible external GSX hardware |
What should you avoid assuming from a specification sheet?
A driver diameter, acoustic label or listed weight cannot answer every buying question. The available data does not establish frequency response, distortion, imaging accuracy, latency, microphone noise rejection, clamp force, pad temperature or durability under long-term use. Those characteristics require dated independent measurements or hands-on testing.
Likewise, broad platform compatibility means the model is listed for those systems; it does not promise identical chat controls, surround-processing options or firmware behavior on each one. Analog headsets usually inherit much of their behavior from the console, controller, sound card or operating system they are plugged into.
How should you make the final choice?
- Decide whether you need isolation. If yes, begin with H6PRO Closed. If no, compare the two open options.
- Set your room-awareness requirement. Choose open acoustics only if hearing the room is valuable and sound leakage is acceptable.
- Use weight as a filter, not a comfort verdict. PC38X is listed at 253 g and H6PRO Closed at 322 g, but headband shape, pad fit and your own sensitivity still matter.
- Map the cable to the device. Confirm whether you need a PC split connection, a combined 3.5 mm jack or an adapter.
- Choose microphone behavior. H6PRO Closed offers a detachable bidirectional mic; H6PRO Open offers a detachable lift-to-mute boom. The PC38X specification provided here does not establish removability.
- Check live stock and warranty. EPOS’s gaming-portfolio wind-down makes this step essential, especially for older listings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use an EPOS H6PRO headset without installing drivers?
Yes. EPOS describes H6PRO as plug-and-play, so basic playback and microphone use do not require additional software. EPOS Gaming Suite is an optional path that involves compatible external GSX sound-card hardware.
Will an open EPOS headset stop other people from hearing my game?
No. Open acoustic ear cups intentionally allow more sound to move in and out. They are best used where nearby sound leakage is acceptable.
Does the 253 g PC38X guarantee that it will feel more comfortable?
No. The 253 g figure is a listed product weight, not a comfort measurement. Head shape, glasses, pad contact and headband pressure can change how heavy a headset feels.
Is the H6PRO Closed warranty valid everywhere?
Its 2022 fact sheet lists a two-year international warranty. Confirm the seller’s current terms and the conditions that apply in your country before purchase.
Can I replace the microphone or cable with any EPOS part?
Do not assume cross-model compatibility. Confirm the exact H6PRO or PC38X model and the accessory’s stated fit before ordering a replacement.
