The October 27, 2026 quality-of-life update for The Sims 4 adds two separate body-change controls: Allow Weight Changes and Allow Muscle Changes. Use Game Options to set a rule across a save, or open Sim Options… → Sim Physique to change the rule for one Sim. The settings work independently, so you can stop weight changes while allowing muscle changes, or do the reverse.
These are gameplay permissions, not new Create-a-Sim sliders. Your normal CAS body-editing tools remain available, and the settings do not apply to pets such as Cats & Dogs or Horses.

The October 27, 2026 quality-of-life update adds permission controls for two kinds of gameplay-driven physique change. Allow Weight Changes governs whether a Sim can experience weight changes during play, while Allow Muscle Changes governs muscle changes. They are separate settings rather than one combined body switch.
The Sims Team describes the options as completely independent. That means you can leave weight changes active and turn muscle changes off, or leave muscle changes active and turn weight changes off. You can also leave both enabled, disable both, or use a save-wide rule and then manage an individual Sim through that Sim’s menu.

These controls decide whether later gameplay can change a physique. They are not a command to reshape a Sim immediately, and they do not erase a body change that has already happened. For a direct appearance edit, use Create-a-Sim instead.
How do I stop weight changes for the whole save?
Use the global control in Game Options when you want the same weight-change permission for Sims throughout the save.

- Find the new body-change settings.
- Locate Allow Weight Changes.
- Turn it off to block gameplay-driven weight changes, or leave it on to permit them.
- Check Allow Muscle Changes separately before closing the menu. Changing the weight setting does not automatically change the muscle setting.
This is the practical choice for a save in which you want one consistent rule. For example, if you are building a long-running legacy and do not want any Sim’s weight to change through gameplay, disable the weight permission once in Game Options instead of repeating an interaction for every character.
The control is a permission, not a body editor. A Sim’s current proportions remain available to edit in CAS, and the setting does not turn the Sim into a fixed preset or remove body customization.
How do I turn off muscle changes without turning off weight changes?
Muscle has its own global switch, so it can be disabled without changing the weight rule.
- Open Game Options.
- Go to the new body-change settings.
- Turn Allow Muscle Changes off.
- Leave Allow Weight Changes on if you still want gameplay to permit weight changes.
The reverse combination works too: leave muscle changes enabled and turn weight changes off. This independent behavior is the central difference between the new controls and a single “freeze physique” option. Before leaving the menu, inspect both labels so you know which permission is actually disabled.
How can I disable weight or muscle changes for just one Sim?
Use the selected Sim’s Sim Physique interaction when one character needs a different rule from the rest of the save.
- Select the Sim you want to manage in live gameplay.
- Open that Sim’s Sim Options… pie menu.
- Choose Sim Physique.
- Choose the individual interaction to disable weight changes or the individual interaction to disable muscle changes.
Because this menu belongs to the selected Sim, check the portrait or name before opening it. If several Sims are close together, selecting the wrong character is an easy mistake. Repeat the process for another Sim when a second character needs a different individual rule.
The per-Sim choices do not replace the global controls in Game Options. Game Options remains the place for a save-wide policy; Sim Options… → Sim Physique is the targeted route for one character. The October 27 update notes provide both levels but do not publish a universal precedence rule for every possible conflict between a global setting and an individual setting. If you combine them, make the individual adjustment deliberately and verify the result on the intended Sim.
Global versus per-Sim controls
The two locations solve different management problems. A global setting establishes a broad rule, while the physique interaction gives you a character-specific choice.

Use the global route when the same policy should apply broadly. Use the per-Sim route when most Sims should follow the normal rule but one character should not. For example, you can keep weight changes allowed globally and disable them for a single Sim whose physique you want to manage separately. You can also keep muscle changes enabled for the save and disable muscle changes for one selected Sim.

Both levels concern Sims only. They do not provide a matching control for animals, and the update notes specifically exclude pets.
Four useful global combinations
Allow both weight and muscle changes
Leave both switches enabled. This preserves the normal permission for gameplay-driven changes while still giving you access to the new controls later.
Stop weight changes but allow muscle changes
Turn Allow Weight Changes off and leave Allow Muscle Changes on. This is the direct answer to “How do I stop my Sims from gaining weight while still allowing muscle progression?”

Stop both types of change
Turn both switches off in Game Options. This establishes the broadest restriction described by the update, while direct CAS editing remains a separate activity.
Are these new Create-a-Sim sliders?
No. The new controls govern whether gameplay may change a Sim’s physique; they are not additional body-shaping sliders in CAS.
Electronic Arts’ The Sims 4 Create-A-Sim Game Screen manual says to select Body to make direct changes to a Sim’s physical appearance. It also explains that you can slide the weight and muscle panels up or down to adjust the Sim’s weight and muscle mass, and choose a preset body type. Those are direct editing tools. The October 27 settings are permissions that affect later gameplay, not replacement controls for those panels.

Do the settings affect pets?
No. The Sims Team’s October 27 update notes explicitly say that these options do not extend to pets such as The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs animals or Horses. The controls described here are for Sims, so changing a global body setting should not be presented as a pet-physique feature.
Where are the new body toggles?
For a save-wide rule, open Game Options and find the body-change settings. The labels to look for are Allow Weight Changes and Allow Muscle Changes.
For one character, select the Sim in live gameplay, open Sim Options…, choose Sim Physique, and then choose the specific disable interaction. These are different menu paths with different scopes, so opening CAS or clicking another Sim’s portrait will not show the same controls.

If you are answering the question “Are the new body settings global or per Sim?”, the accurate answer is both. Game Options provides the global level; Sim Options… → Sim Physique provides the individual level.
What should I do if the settings are missing?
The feature was added in the October 27, 2026 quality-of-life update. First verify that the game has installed that update or a later one by checking EA’s current The Sims 4 news index.
- Confirm that the game is on the October 27, 2026 update or later.
- Open Game Options and look specifically for Allow Weight Changes and Allow Muscle Changes.
- For an individual Sim, select that Sim first, then use Sim Options… → Sim Physique.
- If you are looking in Create-a-Sim for new sliders, leave CAS and use the gameplay menus instead.
- If you expected a pet control, note that the update excludes pets such as Cats & Dogs and Horses.
The update notes describe a broader batch of more than 150 bug fixes, but that number refers to the whole patch and does not measure use or effectiveness of the body toggles.
Do I need a mod, custom content, or special hardware?
No. The feature is native to The Sims 4. You do not need a mod, custom content, a separate utility, a strategy guide, a physical game copy, or a special controller or mouse to open these menus. EA describes mods as optional player-made additions, warns that it does not pre-screen or endorse them, and notes that mods are unavailable on PlayStation and Xbox. Installing a mod is therefore not a prerequisite for disabling weight or muscle changes.
The only practical requirement established for these controls is an installed game update that includes the October 27, 2026 feature. If the labels are absent after updating, recheck the menu location and the selected Sim before assuming an add-on is required.
Common mistakes and limitations
Confusing a permission with an edit
Turning off a change permission is not the same as dragging a CAS slider. The toggles regulate whether gameplay-driven changes are allowed; CAS remains the place for direct body editing.
Changing only one of the two switches
Because the settings are independent, disabling weight does not disable muscle, and disabling muscle does not disable weight. Always review both labels when setting a global policy.
Using the wrong scope
Game Options affects the save-wide rule. Sim Physique affects the selected Sim. If you want one character protected while everyone else follows the normal rule, do not assume the global menu is a per-Sim tool.

The individual interaction is attached to the selected character. Check the Sim’s name or portrait before opening Sim Options… so you do not change a nearby household member by mistake.
Expecting pet coverage
The update explicitly excludes pets. These settings should not be described as controls for Cats & Dogs or Horses.
Looking for a published usage statistic
No published statistic establishes how many players use the toggles or what gameplay outcomes they produce. Treat the feature as a menu-level permission, not as a system with a documented adoption rate or guaranteed gameplay result.

Stop all weight changes but keep muscle progression available
In Game Options, turn off Allow Weight Changes and leave Allow Muscle Changes on. This applies the combination across the save.
Freeze muscle changes for every Sim but allow weight changes
Turn off Allow Muscle Changes and leave Allow Weight Changes on in Game Options.
Protect one Sim while leaving the save’s normal rules intact
Select the Sim, open Sim Options…, choose Sim Physique, and disable only the change you want to block for that character.
Give the whole save one consistent rule
Use Game Options rather than editing each Sim individually. This avoids repeating the same interaction for every character.
Keep direct control over appearance
Use Create-a-Sim’s Body controls for immediate reshaping, then use the new permissions if you also want to govern future gameplay-driven changes. These two jobs remain separate.
