The game never reaches online services
Capture the exact on-screen wording and the time it appeared. The phrase “unexpected error while contacting a Red Barrels service” appears in community reports, but it is user-reported wording, not a confirmed Switch 2 error code or an official diagnosis. Do not assign a cause from that sentence alone.
Check whether another online application on the same connection works. If other services also fail, the local network or internet connection deserves attention; if they work while the game alone fails, preserve the game details for Red Barrels support. Neither result proves a server outage.

Preserve the activity name, the point at which the disconnect occurred and any resulting save message.
