There is no verified universal “best” preset for The Division 2. On PC, start with your display’s native resolution, run the in-game benchmark, then change one graphics option at a time and keep changes that improve your own results without making the image harder to read. For controls and accessibility, choose options for your platform, comfort, and visibility rather than copying an unverified competitive setup.

How should I set up The Division 2 graphics on PC?

Set a clear target first: the resolution you want to play at and a frame rate your computer can sustain. Ubisoft documents adjustable display resolution and uncapped frame rate on PC, along with widescreen, variable-refresh-rate, and HDR support. Those are game capabilities, not a guarantee that every monitor, cable, graphics card, or operating-system configuration supports every feature. A 4K-capable menu option does not mean a particular graphics card will deliver a smooth 4K image.

Ubisoft’s PC feature and specification notes date from 2019, so use them as documented capabilities and historical guidance—not as proof that every detail is unchanged in the current build.

  1. Choose your baseline. Select your display’s native resolution for a clear image. Confirm that Windows and the game are using the same intended display when more than one monitor is connected. If performance is inadequate, test resolution scale next; lowering it may trade image clarity for rendering performance. The game’s current menu labels and available values can vary by build, so check what your installation actually shows.
  2. Set a practical frame-rate goal. You can leave the frame rate uncapped, but a custom limit may be useful if you are seeking steadier pacing or want to keep output within a display’s refresh range. There is no verified cap that is best for every monitor, so compare the options on your own system instead of copying a number from another setup.
  3. Run the benchmark. An archived Ubisoft staff walkthrough places it at Settings > Benchmark. The tool displays results and can provide a CSV and screenshot. Compare runs on the same machine and route so that a change—not a different test—is the main variable. Menu names may have changed since the archived walkthrough. The archived Ubisoft staff troubleshooting and settings post describes the benchmark and graphics controls.
  4. Change one setting per run. Record the starting result, alter one setting, then benchmark again. Keep the change only if its performance effect is worthwhile to you and the visual trade-off is acceptable. Avoid treating a single run as a guarantee of performance in every scene; a benchmark is a repeatable comparison tool, not a promise about every firefight or crowded area.
  5. Check image legibility as well as the result. A setting that improves a benchmark number may still make combat or navigation less comfortable. If you notice distracting blur, visual clutter, missing distant detail, or loss of useful shading, restore the previous setting and test a different option.

Which graphics options should I test first?

Ubisoft staff identified the following as potentially consequential performance options. The list is not ranked, and it does not establish a universal FPS gain or ideal Low, Medium, or High value for each one. Test them separately so you know what each change actually does on your PC.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Resolution scale: Test after establishing native resolution. It directly affects the rendering resolution relative to the display setting, so assess both performance and clarity. If text, distant enemies, or environmental edges become too soft, the trade-off may not suit you even if the benchmark result improves.
  • Volumetric fog: Change this independently and inspect scenes with heavy atmosphere. Keep a lower value only when the visual reduction is acceptable for the performance consistency you need.
  • Ambient occlusion: Compare contact shading around objects and characters as well as the benchmark result. Do not assume that a setting’s cost or benefit will match a preset made for another GPU.
  • Object detail: Test whether reducing scene detail affects the objects and distance cues you rely on. A measured change is meaningful only when the resulting image remains readable during play.
  • Particle detail: Use a separate run to see how effects-heavy scenes respond. Compare the same benchmark conditions rather than judging from one unusually quiet or busy mission area.
  • High-resolution sky textures: Treat this as a separate visual-quality trade-off rather than assuming it has the same cost on every machine. Look at the sky and large outdoor views after each change.
  • Anisotropic filtering: Include it in a controlled comparison if you are tuning graphics quality. Check ground and surface texture clarity at an angle, and do not assume an internet preset will match your hardware or preferences.
  • Custom FPS limit and reduced latency: Try these when seeking steadier pacing or more responsive input, then compare benchmark output and how the game feels. Neither setting is a guaranteed cure for stutter, and no particular frame cap is established as best for every display.

Ubisoft’s staff post identifies these as candidates to investigate, not as independently measured settings recommendations. It does not provide verified percentage gains for the current build. Keep notes on what you change so that you can undo a setting if its visual cost, latency behavior, or stability outweighs its benefit.

What did Ubisoft’s older PC performance tiers specify?

Ubisoft’s 2019 PC specifications published these target tiers and GPU examples. They are historical publisher specifications—not current benchmark results, guarantees for a particular computer, or present-day GPU buying advice. The listed APIs describe Ubisoft’s tier guidance, not proof that one API will outperform another on your system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Ubisoft target (2019) GPU examples listed by Ubisoft API guidance in Ubisoft’s 2019 specifications
1080p at 30 FPS R9 280X or GTX 780 DirectX 11 or 12 at lower PC tiers
1080p at 60 FPS RX 480 or GTX 970 DirectX 11 or 12 at lower PC tiers
1440p at 60 FPS RX Vega 56 or GTX 1070 DirectX 12 at this tier
4K at 60 FPS Radeon VII or RTX 2080 Ti DirectX 12 at this tier

The figures above are targets and examples published by Ubisoft in 2019, not measurements of current hardware. The original Ubisoft specification page is the source for the tier figures and API guidance. Do not use those old GPU names as a shopping list; a modern card, driver, CPU, memory configuration, and display can produce a different result.

Should I use DirectX 11 or DirectX 12?

Neither API can be called the universal winner from the available game-specific evidence. Ubisoft’s 2019 specification tiers mention DirectX 11 or 12 for lower tiers and DirectX 12 for its 1440p and 4K tiers, but those recommendations do not establish which mode is faster or more stable on a current PC.

If your installation offers both modes, compare them on your machine using the same benchmark route and graphics settings. Record not only the headline frame rate but also whether the run is stable, whether frame pacing feels consistent, and whether the game launches and plays without errors. Keep the mode that produces the more dependable result for your setup; if one causes instability or worse pacing, return to the other. Avoid interpreting the old tier table as a current performance comparison.

Windows 11 also has an optional setting for windowed-game optimizations for eligible DirectX 10 and 11 games in windowed or borderless mode. It is configured under System > Display > Graphics. Microsoft describes this as an operating-system feature, not a proven The Division 2 performance fix or a recommendation to use DirectX 12. See Microsoft’s explanation of windowed-game optimizations before trying it. Treat the toggle as an experiment: change it, test the same scenario, and revert it if nothing improves or if behavior becomes less reliable.

How do I enable HDR and variable refresh rate?

HDR requires an HDR-capable screen. Ubisoft Help points to HDR controls in Settings > Video, including HDR Peak Brightness and HDR Peak Brightness for UI Elements. Adjust those controls to suit your display and viewing preference rather than relying on a brightness number that has not been established for your screen.

HDR support is not the same as a guarantee that the feature will be available on every display or connection. If the controls are absent or the image does not look right, confirm that HDR is enabled where required in the operating system or display menu, verify the cable and input support HDR, and check the current game menu and display configuration. If the screen is not HDR-capable, changing a game slider cannot create HDR output.

Ubisoft’s PC feature notes also document variable-refresh-rate support. VRR still depends on a compatible monitor, connection, graphics driver, and operating-system setup. It is not a reason to buy a new display solely for ordinary settings work. A compatible HDR variable-refresh-rate gaming monitor is an optional hardware category for someone already planning a display upgrade, not a requirement for following this guide. Ubisoft’s HDR guidance is available through its Help pages, though the specific HDR controls described here are not detailed in the indexed excerpt.

Which controller and gameplay settings should I choose?

Choose a controller based on platform, official support, and the hand feel that works for you. There is no verified basis here for claiming that one supported controller provides better aim assist, lower latency, or a competitive advantage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Input What Ubisoft lists for PC Practical consideration
Xbox Wireless Controller Supported A straightforward choice when you prefer the Xbox layout and wireless ecosystem.
Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Supported Useful to compare if you want its particular hand feel or controls; support does not guarantee a performance advantage.
DualSense Supported Check how the installed PC version presents prompts and features on your connection.
DualShock 4 Supported Confirm the game and launcher recognize it correctly before changing other variables.
Keyboard and mouse Supported Use it when that input method is more comfortable; no sensitivity number is universally correct.

The supported list may differ by platform, so check Ubisoft’s supported peripherals guidance for your setup. Ubisoft’s wording is clear: “Other controllers may work, however, they are not officially supported and may require third party software to work.” An unlisted pad can therefore be usable without being a guaranteed plug-and-play option. If you are buying specifically for this game, an Xbox Wireless Controller is the simplest supported category to start comparing; the Elite Series 2 and DualSense are also listed options. A purchase is optional, and support alone does not establish that any model improves aim.

How do I turn on aim assist or vibration?

An archived Ubisoft staff accessibility post places Aim Assist and Gamepad Vibration under Controls. Ubisoft staff stated that aim assist is available in the game, but archived directions are not proof that today’s menu uses identical labels or paths. Open the installed build’s Controls menu, look for those entries, and test each change in a low-pressure activity before deciding what feels comfortable.

Aim assist, vibration, and sensitivity solve different problems. Aim assist changes the game’s assistance behavior, vibration changes physical feedback, and sensitivity changes how far the reticle moves for an input. Because preferences, input devices, and play styles differ, there is no verified universal sensitivity value or competitive configuration to copy. Make small changes and keep a note of the previous value so you can reverse an uncomfortable adjustment.

Which accessibility options can improve readability?

The archived Ubisoft staff instructions place subtitles and subtitle customization under Language, and colorblind modes and High Contrast UI under Accessibility. The named color-vision options are deuteranopia, tritanopia, and protanopia. These settings address different needs: subtitles help with dialogue access, colorblind modes adapt color presentation, and high-contrast UI changes interface legibility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Try the relevant option and assess it in your own play environment. Check mission objectives, loot markers, teammate indicators, and the map rather than judging from a quiet menu alone. No single choice is appropriate for every player, and a color filter intended for one form of color-vision deficiency may make another player’s display less clear. Because the instructions are archived, verify the current labels and locations before relying on an exact click path.

Why is my controller input scrambled on Steam?

If button prompts or controller input do not match your device, first confirm which input the game and Steam are recognizing, then check the game’s current controller options. Disconnecting extra pads, reconnecting the intended controller, and checking the launcher’s selected input can help isolate whether the problem is device selection or an in-game setting, but do not assume any one step is a guaranteed fix.

For Steam players whose inputs remain scrambled after initial troubleshooting, Ubisoft developer Ubi-WheelyDuck suggested trying Steam Big Picture and Steam Input in a February 26, 2025 support reply. That is a troubleshooting suggestion, not a guarantee of a fix. The Steam support discussion contains the reply.

Prefer documented support guidance over copying a community user’s configuration-file edits. Unofficial changes may behave differently across controllers, Steam settings, or game updates, and the available support reply does not endorse a particular file edit. If Steam Input changes the prompts or behavior, test one mode at a time and retain the mode that consistently maps your buttons.

Do PC graphics settings apply to PlayStation or Xbox?

Do not assume that PC graphics controls or this benchmark procedure map directly to console menus. The cited benchmark walkthrough and graphics options are PC-focused, while Ubisoft’s peripheral guidance distinguishes supported controllers by platform. For console play, use the settings actually available in that version and consult platform-specific Ubisoft guidance rather than copying a PC graphics checklist.

The game-specific sources cited here do not verify current availability of DLSS, FSR, XeSS, ray tracing, or frame generation. Do not plan a settings change around one of those options unless it appears in your installed version and is confirmed for that build. The same caution applies to screenshots or videos showing menu entries from a different platform or an older update.

How to build a settings profile without guessing

A repeatable process is more useful than a preset whose hardware and display conditions do not match yours. Use this sequence when you are tuning image quality, troubleshooting performance, or checking whether a setting is worth its cost:

  1. Write down your goal. Note the resolution you want and the frame-rate target you are trying to sustain. Keep visual priorities—such as readable detail, preferred effects, or HDR— in view as well.
  2. Check prerequisites. Confirm the display’s native resolution, HDR capability if relevant, VRR capability if relevant, and the input device you intend to use. This prevents you from troubleshooting a missing feature that the screen or platform cannot provide.
  3. Record the starting configuration. Capture the graphics options and benchmark result before making changes. Ubisoft’s archived walkthrough says the benchmark can provide a CSV and screenshot, which can make comparisons easier. Keep the files or a short written log with the date and graphics API used.
  4. Change one option. Start with resolution scale if performance is the main concern, then test the other options Ubisoft staff identified one by one. Do not change several settings between runs if you want to know which change mattered.
  5. Repeat the same comparison. Keep the same benchmark route, API, display mode, and other settings. Compare the output, then check the image for changes that matter to your play. If results vary unexpectedly, repeat the run before drawing a conclusion.
  6. Keep, revert, or investigate. Keep changes whose measured result and visual trade-off suit you. Restore a setting if it worsens image quality, causes instability, or produces a less dependable experience. Try reduced latency or a frame limit as separate experiments rather than assuming either is a universal fix.
  7. Save a known-good baseline. Once the setup is comfortable and stable, retain a record of it. That makes it easier to undo future changes or separate a settings issue from a controller or display problem.

This method does not promise a particular FPS improvement. No independently verified current-build uplift, optimal sensitivity number, or cross-GPU preset is established by the cited sources. Likewise, DirectX mode, a frame limit, reduced latency, HDR, and VRR should be treated as options to compare—not guaranteed fixes or mandatory purchases.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sensitivity should I use for aiming in The Division 2?

There is no verified universal sensitivity number for the game. Start from the setting you can control comfortably, make small adjustments, and judge them in the situations where you actually aim; avoid copying a number without knowing the other player’s input and preferences.

Can I use a controller that is not on Ubisoft’s supported list?

It may work, but Ubisoft says unsupported controllers are not officially supported and may require third-party software. Compatibility can depend on both the controller and the platform, so an unlisted device should not be treated as a guaranteed plug-and-play option.

Does HDR require a new monitor to change the game’s settings?

The prerequisite is an HDR-capable screen; a purchase is not implied if your existing display already supports HDR. Check the display’s own HDR capability and the game’s available video controls before deciding whether any hardware change is necessary.

Is DirectX 12 faster than DirectX 11 in The Division 2?

Ubisoft’s 2019 specifications mention both APIs at lower tiers and DirectX 12 at its 1440p and 4K tiers, but that does not prove a current performance winner. If both modes are available, benchmark them on the same PC and keep the more stable result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where is The Division 2 benchmark?

An archived Ubisoft staff walkthrough places it under Settings > Benchmark. The tool displays results and can provide a CSV and screenshot. Menu labels may differ in your installed build, so confirm the current path in the game.

What should I lower first for better performance?

Ubisoft staff identifies resolution scale, volumetric fog, ambient occlusion, object detail, particle detail, high-resolution sky textures, anisotropic filtering, the frame limiter, and reduced latency as options worth testing. No universal ranking or FPS gain was established; change one at a time and keep only acceptable trade-offs.

How do I fix scrambled controller buttons on Steam?

Check which device Steam and the game recognize, then test the current controller options. In a February 26, 2025 support reply, Ubisoft developer Ubi-WheelyDuck suggested Steam Big Picture and Steam Input for persistent problems. It is a troubleshooting suggestion, not a guaranteed fix.

Does The Division 2 support DLSS, FSR, XeSS, ray tracing, or frame generation?

The game-specific material cited here does not verify current availability of those options. Use only a toggle that appears in your installed version and is confirmed for that build; do not add one to a settings plan based on an unrelated guide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which accessibility settings help with color visibility and subtitles?

Archived Ubisoft staff instructions place subtitles and subtitle customization under Language, and High Contrast UI plus deuteranopia, tritanopia, and protanopia choices under Accessibility. Try the option that matches your needs and verify the current menu labels in your build.

The Bottom Line

Use native resolution as your clarity baseline, benchmark before and after every single change, and test DirectX modes, frame limits, and reduced latency instead of assuming a universal winner. Choose a controller Ubisoft lists for your platform, enable HDR only with a compatible display, and use aim-assist, subtitle, color, and contrast options according to your own comfort and visibility needs.
