Waystone’s Guidance is the best Alchemy card to craft in late 2026, based on Wizards of the Coast calling it perhaps the format’s strongest and most polarizing card and noting that it appeared in almost every aggressive white deck. Kona, Rescue Beastie is the next strongest investment because Wizards reported that the Kona archetype had the highest win rate among the ten most popular Best-of-One Alchemy archetypes in its February 2026 analysis.
This ranking is for MTG Arena players deciding how to spend wildcards before Alchemy retires on February 2, 2027. The cards remain usable in Historic, Timeless, Brawl and Competitive Brawl, so a card’s value after retirement matters as much as its remaining Alchemy power.

What are the 10 best Alchemy cards right now?
The list below combines Wizards’ statements about win rate, popularity, balance changes and deck centrality with the late-October 2026 metagame. It is an editorial ranking, not an official Wizards top-ten list.
| Rank | Card | Deck role | Official evidence | Shell dependence | Post-Alchemy value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Waystone’s Guidance | Aggressive white threat engine | Wizards called it “perhaps the strongest and most polarizing card in Alchemy” and said it appeared in almost every aggressive white deck. | Medium | Depends on Historic, Timeless or Brawl support for its white shell. |
| 2 | Kona, Rescue Beastie | Planet/Omniscience combo payoff | Wizards said the Kona archetype had “by far the highest win rate” among the ten most popular Best-of-One Alchemy archetypes in February 2026. | High | Strongest in formats where the combo remains legal and competitive. |
| 3 | Summitfest Closing Ceremony | Blue-red engine and finisher | Named by Wizards in the October 2026 Banned and Restricted announcement as part of a still-strong, popular blue-red deck. | High | Primarily valuable in blue-red digital shells. |
| 4 | Tablet of Discovery | Blue-red card-advantage engine | Wizards identified it alongside Summitfest Closing Ceremony in the same strong late-2026 shell. | High | Best where the supporting blue-red strategy survives. |
| 5 | Golden Sidekick | White-black Bats centerpiece | Wizards said White-Black Bats was the most popular deck across ladder levels after Golden Sidekick arrived. | High | Useful mainly in Bats or adjacent sacrifice and lifegain decks. |
| 6 | Sanguine Soothsayer | Bats resilience and lifegain | Wizards buffed it to add resilience to the popular Bats strategy, describing that deck as distinctive and life-gain oriented. | High | Limited outside Bats-style shells. |
| 7 | Mardu Thunderkite | Large pressure threat | Wizards described it as strong by itself and especially brutal when cast through Three Tree Battalion. | Medium-high | Most attractive in Mardu or Battalion builds. |
| 8 | Charged Conjuration | Storm mana and payoff | The February 2026 rebalance made it cheaper; Wizards describes it as both mana generation and a payoff. | Very high | Mostly a Storm-specific craft. |
| 9 | Tempest Trapper | Storm mana creature and payoff | It received a cost reduction and body adjustment in the same Storm-focused rebalance. | Very high | Little reason to craft without a Storm list. |
| 10 | Polterheist | Heist threat | Wizards increased its body and changed its ward payment after the Heist deck receded, explicitly trying to make it playable. | High | Dependent on a future Heist-supporting environment. |
Why is Waystone’s Guidance ranked first?
Waystone’s Guidance has the clearest direct superlative from Wizards. Its Mobilize pressure can turn a modest board into an escalating threat, and its broad adoption across aggressive white decks means it is not merely a niche combo component. Craft it first if you want a card that can anchor more than one aggressive white build before the format closes.

Is Kona, Rescue Beastie worth crafting before Alchemy ends?
Kona is the highest-upside craft for players who specifically enjoy the Planet/Omniscience combo. The deck combines Kona with Brood Astronomer and Formidable Speaker, giving it both a payoff and ways to assemble the plan. Wizards’ February 2026 analysis found the archetype had by far the highest win rate among the ten most popular Best-of-One Alchemy archetypes, but that strength comes with a high shell commitment: Kona is a poor wildcard purchase if you do not already intend to build the surrounding combo.
Which cards define the late-2026 blue-red deck?
Summitfest Closing Ceremony and Tablet of Discovery are the two clearest blue-red anchors. Wizards’ October 2026 Banned and Restricted announcement said blue-red decks built around them continued to show strength and popularity. The pair therefore outranks individually powerful cards whose decks have less current evidence, but both are narrow crafts because their value is tied to that specific engine.

How good is the White-Black Bats package?
Golden Sidekick and Sanguine Soothsayer should be evaluated together. Wizards reported that White-Black Bats became the most popular deck across ladder levels after Golden Sidekick arrived. Sanguine Soothsayer was then buffed to improve the strategy’s resilience and reinforce its life-gain identity. Craft Golden Sidekick first when building Bats; add Soothsayer when you have the rest of the deck and need the matchup-stabilizing role.
What makes Mardu Thunderkite different from the combo cards?
Mardu Thunderkite does not require a long setup to be threatening. Wizards called it strong on its own and especially punishing when cast through Three Tree Battalion, so its ranking rests on a concrete two-card pressure pattern rather than a broad popularity statistic. It is a better craft for players who already own Mardu staples or Three Tree Battalion than for someone seeking a flexible, colorless inclusion.

Which cards were improved for Storm and Heist?
Charged Conjuration and Tempest Trapper
Both cards benefited from the February 2026 Storm rebalance. Charged Conjuration became cheaper and functions as both mana generation and a payoff. Tempest Trapper received a cost reduction and a body adjustment, giving Storm another card that advances the mana plan while contributing to the finish. Neither is a sensible first wildcard for a general collection: their value is almost entirely archetype-specific.
Polterheist
Polterheist received a larger body and a changed ward payment after the Heist deck had receded. Wizards’ stated goal was to make it playable rather than weak. That is meaningful evidence of intended role, but not proof that Heist is currently a top-tier choice, so rank it as a tenth-place, metagame-dependent craft.

How should you spend wildcards with Alchemy retiring?
Alchemy is an Arena-only format built around digital-only and rebalanced cards. With the format scheduled to disappear on February 2, 2027, prioritize cards that either win immediately in a deck you will play now or retain a role in another Arena format.
- Choose your deck first. Kona, Bats, blue-red, Storm and Heist cards are poor standalone purchases.
- Spend rare or mythic wildcards on the highest-centrality cards. Waystone’s Guidance, Golden Sidekick and Summitfest Closing Ceremony are the most defensible starting points for their respective shells.
- Check your post-retirement plan. Digital-only Alchemy cards remain legal in Historic, Timeless, Brawl and Competitive Brawl, but legality does not guarantee that a card will remain competitive.
- Prefer complete playsets only after testing the shell. Use temporary events or available copies to confirm that you enjoy the deck before committing scarce wildcards.
What was the late-2026 Alchemy metagame?
MTGDecks’ October 27, 2026 snapshot listed Rogue at 76.67%, Izzet Lessons at 8.33% and Red Deck Wins at 6.67%. Those figures are a dated snapshot, not a prediction: Alchemy was still being managed and is scheduled for retirement, so rankings and legality should be checked again when you craft.

What changes when Alchemy retires?
Wizards has announced that Alchemy will be retired on February 2, 2027, with Alchemy: Reality Fracture planned as the final Alchemy release. The cards do not disappear from Arena; digital-only cards remain available in Historic, Timeless, Brawl and Competitive Brawl. That makes post-Alchemy format fit the key test for any wildcard decision, especially for the narrow Storm, Heist and combo cards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Alchemy cards in Historic after February 2027?
Yes. Wizards has said digital-only Alchemy cards remain legal in Historic, Timeless, Brawl and Competitive Brawl after the Alchemy format is removed. Check each format’s deck-construction rules because legality and competitive usefulness are separate questions.
Should I craft Alchemy cards with rare or mythic wildcards?
Craft only after choosing a complete deck, because most of the ranked cards are tied to one shell. If you want the broadest immediate option, start with the card that supports the white aggressive deck you actually intend to play rather than collecting isolated staples.
What is the safest ranked card for a player who dislikes combo decks?
Waystone’s Guidance is the least dependent on a specialized combo because its evidence comes from widespread use in aggressive white decks. Mardu Thunderkite is another practical option when you already have the Mardu and Three Tree Battalion cards.
Will Alchemy: Reality Fracture cards be legal in the retired format?
Alchemy: Reality Fracture is planned as the final Alchemy release, but the format itself is scheduled for retirement on February 2, 2027. The relevant long-term question will be which other Arena formats accept those digital cards, not whether new Alchemy events continue.
