Yes— the Sunbeam Alinea KE2700W is a sensible everyday kettle if you want a full-size 1.7-litre jug, fast high-power heating and straightforward safety features. Its 2400W concealed element, cordless 360-degree base, water-level window, removable scale filter and three-way protection cover the essentials for tea, coffee and instant meals. The trade-off is control: the cited specifications do not include variable-temperature settings, so it cannot hold or select a lower temperature for green tea, coffee brewing or baby formula. In Australia, its reference price is AUD $139, although retailer snapshots have shown lower sale prices. This review explains what the KE2700W offers, how it compares with the needs of different households, and what to check before buying.
Is the Sunbeam Alinea KE2700W worth buying?
The KE2700W is worth considering when you need a conventional, large-capacity Australian electric kettle rather than a temperature-controlled appliance. It combines a 1.7L stainless-steel body with 2400W heating, a concealed element, a removable limescale filter and a 360-degree rotational base. Those features suit a family kitchen or anyone who boils several cups at once.

It is less compelling for a single-cup user who wants a very small minimum fill, or for anyone who regularly needs precise temperatures. Sunbeam’s guide requires at least 0.50L of water, and the published specifications describe boil-only operation. You can stop the kettle manually before boiling, but there is no stated 80°C, 90°C or keep-warm program.
The practical verdict is therefore straightforward: buy it for capacity, simple operation and layered safety; choose another model if temperature selection, a smaller minimum volume or specialist brewing control is your priority.

What are the Sunbeam Alinea KE2700W’s specifications?
These are the published specifications for the Australian KE2700W, including the manufacturer’s measurements and the independent specification record from CHOICE.
| Specification | Published value | What it means in use |
|---|---|---|
| Model | KE2700W, Alinea Collection | The W variant is the Ocean Mist/matte-white finish identified by Sunbeam. |
| Capacity | 1.7L | A full jug for several mugs; Bunnings says this is up to seven cups. |
| Power | 2400W on Sunbeam’s page; CHOICE records 2000–2400W | High kettle power intended to reduce heating time, although no measured boil-time result is published here. |
| Construction | Stainless steel | Durable kettle body with a concealed heating element. |
| Dimensions | 240 x 170 x 225mm | Check these figures against the space beneath cupboards and beside other appliances. |
| Cord | 900mm (Sunbeam); 91cm in CHOICE’s test record | The base stores excess cable, but the outlet still needs to be within reach. |
| Base | Cordless, 360-degree rotation with cord storage | You can lift the jug from any angle and pour without a cable attached to the body. |
| Water visibility | External water-level window | Lets you check the fill before switching on. |
| Filter | Removable limescale filter | Captures scale particles at the spout and can be removed for cleaning. |
| Safety | Automatic shutoff, boil-dry cut-out and overheating shutdown | Three separate protections cover normal boiling, an empty start and excessive heat. |
| Warranty | 12-month replacement warranty / one year | The stated term is one year; keep proof of purchase and follow the seller’s return process. |
The specifications do not state a keep-warm function, temperature presets, a quietness rating, a detachable lid, or a measured boil time. Those omissions matter if you are comparing the KE2700W with speciality kettles rather than like-for-like boil kettles.

How much water can it boil, and what is the minimum fill?
The jug holds 1.7L at the maximum mark. Bunnings describes that volume as enough for up to seven cups, although cup size varies; a large mug will produce fewer servings. The official guide sets a minimum fill of 0.50L. Always keep the water between those marks rather than relying on the jug’s physical capacity.
For one person
Half a litre is more water than many single drinks require. If you only make one 250–350ml mug, you will either need to boil extra water or choose a kettle whose minimum line is lower. Boiling only what you need saves time and energy, so the KE2700W’s minimum line is an important fit issue for solo use.
For a household
The 1.7L maximum is useful for several teas, a French press, or instant meals prepared close together. Use the window to measure the amount rather than filling to the top by habit; a lower fill reaches a boil sooner and reduces wasted electricity.
How quickly does the KE2700W boil?
Its 2400W rating places it in the high-power range for domestic kettles, and that is the main reason to expect brisk heating for ordinary volumes. However, the available product records do not provide a controlled seconds-to-boil measurement. Boil time changes with starting temperature, water volume, altitude, mains voltage and whether the kettle is filled to the maximum line, so a wattage figure alone is not a guaranteed time.
For the quickest practical result, fill to the amount you need, close the lid fully, place the jug correctly on the base and start with cool tap water. The kettle switches off automatically when it reaches boiling. Do not try to accelerate it by exceeding the maximum mark; overfilling can allow boiling water to escape through the spout or lid.

How does the three-way safety system work?
Sunbeam’s guide describes three automatic protections. They are useful safeguards, but they do not make unattended boiling safe: the guide still warns that boiling water can scald.
Automatic shutoff after boiling
When the water reaches a boil, the kettle cuts power without requiring you to press a second control. Wait for the switch to finish its cycle before lifting the jug, especially if steam is escaping around the lid.
Boil-dry cut-out
If the kettle is switched on without enough water, the protection cuts the heating circuit instead of allowing the element to run dry. Let the jug cool, add water above the 0.50L minimum and reset it according to the guide before trying again.
Overheating shutdown
A separate thermal protection shuts the kettle down if it becomes excessively hot. Repeated trips indicate that the kettle may be empty, overfilled, obstructed by scale or being restarted before it has cooled. Disconnect it and investigate rather than repeatedly cycling the switch.
Safe pouring
Steam and the water itself can scald. Hold the handle, keep your face and hands away from the lid and spout, pour slowly, and keep children away from the counter edge. Do not open the lid over your hand immediately after boiling.
How do you use the Sunbeam Alinea KE2700W?
- Place the cordless base on a stable, dry, heat-resistant surface and route the 900mm cable so it cannot catch on a handle or walkway.
- Lift the jug from the base and open the lid. Fill with at least 0.50L and no more than the maximum mark shown by the water window.
- Close the lid completely. An incompletely closed lid can affect steam sensing and may allow hot water to escape.
- Set the jug on the 360-degree base; the rotational design lets you align it from any direction.
- Switch it on. The concealed element heats the water, and the automatic shutoff operates at boiling.
- Lift the jug by its handle, check the path to the cup, and pour carefully. Return the jug to the base when finished.
If the kettle switches off before boiling, check that the fill is above 0.50L, the jug is seated correctly and the filter or spout is not heavily scaled. Unplug it and allow it to cool before inspecting or cleaning.
Does the KE2700W offer variable temperatures or keep-warm control?
No variable-temperature or keep-warm function appears in the cited specifications. It is a simple boil kettle: the control heats until boiling and then switches off. That is ideal for black tea, instant coffee, pasta water and other tasks that call for boiling water, but not for recipes or drinks that benefit from a precise lower temperature.

Green, white and oolong teas are commonly brewed below boiling, and manual cooling after a full boil is less precise and takes extra time. Pour-over coffee users may also prefer a kettle with temperature selection and a more controlled spout. If those uses describe your routine, treat the KE2700W as a basic appliance rather than a brewing tool.
Is the design easy to live with?
Base and cord
The 360-degree base is convenient for right- or left-handed placement, and the base stores spare cable. The 0.9m cable is adequate for a normal bench near a socket but may be short if the outlet is behind a deep appliance or high on a splashback.
Water window
The window makes it possible to check the amount before heating, helping you avoid both an underfilled boil-dry trip and unnecessary full-jug boils. Read it at eye level because reflections and condensation can make the line harder to see.
Concealed element
A concealed element leaves a smooth interior floor rather than an exposed coil. That simplifies wiping and prevents a cup or spoon from contacting the heater, but mineral scale can still build up on internal surfaces and around the filter.

The filter sits at the spout and can be removed for rinsing. It is intended to catch loose scale as you pour; it does not remove dissolved minerals from the water and cannot replace descaling.
How should you clean and descale it?
Unplug the base before cleaning. Empty the jug, rinse it and wipe the exterior with a damp cloth; never immerse the kettle, base, cable or plug. Remove the limescale filter as described in the guide, rinse it under running water and refit it securely before the next boil.
Descale when you see deposits, hear unusual bubbling, notice slower heating or live in a hard-water area. Use a kettle-safe descaling method that follows Sunbeam’s instructions, then rinse repeatedly until no cleaner smell remains. Do not use abrasive pads or scrape the concealed element. Scale is not evidence of a failed safety system, but heavy deposits can affect heating and make the filter harder to seat.

The useful comparison is the spread between the AUD $139 reference price and the AUD $109–$118.15 retailer snapshots. Check delivery charges, seller identity, stock status, return terms and whether a discount is a limited promotion before treating a lower figure as the price you will actually pay.
What do independent tests and owner reviews say?
CHOICE provides the independent product-test context and specification record, naming Adrian Lini as the home-appliance tester. Its record lists stainless-steel construction, 1.7L capacity, 2000–2400W wattage, a 1.17kg test weight, a 91cm cord and a one-year warranty. Those are controlled or recorded product details, not a guarantee of how every unit will perform in a different kitchen.
Retailer ratings are self-selected customer feedback. The Good Guys listing showed 4.6/5 from 138 reviews, while Myer showed 4.7/5 from 92 reviews at their respective crawls. ProductReview.com.au showed 2.7/5 from nine reviews, including one report of leakage developing after about three years. Nine reports cannot establish a failure rate, and the leakage account is an anecdote rather than a measured reliability result. Consider all three sources as different types of evidence instead of averaging them into a single score.
What are the KE2700W’s main strengths and weaknesses?
Strengths
- 1.7L capacity accommodates several cups or a larger cooking task.
- 2400W maximum power is appropriate for quick everyday heating, although no controlled boil-time figure is published.
- Concealed element, removable filter and water window support routine maintenance and measuring.
- 360-degree cordless base works from any approach and stores excess cable.
- Automatic shutoff, boil-dry protection and overheat protection provide three layers of automatic safety.
- One-year replacement warranty is stated by the manufacturer and retailer records.
Weaknesses
- The 0.50L minimum is relatively high for a single small mug.
- No cited temperature presets, keep-warm mode or variable-temperature control.
- Retail prices vary, so the AUD $139 reference price may not be the best current deal.
- A small owner-review sample includes a leakage anecdote after about three years; it does not quantify reliability.
- The 900mm cable may limit placement where the nearest outlet is far from the bench.
Who should buy this kettle?
Choose the KE2700W if your normal routine is boiling 0.5–1.7L for multiple people, tea, instant coffee or meals; you prefer a simple one-switch control; and you value a removable filter and rotational base. It is also a reasonable choice when a one-year replacement warranty and a familiar Australian retail channel matter.
Look elsewhere if most boils are under 0.5L, if you need exact temperatures, if you want to keep water hot between servings, or if your counter has limited vertical or cable clearance. Compare alternatives on minimum fill, actual wattage, safety cut-outs, filter access, base design, warranty and the seller’s return policy rather than on colour or headline capacity alone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you check before buying the white KE2700W?
- Confirm the model code is KE2700W and that the finish is the Ocean Mist/matte-white version you want.
- Measure a 240 x 170 x 225mm footprint and allow room to lift the lid and pour.
- Check that a socket is within the 900mm cable reach and that the base can sit flat.
- Decide whether your usual volume is above the 0.50L minimum; otherwise a smaller kettle may waste less water.
- Verify the current price, delivery cost, stock status and seller, because the listed AUD $109–$139 range is time-sensitive.
- Read the retailer’s return policy and retain the receipt for the 12-month replacement warranty.
- If you require temperature control, confirm that the alternative explicitly lists selectable temperatures; the KE2700W does not.
How does it compare with other kettles?
The fairest comparison is by use case, not by a single “best kettle” ranking. A family-oriented boil kettle should be compared with other 1.5–1.7L models on heating power, minimum fill, safety systems and cleaning access. A one-person model should be judged on its lowest usable volume and footprint. A tea or coffee brewer should be judged on temperature accuracy and control, features the KE2700W does not list.

Frequently asked questions
Can I leave water in the KE2700W overnight?
You can, but emptying and rinsing it after use reduces stale taste and mineral deposits. Do not store it with water sitting above the maximum mark, and never switch it on while empty.
Does the filter make hard water safe to drink?
No. The removable filter is a physical screen for limescale particles at the spout; it is not a water softener or purifier. If your supply is very hard, regular descaling remains necessary.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What should I do if it trips the safety cut-out?
Switch it off, unplug the base and let the jug cool completely. Check the water level, seating on the base and visible scale; if the cut-out repeats with a correctly filled, clean kettle, stop using it and contact the seller or warranty service.
Is the one-year warranty transferable when buying from a marketplace?
Warranty handling depends on the seller and proof-of-purchase terms. Keep the invoice, confirm who supplied the marketplace listing and ask that seller how a replacement claim is processed before discarding packaging.
Why do retailer ratings disagree so sharply?
Each rating comes from a different, self-selected group and review count. The 2.7/5 score from nine ProductReview.com.au reviews is too small to compare statistically with larger retailer samples, so use the written comments to identify possible issues rather than treating any score as a failure probability.
