To stop Twitch from using your channel content for future generative-AI model training, open Twitch, select your profile picture, choose Settings, open Security and Privacy, find Training for Generative AI, and switch the toggle off. Twitch’s support account-settings page is available at twitch.tv/settings/security. The control is targeted: it covers future training of an Amazon model intended to generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video, but it does not delete your streams or disable every AI-powered safety and accessibility feature.
How do I turn off Twitch’s Training for Generative AI setting?
The opt-out is controlled from your Twitch account, not from streaming software such as OBS or from an individual VOD page. Use this sequence:

- Select your profile picture in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Settings.
- Open Security and Privacy.
- Scroll to Training for Generative AI.
- Switch the toggle off, then leave the page only after the control shows the disabled state.
If Twitch presents a save prompt, confirm it. Reopen the Security and Privacy page afterward and check that the toggle is still off; that second check distinguishes a saved account preference from a control that merely changed visually during the session.
What content does the opt-out cover?
Twitch describes the setting as a future-use opt-out for training an Amazon model whose purpose is to generate or synthesize new content. The covered material is broad within your channel:

| Content type | What Twitch says the opt-out covers | Practical meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Live streams | Future generative-model training use | The setting applies to the broadcast content associated with your channel. |
| VODs | Future generative-model training use | Turning the control off is separate from deleting stored videos. |
| Clips | Future generative-model training use | Clips remain an explicitly listed content category. |
| Stream chats | Future generative-model training use on your channel | The rule is tied to the channel where the chat appears. |
| Pictures and text on your channel | Future generative-model training use | Channel material beyond video is included in Twitch’s description. |
The promise is about future training for that generative purpose. It is not a statement that every copy previously retained by Twitch, every derivative already created, or every model output has been erased. Twitch’s terms also describe broad rights and operational handling for User Content, including caching and storage, so the toggle should not be treated as a deletion request.
What does turning the toggle off not do?
Opting out of generative-model training is narrower than opting out of all machine learning or automated processing on Twitch. Twitch distinguishes training a model to generate new text, audio, images, or video from systems that operate the service or process content for safety and accessibility.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- AutoMod may continue. The opt-out does not switch off Twitch’s automated moderation system.
- Captions and other AI-supported features may continue. Twitch’s FAQ distinguishes these operational features from retaining content to train a model that generates new material.
- Some safety and security functions are platform-wide. Twitch says they cannot be individually disabled with this control.
- Your account content is not deleted. VODs, clips, channel text, pictures, and other User Content remain subject to the ordinary account and service controls.
- No device or streaming-hardware change is required. The preference is maintained on Twitch’s account systems, so a new microphone, webcam, capture card, or privacy device cannot set it for you.
In other words, the setting changes one declared training purpose. It does not make your channel invisible to Twitch’s moderation, captioning, security, storage, or other service operations.
Does the setting protect chat messages I post on another streamer’s channel?
No. Twitch says the channel owner’s preference governs chat posted in that channel. Your own account setting cannot override another broadcaster’s decision.
For example, if you disable Training for Generative AI on your channel and then chat in a different streamer’s channel, the other channel’s setting controls whether that chat can be used for the covered training purpose. This creates a control boundary that matters for moderators, guests, and viewers who participate across many communities: your setting governs material on your channel, not every message you send on Twitch.

Was the control enabled by default?
Coverage of Twitch’s support announcement and account-settings FAQ reported that the control was introduced in August 2026 and was enabled by default when rolled out. If you never changed the preference, check it rather than assuming your account inherited an opt-out.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Twitch chief product officer Mike Minton explained the default by saying, If it was opt-in, nobody would opt in.
That statement explains the stated rollout rationale; it does not provide a historical audit showing which individual streams were used or which models may have processed them before the setting was changed.
How can I confirm that my choice stayed saved?
A quick verification routine helps after the first change and after major account-settings redesigns. Twitch can change labels or page layout, while the policy boundary remains the same.
- Return to the account settings page at twitch.tv/settings/security.
- Open Security and Privacy and locate Training for Generative AI.
- Confirm that the toggle is visibly off, not merely that you remember switching it.
- Refresh the page or revisit it in a new tab and check again.
- Record the date you checked if you manage a professional channel or several contributors, so your team knows when the preference was last verified.
Recheck after a significant Twitch account-settings redesign because interface labels and navigation can move. A redesign does not by itself mean the preference changed, but it can make an old set of instructions inaccurate.
What are the real choices for a streamer?
The decision is easiest to understand by separating four issues: what processing is covered, whose channel controls it, when the protection applies, and whether your account content changes.

| Decision axis | With the toggle off | What remains outside the control |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Future training for an Amazon generative model that creates or synthesizes text, audio, images, or video is excluded for the covered channel content. | AutoMod, captions, safety systems, security processing, and other non-training uses may continue. |
| Control boundary | Your preference governs streams, VODs, clips, chats, and channel pictures or text associated with your channel. | Chat you post in another broadcaster’s channel follows that broadcaster’s preference. |
| Time | The commitment concerns future use after the opt-out is applied. | The setting does not establish that earlier processing, copies, derivatives, or model outputs were removed. |
| Account impact | The account preference changes the stated training permission. | It does not delete VODs, clips, channel pages, or other User Content. |
This distinction prevents two common mistakes. Disabling the control is meaningful if your goal is to withhold future generative-training use, but it is not a universal “do not process anything” switch and it is not an erasure command.
What should I do if I cannot find the toggle?
Start with the web account-settings page rather than a dashboard panel or broadcast-control menu. Twitch’s documented location is Settings → Security and Privacy → Training for Generative AI.
- Check the account. Make sure you are signed in to the channel whose content you want to protect; changing another account will not affect your channel.
- Use the exact section. The control is under Security and Privacy, not under stream, moderation, or video settings.
- Refresh after loading. Account pages can render controls after the initial layout; reload and revisit the section if the page appears incomplete.
- Look for a label change. After a redesign, the wording or position may change even though the relevant setting remains associated with account privacy and security.
- Verify the final state. If the switch appears to revert, reopen the page and confirm whether it actually saved before relying on the result.
If the setting is temporarily unavailable, avoid assuming that a missing control means you are opted out. The last clearly displayed account state is the one you can document; contact Twitch support for an account-specific failure that persists after reloading and signing in again.
How should channel owners explain the setting to collaborators?
Tell moderators, editors, and co-hosts exactly which channel the preference covers. A collaborator can be protected on your channel while their messages elsewhere remain governed by another broadcaster, and a guest’s own opt-out cannot override your channel’s choice for chat appearing on your stream.
Keep the policy wording precise: “This channel is opted out of future generative-AI training” is accurate. “Nothing on Twitch can be used by AI” is not, because Twitch says operational AI features and platform-wide safety functions may still process content.

What does Twitch’s Terms of Service mean for this choice?
Twitch’s Terms of Service define User Content broadly and state that when you livestream or otherwise make content available, you direct Twitch to cache or store it. The terms also reserve rights to remove or moderate content and to terminate access.
Those provisions explain why the generative-AI toggle should be described as a targeted policy preference rather than a withdrawal of every permission associated with using Twitch. The setting addresses the specified future training purpose; it does not rewrite the general service terms or promise that all retained copies disappear.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can the setting tell you about past AI use?
It tells you how Twitch intends to handle covered content for future generative-model training after the preference is disabled. It does not, by itself, reveal whether a particular stream was previously included in a dataset, whether a derivative was produced, or whether a model can reproduce material from an earlier period.

Minton’s explanation of the default is a rationale for the rollout, not a technical inventory. If you need a historical accounting for a legal, contractual, or business reason, the account toggle alone does not supply that record.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change this preference from a streaming application?
The documented control is in Twitch account settings, under Security and Privacy. Streaming applications control how you send a broadcast; they do not replace the server-side account preference, so use the Twitch settings page to make or verify the choice.

Does opting out remove an existing clip from Twitch?
No. The preference concerns future generative-model training and does not perform content-management actions. Removing a clip, VOD, or channel item is a separate decision with its own Twitch controls and does not provide the same policy signal as changing the training setting.
Can I know whether one of my old streams was used to train a model?
The cited Twitch materials do not provide a stream-by-stream historical audit. The opt-out’s future-use language and the rollout explanation should not be read as confirmation or denial about any individual item processed before you changed the setting.
What if I participate in several channels as a guest?
Check the preference of each channel where your chat or guest contribution appears. Twitch assigns control to the channel owner for that channel, so your personal setting cannot create one universal rule for all of your activity on the platform.
