Short answer: The Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Credit Card can justify its $299 annual fee for a business that regularly buys Southwest tickets and can use the airline-specific perks. The 2026 offer provides 80,000 Rapid Rewards points after $5,000 in purchases during the first three months, plus a 9,000-point anniversary award, free first checked bags for the cardmember and up to eight passengers, seat-selection benefits and progress toward Companion Pass and A-List status. It is a much weaker fit for occasional Southwest flyers because the rewards are tied to one airline, there is no lounge access, and the published benefits do not include complimentary inflight Wi-Fi.
What does the Southwest Performance Business card cost and offer?
This is Southwest’s premium small-business credit card, issued by JPMorgan Chase. The current 2026 public offer has a $299 annual fee and a variable purchase APR of 19.24%–27.74%, as reported by CNBC Select. Interest can erase the value of travel rewards, so carrying a balance is generally incompatible with the card’s value proposition.

| Purchase APR | 19.24%–27.74% variable, according to CNBC Select |

| All other purchases | 1 point per $1 |

Read the issuer’s current terms before applying because welcome-offer eligibility, pricing and benefit conditions can change. The Chase product page is the controlling source for application disclosures.
How do you earn the 80,000-point welcome bonus?
You must make at least $5,000 in purchases during the first three months after account opening. Purchases that are returned or otherwise excluded under the cardmember agreement do not help you reach the threshold.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Apply during the live offer period. Confirm that the application displays the 80,000-point offer and its $5,000 requirement before submitting.
- Set a three-month spending calendar. Count the deadline from account opening, not from the date you first use the card. Leave time for transactions to post.
- Route legitimate business expenses to the card. Southwest tickets, advertising, supplies and recurring operating costs can help, but do not manufacture spending or buy items you cannot repay.
- Track posted purchases. Pending charges may not count until they post. Keep statements and receipts in case a merchant reverses a transaction.
- Pay the balance in full. The bonus is not a reason to pay the card’s variable APR. Once the threshold is met, the points normally appear according to the issuer’s rewards terms rather than instantly.
The offer is substantial, but its value depends on how you use Rapid Rewards points. The available material does not establish a fixed cash value, transfer-partner list or guaranteed redemption rate, so do not treat 80,000 points as a fixed dollar amount.
How many points does the card earn after the bonus?
The card concentrates its highest earning rate on Southwest spending and gives useful, but narrower, bonuses for common travel and commuting expenses.
| Purchase type | Earning rate | Examples and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Southwest purchases | 4X | Tickets and other purchases that meet Southwest’s category definition |
| Gas stations and restaurants | 2X | Merchant coding determines eligibility |
| Hotels booked directly with the hotel | 2X | Third-party travel agencies may code differently |
| Local transit and commuting | 2X | Includes rideshare; coding and transaction type still matter |
| Everything else | 1X | Base earning rate |
In addition to spending rewards, cardmembers receive 9,000 anniversary points. Those points arrive each cardmember year under the applicable Southwest benefit terms; they are not part of the initial 80,000-point welcome offer.
What Southwest travel benefits do cardmembers receive?
The card’s practical value comes from several Southwest-specific conveniences rather than from a lounge network.
Seat selection at booking
Cardmembers can select a preferred or standard seat at booking when the benefit and eligible inventory are available. Availability is not guaranteed on every flight, so check the seat map during booking rather than assuming every seat is included.
Extra-legroom upgrade opportunity
When available, an extra-legroom seat upgrade can be provided within 48 hours of departure. This is an availability-based benefit, not a guaranteed upgrade on every reservation.

First checked bag free for up to nine travelers
The cardmember and up to eight additional passengers on the same reservation can receive a first checked bag free, subject to Southwest’s current benefit rules. That makes the perk more valuable for a business trip or family itinerary than for a solo traveler who already packs carry-on only.
Group 5 boarding
Eligible cardmembers receive Group 5 boarding. Boarding position remains later than the earliest groups, but it can reduce the uncertainty of boarding without purchasing a separate position for every trip.
Inflight purchase savings, not documented free Wi-Fi
The listed benefit is savings on eligible inflight purchases. The current product information does not promise complimentary inflight Wi-Fi, so a traveler should not value this card as a free-Wi-Fi card. Check the onboard Wi-Fi price and any separate Southwest promotion for the specific flight.
How do the Global Entry, Companion Pass and A-List benefits work?
These credits and qualifying-point accelerators can matter to a frequent Southwest traveler, but they are not equivalent to cash back.
Recommended Free Tools
Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS credit
The card provides up to $120 every four years toward one application fee for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS. The credit is periodic rather than annual, so its first-year value depends on when you apply and whether you would have paid the fee anyway.
Companion Pass qualifying-point boost
Cardmembers receive a 10,000-point annual boost toward Companion Pass qualification. These are qualifying points for status progress, not ordinary Rapid Rewards points available to spend on an award ticket. The boost can be meaningful only if your Southwest travel and other qualifying activity put Companion Pass within reach.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.

A-List tier qualifying points
Every $5,000 in annual card spending earns 2,500 A-List tier qualifying points. For example, $20,000 in qualifying annual spend would produce four increments, or 10,000 tier qualifying points, assuming each $5,000 block is recognized under the card’s terms. These points accelerate status but do not replace the need to satisfy Southwest’s other qualification rules.
Southwest describes the current cardmember benefits on its cardmember benefits page, while its Chase card promotion page may show offer-specific conditions.

Is the $299 annual fee worth paying?
The fee is easiest to justify when you can use several benefits in the same year and complete the welcome-offer spending without borrowing. There is no single break-even number because bag fees, seat value, status value and point redemptions differ by traveler.
A frequent Southwest flyer
If your company buys Southwest tickets repeatedly, 4X earning, the 9,000 anniversary points, free first bags for a group and seat or boarding benefits can collectively offset much of the fee. The $120 security-screening credit is another periodic saving if you would otherwise pay for an eligible application.
A business that travels with colleagues or family
The bag benefit covers the cardmember plus up to eight passengers on the same reservation. A single trip with several checked bags can therefore produce more practical value than the same benefit used by a carry-on-only solo traveler.
A traveler pursuing Southwest status
The 10,000 Companion Pass qualifying-point boost and 2,500 A-List tier qualifying points per $5,000 spent are designed for people already close to those goals. If you rarely fly Southwest, qualifying points may expire unused from a decision-making perspective even though they post correctly.

An occasional or airline-flexible traveler
The fee is difficult to defend if you fly Southwest only once or twice, do not check bags, do not value seat or boarding conveniences and prefer rewards usable across many airlines. A general travel business card may offer broader redemption options, but its exact annual fee, bonus and lounge policy must be compared separately.
How does it compare with cheaper Southwest cards and general travel cards?
The right comparison is not simply the largest welcome bonus. Match the annual fee and spending requirement to benefits you will actually use.
| Decision factor | Performance Business card | Cheaper Southwest business card | General travel business card |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | $299 | Specific amount not stated in the available information | Specific amount not stated in the available information |

Use the table as a checklist, not as a claim that every alternative has the same missing terms. Before switching, write down your annual Southwest spend, number of checked bags, likely companions, airport-security application timing and status goals. Then compare those measurable uses with each candidate card’s current agreement.
What are the main drawbacks?
- High recurring fee: $299 is a substantial fixed cost if travel drops.
- Airline concentration: The strongest earning and travel benefits are tied to Southwest and Rapid Rewards.
- No listed lounge access: Travelers who value airport lounges need a separate solution.
- No confirmed free Wi-Fi: Inflight purchase savings should not be interpreted as complimentary connectivity.
- Availability restrictions: Seat selection and extra-legroom upgrades depend on eligible inventory, and benefits can have reservation or timing conditions.
- Bonus-spending pressure: The $5,000 three-month requirement is unsuitable if it would cause late payments or unnecessary purchases.
- Variable interest rate: The 19.24%–27.74% APR range can overwhelm rewards for anyone who carries balances.
Who should apply for the Southwest Performance Business card?
Apply only if your business can comfortably meet the spending requirement and your travel pattern matches Southwest’s network and benefits. The strongest candidate is a business that buys Southwest flights throughout the year, checks bags for several travelers, wants faster Companion Pass or A-List progress and can pay the statement balance in full.

The fee should be evaluated against documented trips and expenses, not against the headline bonus alone.
What should you verify before submitting an application?
- Confirm the application shows the 80,000-point offer and the exact $5,000, three-month requirement.
- Read the current pricing and terms for the annual fee, APR, foreign-transaction fee and excluded transactions.
- Check whether your Southwest itinerary and booking method qualify for the stated seat, bag and boarding benefits.
- Estimate how many passengers will share your reservations and whether checked-bag savings are realistic.
- Decide whether the $120 security-screening credit timing fits your travel plans.
- Make a repayment plan that avoids interest before moving business expenses onto the card.
Verdict: is the premium Southwest business card a good deal?
For a Southwest-heavy business, the Performance card is a credible premium option: the 80,000-point bonus, 4X Southwest earning, 9,000 anniversary points, group bag benefit and status accelerators can be valuable together. For an infrequent or airline-agnostic traveler, the $299 fee, lack of listed lounge access and absence of a documented free-Wi-Fi benefit make it hard to recommend. Treat it as a specialized Southwest operating card, not a universal travel card.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can an existing Southwest cardholder receive the 80,000-point offer?
The supplied offer details do not state the eligibility rules for people who currently hold or previously held another Southwest card. Chase commonly places offer-specific restrictions in the application disclosure, so read that language immediately above the submit button.
Does the card pay for inflight Wi-Fi?
No complimentary Wi-Fi benefit is identified in the current product information. The documented perk is savings on eligible inflight purchases; check the flight’s Wi-Fi terms separately.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Can the free checked-bag benefit cover employees or family members?
The stated allowance is the cardmember plus up to eight passengers on the same reservation. Whether a particular employee itinerary qualifies depends on Southwest’s reservation and cardmember-benefit conditions.
Are the 10,000 Companion Pass points redeemable for flights?
They are described as Companion Pass qualifying points, which are used for status progress rather than as a stated balance of ordinary award points. Review Southwest’s current qualification rules to see how they combine with your other qualifying activity.
Is the $120 security-screening credit available every year?
No. The benefit is up to $120 every four years for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS, so it should be modeled as a periodic credit rather than an annual rebate.
