To use SoundCloud on a phone, install the official app for iPhone, iPad, or Android, sign in, and use the bottom navigation to move between Home, Discover, Following, Search, and Library. You can stream tracks, follow artists, like songs, build playlists, and share or comment from the player. Offline listening requires a Go or Go+ subscription, while uploading works from local or cloud storage on both major mobile platforms.
This guide explains the mobile controls, the differences between Free, Go, and Go+, the exact upload paths, audio-quality settings, data considerations, and fixes for common playback problems.

You need a supported iPhone, iPad, or Android device, an internet connection for streaming, and the official SoundCloud mobile app. A free SoundCloud account is enough for ad-supported listening and for organizing music; paid plans add offline and audio features rather than being required for basic playback.
- iPhone or iPad: Install the official SoundCloud app from Apple’s App Store.
- Android: Install the official SoundCloud app from Google Play.
- Account: Sign in to an existing account or create one in the app.
- Connection: Use Wi-Fi or mobile data to stream. Tracks saved for offline use still need to be downloaded while you are online.
SoundCloud describes the app as requiring only one thumb for its main controls. In practice, the interface is built around taps, swipes, and the waveform, so most listening tasks can be done one-handed.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
How do I install SoundCloud and sign in?
- Open the App Store on iPhone or iPad, or Google Play on Android.
- Search for the official SoundCloud app and verify the publisher before installing.
- Open the app after installation.
- Choose Sign in and enter your SoundCloud credentials, or select the option to create an account.
- Allow notifications only if you want release and activity alerts; you can change notification permissions later in your phone’s system settings.
Signing in matters because likes, playlists, follows, and offline-library access are tied to your account. If you use SoundCloud without signing in, those personalized features may not be available or may not follow you to another device.
How do I find and play music?
Use the bottom navigation to open Home or Discover, or tap Search when you know what you want. Search can locate tracks, artists, playlists, or genres. Tap a result to start playback.
Use Search for a specific track or creator
- Tap Search in the bottom menu.
- Enter a track title, artist name, playlist, or genre.
- Review the result type so you do not open an artist page when you meant to play a track.
- Tap the result to play it immediately, or open its more-options menu to save, share, or add it to a playlist.
Use Discover for recommendations
Discover presents recommendations based on your listening, likes, and follows. The mobile Feed separates Discover and Following tabs, so you can switch between algorithmic suggestions and activity from artists you follow.
Control playback with gestures
- Tap the player to play or pause.
- Swipe to skip when the app presents the swipe control.
- Drag across the waveform to scrub to a different point in the track.
- Open the expanded player to reach like, repost, comment, share, queue, and repeat controls.
The exact icon arrangement can change with an app release, but the play/pause, waveform, and player actions remain the core mobile controls.
How do Discover and Following differ?
Discover is for finding music you have not deliberately followed. Following is the activity stream for artists and creators you chose to follow, including new releases and reposts.
- Open Home or Feed, depending on the label shown in your app.
- Choose Discover to browse recommendations.
- Choose Following to see updates from followed artists.
- Follow an artist from the artist page or a track’s options menu when you want future releases and reposts in Following.
Your interactions influence recommendations. Liking tracks and following artists gives SoundCloud more signals about the styles and creators you want to see; removing a like or unfollowing changes future recommendations over time.

How do I like songs and find them later?
Tap the heart on a track or playlist to save it to your account. Open Library from the bottom menu to find liked tracks, playlists, albums, and followed artists.
- Start a track or open a playlist.
- Tap the heart icon.
- Open Library.
- Choose the category you need, such as liked tracks, playlists, albums, or artists.
A like is not the same as an offline download. It organizes the item in your account; offline availability depends on your subscription and whether the content can be saved under that plan.
How do I create and manage a playlist on my phone?
The mobile app lets you create, edit, and rearrange playlists without using the desktop site.
Create a playlist
- Open a track’s more-options menu from the player, search results, or a library list.
- Choose the option to add the track to a playlist.
- Select Create new playlist when offered.
- Enter a playlist name and save it.
Add, remove, or reorder tracks
- Open Library and select the playlist.
- Use the playlist’s edit control.
- Add tracks from search or from the current player.
- Remove unwanted tracks and drag items into the order you want, then save the changes.
Use the shuffle button when you want a varied order. Repeat is handled through Next Up; open the queue, then choose repeat for the current track or playlist when the control is available.

Can I listen to SoundCloud offline?
Yes, but offline listening is a paid feature. SoundCloud’s mobile plan descriptions list offline saves for Go and Go+, while the Free tier does not include them. Go+ also unlocks premium tracks and high-quality streaming.
| Capability | Free | Go | Go+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advertisements | Included | Removed | Removed |
| Offline saves | No | Yes | Yes |
| Premium Go+ tracks | No | No | Yes |
| High-quality streaming | No | No | Yes |
Go subscribers can listen to their Library offline on iOS and Android. Offline access is designed around saved Library content rather than a general download of every item on SoundCloud.

How do I change SoundCloud audio quality and reduce data use?
High-quality streaming sounds better but consumes more mobile data. Use it on Wi-Fi when your cellular allowance is limited.

- Open Library.
- Tap the three-dot menu (…).
- Choose Settings.
- Open Streaming Quality.
- Select High Quality if your plan and account offer it.
On Android
- Open More.
- Tap Settings.
- Choose Streaming Quality.
- Select High Quality when available.
When the setting is unavailable, the reason may be your plan, region, or app version rather than a fault with the phone. Streaming quality affects playback data; it does not automatically convert a low-quality upload into a higher-quality recording.
Practical data-saving choices
- Leave streaming quality at the standard setting when using cellular data.
- Use Wi-Fi for long listening sessions and for offline saves.
- Check your phone’s per-app cellular-data screen to see SoundCloud’s actual usage.
- Turn off automatic app updates over cellular data if your phone is downloading large updates at the same time.
How do I upload a song from an iPhone or Android phone?
You can upload an audio file directly from the mobile app. Prepare the final audio, artwork, title, genre, and description first; the app lets you correct those details before saving the upload.
- Open SoundCloud and go to Home.
- Tap the upward-pointing Upload arrow in the top-right corner.
- Choose an audio file. On iPhone or iPad, the picker can use Files, iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, or local storage. Android offers audio files and available cloud or local locations.
- Check or edit the track title.
- Add or replace artwork if you have suitable cover art.
- Select a genre and write a useful description.
- Use the privacy toggle to choose Public or Private.
- Tap Save to submit the upload.
The track appears on your profile after processing. Playback can be delayed while SoundCloud uploads, transcodes, and prepares the file, so do not assume an immediate delay means the upload failed.
Choose Public or Private carefully
A public upload can be discovered and played by other users according to SoundCloud’s normal visibility rules. A private upload is intended for restricted sharing and testing; confirm the privacy state before sending the track to collaborators or publishing a release.

- Confirm that the file is stored locally or in a cloud service enabled in the picker.
- On iOS, open the Files app and make sure the cloud provider is available under Browse.
- On Android, move the file into a location the system audio picker can access.
- Check that SoundCloud has the required file-access permission in your phone’s app settings.
- Retry on a stable Wi-Fi connection if the file is large.
What is different between SoundCloud on iPhone and Android?
The main concepts are shared: Home or Feed, Discover, Following, Search, Library, player controls, playlists, and mobile uploads. The differences are mostly menu labels and the locations available in the file picker.
| Task | iPhone/iPad | Android |
|---|---|---|
| Streaming-quality path | Library → … → Settings → Streaming Quality | More → Settings → Streaming Quality |
| Upload sources | Files, iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, and local storage | Audio files plus available cloud and local locations |
| Offline listening | Supported for eligible Library content with Go or Go+ | Supported for eligible Library content with Go or Go+ |
| Core listening controls | Play, pause, swipe to skip, waveform scrubbing | Play, pause, swipe to skip, waveform scrubbing |
Labels can vary by app release and region. If a path in this guide does not match your screen, look for the equivalent item under Home, More, Library, or the three-dot menu rather than installing an unofficial app.
How do I like, repost, comment on, or share a track?
Open the player for the track, then use the action icons beneath or beside the artwork. The available actions include liking, reposting, commenting, and sharing.
- Like: Saves the track to your liked music in Library.
- Repost: Shares the track with followers through your activity.
- Comment: Adds a comment at the relevant track position when timed comments are supported.
- Share: Opens your phone’s sharing sheet so you can send the track or playlist through another app.
Review the account and privacy context before reposting or commenting from a shared device. A repost is an account action, not merely a local bookmark.

One SoundCloud account streams on one device at a time across the web, iOS, and Android. Starting playback on a second device pauses the first, so simultaneous listening requires separate accounts.
If playback pauses unexpectedly
- Check whether SoundCloud is open and playing in a browser, tablet, or another phone.
- Stop playback on the other device.
- Return to the phone you want to use and press play again.
- If the pause continues, sign out of unused devices and change your password if you suspect someone else is using the account.
This single-device rule is separate from ordinary network buffering. If the track pauses but no other device is active, troubleshoot the connection, app state, or phone power settings.

How do I fix common mobile SoundCloud problems?
The app will not load or search
- Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data to test the connection.
- Force-close and reopen the app.
- Install the latest official app update available for your device.
- Sign out and back in if your Library appears empty while the account is online.
A track will not play
- Try another track to determine whether the problem is limited to one upload.
- Check whether the item is restricted by your region, account, or plan.
- Confirm that another device is not streaming the same account.
- Disable airplane mode and verify that the app can reach the internet.
Offline music is missing
- Confirm that you are signed into the account that saved the music.
- Check that your Go or Go+ subscription is active.
- Reconnect to the internet periodically so the app can verify account access.
- Look in Library rather than ordinary search results when offline.
An upload is stuck processing
- Keep the app open on a reliable connection until the upload completes.
- Check your profile for the track before uploading a duplicate.
- Verify the file is a supported audio file and is not damaged.
- Allow extra time for transcoding; playback may not be immediate after tapping Save.
The app uses too much data
- Set Streaming Quality to the standard option.
- Reserve high-quality playback and offline saves for Wi-Fi.
- Use your phone’s data-usage controls to restrict background cellular access if needed.
What should I know about changing plans or app versions?
Free, Go, and Go+ capabilities can differ by region and can change as the app is updated. The labels, subscription offers, and settings shown on your phone are the current account-specific reference. If a feature described here is absent, check the in-app subscription screen and SoundCloud’s Help Center before troubleshooting the phone itself.
Plan changes also affect what you can do with saved music. If you cancel a plan that includes offline listening, do not assume previously saved tracks will remain playable indefinitely without an active entitlement.

Can I use SoundCloud without creating an account on my phone?
You may be able to browse or start some streams before signing in, but an account is needed to keep likes, follows, playlists, and personalized recommendations. Sign in before organizing music you want to find again.
How can I keep SoundCloud from using cellular data overnight?
Turn off SoundCloud’s cellular-data permission in your phone’s app settings, then use Wi-Fi for streaming. You can also disable background mobile-data access while leaving Wi-Fi playback available.
Where are my uploaded songs after I save them?
Open your profile and look in your tracks list. A new upload may appear before it is playable because SoundCloud still has to process and transcode the file.
Can I move a playlist from one SoundCloud account to another in the mobile app?
The mobile workflow is designed to manage playlists within the signed-in account. If you change accounts, you must recreate the playlist or use whatever account-transfer options SoundCloud currently exposes.
