Verdict: The SOUNDBOKS Mix is worth its $799 US list price if you need very high volume, serious outdoor durability and a battery you can replace. Its 121 dB maximum output, claimed 40-hour mid-volume runtime and IP65-rated electronics make it a strong choice for camping, tailgates and large gatherings. It is a poor value for a small room or patio, where its 21.4-pound weight, limited inputs and separately sold charger add unnecessary cost.
Launched in March 2026, the Mix sits between a home Bluetooth speaker and a portable PA-style party system. It delivers more headroom and ruggedness than typical consumer speakers, but Bluetooth 4.2 and one wired input look dated beside the $799 price. The right purchase decision depends less on sound quality than on how often you will carry it outdoors and how loudly you actually listen.

What is the SOUNDBOKS Mix, and who is it for?
The SOUNDBOKS Mix is a large, battery-powered Bluetooth party speaker designed for outdoor gatherings rather than casual background listening. It combines a high-output mono speaker system with a rugged enclosure, a replaceable LiFePO4 battery and the ability to link with other compatible speakers.
It makes the most sense for people who regularly host backyard parties, car-camping trips, tailgates or beach gatherings where mains power is unavailable and ordinary portable speakers run out of volume. The Mix is also practical for users who prefer a repairable, replaceable-battery product instead of replacing an entire speaker when the battery ages.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
It is less suitable for bedrooms, apartments, desk listening or a small yard. The enclosure is almost 20 inches wide and weighs more than 21 pounds, so moving it is a deliberate carry rather than a casual one-handed relocation.
How loud is the SOUNDBOKS Mix?
SOUNDBOKS rates the Mix at a maximum sound-pressure level of 121 dB. That is a manufacturer specification, not an independent laboratory measurement, but it places the speaker firmly in large-party territory. At that level, hearing protection and distance are sensible precautions; prolonged exposure to very loud music can damage hearing.

The acoustic system uses two 72-watt RMS Class-D amplifiers, a 10-inch woofer and a 1.2-inch dome tweeter. SOUNDBOKS specifies an effective frequency range of 40 Hz to 20 kHz. The large woofer is intended to provide physical bass outdoors, where low frequencies disperse quickly, while the dome tweeter handles high-frequency detail.
| Specification | SOUNDBOKS Mix | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum SPL | 121 dB | Manufacturer-rated peak loudness; no independent measurement was provided. |
| Amplification | Two 72 W RMS Class-D amplifiers | Dedicated amplifier channels for the woofer and tweeter. |
| Drivers | 10-inch woofer and 1.2-inch dome tweeter | A large low-frequency driver paired with a separate high-frequency driver. |
| Effective frequency range | 40 Hz–20 kHz | Published operating range, not a guarantee of equal output at every frequency. |
Listening impressions support the intended use. Tom’s Guide described ground-shaking bass, crisp treble and refined mids in a hands-on follow-up. WIRED praised the speaker’s ability to get massively loud. Those are subjective evaluations rather than controlled frequency-response or distortion tests, so treat them as an indication of character, not a laboratory benchmark.
How long does the Mix battery last?
SOUNDBOKS claims up to 40 hours at mid volume and about eight hours at full volume. The battery is a 12.8-volt, 7.8-amp-hour LiFePO4 pack rated at 99.84 watt-hours. The two runtime figures describe very different use cases: moderate background music can cover a long weekend, while sustained maximum-output playback is an all-day event at best.
Actual endurance will vary with volume, bass content, temperature, Bluetooth conditions and the age of the battery. The eight-hour full-volume figure should therefore be treated as a manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed runtime under every playlist. No independent battery test or charging-time result was provided.

What does the battery chemistry mean?
LiFePO4 cells are generally chosen for cycle life and thermal stability compared with many conventional lithium-ion chemistries. The important practical benefit here is that the battery is replaceable. SOUNDBOKS lists a replacement battery called The Battery at $199 on its product materials; check current availability and regional compatibility before ordering.
Is the SOUNDBOKS Mix waterproof?
The Mix has an IP65-rated coating for its electronics. In practical terms, the enclosure is designed to resist dust and water jets, making it appropriate for splashes, damp grass and ordinary outdoor weather when handled sensibly. IP65 is not an immersion rating, so do not submerge the speaker, leave it in standing water or treat heavy driving rain as harmless.
Construction is a major part of the Mix’s appeal. The cabinet uses ABS/polycarbonate material, silicone ball corners, a reinforced top hat and a detachable steel grille. The grille and battery are replaceable, which can extend the useful life after impacts or normal wear. WIRED specifically praised the rubberized corners, IP65 protection, replaceable grille and replaceable battery.
How should you use it in bad weather?
- Keep ports and covers properly closed before exposing the speaker to rain or spray.
- Place it on a stable surface rather than directly in puddles or wet soil.
- After a wet event, let the cabinet dry completely before storage or charging.
- Do not wash it with a pressure washer or submerge it to clean the enclosure.
How portable is a 21.4-pound speaker?
The Mix weighs 21.4 pounds and measures 19.1 × 13.5 × 10.9 inches. That is portable between a vehicle, campsite and nearby table, but it is not effortless backpack transport. The dimensions also require meaningful trunk or cargo space, especially if you carry stands, coolers or other camping equipment.
Think of it as a carry-to-the-party system. A single adult can move it between close locations, but long walks, stairs or uneven trails make the weight noticeable. If you need to hike any distance, a smaller speaker is likely to be more convenient even if it cannot match the Mix’s output.
What connections and speaker-linking features does it have?
Wireless playback uses Bluetooth 4.2. That standard works with current iPhone and Android devices through normal Bluetooth pairing, but it does not provide the newer efficiency and feature set associated with later Bluetooth generations. The Mix has one 3.5 mm stereo input for a wired source.

SOUNDBOKS’ SKAA TeamUp feature can link up to five compatible SOUNDBOKS speakers. This is useful when one speaker cannot cover a large area, although every additional unit adds cost, transport weight and setup complexity. TeamUp compatibility is limited to supported SOUNDBOKS models; it is not a general way to combine arbitrary Bluetooth speakers from different manufacturers.
What is missing?
- There is no broad collection of analog inputs in the cited specification, only one 3.5 mm stereo input.
- Bluetooth is version 4.2 rather than a newer generation.
- The cited materials do not establish support for USB audio, optical input, microphone mixing or app-based multi-room features.
Those omissions may not matter at a casual party, but they matter if you want to connect several instruments, microphones or professional playback sources.

Does the Mix include a charger?
No. The cited US product listing does not include a charger in the box. Charging requires a USB-C Power Delivery supply rated at 65 watts or higher, and SOUNDBOKS sells its own charger separately. The official charger is listed at $69 on the product materials; live price, stock and regional compatibility can change.
Before buying, check that an existing USB-C PD charger can deliver at least 65 W. A low-power phone charger may fit the connector but fail to provide the required power. If you need a second charging setup for travel, budget for another compatible 65 W-or-higher PD supply rather than assuming any USB-C adapter will work.
What does the Mix cost to own?
The US list price is $799 for the speaker. Adding the listed $69 official charger brings the pre-tax equipment total to $868. A replacement battery listed at $199 would bring a future speaker-plus-charger-and-spare-battery total to $1,067, before tax or shipping. These are US list figures associated with the 2026 product materials, not a guarantee of current promotional pricing.
| Item | Listed US price | Purchase consideration |
|---|---|---|
| SOUNDBOKS Mix | $799 | Current US list price cited for the 2026 model. |
| Official USB-C charger | $69 | Sold separately; charging supply must be rated at 65 W or higher. |
| Replacement battery | $199 | Listed separately; verify regional compatibility and stock. |
The replaceable battery can improve long-term value because battery wear does not automatically end the speaker’s service life. Conversely, the missing charger raises the effective first-day cost and may be frustrating if you do not already own a suitable USB-C PD supply.

How does the Mix compare with Soundboks 4 and other party speakers?
The Mix is positioned as a smaller, more portable sibling to the Soundboks 4 and as the practical successor to the brand’s Soundboks Go for buyers who want more output. The available evidence does not provide a complete, like-for-like specification set for the Soundboks 4, JBL models or Marshall models, so the table below distinguishes established Mix figures from information that is not stated rather than guessing at competitor performance.

This comparison does not mean competing products lack any listed feature. It means the available specifications do not establish a defensible number or inclusion for those models. If you are choosing among them, compare the exact model pages for output ratings, battery claims, IP certification, included accessories and current regional pricing.
What are the Mix’s main strengths?
- Very high output: A 121 dB rating and large woofer give it the headroom needed for outdoor gatherings.
- Long claimed endurance: Forty hours at mid volume reduces the need for daily charging on trips.
- Rugged construction: IP65-rated electronics protection, impact-resistant materials, silicone corners and a steel grille are built for active outdoor use.
- Replaceable service parts: A removable grille and replaceable battery are more repair-friendly than sealed consumer speakers.
- Expandable system: SKAA TeamUp can link multiple compatible units when one cabinet is not enough.
What are the Mix’s weaknesses?
- Heavy and bulky: At 21.4 pounds, it is portable but not a comfortable long-distance carry.
- Charger cost: The required charger is not included in the cited US listing.
- Older wireless standard: Bluetooth 4.2 is functional but dated for a speaker introduced in 2026.
- Limited physical connectivity: The cited specification lists only one 3.5 mm stereo input.
- Overkill for small spaces: WIRED found its size and output excessive for a small yard, where a smaller speaker can be easier to live with.
- No independent performance data: Published SPL and runtime figures come from the manufacturer, while listening descriptions are subjective.
Is the SOUNDBOKS Mix worth $799?
Buy it when outdoor volume, ruggedness and replaceable parts are more important than compact size, modern wireless features or a low all-in price. The Mix is especially compelling for frequent hosts, campers and tailgate users who would otherwise need multiple smaller speakers or a generator-powered system.
Skip it when most listening happens indoors, when you carry equipment long distances, or when you expect a full set of inputs and a charger in the box. In those situations, the Mix’s advantages are difficult to use and its weight and accessory cost become the dominant experience.
Choose the Mix if you answer yes to most of these questions
- Do you need music to remain powerful across an outdoor area rather than just beside the listener?
- Will you use the speaker away from wall power for many hours at a time?
- Do you value a replaceable battery and grille over the lightest possible design?
- Are you comfortable carrying more than 20 pounds from a vehicle to the listening area?
- Do you already own, or plan to buy, a 65 W-or-higher USB-C PD charger?
Choose something smaller if these describe your use
- Your normal listening space is a bedroom, kitchen, apartment or small patio.
- You need to walk, hike or use public transit with the speaker.
- You rely on newer Bluetooth features, several physical inputs or integrated microphone functions.
- You want the lowest total purchase cost and do not want to buy a charger separately.
How should you set up and transport the Mix?
The basic setup is straightforward, but planning prevents the most common ownership problems.
- Confirm that your USB-C PD supply is rated for at least 65 W, then charge the speaker before the first event.
- Pair your phone or playback device over Bluetooth 4.2 in the device’s normal Bluetooth settings. Keep the first pairing close to the speaker.
- For a wired source, use the 3.5 mm stereo input and set the source device to a moderate level before increasing speaker volume.
- Place the cabinet on a stable, dry surface with the grille unobstructed. Avoid corners or enclosed spaces if you are trying to cover a wide outdoor area.
- If using TeamUp, connect only compatible SOUNDBOKS units and test the group at low volume before the event begins.
- After use outdoors, wipe off moisture and dirt, allow the cabinet to dry, and store the speaker and battery in a dry location.
The cited materials do not specify an official charging-time figure, pass-through operating mode or detailed app workflow. Do not plan an event around those features unless your regional manual confirms them.

What does the 2026 review evidence say?
WIRED gave the Mix an 8/10 rating in 2026, highlighting its volume, durability, IP65 protection, rubberized corners, replaceable grille and replaceable battery. The review’s reservations were the speaker’s size, weight, missing charger and lack of practicality for small yards.
Tom’s Guide reported the March 2026 launch, described the Mix as the Soundboks 4’s smaller sibling and said it effectively replaces the Soundboks Go as the brand’s most portable party speaker. Its hands-on listening notes praised bass, treble and midrange clarity while pointing out the reduced number of connection ports and Bluetooth 4.2 at this price.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will an iPhone or Android phone work with the SOUNDBOKS Mix?
Yes. Bluetooth 4.2 is backward-compatible with the Bluetooth audio profiles used by current iPhone and Android devices, so normal system-level pairing should work. The cited materials do not require a dedicated app for basic playback.
Can I use a power bank instead of the official charger?
Only if the power bank provides USB-C Power Delivery at 65 watts or more and meets the speaker’s charging requirements. Many phone-sized power banks provide less power, so check the output label rather than relying on the connector shape.
Can the Mix stay outside overnight?
Its IP65-rated electronics coating helps with dust and water jets, but the rating is not for immersion or indefinite exposure. Cover or move the speaker to a dry place after an event, and let it dry fully before charging.
Is charging time published for the Mix?
The cited product and support information gives the required 65 W-or-higher USB-C PD supply but does not state a charging-time figure. Plan charging around the event schedule instead of assuming a specific number of hours.
