No. Mojang says Snow Bricks do not melt. That rule applies to the new decorative brick set introduced in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Preview 26.70.22 on October 28, 2026. Sunlight, torches and ordinary nearby lighting therefore do not create a documented melting problem for the Snow Bricks themselves; that light-specific conclusion is an implication of Mojang’s general “does not melt” rule, not a published light-level test. Rain should not melt the bricks either. However, the announcement does not establish whether falling snow can accumulate on them, how every weather effect changes the surrounding scene, or when the set reaches a stable release or Java Edition.
Do Snow Bricks melt in Minecraft?
No. Mojang’s official Minecraft Preview 26.70.22 changelog lists the behavior as “Does not melt.” This is the clearest answer for the Snow Bricks block set: placing the bricks in a warm-looking location, under daylight or near a light source is not described as causing the brick itself to disappear or change through melting.

The wording matters because Snow Bricks are a named building-block set, not simply a renamed snow layer. Treat the non-melting statement as a rule for these brick blocks. Do not transfer an assumed temperature threshold, biome rule or light-level limit from another snow-related block to them.
What are Snow Bricks, exactly?
Snow Bricks are decorative construction blocks announced for an upcoming game drop. Mojang presents them like other brick families, with multiple shapes intended for walls, roofs, edges and detailing. The preview introduction names four forms:

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Form named by Mojang | Typical building use | What the announcement establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Snow bricks | Full-block walls, floors and structural-looking surfaces | The main Snow Bricks block; it does not melt |
| Packed snow brick slabs | Half-height floors, trim, steps and roof lines | A slab variant is included; Mojang specifically uses the wording “packed snow brick slabs” |
| Snow brick stairs | Staircases, roof pitches and angled trim | A stair variant is included |
| Snow brick walls | Low boundaries, railings and decorative borders | A wall variant is included |
That is a count of four named forms in Mojang’s announcement, not a durability test or a performance measurement. The same official material identifies a shovel as the best tool for the set. It does not publish a crafting recipe, hardness value, blast resistance, drop behavior or mining-speed number in the information covered here.

Will sunlight melt Snow Bricks?
There is no documented sunlight-melting problem for Snow Bricks. Mojang’s published behavior says the blocks do not melt, and that general rule supports the practical conclusion that daylight does not melt the brick itself.
That conclusion should not be presented as a measured “safe light level.” The changelog does not provide a luminosity threshold, a list of tested dimensions or a laboratory-style comparison between shade and direct sun. In a normal build, you can place Snow Bricks outdoors without designing around a special darkness requirement. If a future changelog adds a separate lighting interaction, that later version would supersede this preview description.
Will torches or other lights melt Snow Bricks?
Torches and ordinary nearby lighting are not described as melting Snow Bricks. This is an inference from Mojang’s explicit non-melting rule, rather than an independently published torch test or light-level table.
For a practical build, that means you can light a Snow Bricks entrance, path or interior without expecting the brick blocks to vanish merely because a torch, lantern or another usual light source is close by. Keep the scope narrow: the statement concerns the Snow Bricks blocks. It does not guarantee that every separate snow layer, snow-covered surface or other cold-themed block in the same scene behaves identically.

The announcement also does not define what happens in every unusual block interaction. It gives no special rule for heat-producing contraptions, fluids, explosions or custom add-ons. Avoid turning the simple “does not melt” note into a claim that every possible interaction has been tested.

Does rain affect Snow Bricks?
Rain should not melt Snow Bricks. Weather-related melting is not listed as an exception to the official non-melting behavior, so rain is not a reason to shelter the brick set or replace it with another material.
There is an important distinction between melting and appearance changes around the block. The preview announcement does not separately establish whether falling snow can deposit a new snow layer on top of a Snow Bricks surface, whether a particular weather event changes nearby terrain, or how every weather effect is rendered around a build. Those questions remain open rather than being silently answered by the non-melting sentence.
| Question | What is established | What is not established |
|---|---|---|
| Can rain melt the brick? | No; the block is described as not melting. | No separate rain experiment or weather threshold is published. |
| Can snowfall add a layer above it? | Nothing in the cited announcement confirms or denies this. | Accumulation behavior and visual layering remain unspecified. |
| Will the whole snowy scene look unchanged? | The brick itself should not melt. | Other snow layers, terrain and weather visuals may follow their own rules. |
Which Minecraft version has Snow Bricks?
The verified introduction is Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Preview 26.70.22, published October 28, 2026. Mojang describes it as a preview for an upcoming game drop. That is not confirmation that Snow Bricks are in every stable Bedrock release, and it does not identify a corresponding Java Edition build.
Recommended Free Tools
If you cannot find the blocks, check the edition and build before assuming they melted, were removed or have a different name:
- Confirm that the title screen or launcher identifies Bedrock Edition, not Java Edition.
- Check that the installed preview build is specifically 26.70.22 or a later build whose notes retain the feature. A stable build may not contain an announced preview feature.
- Read the current Mojang changelog for your exact build. Preview content can change before release.
- If you are on Java Edition or an older stable Bedrock version, treat the blocks’ availability as unconfirmed rather than substituting a different snow block.
No stable-release date or Java Edition identifier is established by the announcement. The safest wording is therefore “available in the verified Bedrock Preview introduction,” not “available everywhere in Minecraft.”
How should you build with Snow Bricks in light and weather?
Use Snow Bricks as a decorative palette without adding a melt-protection step. Their named forms let you make a coherent set of full blocks, slabs, stairs and walls, while the shovel is the tool Mojang lists as best for the block set.

For outdoor walls and paths
Full Snow Bricks can provide continuous surfaces, with walls for low borders and stairs or the packed snow brick slabs for transitions and trim. Since the brick itself is not described as melting, direct daylight is not a reason to roof the structure solely for preservation.

Place your normal lighting where it serves visibility and composition. The non-melting rule means you do not need to move torches away from a Snow Bricks façade on the basis of an assumed light threshold. This is a practical implication, not evidence that Mojang published a torch-by-torch test.
For snowy landscapes
Separate the question of the brick from the question of the landscape. A Snow Bricks wall can remain intact while nearby snow layers, ground cover or weather visuals change according to their own mechanics. Plan the scene so that a change in surrounding snow does not make the build’s design depend on an unconfirmed accumulation rule.
How are Snow Bricks different from ordinary snow layers?
The key difference is block identity. Snow Bricks are a decorative brick set with four named forms in the preview announcement; an ordinary snow layer is a separate snow-related block and should not be used as a proxy for the brick set’s behavior.
| Comparison point | Snow Bricks | Ordinary snow layer |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Named decorative brick blocks introduced for a Bedrock preview | A separate snow-related block; the cited announcement does not redefine it |
| Melting statement | Mojang explicitly says the bricks do not melt | The Snow Bricks announcement does not establish a new rule for it |
| Forms listed | Snow bricks, packed snow brick slabs, snow brick stairs and snow brick walls | Not part of the four-form Snow Bricks list |
| Availability evidence | Bedrock Preview 26.70.22; stable and Java availability not established | Do not infer its version status from the preview announcement |
This distinction prevents a common troubleshooting mistake: seeing a change in a nearby snow layer and concluding that a Snow Bricks wall melted. The official note supports a non-melting conclusion for the brick set itself, not a universal promise about every snow-looking block.
What remains unknown about weather and unusual interactions?
Mojang’s preview note is sufficient to answer the melting question, but it is not a complete mechanics reference. It does not settle snow accumulation, every visual effect during rain or snowfall, fluid interactions, or behavior in every custom environment.

- Snow accumulation: The cited announcement does not say whether a falling-snow event can place a separate layer on a Snow Bricks surface.
- Surrounding visuals: It does not promise that adjacent terrain, particles or other snow-related blocks will remain visually unchanged.
- Unusual interactions: No exhaustive matrix covers fluids, explosions, commands, add-ons or future experimental features.
- Future builds: Preview behavior can be revised before a stable release, so later official notes take priority over this introduction.
These are limits on what has been documented, not evidence that Snow Bricks melt. Keep the established statement and the open questions separate.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you do if Snow Bricks are missing from your world?
First identify the build, then investigate content settings. A missing block is more likely to reflect edition or preview availability than a weather effect, because the official introduction does not establish universal release coverage.
- Record the edition shown by the game: Bedrock or Java.
- Record the full version number, including whether it is a preview.
- Compare that number with Bedrock Preview 26.70.22 and the latest official changelog.
- Check whether your world or installation has experimental-content requirements described by the current release notes.
- Only after confirming the correct preview should you investigate inventory search terms or block-menu categories.
Do not use a different snow block as a “replacement” and then draw conclusions about Snow Bricks. A substitute may have different mechanics, forms and availability.
What is the practical verdict for builders?
For the Snow Bricks set documented by Mojang, melting is not a maintenance concern. You can plan outdoor walls, roofs, paths and lit interiors around the four announced forms without assigning them a sunlight or torch threshold. Rain is likewise not described as melting the bricks.
The responsible qualification is version and scope: the evidence comes from Bedrock Preview 26.70.22, not a confirmed stable or Java release, and it covers the brick blocks themselves. Keep separate snow layers and other weather-driven appearance changes as independent questions until Mojang documents them.
How did Mojang describe the preview?
The changelog is an invitation to explore an upcoming drop, including the line, “Test more of the upcoming game drop’s features!” That language signals preview status, while the separate behavior bullet supplies the useful mechanic: “Does not melt.” Read those two pieces together: the non-melting rule is official for the preview, but the feature’s final availability and any later refinements still depend on future release notes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Snow Bricks be crafted in survival mode?
The preview introduction lists the blocks and their forms but does not publish a crafting recipe or acquisition method. Do not assume a recipe, loot source or trading option until the recipe is documented for your exact build.
Are Snow Bricks stronger than stone or other brick blocks?
No comparative durability, hardness or blast-resistance figures are provided in the announcement. Their confirmed distinction is decorative identity and non-melting behavior, not a defensive-stat advantage.
Can commands or add-ons change how Snow Bricks behave?
The official note describes default preview behavior and does not cover command modifications or add-on scripting. Treat customized worlds as a separate case and check the documentation for the specific add-on or command set.
When will Snow Bricks arrive in the stable game?
The cited announcement gives a Bedrock Preview build and its October 28, 2026 publication date, but no stable-release date. Mojang’s later release notes are the authority for a final rollout.
