There is no verified download-size figure for Slime Rancher 2 on Nintendo Switch 2 as of October 30, 2026. Nintendo announced that the port will launch in January 2027, but its announcement did not state a file size or exact release day. Do not use 1.1 GB, 8 GB, or the console’s 256 GB capacity as a substitute for the missing Switch 2 requirement.

No Switch 2 storage requirement has been published for Slime Rancher 2. Nintendo’s October 28, 2026 announcement says, “Slime Rancher 2 launches for Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2027,” but gives neither an installed-size figure nor a specific day in January. That means any answer such as “it needs 5 GB” or “it needs 10 GB” would be a prediction, not an established requirement. The safest answer for purchasing decisions is to wait for the sequel’s own eShop page and use the required-space field shown there. The field may appear only once Nintendo has created the regional product listing. Check the listing for your account’s country or region, because eShop pages can differ by market and can be updated as launch information changes.
Which storage figures are often mistaken for the sequel’s size?
Three real figures are associated with related products or hardware, but none answers the question of how much space the Switch 2 version of Slime Rancher 2 needs.

Using the PC figure as a forecast is especially unreliable. A console build can package assets differently, include platform-specific compression, or receive a different update structure. There is no published basis for converting the 8 GB Windows requirement into a Switch 2 estimate.
How do you check the correct size when the eShop listing appears?
Use the sequel’s own product page, not a search result for the first game or a PC storefront. The process is:

- Search for Slime Rancher 2 and confirm that the title is the Switch 2 version announced for January 2027.
- Find the listing’s required-space or software-size field. Record that figure together with the date you checked it.
- Open System Settings > Data Management and compare the requirement with the free space shown on your console.
- If the available space is lower, free space before purchasing or choose compatible expansion storage. Recheck the listing close to launch if Nintendo changes the product page.

Do you need a microSD Express card?
Not necessarily. You can install software in the console’s internal storage, provided the eShop requirement fits the space currently available. If internal storage is occupied by other games, updates, or downloadable content, a compatible microSD Express card can provide additional space for downloaded software.

Switch 2 uses microSD Express for downloaded games, updates, and DLC. Ordinary microSD cards are not the appropriate expansion format for Switch 2 software. Save data remains in the console’s system memory rather than on the expansion card, so adding a card expands software capacity but does not relocate save data. Nintendo documents the storage rules in its Switch 2 storage support page.
Because the sequel’s size is not known, there is no evidence-based card capacity to prescribe specifically for Slime Rancher 2. Choose expansion size only after the official requirement is available and after accounting for the other software you expect to keep installed.

How can you make room without losing your save?
Nintendo provides two ways to remove installed software while retaining its save data. Use the route that matches how much control you want over the cleanup.
Delete one game from its software options
- Highlight the game on the HOME Menu.
- Press the + or − button to open Software Options.
- Select Manage Software, then Delete Software.
- Confirm the deletion. The installed program is removed, while Nintendo says its save data is preserved.
Remove several titles with Quick Delete
- Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Select Data Management.
- Choose Quick Delete.
- Select the software to remove and confirm.
These commands free installation space; they do not establish how large Slime Rancher 2 will be. Before deleting anything, identify games you can redownload or archive later and avoid deleting save data itself if you intend to continue those games.

What should you reserve for updates and downloadable content?
Until Nintendo posts a number, reserve at least the amount shown in the sequel’s required-space field rather than an arbitrary round number. Keep in mind that the installed footprint can change after launch as updates or DLC are added, and the console may need temporary working space while software is installed or updated. The exact amount of that additional space has not been published for this game.
A practical launch-day check is to open Data Management immediately before downloading, confirm free space, and install to internal storage or a microSD Express card with enough room. When does the Switch 2 version release?
Nintendo has announced January 2027 for the Switch 2 launch, but not a precise day. The game should therefore not be described as still being in early access solely because the Switch 2 edition is arriving later. What is the most accurate answer right now?
There is no defensible GB answer for Slime Rancher 2 on Switch 2 yet. The 1.1 GB figure belongs to the first game’s Plortable Edition, 8 GB belongs to the Windows PC requirement, and 256 GB describes the console’s nominal capacity. None should be presented as the sequel’s Switch 2 download size.
