To stop Siri AI from keeping conversations indefinitely, change two separate settings on your iPhone. First, open Settings > Siri > Keep Conversations and choose 30 Days (the shortest available period) or 1 Year. Apple says conversations older than the selected period are permanently deleted. Next, remove chats already listed in the Siri app and turn off Improve Siri & Dictation or Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence under Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements. The retention setting controls visible Siri history on the device; the improvement switch controls optional use of future requests. Neither setting promises that every previously reviewed or de-identified Apple record disappears immediately.
How do I stop Siri from saving my conversations?
Use the shortest conversation-retention period, delete existing chats manually, and opt out of Apple’s optional improvement programs. These actions address different stores of data, so changing only one leaves another control unchanged.

- Set Keep Conversations to 30 Days in Settings > Siri.
- Delete conversations already visible in the Siri app.
- Turn off Improve Siri & Dictation or Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
Apple’s menu wording differs by iOS release and by whether your phone presents Siri or Apple Intelligence controls. Choose the equivalent label that appears on your device. The first setting governs the history you can browse in the Siri app; the third governs optional collection for service improvement. Apple describes request-history retention separately from the on-device conversation list.
How do I make Siri auto-delete chats after 30 days?
Open Settings > Siri > Keep Conversations, then select 30 Days. Apple says this permanently deletes conversations older than 30 days; it is the closest built-in option to continuous automatic cleanup.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Siri. On some software versions the section may use an Apple Intelligence-related label.
- Tap Keep Conversations.
- Select 30 Days.
The period is an age threshold, not a daily purge button. A conversation remains available until it becomes older than the selected period, so a chat made yesterday will not disappear today. The setting also does not necessarily remove a chat the instant you change the option; use the Siri app’s delete command for immediate removal of anything you do not want listed.
Apple documents only the 30-day and one-year choices in this control. If you want a longer archive, choose 1 Year; if your priority is limiting exposure, choose 30 days and delete sensitive conversations as soon as you finish with them. There is no documented “delete after every request” option in this menu.
How do I delete existing Siri AI history immediately?
Delete the conversation from the Siri app. Automatic expiry affects older items over time, while manual deletion removes the selected item from the visible on-device list now.
Delete one conversation
- Open the Siri app and locate the conversation.
- Touch and hold that conversation.
- Tap Delete and confirm if prompted.
Delete several conversations
- In the Siri app, tap the options button.
- Choose Select.
- Mark each conversation you want to remove.
- Tap the trash button and confirm.
Manual deletion changes the history displayed by the Siri app. It is not the same as opting out of Apple’s improvement programs, so complete the privacy switch in Analytics & Improvements as well if you do not want future requests included in those programs.
How do I stop Apple using future Siri requests to improve its systems?
Turn off the improvement switch available on your iPhone under Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements. Depending on the software and device, the switch is named Improve Siri & Dictation or Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Analytics & Improvements.
- Turn off the Siri-related improvement switch shown there.
Apple treats this as an optional participation choice. Disabling it stops future participation in the corresponding improvement program; it does not act as a retroactive delete command for data Apple may already have received, reviewed, or de-identified. Keep Conversations and this switch should therefore be considered separate steps in a privacy cleanup.

When the label includes Apple Intelligence, Apple says audio, transcripts, and conversations may be used to improve Siri and train Apple foundation models while the option is enabled. When the label mentions Siri & Dictation, Apple describes the same kind of optional use for Siri and Dictation interactions. Select the switch that actually appears on your phone rather than looking for both names.
Does turning off Improve Siri delete what Apple already has?
No. Turning off Improve Siri & Dictation or Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence changes future optional collection; it does not promise immediate erasure of historical records already processed under the program.
Apple’s current privacy descriptions say request history can include audio, transcripts, and related request data. With Improve Siri and Dictation enabled, Apple says this material may be retained and used for up to two years. With Improve Siri and Apple Intelligence enabled, Apple gives the same up-to-two-year period for audio, transcripts, and conversations used to improve Siri and train Apple foundation models. In both descriptions, Apple notes that a small subset selected for review may be kept beyond two years for ongoing improvement.
Those statements are retention limits and handling descriptions, not a promise that every item is erased the moment you flip the switch. Apple does not state that every previously reviewed or de-identified record disappears immediately after opting out. To reduce what remains under your control, delete visible Siri chats, choose 30 Days, and then disable the improvement program.

The answer depends on whether you mean the conversation list on your iPhone or data submitted through an optional improvement program. Apple describes the following handling for the latter:
| Control or data set | What it covers | Retention described by Apple | What changing the setting does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keep Conversations | Conversations displayed in the Siri app on the iPhone | Choosing 30 Days or 1 Year permanently deletes conversations older than that selected period | Sets automatic expiry for the visible on-device history; it is not an opt-out from improvement collection |
| Improve Siri & Dictation | Request history that can contain audio, transcripts, and related request data | Up to two years when enabled; a small reviewed subset may remain longer | Stops optional future participation; it is not an immediate purge of prior records |
| Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence | Audio, transcripts, and conversations used to improve Siri and train Apple foundation models | Up to two years when enabled; a small reviewed subset may remain longer | Stops optional future participation under this program; historical reviewed or de-identified data may not disappear immediately |
| Siri request-history identifier | An identifier associated with request history | Apple says the identifier is random, generated by the device, and rotates multiple times per hour | Turning off the improvement switch does not rewrite records already handled under the earlier setting |
Apple also says Siri request history is not used to build a marketing profile and is never sold. The rotating identifier is not tied to an Apple Account or email address, according to Apple’s privacy explanation. Those statements describe how Apple says it handles request history; they do not make the on-device Keep Conversations setting unnecessary.

Should I disable Siri and Dictation entirely?
If you do not want Siri or Dictation interactions stored on the device for personalization, disable both features. Apple’s privacy instructions say the transcripts stored on the device for personalization are deleted when Siri and Dictation are both disabled.
- Open Settings and go to the Siri settings.
- Turn off the control that disables Siri.
- Return to Settings > General > Keyboard.
- Turn off Enable Dictation.
Disabling only Siri is not the same as disabling Dictation. Dictation has its own keyboard setting, so a person who wants both services off must change both locations. This is the broadest option and removes the convenience of voice requests and keyboard dictation, so use it only if that trade-off fits your needs.

Deleting chats is an immediate, local history action; opting out is a forward-looking data-use choice. Use both when your goal is to minimize both what remains visible on the phone and what may be collected for optional improvement.
| Action | Scope | Timing | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Delete one or more chats in the Siri app | Selected conversations in the visible Siri history | Immediate after confirmation | Removes continuity from those chats but leaves the improvement-program choice unchanged |
| Set Keep Conversations to 30 Days | Older conversations in the Siri app | Automatic when they pass the 30-day threshold | Shorter history and less on-device continuity |
| Set Keep Conversations to 1 Year | Older conversations in the Siri app | Automatic when they pass the one-year threshold | More continuity, with a longer visible retention period |
| Turn off Improve Siri & Dictation or Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence | Optional Apple improvement collection for future interactions | Applies going forward | Reduces optional sharing for improvement, while historical handling follows Apple’s existing retention policies |
| Turn off Siri and Enable Dictation | Siri and Dictation features, plus on-device personalization transcripts | After both controls are disabled | Maximum reduction in local voice features, but no Siri requests or keyboard dictation |
Why are the menu names different on my iPhone?
Apple changes labels according to iOS version and whether the device uses the Siri-only or Apple Intelligence terminology. The relevant locations remain the Siri settings for conversation retention and Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements for optional improvement collection.
You may see Improve Siri & Dictation on one device and Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence on another. These are not two switches that must always be present together. Use the one your device provides, and confirm that Keep Conversations is set separately under Siri settings. If a menu is absent, check that the phone is running a current iOS release and that you are looking under the exact top-level category shown above; Apple’s labels can change between releases.
What is the most privacy-focused Siri cleanup sequence?
Follow this order if you want to remove the visible history first and then prevent optional future collection.

- Open the Siri app and delete individual conversations or use options > Select to remove several at once.
- Go to Settings > Siri > Keep Conversations and choose 30 Days.
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements and turn off the Siri-related improvement switch.
- If you want no Siri or Dictation personalization transcripts on the device, disable Siri and then turn off Settings > General > Keyboard > Enable Dictation.
- Reopen the Siri settings and verify that the retention period and improvement switch still show the choices you intended.
This sequence separates immediate deletion, automatic expiry, optional server-side improvement participation, and complete feature shutdown. Each step addresses a different layer rather than duplicating the same command.

I changed the retention period but old chats are still visible
Keep Conversations is an age-based rule, not an instant clear button. Delete the visible items manually in the Siri app if you need them gone now, then leave the 30-day setting enabled for future expiry.
I cannot find “Improve Siri & Dictation”
Look under Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements for the Apple Intelligence wording instead. Apple’s label depends on the device and software version, so the equivalent switch may not use the word Dictation.
I turned off improvement but Siri history remains
The improvement switch and the Siri app’s conversation list are separate. Delete the conversations in the app and set Keep Conversations to 30 Days; opting out alone does not clear the visible list.
I disabled Siri but Dictation transcripts remain
Dictation has an independent control. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard and turn off Enable Dictation as well. Apple’s stated deletion of on-device personalization transcripts applies when both Siri and Dictation are disabled.
I want a permanent archive instead
The documented choices are 30 Days and 1 Year. Choose 1 Year if you need longer continuity, but understand that it is still an automatic expiry period rather than an unlimited archive. Exporting or copying a conversation elsewhere would create another copy outside Siri’s retention controls, so do that only when you have a deliberate reason.

What should you choose?
For most privacy-conscious iPhone owners, set Keep Conversations to 30 Days, delete the current Siri history, and turn off the applicable improvement switch. If you never use voice assistance or keyboard dictation, disabling both Siri and Dictation also removes the on-device personalization transcripts Apple describes. Apple’s policies limit and describe retention for optional improvement data, but they do not promise instant disappearance of every previously reviewed or de-identified record, so the strongest practical approach combines all of the controls that match your privacy goal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I keep Siri useful without keeping a year of visible history?
Yes. Choose 30 Days instead of 1 Year, then delete individual chats whenever a conversation is especially sensitive. This preserves access to recent history while avoiding a long on-device archive.
Does the 30-day setting also control keyboard Dictation history?
No. Keep Conversations applies to Siri conversations shown in the Siri app. Dictation has its own setting under Settings > General > Keyboard, and Apple describes on-device Siri and Dictation transcripts together only when both features are disabled.
Will Apple send me a confirmation that older improvement records were erased?
Apple’s published descriptions provide retention periods and identifier handling, not an individual deletion receipt. Turning off an improvement switch is therefore a prevention step for future participation rather than a documented, instant confirmation for every historical record.
Why does my iPhone show Apple Intelligence instead of Siri and Dictation?
Apple uses different labels by device and software version. Use the Siri-related switch that appears under Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements; you do not need to find both names.
