Buy now if your current device is failing or a model available today solves a real need; wait only when you can comfortably defer and an announced successor or software feature offers something you specifically want. As of October 7, 2026, Apple has released new products in several—but not all—families. There is no confirmed next-release date for every Apple category, so a blanket prediction about what is coming next would be unreliable.
Start with the product you actually need
“An Apple device” could mean an iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, or AirPods. Their release timing and the value of an upgrade differ. First identify the problem you need to solve: a failing phone, a Mac that cannot handle your workload, a watch feature you need, or simply a preference for newer hardware.

- Buy now: Your current device is failing, no longer supports a task you depend on, or is materially limiting work or accessibility. Compare available models rather than delaying for a date Apple has not announced.
- Consider waiting: Your device works, you can defer the purchase without meaningful cost, and a specific announced successor or confirmed software feature would improve how you use it.
- Do not wait on a vague annual-cycle assumption: Recent announcements do not establish a reliable schedule for every product family.
What Apple has released in 2026
Apple announced products across several families this year, but that does not mean every Apple device was refreshed. These examples establish what is available according to Apple’s announcements; they do not by themselves show that any one model is the best choice for you.

Decide whether an announced change matters to you
A new model is a reason to compare, not an automatic reason to upgrade. Match the change to the job you need done. A camera improvement matters more to someone who regularly takes photos than to someone who barely uses the camera; desktop performance matters only if your work benefits from it.

- For an Apple Watch: Compare the stated battery figures and intended use with your routine, while treating “up to” figures as manufacturer estimates rather than guaranteed runtime.
- For a Mac: Choose based on workload, portability, configuration, and local price. A desktop and a laptop solve different problems; a new chip alone does not establish that you need to replace a working computer.
- For other devices: Check the exact model and the feature or compatibility change you would gain. The announcements above do not establish a new release date for every Apple product family.
Account for iOS 27 and other software updates
Apple previewed iOS 27 and related platform releases at WWDC26, including a next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. Apple said new features would arrive as free software updates in fall 2026, subject to device, language, and regional limitations and possible changes. Check Apple’s WWDC26 preview for the announcement, then verify whether the particular feature has shipped and works on your device, in your language, and in your region before delaying a purchase for it.
Compare the full cost of buying now with the cost of waiting
Before deciding, compare the exact configuration you would buy with the value of keeping your current device for longer. A headline starting price may not match the storage or configuration you need, and prices, trade-in offers, taxes, carrier terms, and education discounts vary by country and eligibility.

- Check trade-in eligibility and the actual offer for your device. Apple says customers can apply trade-in value toward a new device online or at an Apple Store, but the value depends on the individual offer and eligibility.
- Include the practical cost of waiting: repair expense, lost time, reduced capability, or accessibility limitations if your current device is not meeting your needs.
- Compare only improvements relevant to your use, such as battery life, camera, performance, portability, or storage.
Apple’s September US desktop prices and March Ireland prices illustrate why a single quoted price cannot stand in for every market. Recheck availability and the exact price where you plan to buy.
When is the next Apple release?
There is no confirmed date in the available Apple announcements for the next unreleased device across every category. If Apple has not officially announced the product and timing you care about, treat its release date as unknown rather than planning around a predicted schedule. The practical choice is to buy a suitable available model when waiting has a real cost, or defer when it does not and a confirmed, relevant announcement gives you a reason to do so.
