No—shiny Eternatus is not available in Pokémon GO as of 30 October 2026, so there are no shiny odds to roll. The November Dynamax Trails event offers eligible Trainers one encounter with regular Eternatus, while Eternamax appears as a Max Battle boss that cannot be caught. The official event announcement does not say Eternatus will be shiny; its separate shiny notice applies to three other Pokémon.
Can Eternatus be shiny in Pokémon GO?
No. As of 30 October 2026, Eternatus has not been released as a shiny in Pokémon GO. A shiny sprite or model in game-reference material does not make a Pokémon available: only species whose shiny forms have been released can appear shiny in GO. The current released-shiny catalogue has no Eternatus entry.

This is not a case where the shiny is extremely rare or limited to a particular raid tier. The shiny is not in the available pool, so an encounter cannot produce one under the current rules. A future release would be a new event announcement, not a hidden chance attached to the existing encounter.
The Pokémon GO team’s 28 October 2026 Dynamax Trails announcement is the most current official information for the event. It says Trainers can encounter Eternatus through the GO Pass, but does not say that this Eternatus can be shiny. The same announcement explicitly says, “If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny one!” about Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble during their 19 November Spotlight Hour. That shiny language is about those three Pokémon, not Eternatus.

Whether shiny Eternatus will be added during Dynamax Trails is unannounced as of 30 October. Treat claims that it is coming in November as speculation unless the Pokémon GO team makes a new announcement.
What are the Eternatus shiny odds in Pokémon GO?
There is no current shiny rate for Eternatus because it cannot be shiny in GO. The often-quoted 1-in-20 figure for eligible five-star raid Legendaries does not apply to Eternatus, and beating an Eternamax boss does not create a catch encounter that could roll for a shiny.
For context only, community estimates reported by Bulbapedia, GoNews Advanced, and Joystick Insider in 2026 put the base wild rate for eligible species at about 1 in 512. Their estimates vary by encounter method: roughly 1 in 64 for eligible one- to three-star Max Battles and non-five-star raids; around 1 in 20 for eligible five- to six-star Max Battles and five-star raids; about 1 in 25 on Community Day; and about 1 in 10 during Raid, Hatch, or Research Day. These are community estimates, not official Scopely rates, and none describes an Eternatus encounter today.
Pokémon GO does not publish a standing official table of exact shiny odds. If Eternatus is eventually released shiny, the event announcement will need to establish whether its pass encounter is shiny-eligible and whether it has any special conditions. A one-per-account encounter would be one opportunity unless the announcement specifies a guaranteed shiny or another way to obtain additional eligible encounters.
How do you get Eternatus in Pokémon GO in 2026?
The announced route is the GO Pass: Dynamax Trails, which runs from 16 November at 10:00 a.m. through 23 November 2026 at 8:00 p.m. local time. The free pass is automatic; Trainers who already caught Eternatus receive Candy instead of a second encounter. These are the announced rules as of 30 October 2026, and they do not include a shiny Eternatus.

For a first-time catch
- Open Pokémon GO during the event and access the automatically available GO Pass: Dynamax Trails.
- Progress through the pass to its Eternatus encounter reward. The 28 October event announcement says the pass grants an encounter with Eternatus if the account has not already caught it.
- Claim the encounter before event rewards expire on 25 November 2026 at 8:00 p.m. local time. The encounter is a single account-level catch, not a repeatable raid reward.
There is an early-access exception: Trainers who claimed Tier 1 on GO Pass: Into the Wild can access the Dynamax Trails pass, including a free Deluxe upgrade, beginning 14 November at 10:00 a.m. local time. The main event still begins on 16 November.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a returning Trainer who already caught Eternatus
The pass gives 100 Eternatus Candy instead of another encounter. In its announcement, the Pokémon GO team states, “Eternatus can only be caught once during this event,” and says previous owners can continue with their Pokémon and receive Candy to power it up. This is not a second catch, and it does not provide another chance to roll for a shiny.
What the paid Deluxe track changes
GO Pass Deluxe: Dynamax Trails costs US$4.99, according to Pokémon GO’s 2026 event information, checked October 2026. It adds rewards such as more Eternatus Candy and Candy XL, Silver Pinap Berries, Rare Candy XL, and additional Dynamax encounters with Special Backgrounds. The Web Store version also includes 10 Ultra Balls, five Max Revives, one Premium Battle Pass, and five Max Potions. Nothing in the Deluxe reward description makes Eternatus shiny-eligible or offers a second Eternatus catch.
The event runs through 23 November at 8:00 p.m. local time, but its unclaimed rewards expire on 25 November at 8:00 p.m. local time. Field Research during the event can also award Eternatus Candy. The announced Dynamax Trails schedule includes a 19 November Spotlight Hour from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. local time for Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble; the shiny notice applies to those featured Pokémon, not to Eternatus.
Can you catch Eternamax Eternatus?
No. Eternamax Eternatus is a Power Spot Max Battle boss, not a form you can add to your storage. Defeating it awards Eternatus Candy and Candy XL, then the boss disappears; there is no catch screen. Your own regular Eternatus does not transform into Eternamax, even during a Max Battle Max Phase.

During Dynamax Trails, Eternamax is scheduled to take over most Power Spots on 21 November 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time. The Pokémon GO team specifically says Trainers will not be able to catch Eternamax after defeating it. Bulbapedia lists the boss at 60,000 HP in GO and no catch CP, which reflects its boss-only status rather than a collectible form.
The visual presentation can be confusing: the GO Pass catch encounter shows Eternatus in its Eternamax appearance, but after capture it permanently reverts to the standard Eternatus form. That animation is not a second form in your Pokémon storage.
The 2025 GO Fest Max Finale used the same separation: Trainers encountered collectible Eternatus through the GO Pass and fought Eternamax in Max Battles for Candy and Candy XL. The 2026 event repeats the distinction rather than adding a catchable Eternamax.
What is the difference between regular Eternatus and Eternamax?
Regular Eternatus is the Pokémon you keep from the GO Pass; Eternamax is a temporary-looking raid boss presentation. The shiny Eternatus that was distributed for the console games is separate from both and is not available in GO.
| Form or version | Can you keep it? | How it appears | Shiny status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular Eternatus in Pokémon GO | Yes; one catch per account under the 2026 event rules | GO Pass encounter; reverts to the standard form after capture | Not released in GO as of 30 October 2026 |
| Eternamax Eternatus in Pokémon GO | No | Power Spot Max Battle boss; rewards Candy and Candy XL | Not a catchable Pokémon in GO |
| Shiny Eternatus in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield | Yes, in those games | Official Mystery Gift distribution in 2022–23 | Historically distributed for the Switch games, not Pokémon GO |
Regular Eternatus is a Poison- and Dragon-type Legendary with no evolution line. Bulbapedia’s 2026 GO figures give it Attack 278, Defense 192, and HP 268, with a maximum CP of 4,429 at Level 40 and 5,007 at Level 50. Its moves include Dragon Tail and Poison Jab, with Sludge Bomb, Dragon Pulse, Flamethrower, and Dynamax Cannon as charged moves. Every caught Eternatus knows Dynamax Cannon and cannot forget it.

Eternatus itself cannot Dynamax, though it can be used in Max Battles. It cannot be placed at a Power Spot after a win. Dynamax Cannon is also its Max Move; its Adventure Effect temporarily boosts a Pokémon’s Max Moves by one level in Max Battles for 10 minutes. Activating the effect costs 5,000 Stardust and 30 Eternatus Candy, according to the Pokémon GO team’s 2025 announcement. It can be extended up to 24 hours, cannot overlap another Adventure Effect, and the 2026 pass reduces the activation cost by half at Rank 35.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why does Eternatus take so much Candy to power up?
Eternatus has an unusually large Candy cost, so the event’s Candy rewards matter more to long-term investment than to shiny hunting. The following figures are estimates or totals published in 2026 by the named sources, not a guarantee of how much Candy any individual Trainer will earn from the 2026 event.
- PoKeep’s 2026 calculation from the in-game power-up table puts the cost to raise the Level 15 pass encounter to Level 40 at 8,900 Eternatus Candy.
- PoKeep and Pokémon GO Hub list 8,900 Candy XL to take it from Level 40 to Level 50. Pokémon GO Hub gives the Level 15-to-50 total as 8,900 Candy plus 8,900 Candy XL.
- Pokémon GO Hub estimates another 8,000 Candy and 960 Candy XL to raise Dynamax Cannon, Max Guard, and Max Spirit to Level 3. Its combined fully invested attacker-and-moves total is 16,900 Candy and 9,860 Candy XL.
- PoKeep reports player-observed 2025 Eternamax win rewards of roughly 70–140 Candy and 40–60 Candy XL per win. Those are player reports from the 2025 event; official 2026 per-win amounts have not been stated.
The 2026 official announcement confirms that Eternamax wins provide Candy and Candy XL but does not state exact quantities. Treating a win as a guaranteed amount based on 2025 reports would overstate what is known about the upcoming event.

PoKeep reports player consensus that this is a poor use of Rare Candy compared with other Legendaries because the Eternatus investment is so large; that is community advice, not an official rule. Consider whether you need the powered-up attacker and its Max Moves before spending scarce universal Candy.
In 2025, Dynamax Cannon’s Adventure Effect cost 5,000 Stardust and 30 Eternatus Candy for each 10-minute activation. The 2026 pass’s Rank 35 benefit halves those activation costs. That temporary effect is a separate resource decision from leveling Eternatus or upgrading its Max Moves.

Can you trade Eternatus in Pokémon GO?
No. Eternatus cannot be traded or transferred in Pokémon GO, and it cannot be moved through the GO Transporter to Pokémon HOME, according to Bulbapedia’s GO information. That removes trading as a way to obtain a shiny, even if another player claims to have one.
Listings that offer “Eternatus for sale” by handing over an account are account sales, not legitimate Pokémon trades, and violate Pokémon GO’s Terms of Service. They also do not create a shiny Eternatus within the game’s released shiny pool.
Where has shiny Eternatus actually been available?
The official shiny Eternatus distribution was for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield on Nintendo Switch, not Pokémon GO. The Pokémon Company released those games on 15 November 2019; the Level 100 “Galar’s Shiny Eternatus” Mystery Gift ran from 16 September 2022 through 1 January 2023, according to Bulbapedia’s distribution record.
In Sword and Shield, Eternatus is encountered in the story at the Tower Summit, while Eternamax is fought during the climax and is not a keepable form there either. The 2022–23 Mystery Gift was a distinct event distribution of shiny Eternatus. It does not unlock or transfer a shiny into Pokémon GO.
For GO players, the practical distinction is simple: the pass can provide regular Eternatus, and Eternamax battles provide resources, but neither gives a shiny under the rules announced as of 30 October 2026. A different answer requires a new Pokémon GO shiny-release announcement.
Frequently Asked Questions
What type is Eternatus, and what is it weak to in Pokémon GO?
Regular Eternatus is Poison/Dragon-type. It is weak to Ground, Psychic, Ice, and Dragon attacks; Fairy damage is neutral because its Poison resistance and Dragon weakness cancel each other.
