Yes—if your priorities are a low price, an easy smart interface and balanced everyday picture quality. The Sharp HJ6725KB (model 4T-C50HJ6725K/50HJ6725K) is a 50-inch 4K QLED/LCD Roku TV with Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG and Freely. Its Standard picture mode measured a useful 265cd/m², Movie mode produced accurate colour, and Game mode delivered 13.3ms input lag. At the same time, its 60Hz panel has no VRR, HDR brightness is modest, viewing angles are narrow and the speakers have limited bass. Prices captured for UK retailers ranged from about £299 to £350, so its value depends on the live price. For a straightforward living-room TV or casual console gaming, it gets the fundamentals right; it is not a replacement for a brighter, 120Hz television or a wide-seating home cinema display.
What is the Sharp HJ6725KB?
The HJ6725KB is Sharp’s 50-inch 4K Roku television, sold under the model numbers 4T-C50HJ6725K and 50HJ6725K. It uses a 3840 × 2160 LCD panel with a quantum-dot (QLED) colour layer, a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz and Roku TV as its smart platform. Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG are supported, as is Freely, the UK streaming service that carries most Freeview HD channels over broadband.

Sharp specifies three HDMI 2.1 inputs, two USB ports, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, optical digital audio, a 3.5mm headphone socket and a legacy three-RCA composite/component-style input. The supplied VESA mounting pattern is 400 × 300mm. Bluetooth is not supported.
That specification makes the set unusually complete for a budget 50-inch model. The important qualification is that “HDMI 2.1” describes the input hardware; the 60Hz panel cannot display 120-frame-per-second console output and there is no variable-refresh-rate (VRR) support.

How much does the Sharp HJ6725KB cost?
Expect the price to move rather than remain at one fixed list figure. Expert Reviews tested it at £350, while online listings captured for the same television included about £299; a Currys listing showed £299.99 against a former £399.99 price. Those are retailer listings at the time of capture, not a guaranteed permanent price, so check the current price and stock before ordering.

| About £299 | Prices seen at some online retailers. |
| £299.99 | Captured Currys listing; the page also showed a former £399.99 price. |
At roughly £300, the HJ6725KB competes directly with the Samsung U8000H (£299), Hisense A6S (£319) and Toshiba UF2653DB (£349) prices cited in the review. Retail prices change, and those comparison figures should be treated as reference points rather than current quotes.

Is the design practical for a stand or wall mount?
The television is light and easy to handle, but its mostly plastic construction and angular feet clearly target affordability. The lower rear section protrudes, so check the bracket depth and wall clearance before mounting: a shallow, close-to-wall bracket may not sit as neatly as expected.
The 400 × 300mm VESA pattern is widely supported by universal mounts. Select a mount rated above the television’s weight, confirm that it supports 400 × 300mm hole spacing and use the correct screw length. If the set is going on furniture, measure the stand footprint and the cabinet width first; the angled feet can require a wider surface than a central pedestal.
Which connections are available?
- Three HDMI inputs for consoles, streaming boxes, soundbars and other sources.
- Two USB ports for compatible media playback or powered accessories.
- Optical digital audio for a soundbar or receiver without HDMI ARC/eARC.
- A 3.5mm headphone output for wired headphones or powered speakers.
- Ethernet and Wi-Fi for Roku and Freely streaming.
- Three RCA connections for older analogue video/audio equipment.
There is no Bluetooth, so wireless headphones or Bluetooth speakers cannot pair directly with the TV. Use a wired connection or an external Bluetooth transmitter connected to an audio output if wireless listening is essential.
How good is the Roku smart-TV experience?
Roku TV is the HJ6725KB’s strongest convenience feature. Initial setup is straightforward, menus are uncluttered and the platform provides a broad selection of international and UK streaming applications. The lightweight Roku-style remote is plasticky but logically laid out, and the set can also be controlled through the Roku mobile app.

Can it be controlled by voice or a phone?
In addition to the physical remote and Roku app, the television works with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple AirPlay and Google Home integrations. Availability of individual voice commands can depend on the account, device and region, so treat these as control integrations rather than a promise that every function is voice-operated.
Does Freely mean you can use the TV without an aerial?
Usually, yes. Freely can live-stream most Freeview HD channels through the television’s broadband connection, so you can watch those channels without connecting a roof or indoor aerial. You still need a reliable internet connection and a Freely-supported service area; broadband outages will affect live channels.
An aerial remains useful for households that want conventional terrestrial reception, a backup when broadband fails or channels that are not included in the Freely line-up. During setup, connect the TV to Wi-Fi or Ethernet, open the Freely service and follow its on-screen account and regional prompts. Do not assume that every Freeview channel, local service or catch-up programme is available identically through Freely.
How good is the SDR picture?
Standard-dynamic-range (SDR) performance is unusually balanced for a television at this price. Expert Reviews measured 265cd/m² in Standard mode and 235cd/m² in Movie mode. Standard mode covered 122% of the Rec.709 colour space, while Movie mode covered just under 98% of BT.709.
Standard mode is the brighter, more vivid option for daytime viewing. It retained credible dark-scene handling and natural-looking colour rather than simply pushing saturation. Movie mode is the better choice when accuracy matters: its average greyscale Delta E 2000 measured 2.7 with a two-point adjustment and 2.4 after multipoint measurement, both below the cited threshold at which inaccuracies become readily visible.
| SDR mode | Measured brightness | Colour coverage | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 265cd/m² | 122% of Rec.709 | Brighter rooms and everyday television |
| Movie | 235cd/m² | Just under 98% of BT.709 | More accurate films and drama |
What is the viewing-angle problem?
The panel’s main SDR weakness is off-axis performance. At roughly 15–20 degrees from the centre, saturation and contrast fall substantially. In a narrow seating arrangement, viewers directly in front should see the best image; in a wide room, people at the sides will notice a flatter, less vivid picture. Place the screen squarely opposite the main sofa rather than relying on a wide viewing cone.

How does HDR perform?
The HJ6725KB accepts HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision, but its HDR impact is limited by brightness. Testing reached 270cd/m² peak HDR brightness, with 96% coverage of the P3 colour space. HDR10 clipped bright highlights, meaning detail in very bright clouds, lamps or reflections can disappear.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Dolby Vision Normal mode handled that limitation better than standard HDR10 playback. It reduced clipping, produced more nuanced contrast and delivered warmer colour. Dynamic tone mapping is a welcome feature at this price because it reallocates limited panel brightness to preserve more highlight detail, although it cannot make the set as bright as a premium HDR television.
Are dark scenes accurate in HDR?
HDR black levels are shallower than in SDR, and very dark scenes can show a mild green tint. HDR Dark mode measured well for greyscale, with Delta E 2000 values of 1.4 for two-point and 1.2 for multipoint adjustment; its ColorChecker result was 2.8. Saturation Sweep was weaker at 17.4, indicating that some colours become less consistent across the range.
Fast 24p HDR motion can look slightly soft, and subtle colour textures may appear coarse. These issues are most visible in cinema content with slow pans, fine gradients or demanding shadow detail, rather than in ordinary broadcast television.
Is it suitable for PS5, Xbox or PC gaming?
It is suitable for casual and mainstream console gaming, not for high-refresh competitive play. Game mode measured 13.3ms input response, which is responsive for a 60Hz television, and the set can switch into Game mode automatically. Colours and contrast remain appealing in games.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The 60Hz panel has no VRR, so it cannot synchronise its refresh rate with a fluctuating console frame rate. Rapid pans are less crisp than on a 120Hz screen, and a PS5 or Xbox Series X will be limited to 60Hz output. A PC can use 4K/60Hz, but gamers seeking 120Hz, VRR or the lowest possible latency should choose a different display.

Is the built-in sound good enough?
The integrated speakers produce clear dialogue, a rounded tone and enough volume to avoid obvious distortion or crackling in normal programmes. News, sitcoms and everyday streaming are intelligible without an immediate need for extra equipment.
The soundstage is modest and bass lacks depth. Action-film mixes flatten when the speakers approach their limits, so explosions and orchestral scores do not have the scale of a soundbar or separate speakers. Optical audio and HDMI connections make adding a soundbar practical; remember that the television itself has no Bluetooth for wireless audio.
What are the main strengths and weaknesses?
| Strengths | Compromises |
|---|---|
| Balanced SDR colour and useful brightness for the price | HDR peak brightness is only 270cd/m² |
| Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG support | HDR10 can clip bright highlights |
| Simple Roku interface with broad app coverage | Recommendations and discovery are basic |
| Freely can provide most Freeview HD channels without an aerial | Broadband is required for Freely live streams |
| 13.3ms Game-mode response | No VRR and no 120Hz mode |
| Three HDMI inputs, two USB and optical audio | No Bluetooth |
| Clear dialogue from the built-in speakers | Limited bass and a small soundstage |
| Lightweight body and standard 400 × 300mm VESA mounting | Rear protrusion can complicate close wall mounting |
| Good central viewing performance | Contrast and saturation drop around 15–20 degrees off-axis |
How does it compare with similarly priced televisions?
The review identifies the Samsung U8000H, Hisense A6S and Toshiba UF2653DB as nearby alternatives. The choice is less about a single specification than about which compromise fits your room and habits.

These prices were the figures cited alongside the review, not controlled same-day tests of every rival. Before buying, compare each model’s current price, HDR brightness and accuracy, viewing angle, refresh and VRR support, sound output and connection layout. A cheaper rival may be preferable if it is brighter in your room; a similarly priced one may be less attractive if it lacks the apps or live-channel service you use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should you set it up for the best result?
- Choose the viewing position. Place the screen as close to straight-on as possible because contrast and saturation fall sharply at roughly 15–20 degrees off-axis.
- Connect the network. Use Ethernet for the most stable streaming, or join a reliable 5GHz/2.4GHz Wi-Fi network during Roku setup.
- Decide whether you need an aerial. Use Freely over broadband for most Freeview HD channels; connect an aerial if you need terrestrial reception or a fallback.
- Pick a picture mode. Start with Standard for a brighter daytime image and Movie for more accurate SDR colour in a dimmer room.
- Enable the correct console mode. Connect the console to HDMI, allow automatic Game mode if offered and set the console to 4K/60Hz. Do not expect 120Hz or VRR.
- Configure audio. Use optical or HDMI audio for a soundbar. Use the 3.5mm output for wired headphones; Bluetooth pairing is unavailable.
- Check wall-mount clearance. For a 400 × 300mm mount, verify bracket weight rating, screw fit and clearance around the protruding lower rear section.
Who should buy the Sharp HJ6725KB?
Buy it if you want a 50-inch 4K television around the £300 mark, sit mostly in front of the screen, value Roku’s uncomplicated menus and can use Freely over broadband. It is a particularly sensible fit for general broadcast television, streaming, films viewed from a central sofa and 60Hz console gaming.
Look elsewhere if your seating is spread widely across the room, you expect dramatic HDR highlights, require 120Hz or VRR gaming, need Bluetooth headphones, or want room-filling bass without a soundbar. The recommendation also becomes weaker if the price rises materially above the roughly £299–£350 range captured for this model, because brighter or faster alternatives may then offer better value.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
What is the final verdict?
The HJ6725KB succeeds by avoiding a disastrous weak point: its SDR picture is balanced, its apps are easy to reach, its channel options are practical and its game response is respectable. HDR is supported in all the important formats but remains brightness-limited, while narrow viewing angles, absent VRR, no Bluetooth and modest sound reveal where the savings were made.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAt a live price near £300, it is one of the more convincing low-cost 50-inch Roku choices for a central seating position. Treat it as a well-rounded everyday television rather than a high-end cinema or esports display.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Sharp HJ6725KB record Freeview or Freely programmes?
The documented feature set confirms Freely streaming and conventional inputs, but it does not establish a built-in hard-drive recorder. Plan on using the broadcaster’s catch-up service or a separate recording device if you need scheduled recordings.
Can I use wireless headphones with this Sharp Roku TV?
Not directly: the television does not include Bluetooth. Wired headphones can use the 3.5mm output, while a compatible external Bluetooth transmitter connected to an audio output is the workaround for wireless listening.
Which picture mode should I use for daytime viewing?
Standard mode is the practical daytime choice because it measured 265cd/m², compared with 235cd/m² for Movie mode. Movie mode is preferable when you can reduce room light and want the more accurate SDR calibration.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

No. Although the set has HDMI 2.1 inputs, its panel is limited to 60Hz and it has no VRR, so a PS5 or Xbox Series console will top out at 4K/60Hz on this television.
