The Sennheiser IE 600 is a premium wired in-ear monitor for listeners who prioritize detailed sound, a durable metal housing and detachable cables over Bluetooth, call controls or a low price. It launched in 2022, and its appeal still comes down to fit as much as sound: the textured shell may feel secure to some ears and uncomfortable to others, so trying it on first is wise.
What kind of earphones are the Sennheiser IE 600?
The IE 600 is a wired, single-dynamic-driver in-ear monitor (IEM). Sennheiser launched it in March 2022. Its high-end positioning rests on a combination of a metal alloy shell, replaceable MMCX cables and a sound profile that SoundGuys found closely followed its preferred target through most of the audible range.

This is not a wireless all-purpose headset. The package is built around wired listening, with separate 3.5 mm unbalanced and 4.4 mm balanced cables. There is no Bluetooth connection or microphone/remote for calls in the supplied product description, and SoundGuys lists the IE 600 as not waterproof. Those omissions matter more to some buyers than the sound or materials.
How does the IE 600 sound?
SoundGuys describes the IE 600 as closely tracking its preference curve through the audible range, with a few measured deviations: roughly 3 dB of attenuation around 450 Hz and about 4 dB of underemphasis from 2.5 to 6.5 kHz. These figures describe that publication’s measurements and comparison curve, not a guarantee that every listener will hear the same tonal balance.

In practical terms, the measured profile suggests a mostly even presentation rather than a strongly boosted bass or treble signature. The lower-midrange dip around 450 Hz and the reduced upper-midrange/treble region are the principal departures SoundGuys noted. Whether those changes sound natural, too restrained or simply enjoyable depends on the listener, the music and the fit; an imperfect seal can affect perceived bass in particular.
SoundGuys praised the IE 600’s sound quality, but a review’s preference curve is not a universal definition of “neutral.” If you are sensitive to upper-midrange or treble balance, or have a specific target in mind, auditioning the earphones is more useful than treating a graph as a verdict. The official specification gives a frequency-response range of 4–46,500 Hz, but that range alone does not describe how strongly each frequency is reproduced.

Are the IE 600 comfortable and secure?
The over-ear cable routing helps keep the IE 600 stable in the ear. Each earpiece weighs 6 g according to SoundGuys, but weight is only one part of comfort: the shell is textured, and its shape can press against some listeners’ conchas or feel rough against the ear.

That makes fit unusually important for a product at this price. The IE 600 comes with silicone and memory-foam tips in three sizes. A properly sized tip can improve the seal and stability; foam may also block more external noise for some listeners. Tip material and size are personal, so a secure fit with one combination should not be assumed for every ear.
- Check the shell contact: notice whether the textured housing rubs or creates pressure, rather than judging comfort only during a quick first listen.
- Try more than one tip size and material: a poor seal can undermine both comfort and sound.
- Test over-ear routing: the cable is designed to route over the ear, which helps stability but may take getting used to.
What is the IE 600 made of, and what comes in the box?
The housings use an amorphous zirconium alloy identified by Sennheiser as ZR01. That construction distinguishes the IE 600 from the less expensive IE 300, which is described as having a plastic body. The shell is a durability-oriented design choice, but no independent long-term failure-rate statistic is available to quantify how it compares in years of use.
The package includes:
- One 3.5 mm unbalanced cable and one 4.4 mm balanced cable
- Silicone and memory-foam ear tips, each in three sizes
- A carrying case
- A cleaning tool
The detachable cable connects through Fidelity+ MMCX connectors, so a damaged cable can be replaced without replacing the earpieces. Replacement cables need to be compatible with the connector and the way the earphones are worn. The removable tips can also be replaced as they wear or if another size suits you better.

Sennheiser’s specification page lists the following figures. Sensitivity is specified at the stated test conditions, and the distortion figure is likewise tied to its stated level and frequency; these are not interchangeable with real-world listening measurements.

The 25 dB attenuation figure is a published attenuation specification, not a claim of active noise cancellation. The product is a passive wired IEM; the fit and tips determine how much outside sound is blocked in a particular situation.
How much does the IE 600 cost?
Reported list prices vary by market and publication. SoundGuys gave an original U.S. MSRP of $699 on its 2024 review page; TechRadar reported $799 in the U.S., £699 in the U.K. and AU$1,199 in Australia in its 2024 review. Sennheiser’s press release listed a €699 MSRP. These are reported list prices, not a single globally uniform current price, and retailer prices can differ.

The price places the IE 600 well above everyday wired earphones. The decision is easier to justify if you specifically want its metal construction, detailed wired listening and detachable cables. If those features are not priorities, or if you need wireless convenience, its premium cost is harder to defend.
How does the IE 600 compare with the IE 300 and IE 900?
The IE 300 is the lower-cost alternative identified in review coverage, while the IE 900 is positioned as the more expensive flagship reference. The available comparison details establish differences in price tier and housing material, but do not support a full numerical sound or comfort comparison.

Choose between them based on the features you can verify and value, not an assumption that a higher model number automatically means a better fit or a sound you will prefer. If you are choosing among the three primarily for comfort or tuning, listen to them where possible.

Who should buy the Sennheiser IE 600?
The IE 600 makes the most sense for someone who wants a premium wired IEM, values a robust metal shell and appreciates having replaceable cables and both standard and balanced connection options. SoundGuys’ review praised its sound, isolation, build quality and removable cables, and TechRadar’s 2024 verdict was strongly positive about its position among premium wired in-ear headphones.
It is a poor match if you require Bluetooth, a built-in microphone and remote for calls, water resistance for workouts, or a budget-friendly purchase. SoundGuys explicitly lists it as not waterproof, so do not treat its metal shell as protection against sweat or rain. For buyers unsure about the textured shell, comfort is the main reason to try before committing.

Is the IE 600’s 25 dB attenuation the same as noise cancelling?
No. The listed figure is attenuation, while active noise cancelling uses electronics to counter ambient sound. The IE 600’s passive isolation depends on how well its tips seal in your ears.
Can I use the IE 600 with a USB-C-only phone?
The included connections are 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm, not USB-C. A compatible USB-C audio adapter or DAC would be needed for a phone without a headphone jack; an adapter is not listed among the included accessories.
Is an 18-ohm IEM guaranteed to work well from any audio source?
No. Impedance is only one part of how an earphone interacts with a source; output capability and the source’s other electrical characteristics also matter. The published specifications do not establish performance with every phone, adapter or player.
