Buy a fresh, root-access Ubuntu VPS with at least 2 GB of RAM, a public IP address, and ports 80 and 443 free, then install Easypanel with its official root script or a provider marketplace image. The 2 GB figure is an installation floor, not a sensible production target: builds, databases, logs, backups, and concurrent services usually justify more memory, CPU, storage, and bandwidth. Pay for the VPS separately from any Easypanel plan above Free.
This guide explains how to select the server, compare purchase methods, install the panel, calculate the ongoing cost, and operate the underlying machine safely. Easypanel says its software works on any VPS or dedicated server running a supported Linux distribution; you are not locked to one host.

What VPS do I need for Easypanel?
You need a newly provisioned Linux server that you can administer as root (or with sudo), with at least 2 GB of RAM and unrestricted use of ports 80 and 443. Easypanel’s installation documentation gives those as hard prerequisites. Choose a current Ubuntu release offered by your provider; an Akamai one-click deployment specifically calls for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
Baseline requirements
| Requirement | What to verify before ordering | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Fresh Ubuntu installation or another distribution explicitly supported by Easypanel | The installer expects a clean system and supported kernel/userspace. |
| Memory | 2 GB RAM minimum | This is the official installation floor; applications and databases need headroom. |
| Privileges | Root login or a sudo account that can become root | The installer installs Docker and configures the host. |
| Network | Public IP address, controllable firewall, and DNS records | Domains, certificates, updates, and remote administration depend on reachability. |
| Ports | TCP 80 and 443 unused and allowed through the firewall | Easypanel’s web routing and certificate issuance need these ports. |
| Storage | Enough disk for the OS, container images, persistent volumes, logs, and backups | Container layers and databases can consume space faster than the base OS. |
Do not install another web server that binds 80 or 443 before Easypanel. If an old Nginx, Apache, or similar service is present, remove it or stop it on the fresh host; otherwise the panel’s proxy cannot claim those ports.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How much RAM, CPU, storage, and bandwidth should you buy?
Use 2 GB only for a very small test or light service. When one VPS must build code, run the application and database, retain logs, and create backups, starting above the minimum reduces memory pressure and failed builds.

- Memory: determines how many services and database processes can remain resident without swapping. Add RAM before increasing CPU when containers are being killed for lack of memory.
- CPU: affects image builds, compilation, background jobs, and request throughput. More vCPUs help parallel builds, but sustained performance also depends on the provider’s underlying hardware.
- NVMe or other disk: must hold images, persistent volumes, logs, temporary build layers, and local backup copies. Keep free space available for upgrades and database maintenance.
- Bandwidth and region: select a monthly transfer allowance that covers downloads, API traffic, image pulls, and backups. A region close to your users reduces latency; a second region can improve disaster-recovery options.
A vendor example illustrates the next step above the floor: LightNode lists a 4 GB RAM, 2-vCPU tier, but that is a product offering rather than a universal capacity guarantee. Measure your own memory, CPU, disk, and transfer use and resize when the workload—not a plan label—requires it.
Which way should you purchase an Easypanel VPS?
There are three practical routes. The right choice depends on whether you value provider flexibility, a guided deployment, or a listing that already advertises Easypanel-sized plans.
| Purchase path | Process | Best for | Important trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generic VPS plus manual install | Order a clean supported Linux server, then run the official installer yourself. | Administrators who want broad provider and region choice. | You must verify every prerequisite and perform the installation and hardening. |
| One-click marketplace image | Select an Easypanel image while creating the server; the provider provisions the panel. | Fast setup and fewer initial shell commands. | Image versions, access instructions, and firewall defaults are provider-specific. |
| Easypanel-focused VPS listing | Buy a plan marketed for Easypanel and complete the self-install unless the listing says otherwise. | Buyers who want published resource bundles and a simpler comparison. | The panel license is still separate, and advertised capacity is not a performance guarantee. |
Easypanel’s provider directory lists one-click or preconfigured options from providers including DigitalOcean, AWS, Vultr, Linode, Kamatera, Cloudzy, and LetsCloud, among others. A directory listing is not a promise of identical pricing or support, so read the provider’s current terms at checkout.
Example of a published plan
LightNode advertises an Ubuntu Easypanel entry plan at $7.71 per month with 2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 50 GB NVMe storage, and 1 TB bandwidth. Its page says the buyer installs Easypanel and pays panel licenses separately. Treat those figures as that vendor’s current offer, not as the minimum specification for every application.

How do I compare VPS providers before buying?
Price alone hides the operational differences that matter after deployment. Record the answers to these checks for each candidate:
- Installation: Is the image manual, marketplace-based, or managed? Can you reinstall from a clean Ubuntu image?
- Administration: Do you receive root or full sudo access? Can you edit firewall rules, reverse-DNS settings, and DNS records?
- Resources: What are the vCPU model, RAM, disk type and capacity, transfer allowance, and overage rates?
- Location and network: Is a suitable region available, and is the public address stable? Check latency from your audience and from any external services you depend on.
- Recovery: Are snapshots, automated backups, image exports, and console access available? Determine how quickly you can restore a failed machine.
- Billing: Compare hourly and monthly totals, renewal pricing, taxes, backup fees, IPv4 charges, and storage add-ons.
- Support: Confirm response coverage for host failures and the limits of assistance for software you administer yourself.
Keep a written total that combines the VPS, backup storage, extra volumes, transfer overages, and Easypanel license. A low introductory server price can be less attractive once recurring backup and software costs are included.
How do I install Easypanel on a self-managed VPS?
Manual installation is short, but it changes the server: the script installs Docker when necessary, initializes Docker Swarm, and starts Easypanel. Run it only on a server you intend to dedicate to the panel.
- Provision the host. Create a fresh Ubuntu VPS with the required RAM, public IP, root or sudo access, and no existing service listening on ports 80 or 443.
- Connect securely. Sign in over SSH with your provider’s console or SSH client. If you used a sudo account, switch to a root shell with your provider’s documented method.
- Check the basics. Confirm the hostname, system clock, available disk, and firewall rules. Make sure inbound TCP 80 and 443 are permitted and that no web server owns them.
- Run the official installer as root. Execute
curl -sSL https://get.easypanel.io | sh. The documented command downloads and runs Easypanel’s installer. - Let the setup finish. The installer adds Docker if needed, initializes a Docker Swarm, and launches the panel. Do not interrupt the shell while packages and services are being configured.
- Open the panel. Use the address and credentials shown by the installer or provider. Complete the first-run setup, create an administrator account, and avoid leaving temporary credentials in shell history or notes.
- Publish a domain and TLS. Point DNS to the server’s public IP, keep 80 and 443 reachable, and create the application or service in Easypanel so its proxy can request certificates.
- Test recovery paths. Deploy a small service, inspect logs, verify that a restart behaves as expected, and confirm that your backup and restore procedure is usable before moving production traffic.
Easypanel also documents a Docker-first path and requires root or sudo privileges. If your server already has Docker, inspect the host carefully before proceeding; a clean image remains the least ambiguous starting point.

What changes with a one-click marketplace installation?
The marketplace image performs much of the provisioning for you, but it does not remove your responsibility for access, firewall policy, updates, or backups. DigitalOcean’s marketplace instructions describe reaching the panel on port 3000 after creating the Droplet. Follow that provider’s access procedure, then secure the panel and route public applications through 80 and 443.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Port 3000 is an initial management endpoint in that deployment documentation; it is not a substitute for opening 80 and 443 for normal web routing and certificate issuance. Before exposing the panel broadly, restrict administrative access with the provider firewall or another trusted network control, set a strong account password, and remove any temporary access rule you no longer need.
Is Easypanel included in the VPS price?
Usually, no. The infrastructure bill and the panel subscription are separate. Easypanel’s current pricing lists one license per server (a node, virtual machine, or instance), while the VPS provider charges for compute and related resources.
| Plan | Price per server/month | Published features |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 forever | Up to 3 projects, unlimited services and deployments, and basic monitoring. No credit card is required. |
| Hobby | $10.9 | Unlimited projects, advanced monitoring, notifications, database backups, and a custom service domain. |
| Growth | $16.9 | Everything in Hobby plus multiple users and access control. |
| Business | $29.9 | Everything in Growth plus cluster support (alpha), white-labeling, and priority support. |
For example, pairing the published $7.71 LightNode entry VPS with the Free plan would make the panel license $0 while the server remains $7.71 per month, before taxes, backups, or add-ons. Pairing that same server with Hobby would add $10.9 per server each month. Actual totals vary with the provider’s current billing and your resource choices.
What does “self-managed” mean after installation?
Easypanel simplifies deployments, domains, SSL, logs, monitoring, and service management; it does not turn the VPS into a fully managed service. You remain responsible for the host and the data running on it.
Operational duties
- Apply Ubuntu, Docker, and Easypanel security updates on a defined schedule.
- Use least-privilege accounts, SSH keys, firewall rules, and protected administrative endpoints.
- Maintain DNS records, domain renewals, certificate behavior, and reverse-proxy configuration.
- Back up databases and persistent volumes off the VPS; test restores rather than assuming a backup is usable.
- Monitor memory, CPU, disk growth, container restarts, logs, and bandwidth so you can resize before an outage.
- Document credentials, environment variables, deployment steps, and an incident contact path.
Easypanel’s CLI documentation warns that API keys can modify or delete every resource allowed to the issuing user. Keep keys private, grant only the access required, rotate them periodically, and revoke any key that may have been exposed.

What commonly goes wrong, and how do I fix it?
The installer reports insufficient memory
Verify the VPS actually has at least 2 GB RAM and that no swap or memory-heavy process is consuming it. On a disposable host, reprovisioning a larger instance is cleaner than trying to remove unknown packages from a crowded server.
The panel or certificates cannot be reached
Check both layers: the provider firewall/security group and the Ubuntu firewall. Confirm that DNS resolves to the VPS public IP and that another service is not listening on 80 or 443. Certificate issuance will fail when the hostname is not publicly reachable on the required port.
The marketplace image opens on the wrong port
Use the provider’s documented initial endpoint, such as port 3000 in the DigitalOcean instructions, then complete the panel setup and configure application routing through 80 and 443. Close broad temporary rules after confirming access.
Deployments fail because disk fills
Inspect container images, build cache, logs, persistent volumes, and local backup copies. Increase disk capacity or move backups off-server; deleting data without identifying the volume or database it belongs to can cause permanent loss.
A server failure has no clear recovery path
Test a snapshot or backup restore on a separate instance before production depends on it. Keep DNS, environment configuration, and database recovery instructions outside the original VPS so a complete host loss does not remove the information needed to rebuild.

When is a self-managed Easypanel VPS the right choice?
Choose it when you want a graphical control plane for containers but are willing to operate Linux, networking, security, and backups. It suits developers and small teams that need repeatable deployments without surrendering root access.
Choose a larger instance than the 2 GB floor when the server will build software, host a database, handle meaningful traffic, or retain backups. Consider a managed service instead if your team cannot patch the operating system, respond to host incidents, or verify restores; Easypanel’s interface does not replace those responsibilities.
Easypanel reports more than 145,000 self-hosters, over 66,000 active servers, and more than 750 open-source services on its homepage. Those are vendor-reported figures, not an independent adoption study, so use your own workload and support requirements—not the headline totals—to decide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run Easypanel on a dedicated server instead of a VPS?
Yes. Easypanel’s pricing FAQ says it works with a dedicated server as well as a VPS when the machine runs a supported Linux distribution. You still need the same root-level control, free web ports, and operational discipline.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Is Ubuntu 24.04 LTS required for every Easypanel installation?
Not universally. The general installation guidance calls for a fresh Ubuntu server and at least 2 GB of RAM, while an Akamai one-click deployment specifically documents Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Check the image or distribution versions your chosen provider currently supports.
How should I plan backups when using Easypanel?
Keep copies outside the VPS and include databases, persistent volumes, deployment configuration, and DNS information. A backup is only dependable after you have performed a test restore and recorded the steps another administrator can follow.
Do two VPS instances require two Easypanel licenses?
Yes. Easypanel defines a license per server, whether that server is a node, virtual machine, or instance. Consolidating services on one machine can reduce license count, but it also increases the impact of a single host failure.
