Verdict: The Sekyo Wi‑Fi Smart Door Sensor is a small, two-piece magnetic contact sensor that can notify your phone when a door, window, locker, drawer, or shutter opens. It is easy to install with adhesive, uses two AAA batteries, and connects through the Smart Life app over 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi. The standard version is best treated as a notification device; the separate siren version adds an audible deterrent. In a 26 July 2026 hands-on review, alerts arrived within seconds, not with a guaranteed instantaneous response, so it is useful for awareness but should not be your only security measure.
What is the Sekyo Wi‑Fi Smart Door Sensor?
The Sekyo sensor is a magnetic open/close detector, not a camera, motion detector, or complete alarm system. It has a main electronics unit and a smaller magnetic companion. When the two pieces separate as a door or window moves, the sensor reports the event through the Smart Life app.

That design also works on access points such as shutters, lockers, and drawers, provided the two parts can sit close together while closed and separate cleanly when opened. The sensor does not show you who opened an entry or what happened in the room; it only reports the change in contact state.
Sekyo describes the feature as: “When door/window is opened or closed, the sensor will push instant alarm notification to your smartphone.” In independent hands-on use, notifications arrived within seconds. That distinction matters: the system can be quick, but no supplied evidence supports a guaranteed real-time delivery time under every network condition.

Does the Sekyo sensor need Wi‑Fi?
Yes. Remote smartphone alerts require an active 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi connection and the Smart Life app. If the sensor or your network is offline, it cannot deliver the normal remote notification path to your phone.
What the Wi‑Fi requirement means
- You need a working 2.4GHz wireless network at the installation location; a 5GHz-only network is not sufficient for the stated setup.
- The phone app is the notification endpoint, so your phone also needs internet access to receive alerts away from home.
- The sensor is not presented as a hub-based product. The available product information describes direct Wi‑Fi operation through Smart Life rather than a separate bridge.
- Network interruption can delay or prevent remote alerts. Treat the sensor as an awareness layer, not a substitute for a monitored alarm or physical lock.
The Smart Life app can be used on Android or iPhone. The 91mobiles review says pairing is possible with or without creating an account, which is useful if you want to test the device before committing to an app profile.

How do you install the Sekyo door sensor?
Installation is a do-it-yourself job. The official listing says the package includes double-sided tape and screws, so you can choose an adhesive installation or a more permanent screw mount, subject to the surface and the seller’s stated package contents.
- Choose the mounting surface. Select a flat area where the fixed frame and moving panel meet. A door frame, window frame, locker edge, shutter, or drawer front can work if the two pieces will separate when opened.
- Clean and dry the surface. Remove dust and grease before applying tape. A clean, dry surface gives the adhesive its best chance of holding; avoid mounting over loose paint, fabric, or a surface that flexes excessively.
- Decide which piece goes where. Put the larger electronics unit on the fixed frame when practical and the smaller magnet on the moving panel. The reverse arrangement can work if the alignment requirements are maintained.
- Align the arrows. The reviewer recommends matching the arrows on the two units. Keep them close together when the door or window is closed, with the gap within the alignment range indicated by the product markings.
- Apply the mount. Press the supplied double-sided tape firmly onto both surfaces, or use the supplied screws where a secure mechanical fixing is appropriate. Hold the parts in position before opening the door to check that they do not collide.
- Install the batteries. The main unit uses two AAA cells. Battery condition affects whether the sensor can stay connected and report events, so install fresh cells before pairing.
- Pair it in Smart Life. Open the app, add a device, select the door/window sensor category, and follow the on-screen Wi‑Fi pairing prompts. Use the 2.4GHz network required by the product.
- Test both states. Close the door and wait for the contact to settle, then open it. Confirm that the app records the activation and that your phone receives a notification before relying on the sensor.
Do not place the units so far apart that the contact is already considered open while the door is closed. Likewise, avoid a hinge-side position where the gap changes unpredictably. A short, straight separation at the latch-side edge is generally easier to verify.
What can you do in the Smart Life app?
The app is more than a simple on/off alert screen. The hands-on review reports activation history, battery-health information, location assignment for multiple sensors, and controls for light, voice, and smartphone notifications.

Review activity and battery status
Activation history lets you see when the sensor changed state, which is useful for checking a room, cabinet, or entry point after the fact. Battery-health reporting helps you identify a weak cell before the sensor stops communicating. Treat the displayed battery level as an indicator rather than a precise remaining-hours estimate.
Manage several sensors
If you install sensors on more than one opening, the app can assign locations so events are easier to identify. Name each location clearly—such as “front window” or “storage locker”—instead of leaving generic device names that make an alert harder to act on.
Choose notification channels
The review describes customizable light, voice, and smartphone notifications. You can adjust which channels are useful in your household rather than enabling every alert by default. Run a test after changing settings because a notification that is disabled in the app will not reach the phone even if the magnetic contact is working.
Use schedules
Sekyo’s official information says scheduling is available. A schedule can reduce nuisance alerts during normal activity—for example, while a family is home—but it also creates periods when an opening may not generate the expected warning. Set schedules only after deciding which hours require monitoring, and verify the first scheduled transition manually.
What is the difference between the standard and siren versions?
The standard model focuses on phone notifications. A separate variant adds a built-in siren, giving you a local audible response in addition to the app alert. The available listings identify a stated two-minute siren duration for the siren-equipped version.

When is the siren worth paying more for?
Choose the siren version when someone near the protected opening should hear an alarm immediately, or when a local sound may discourage casual tampering. It is especially relevant for a room, shop shutter, or storage area where a phone could be muted or out of reach.
Choose the standard model when quiet alerts are the priority, when an audible alarm would disturb occupants, or when you are placing several sensors and want the lower-complexity option. The siren does not remove the Wi‑Fi requirement for remote phone alerts; it adds a local response rather than replacing the app connection.
Does the package include batteries?
The main unit requires two AAA batteries, and the 91mobiles reviewer says batteries had to be purchased separately. Retailer listings are inconsistent, however, so confirm the exact package contents with the seller before ordering. If batteries are not listed explicitly, budget for two compatible AAA cells.
After installation, check the battery-health reading in Smart Life and replace both cells together when the level is low. Re-test an open event after replacement because a battery change can require the device to reconnect to Wi‑Fi.

- Allow Smart Life to send notifications on the phone and check that system-level battery-saving settings are not suppressing them.
- Perform an opening test from the location where you will actually carry the phone.
- Use the activation history to distinguish a missed phone alert from a sensor that never registered the opening.
For a high-consequence entry, pair this awareness tool with sound physical security and a response plan. The product information does not establish professional monitoring, emergency dispatch, tamper certification, or a guaranteed alert service.
Where can you use it, and where should you be cautious?
The magnetic design suits interior doors, windows, shutters, lockers, and drawers. It is most dependable where the fixed and moving surfaces are rigid, close when shut, and separate in one predictable motion.
Good installation candidates
- Bedroom or office doors where you want an opening notification.
- Windows that close against a stable frame.
- Lockers, cabinets, and drawers that need an activity record.
- Shutters or storage access points where a siren could be heard nearby.
Situations requiring verification
- Uneven or flexible surfaces that prevent consistent magnet alignment.
- Locations exposed to rain, condensation, or direct weather. The available Sekyo information does not establish an independent weather-resistance rating, so confirm suitability with the seller before outdoor use.
- Metal surfaces or narrow frames where the two pieces cannot sit within the required alignment range.
- Openings where the magnet may be knocked out of position during normal use.
Before final mounting, operate the opening repeatedly and watch the app history. A sensor that works once but misses later cycles is usually suffering from alignment, mounting movement, weak batteries, or unstable Wi‑Fi rather than a scheduling problem.

What should you do if the sensor does not work?
The app cannot find the device
- Confirm that the phone is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi network.
- Check that both AAA batteries are installed correctly and have charge.
- Move the sensor temporarily closer to the router during pairing.
- Restart the Smart Life pairing process and follow its device-category prompts.
The app shows no opening event
- Close the door fully and confirm that the arrows and two pieces are aligned.
- Reduce the gap between the main unit and magnet when closed.
- Inspect the adhesive or screws for movement after repeated openings.
- Check whether a schedule or notification setting is suppressing the alert.
The event appears in history but no phone alert arrives
This points toward phone or notification configuration rather than the magnetic contact itself. Enable Smart Life notifications at the operating-system level, remove restrictive battery-saving rules for the app, and test with the phone connected to mobile data as well as home Wi‑Fi.
The siren will not stop
Use the siren model’s physical stop button described in the review, then check its mute and volume settings in the app. If the alarm retriggers, inspect alignment and schedules before remounting the device.

It is a sensible choice if you want an inexpensive, tool-light way to know when a particular opening changes state and you already have dependable 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi. The standard version covers the core notification job, while the siren version makes more sense when a nearby audible warning is valuable.
Its boundaries are equally clear: it does not identify a person, detect motion in a room, guarantee instant delivery, or provide a verified outdoor rating. The need for two AAA batteries and an active Wi‑Fi connection also means ongoing maintenance. Buy it for focused door, window, locker, shutter, or drawer awareness—not as a complete replacement for locks, cameras, or professionally monitored security.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the sensor keep recording openings when my internet is down?
The app can display activation history, but remote reporting depends on an active Wi‑Fi connection. If the network is unavailable, do not assume events will be delivered to your phone later; test the behavior with your specific setup before relying on offline operation.
Can I install several Sekyo sensors in one home?
The Smart Life review describes assigning locations when multiple sensors are installed. Give each unit a distinct room or opening name so an alert identifies the correct access point instead of a generic device label.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWill it work on a door with a large gap between frame and panel?
Only if the two magnetic pieces remain within their operating alignment when the door is closed. Temporarily position the units and test several open-close cycles before fixing them permanently; a large or changing gap can cause false open states or missed events.
Is this sensor suitable for an exposed gate or outdoor shed?
The available product information does not establish an independent weather-resistance rating for this exact model. Treat outdoor use as unverified unless the seller confirms environmental protection, and protect the electronics from rain and condensation if you install it in a sheltered location.
