Yes—if you are happy to play through a cable. The Scuf Valor Wired with TMR is a capable Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC controller that combines Endurance TMR thumbsticks, four remappable rear paddles, adjustable trigger travel and software profiles at a mid-range price. TechRadar’s 2026 review found its sticks smooth, sensitive and quick to recenter, while custom curves and remaps made both racing and first-person games easier to control. The trade-offs are equally clear: it is wired-only, its triggers are conventional rather than TMR, and its face buttons feel softer than the fastest mechanical-style alternatives. At the reported discounted price, it is a strong value for players who prioritize stick performance and rear controls over wireless convenience.

What is the Scuf Valor Wired with TMR?

The Valor Wired is a USB gamepad for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC. It launched on March 31, 2026, as a less-expensive alternative to premium Xbox-focused controllers, using magnetic TMR thumbstick sensors and configurable controls rather than wireless connectivity or a luxury mechanical-button design.

TechRadar reported review street pricing of $89.99 in the US, £69.99 in the UK and AU$179.99 in Australia, compared with list prices of $99.99 and £94.99 where those list figures were provided. The displayed discount is retailer- and region-dependent, so check the current price and stock before buying.

How do the Valor’s TMR thumbsticks work?

TMR sticks measure position magnetically, so the sensing element does not rely on the same physical contact surfaces used by traditional potentiometers. That design reduces a major source of wear and can help the sticks hold their center over time. It is a durability and consistency advantage, not a promise that the controller can never develop drift or another hardware fault.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

In TechRadar’s testing, the Valor’s sticks felt smooth and more sensitive than the Hall-effect alternatives the reviewer had used. They returned rapidly to the dead zone after movement, which helps when you need to stop a camera pan or settle a racing line precisely. Sensitivity is adjustable in the companion app, so the same stick can be made calmer for menu navigation or more immediate for a shooter.

Magnetic sensing does not eliminate every possible cause of unwanted input. A damaged mechanism, contamination, firmware problem or incorrect dead-zone setting can still produce symptoms that feel like drift. Treat the TMR hardware as a strong design benefit and a reason to expect better long-term consistency, not as an absolute warranty against failure.

Which controls and adjustments does it provide?

Four rear paddles

Four rear paddles can be assigned to other controller inputs. Moving a jump, reload, crouch or shift command to a paddle lets you keep both thumbs on the sticks. The paddles run in a horizontal arrangement; TechRadar found that layout awkward for some grips, so hand size and your preferred finger position matter more than the raw paddle count.

Instant-trigger and full-throw modes

Each trigger can be switched between a short instant-trigger action and a longer full-throw movement. Instant mode suits rapid fire or other binary actions. Full throw preserves the range needed for smooth throttle and brake control in a racing game. The app also provides trigger curves and dead-zone controls, allowing you to refine the response rather than relying only on the physical switch.

Profiles stored on the controller

You can save up to three configurations in the Valor’s onboard memory. A profile can include button remaps, stick curves, trigger curves, dead zones and vibration settings. Keeping profiles on the controller is useful when moving between a PC and an Xbox or changing games without rebuilding every setting from scratch.

Detachable cable and replaceable exterior parts

The supplied 10-foot (3.6-meter) braided USB-C-to-USB-A cable gives enough reach for a living-room console while avoiding a permanently attached lead. The quick-start guide also documents a removable faceplate and removable thumbstick parts, making basic exterior customization or replacement possible. The controller remains dependent on that cable for play; removing it does not turn the Valor into a wireless pad.

Audio and physical controls

The front layout includes separate wheels for game and chat volume beside the 3.5 mm headset connection. TechRadar noted that the audio dials could feel loose. The face buttons are functional but softer and spongier than the crisp micro-switch buttons found on some more expensive competitors.

How do you set up the Valor Wired on Xbox or PC?

The initial connection is straightforward because the controller is wired and does not require wireless pairing.

  1. Plug the supplied USB-C end into the controller.
  2. Connect the USB-A end to an Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One or Windows PC.
  3. Hold the home button until the controller LEDs illuminate.
  4. Open the game or Windows controller settings and confirm that the Valor responds to stick and button input.
  5. Install or open the Valor configuration app on a supported Windows PC when you need remapping, curves, dead-zone or vibration adjustments.
  6. Choose one of the three onboard profile slots, make your changes, and save the profile to the controller.

For a first test, move both sticks through their full range, squeeze each trigger in both modes and press every rear paddle. That quickly identifies a loose cable connection, an unexpectedly active trigger mode or a remap left over from another game.

How useful is the configuration app?

The software is the Valor’s main way to turn good hardware into a game-specific setup. It supports button remapping, custom thumbstick and trigger curves, dead-zone adjustment, vibration tuning and profile storage. Those controls are more meaningful than a cosmetic RGB option because they change how much movement is needed and how quickly an input reaches the game.

For racing games

TechRadar’s reviewer reduced the trigger dead zones and used dynamic curves to gain finer throttle and brake control. A full-throw trigger mode preserves gradual input, while a custom curve can make the first part of the pull less abrupt. The result is a configuration that favors smooth modulation instead of simply reaching 100 percent input quickly.

For first-person shooters

Remapping frequently used actions to the rear paddles keeps your thumbs on the sticks during movement and aiming. Switching to instant-trigger mode shortens the actuation travel for weapons that use a simple press. You can then assign different actions to another onboard profile instead of changing the same layout every time you switch genres.

For troubleshooting unwanted movement

Dead-zone controls should be used carefully. A large dead zone can mask a small amount of idle movement but makes the stick feel less responsive around center. A very small dead zone preserves sensitivity but exposes any physical or calibration problem. Start with the app’s default, test the stick at rest, and change the setting in small increments.

How does the Valor perform in real games?

The strongest part of the experience is the stick response. TechRadar described the TMR modules as smooth, responsive and quick to center, with more sensitivity than the Hall-effect sticks in the reviewer’s comparison. That combination benefits games that demand small corrections, including aiming, camera control and racing lines.

Customization improves that baseline. The reviewer reported better racing control after reducing trigger dead zones and selecting dynamic curves. In FPS play, rear-paddle remaps made common actions easier to reach, and instant-trigger mode reduced the amount of trigger movement needed for rapid actions.

The 1,000 Hz PC polling figure is useful context for desktop players because it indicates frequent input reporting when the controller is used on PC. It does not by itself guarantee lower in-game latency: the game, operating system, USB path and display still influence the complete response chain.

There are three noticeable compromises. First, the cable is always part of the setup, so the Valor cannot match a wireless controller’s freedom from a desk or sofa. Second, the triggers are adjustable but not TMR, so buyers seeking magnetic sensing throughout the controller will need a different model. Third, the face buttons lack the sharp, fast feel of premium micro-switch designs. None of those issues prevents accurate play, but they explain why the Valor costs less than flagship pads.

Is the wired design a problem for Xbox players?

It depends on where and how you play. The 10-foot cable is long enough for many television setups and avoids battery charging, pairing menus and wireless interference. Competitive players also get a consistent physical connection, while PC users can take advantage of the listed 1,000 Hz polling mode.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

The limitation is convenience rather than compatibility. You cannot put the controller on a coffee table and continue playing after unplugging it, and the USB-A host connection may require an adapter on a PC that has only USB-C ports. If wireless play is a requirement, the Valor is the wrong choice regardless of how attractive its other specifications look.

How does it compare with the ASUS ROG Raikiri II and Thrustmaster eSwap X2?

The alternatives target different priorities. The Raikiri II is the higher-priced, feature-heavy option for players who want wireless operation and magnetic trigger sensing. The eSwap X2 costs more in exchange for modular replacement and greater layout flexibility. Exact competitor prices were not stated in the review material, so the table uses the documented relative positioning rather than invented figures.

Category Scuf Valor Wired with TMR ASUS ROG Raikiri II Thrustmaster eSwap X2
Positioning Mid-range wired controller Higher-priced premium option Pricier modular wired option
Connectivity Wired only Wireless connectivity plus wired use Wired; modular design
Thumbstick technology Endurance TMR TMR sticks Modular stick system; the review did not state a matching TMR specification
Trigger technology Adjustable instant/full-throw modes; not TMR TMR triggers Not stated in the review material
Face buttons Soft conventional buttons Micro-switch buttons Not stated in the review material
Rear controls Four horizontal paddles Not stated in the review material Layout flexibility through modular parts
Polling 1,000 Hz on PC, as listed in the review 1,000 Hz Not stated in the review material
Profile and software support App tuning and three onboard profiles Software support documented for the model; exact profile count not stated Modularity is the defining feature; exact profile support not stated

Choose the Raikiri II if wireless operation, TMR triggers and micro-switch face buttons justify its higher price. Choose the eSwap X2 if replacing or rearranging physical modules matters more than keeping the price down. Choose the Valor when TMR sticks, four paddles and detailed tuning are the priority and a cable is acceptable.

What are the Valor Wired’s biggest weaknesses?

  • No wireless mode: every session requires the supplied or an equivalent wired connection.
  • Triggers are not TMR: the instant/full-throw switch changes travel, but it does not provide magnetic trigger sensing.
  • Face buttons are not mechanical-style: the softer feel may disappoint players who prefer a sharp, clicky actuation.
  • Rear-paddle ergonomics vary: the horizontal placement can be awkward with some grips.
  • Audio wheels can feel loose: the reviewer noticed movement in the dials, although that observation may not apply to every unit.

These are trade-offs, not evidence that the controller is unreliable. They define the audience that gets the most value from it: players who care more about sticks, paddles and tuning than about wireless freedom or premium button mechanisms.

Who should buy the Scuf Valor Wired with TMR?

It is a good fit for Xbox and PC players who want enthusiast controls without moving to the highest-priced class of controller.

  • Buy it if you want TMR thumbsticks and a design intended to resist common potentiometer wear.
  • Buy it if four rear paddles will improve your movement, aiming or shortcut access.
  • Buy it if you enjoy tuning curves, dead zones and vibration for individual games.
  • Buy it if a 10-foot wired connection works for your desk or television setup.
  • Buy it if the current street price is close to the reported $89.99/£69.99/AU$179.99 levels.

Look elsewhere if you require wireless play, insist on TMR triggers, or want the fastest micro-switch face buttons available. Also consider a modular competitor if replacing individual control components is more important than the Valor’s lower entry price.

What is the final verdict on the Scuf Valor Wired with TMR?

The Valor Wired earns its value through the parts that affect control most: smooth TMR sticks, four rear paddles, adjustable trigger travel and software that stores practical profiles. Its launch pricing puts those features below many premium alternatives, and the review testing showed that tuning can produce tangible benefits in racing and FPS games.

The recommendation comes with one non-negotiable condition: accept the cable. Once that is settled, the remaining compromises—non-TMR triggers, softer face buttons and occasionally awkward rear or audio controls—are reasonable at the reported price. For wired Xbox and PC players, it is a surprisingly complete controller rather than a stripped-down budget model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I connect a headset and adjust game and chat audio separately?

Yes. The controller has a 3.5 mm headset port and separate game-volume and chat-volume wheels, so you can balance those two audio feeds from the pad instead of opening an in-game menu.

Can the faceplate and thumbsticks be removed?

The Valor Pro quick-start guide documents a removable faceplate and removable thumbstick parts. That makes exterior cleaning, customization or replacement easier than on a controller with a sealed shell, but it does not make the internal TMR modules user-serviceable.

What should I do if the controller does not light up on Xbox?

Reconnect the USB-C plug at the controller and the USB-A plug at the console, then hold the home button until the LEDs illuminate. If it still is not recognized, test the cable and another USB port before changing software profiles.

Will my saved profile follow me from PC to Xbox?

Profiles saved in one of the controller’s three onboard slots are stored on the hardware, so the configuration is available when you move the controller between its supported Xbox and Windows connections. The app is still needed to create or edit those settings.
