Scramble Knights Online did not carry every earlier save into its new direction. Funktronic Labs said August 2026 open-beta character progress would be wiped, then promised that October demo progress would carry into Early Access, which launched on October 26. Since launch, the developer has reported fixes to server autosaving and a bug that could undo level-ups. The battle-royale-to-MMO-lite shift does not itself mean old characters or loadouts were converted: no such migration was announced.
How does save status differ by game phase?

The practical answer to “Will progress carry over to launch?” depends on when that progress was earned. The August beta had a wipe; the October demo had a carryover promise; and post-launch progress is covered by the developer’s server-save behavior and subsequent fixes. These are three different cases, not one continuous test save.

What did the genre change mean for existing progress?
Scramble Knights Online’s earlier battle-royale direction and its current MMO-lite action-RPG direction are materially different games, but the change in genre is not evidence of a save conversion. Funktronic Labs described moving away from a large-lobby, last-knight-standing format toward questing with friends, PvE encounters, crafting, and character building. The current loop is built around quests, gems and crafting materials, returning to the Town Square, and improving gear and builds.
That change helps explain why old beta progress should not be treated as though it naturally became a new character. The August open beta had an explicit wipe rule. The October demo had a separate carryover promise. Neither announcement established that a battle-royale loadout, beta character, or other earlier data was migrated into the MMO-lite progression system.

The shift also does not mean all PvP disappeared. The August beta patch made world PvP opt-in through factions or particular PvP quests, and the released Steam description presents faction PvP as optional. That is a gameplay distinction, not a statement about save continuity.
In other words, the project’s direction and its save policy answer different questions. The genre change describes what players do now: take quests, fight PvE encounters, gather resources, craft, and develop a build. The wipe and carryover announcements describe which testing-period progress was meant to remain. A familiar title, account, or returning game world is not enough to infer that an earlier character survived.

Yes. Funktronic Labs explicitly said, “No, we’ll be doing a full wipe at the end of the open beta.” That statement applied to the August 2026 open beta, so a character or progression from that phase was not promised as a continuing Early Access save.
The beta reward was a Beta Cape for Early Access participation. A cosmetic participation reward is separate from carrying over a character, level, gear, or other progression. The announced reward therefore does not mean the beta save survived the wipe.
The studio said it had had over 25,000 players participate in its battle-royale playtests in 2026. That figure is about the earlier playtest history; it does not mean that 25,000 characters or loadouts were migrated. Likewise, the Beta Cape was a participation reward, not a way to restore the wiped save.
Does October demo progress carry into Early Access?
Yes, according to the developer’s October 16 announcement: “Your demo progress will carry over to the full game! No more wipes!” Early Access launched October 26, 2026, so this was the relevant carryover promise for players progressing in the October demo.

Keep the phases distinct if a character appears to be missing. The carryover promise concerned the demo; it did not reverse the August beta wipe or establish migration from the earlier battle-royale playtests. The promise also should not be read as a guarantee that no technical save issue can occur after launch.
A separate October 15 announcement reported nearly 40,000 playtest participants. That is a different announcement and description from the earlier figure for battle-royale playtests. The two counts should not be added together, treated as a before-and-after growth measure, or used to estimate how many players brought demo progress into Early Access.
How does Early Access save current progress?
The developer’s October 27 first-fixes announcement describes server autosaving every few minutes and when a player disconnects. It also says a bug that could reverse level-ups was fixed. These are the developer’s reported behaviors and fix, not an independently measured save interval or a promise that every lost level has been restored.
Because the saving described is server-side, there is no verified local save-file location or do-it-yourself file restoration procedure to rely on. The announcement does not establish a save-recovery feature, a recovery time, or that a patch can reconstruct progress that was already lost.

If you are checking whether a session saved, the public description supports only a limited conclusion: autosaves were reported to run at intervals of a few minutes and at disconnect. It does not specify an exact interval, a manual save command, or a way for players to inspect the server’s saved state. Do not assume that closing the game immediately after an action guarantees that every change has already been recorded.
The reported level-up issue is also narrower than a general rollback guarantee. The developer said it fixed a bug that could undo level-ups; it did not say that the fix restored every affected character, cover unrelated missing items, or eliminate all possible server problems. If an issue persists, treat the patch note as useful context, not proof that a particular character’s progress is recoverable.

What should I do if post-launch progress is missing?
- Identify the phase. Work out whether the missing character or progress belongs to the August beta, October demo, or post-launch Early Access. Each had a different stated save rule.
- Check the relevant official announcement. The August wipe notice, October demo carryover notice, and October 27 fixes address different periods; a later autosave fix does not change the earlier beta wipe.
- Use the developer’s current bug-report channels. The first-fixes announcement and current developer announcements are the appropriate places to check for updated reporting guidance. The available information does not identify a guaranteed recovery process.
- Describe the issue precisely. When reporting, distinguish the affected phase and platform and explain what progress is missing. Do not assume a cloud-save setting or a character migration is the cause or solution.
That distinction can make a report more useful: “my August beta character is gone” describes a wipe that was announced, while “my October demo progress did not appear in Early Access” concerns a different promise. A post-launch level rollback is a third kind of issue and may relate to the reported level-up bug. Check for new official guidance before concluding that any of these cases has a recovery option.
Do Steam Cloud, Xbox cloud saves, or cross-play transfer a character?
Not necessarily. Steam lists Steam Cloud, while Xbox lists Xbox cloud saves and Xbox Play Anywhere for its Xbox/PC offering. These are platform features; the official feature labels reviewed do not say that a character made under a Steam account transfers to an Xbox account, or the reverse.
Cross-play and cross-save are different capabilities. The developer described four-player squads and cross-play at launch, but playing together across platforms does not establish that character data follows an account across storefronts. Whether a Steam character can migrate to Xbox or vice versa remains unconfirmed; verify with current official game support rather than treating a cloud-save badge or cross-play as a transfer promise.
Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox cloud saves are specifically listed for the Xbox/PC offering. That information should not be generalized to Steam: no reviewed official listing explains a Steam-to-Xbox account link or character-transfer mechanism. The safe answer to “Does Xbox Play Anywhere mean my Steam save transfers?” is that the listing does not confirm it. A feature that synchronizes saves within a platform ecosystem is not, by itself, evidence of a shared save between separate storefront accounts.
Similarly, four-player squads tell you that the game supports playing with a group; they do not explain where a character is stored or which account owns it. Before changing platform or buying a second version on the assumption that a character will follow, confirm the current transfer policy with official support. The available platform descriptions do not settle that individual migration question.
What was available at launch, and what was still planned?
At Early Access launch, Funktronic Labs described complete one-star quests, optional faction PvP, and around five hours of PvE content. The Steam Early Access listing warns that development is unfinished. Its approximately forty-hour figure describes the planned version 1.0, not the amount of content available at launch.

This matters when interpreting save behavior over time: the game is an evolving Early Access release, and the stated save behavior and content plans are tied to specific announcements and dates. Treat roadmap items as targets unless a later developer update confirms that they shipped.
On October 26, the developer proposed Island Odyssey and two-star quests for December 2026, with three-star quests targeted for the first quarter of 2027. Those were future plans at the time of the announcement, not confirmation of released features or guaranteed dates. A planned content milestone does not imply a new wipe, save conversion, or change to the server autosave behavior; the announcement of those plans did not establish any of those things.
The difference between around five hours of launch PvE and approximately forty hours planned for version 1.0 is therefore a scope distinction. The larger figure is not a description of what every Early Access player could access on October 26. As the game develops, check later official announcements for what has actually shipped and whether save rules have changed.

When are Island Odyssey and the higher-star quests expected?
