Yes—if you need a 26cm non-stick pan that works on induction and other cooktops, the Scanpan Pro IQ 17602 has a well-documented specification and sensible care requirements. It uses a squeeze-cast aluminium body, an integrated steel induction element, a STRATANIUM non-stick coating and a stainless-steel handle. The main reasons to pause are its market-dependent price and warranty, the model’s reported discontinuation in at least one market, and the fact that detailed independent test scores are not publicly visible. Treat it as a potentially durable premium pan, not as a proven performance winner, and verify local stock, warranty terms and the oven limit before buying.
What exactly is the Scanpan Pro IQ 17602?
The Pro IQ 17602 is the 26cm frying-pan model in Scanpan’s Pro IQ range. Consumer NZ identifies it by that exact model number on a page dated June 2025. The 26cm designation describes the nominal pan size; it is not the diameter of the flat cooking base. CHOICE records a measured base diameter of 19cm.

Model numbers are not necessarily identical across countries. Scanpan Australia lists the 20cm Pro IQ pan as SKU 17600, so a retailer’s size and SKU should be checked together rather than inferred from a listing in another market.
The range is positioned as induction-capable non-stick cookware. Its documented construction combines recycled aluminium, a steel element in the base for induction, STRATANIUM coating and stainless-steel components. Those facts answer compatibility and basic build questions, but they do not by themselves establish how evenly a particular pan cooks or how long its coating will last in your kitchen.

Is the Pro IQ 17602 compatible with induction?
Yes. The Pro IQ range is specified for induction as well as gas, electric and other conventional cooktops. Scanpan says an induction-compatible steel element is integrated into the aluminium base, allowing the otherwise aluminium pan to work with an induction hob.
On an induction cooker, the 19cm measured base is more relevant than the 26cm rim when checking burner size. A very large induction zone may extend beyond the magnetic base, while a small zone may heat only the centre. Use the hob zone that most closely matches the flat base and follow your cooktop’s guidance for oversized cookware.
What the construction means in practice
- Squeeze-cast aluminium: aluminium is formed under pressure rather than made from a thin stamped sheet. Scanpan presents this as a way to obtain quick, even heat distribution, but the supplied specifications do not include an independent heat-uniformity score.
- Steel induction element: the magnetic layer enables induction heating while the aluminium body remains the main structural and conductive material.
- Stainless-steel trim and handle: these parts are compatible with high-heat use, subject to the oven limits and local instructions.
- Recycled aluminium: Scanpan’s Australian description for the 20cm family member states 93%–96% recycled aluminium. That is a range-level material claim, not a separately measured composition for every 17602 sold worldwide.
Is Scanpan STRATANIUM really non-stick?
STRATANIUM is Scanpan’s named non-stick coating system, so the 17602 is sold as a non-stick pan. However, the available independent pages do not publish enough test data to support a precise claim about release performance, scratch resistance or service life.
Consumer NZ lists the product and price but does not publicly display its performance, surface-durability or ease-of-use scores. CHOICE lists the model and its physical measurements, while its expert rating and test results are available to members. That means you can verify the coating type and care instructions, but you should not treat an unpublished rating as evidence that this pan outperforms every competing coating.
How to interpret the coating claim
A non-stick coating reduces the need for cooking fat and makes delicate foods easier to turn when the surface is clean and undamaged. It does not make the pan immune to overheating, residue or abrasion. Scanpan specifically advises against excessive high heat, harsh abrasives and aerosol cooking sprays. Spray propellants can leave a baked-on film that is difficult to remove and are excluded from the manufacturer’s warranty terms in the US guidance.

For the safest long-term use, preheat at moderate power, add food or oil before the pan becomes excessively hot, and use smooth wood, silicone or similarly non-abrasive tools. The supplied product information does not promise unlimited use of metal utensils, so a non-scratch approach is the prudent choice even if the coating is marketed as robust.
How large and heavy is the 17602?
Although the pan is sold as 26cm, CHOICE measured the flat base at 19cm, with a base thickness of 0.6cm and a total weight of 1.1kg. The distinction matters when you are cooking for two or three people, matching the pan to an induction zone, or deciding whether the handle and pan feel comfortable to lift one-handed.
The broad upper diameter gives room for ingredients, while the smaller flat base is the area in direct contact with a glass hob or induction zone. Foods placed near the sloped sides may receive heat differently from food over the centre, especially on a small burner. This is normal geometry rather than a defect, but it is worth allowing for when you compare the 17602 with pans whose quoted diameter refers to the cooking surface.
Can the Scanpan Pro IQ 17602 go in the oven?
Yes, but the published ceiling varies by market and source. Consumer NZ records the 17602 as oven safe to at least 250°C. CHOICE lists 260°C for its specification entry, and Scanpan’s US FAQ gives STRATANIUM cookware, including handles and lids, an upper limit of 500°F (about 260°C).
| Source or market | Reported oven limit | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|
| Consumer NZ, 17602 page | At least 250°C | Use this conservative limit when local documentation is unclear |
| CHOICE, 17602 specification | 260°C | Applies to the specification entry shown for its market |
| Scanpan US FAQ | 500°F, approximately 260°C | US guidance for STRATANIUM cookware, including lids and handles |
Before placing your pan in a hot oven, check the instructions supplied by the local seller or Scanpan subsidiary. If two documents conflict, staying at or below 250°C avoids relying on the higher regional figure. Do not move a hot pan directly onto a cold, wet surface, and use protection when removing it: the stainless-steel handle can become extremely hot even though it is oven suitable.

How should you use and clean the Pro IQ 17602?
The pan is dishwasher safe, but Scanpan recommends handwashing to extend its life. Gentle cleaning also reduces the chance that detergent, abrasive pads or repeated high-temperature cycles will leave residue or dull the finish.
First-use preparation
- Wash the pan before cooking with hot, soapy water.
- Use a nylon brush rather than a metal or abrasive scourer.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry the surface.
- Do not season it with a layer of oil as you would a bare cast-iron pan; the non-stick coating is the cooking surface.
After everyday cooking
- Let the pan cool enough to handle safely. Avoid a sudden cold-water shock to a very hot pan.
- Remove loose food with a soft utensil or paper towel.
- Wash with warm water, ordinary dish soap and a soft nylon tool.
- For stuck-on residue, soak briefly and use a soft nylon scourer. Do not attack the coating with steel wool, scouring powder or other harsh abrasives.
- Dry the pan before storing it. If pans are stacked, place a soft divider between them to prevent hard edges from rubbing the cooking surface.
Dishwasher use
Dishwasher cleaning is permitted, so it can be useful when convenience matters. Scanpan nevertheless recommends handwashing because repeated dishwasher exposure can shorten the useful life of cookware. If you use a dishwasher, avoid overcrowding, keep the pan from contacting sharp metal items and remove it when the cycle is complete so detergent residue does not dry on the surface.
Cooking sprays and high heat
Skip aerosol cooking sprays. Scanpan warns that their propellants can create a stubborn residue, and the US warranty guidance specifically excludes damage associated with propellant sprays. Use a small amount of ordinary cooking oil applied with a cloth or brush if you need additional release.
High heat is rarely necessary for a coated frying pan. Moderate heat is more forgiving, protects the coating and reduces the chance of baked-on oil. When searing, preheat only as far as your recipe requires, then lower the setting once the food is in the pan.

| Documentation | Warranty statement | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Scanpan Australia | 10 years against manufacturing defects | Australian market terms apply |
| Scanpan US FAQ | Limited lifetime against manufacturer’s defects | Excludes residue, propellant-spray damage and accidental damage |
Neither statement should automatically be applied to every country. Keep the receipt, confirm whether the seller is an authorised retailer, and read the local warranty before purchase. A coating worn through by overheating, abrasive cleaning or misuse may be treated differently from a manufacturing fault.
How much does it cost, and is it good value?
Published prices vary by country and date. Consumer NZ listed NZ$299 for the 17602 in 2025. CHOICE listed A$359 on a page crawled in 2026 and marked the model as discontinued in its availability field. These are local listing prices, not a universal current price or a currency-converted recommendation.
At either price point, value depends on three practical questions:
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Can you use its compatibility? Induction support is valuable if you have an induction hob or may move to one; it is less meaningful if you cook only on a small gas burner.
- Will you follow the care routine? Handwashing, moderate heat and non-abrasive tools improve the odds of a long service life. A household that relies on aggressive dishwasher cycles may get less value.
- Is local support clear? A 10-year or lifetime-sounding warranty has little practical value if the seller cannot verify coverage, stock is obsolete or the local exclusions differ.
The available evidence supports paying for its materials, induction construction and warranty potential, but not paying a premium on the assumption that it has a publicly proven best-in-class coating. Detailed independent scores are not visible without CHOICE membership, and Consumer NZ does not show its test results publicly.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What are the main strengths and limitations?
Strengths
- Works on induction and other common cooktops.
- Uses a squeeze-cast aluminium body intended for quick, even heat distribution.
- Includes a named STRATANIUM non-stick coating and stainless-steel handle.
- Uses a high proportion of recycled aluminium in the Pro IQ family description.
- Can be used in the oven within the applicable regional temperature limit.
- Dishwasher safe when convenience is more important than maximum service life.
Limitations and uncertainties
- The 26cm label does not mean a 26cm flat cooking base; CHOICE measured 19cm.
- Oven limits differ between 250°C and 260°C documentation, so local instructions matter.
- Warranty length and exclusions vary by market.
- CHOICE reports the model as discontinued in its availability field, which may affect stock and replacement availability in that market.
- Public pages do not reveal the detailed independent performance and durability scores.
- Spray oils, harsh abrasives and excessive heat can create residue or damage that warranty terms may exclude.
Who should buy the Scanpan Pro IQ 17602?
Choose it if you want one coated frying pan for induction and conventional cooktops, prefer a stainless handle for oven use, and are willing to handwash and cook at moderate temperatures. It is also a reasonable option when a local retailer offers clear warranty support and the price is close to other premium 26cm induction pans.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Look elsewhere if you need a very large flat induction contact area, insist on a current model with easily available replacement stock, or want independently published coating-life scores before spending premium money. A discontinued listing is not proof that the pan is poor, but it does make local availability and warranty verification more important.
What should you check before ordering?
- Confirm that the listing says 17602 and describes a 26cm pan, not the 20cm SKU 17600 or another Pro IQ size.
- Measure your induction zone and compare it with the documented 19cm flat base.
- Read the local oven limit; use 250°C as the conservative ceiling when documentation is ambiguous.
- Ask the seller whether the item is current stock, clearance stock or discontinued in your country.
- Save the invoice and warranty terms, including exclusions for sprays, residue and accidental damage.
- Decide whether you will handwash. If not, factor the likely trade-off between dishwasher convenience and longevity into the price.
Verdict: is the Scanpan Pro IQ 17602 worth it?
The Scanpan Pro IQ 17602 is worth considering as a premium, induction-compatible 26cm non-stick pan when its local price and warranty make sense. Its construction, cooktop compatibility and care instructions are clearly documented, and its oven rating is usable for most stovetop-to-oven recipes. The evidence does not justify declaring it the most durable or best-performing non-stick pan: the relevant CHOICE and Consumer NZ test results are not publicly shown. Buy it for the verified specifications and your ability to care for it, not for an unsupported performance promise.

Does 26cm mean the Pro IQ 17602 has a 26cm cooking surface?
No. The 26cm label is the nominal pan size, while CHOICE measured the flat base at 19cm. That smaller contact area is the measurement to compare with an induction zone or electric hob element.
Is the Pro IQ 17602 discontinued everywhere?
Not necessarily. CHOICE marks it as discontinued in its availability field, but availability is market-specific and Consumer NZ listed the product in 2025. Check current local stock and whether the seller will honour the applicable warranty.
Can I use aerosol oil spray on the STRATANIUM coating?
It is best avoided. Scanpan says spray residues can be difficult to remove, and its US warranty guidance excludes damage associated with propellant sprays; use a small amount of regular cooking oil instead.
What should I do if food leaves a stubborn film on the pan?
Allow the pan to cool, soak it briefly in warm soapy water, then use a soft nylon scourer. Avoid steel wool, powdered abrasives and aggressive scraping, which can damage the coating or create a warranty dispute.
